OK, we are, like, talking about two completely separate issues. :p

Camping in team deathmatches to maximize your k/d ratio, and camping in domination when your team needs flags, same game disc you pop in, but completely different games. Like Volcano said, depending on the mode, could be a completely different ball game.

I've said this million times(figure of speech, of course), but selfish is not always camping. It's when a noob goes run & gun and rack up something along lines of 5-20(a death/kill ratio of 4 ) and lose the game for his/her team. To me, that is also selfish.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see ANYTHING wrong with a score of 5-20. If you are noob, you are noob, you try your best to have fun, help the team, I don't care how many games we might lose because of you. I would never hold that noob accountable. And sometimes, an retarded run & gunners can serve as cannon fodders for his/her teammates as well. Bit brutal, but completely true.

P.S. I got my throat communicator for my Xbox today. It should be interesting. ;)

Ahhh, the camping argument pops up again. It's taken how long before people are complaining about it? Anyway, to drop my opinion on the matter, camping to me is only really camping if you're blocking a spawn point or stealing the bomb in sabotage then running away with it and camping in your own spawn (or something similarly annoying). Just staying in one place, even for an entire game, if they're racking up kills and not killing people as they spawn, then they're just holding a defensive position and clearly doing there team a big favour. I often used to be labelled camper on 4 for holding a building and defending it, but by holding that building I was in control of a large sector of the map and overlooking the objectives.

In the end, real soldiers will never run out because people might think they're 'camping', war is war, and as long as it's not spawn camping or plain stupid camping which annoys there own team, then it's fine in my book.

Modern Warfare 2 is a game dominated by "camping". It's more like very conservative playing. You have to play extremely conservatively in MW2 in order to do well. You die so quickly, it's impossible to just run around like crazy and do well. Yes, it can be annoying, but thats how it is, and thats how its played. Get over it or stop playing the game. Period.

Easy way to piss me off? Camp in a corner with Cold Blooded, Ninja Pro, and a Heartbeat sensor in Search and Destroy.

You would think, right? I'd have agreed with you just few days ago.

I'm not a great player, decent at best. But last couple of days, I've been running around like a chicken with the head cutoff. Ninja play is very addicting. By the time they notice you, they are down 2, 3 deaths already. If you guys want to try it, I use this set up:

P90/Stinger
Claymore/2 Stun
Marathon
Stopping Power-Pro
Ninja-Pro

It is awesome. 👍

I'm really leaning toward that this camping-heavy start of MW2 is due to the game being new. Players are less likely to roam around until they at least get a feel for the map. Most of us, until we learn the maps. Biggest score in Call of Duty has become the kill/death ratio, and I think that has something to do with it, too.

P.S. Zrow, I tried the AUG thing. I got grip & red dot for it tonight, it does rock. Although I do like the overall performance of the gun, there is one thing it lacks in comparison to my Ex-LMG, and that would be ammo capacity. No biggie though, it's worth it, and like you mentioned, it is a great alternative to assault rifles. 👍

As I said, there is a difference between camping the entire game, & camping til' you move to the next section.

If you want to camp so you can attempt to raise your K/D & brag about the size of your e-penis due so, go ahead; it shows no true skill.
For those of us, though, who actually venture out of Deathmatch, we see camping as only PC during a protection period. Camping anytime beyond that is just a waste of your team's time because you've got an objective that needs to be done.
I'm not so sure why people want to camp anywhere beyond a minute, though. There is a kill cam, so anyone you kill more than once from the same spot is just going to come beat your ass silly, esp. if you've done it to more than 1 person.

But luckily for me, the best way I've seen to keep getting steady kills & score leveling is to stick with your team. You're moving around, & you double your chances of killing off an enemy.

Rubbish, my favoured setup is sub machine gun+silencer+unlimited sprint+commando knife. I progressed far faster this way, mostly because the starting Assualt Rifles are so pathetic.
It was the same in COD4, the way to get points is to run about as fast as possible quake style.

Usually I can manage to run around the back of the enemy team and kill them all.

I've started using Assualt Rifles to get the attachments and level up some of my other perks but its far harder for me do well. I usually have to end up doing a lot of prone shots and lucky long distance shots. Camping doesn't help at all, just means you waste more of the short time limits.

Sometimes I end up with 1.0 k/d ratios or slightly less, but in my view its better than getting 6 kills in the whole match to 2 deaths. At least its the way I enjoy the game because its not a game you can really camp and snipe properly in, most of the time the sniper rifles are quite redundant, the maps are far too small or restrictive. And camping close range only works if the enemy are not using their kill cams properly or the afforementioned other modes where you have an object for them to be distracted with. Speaking of which, using a care package to tempt the enemy into ambushes is quite effective

Hmmm.... Seems to be a lot of people complaining about camping, I don't think it is a problem. I get killed more often in toe-to-toe firefights than I do by someone camping. If your getting picked off repeatedly by campers, then your gameplan is in error. I would even go as far to suggest that those doing the complaining, are the 'runners and gunners' from COD4 who are finding that their tried and tested skills no longer work.

You have to remember too, that MW2, is a far more complex game than COD4. There are simply too many angles to cover, and your always going to be exposed to some extent. It is up to you to minimise those chances, and maximise the life you have.

Personally, I play MW2 off center, that is, I don't run into a fire fight, but stand back and study the flow of the fight. I then put myself in a position to counter any enemy movements. At times I camp, at others, I lead the way. I also use all the 'ghost' skills and eqipment that is available to me. If you never see me, then my gameplan has worked!

You also have to remember too, that camping is a perfectly valid strategy. For instance, camping on defence, or in objective game modes is acceptable. How else can I defend a position if I cannot stay in the area to stop the opposition taking what I have just secured?

One other thing. It never fails to surprise me how many kills I get from placing C4 on a position in domination. The majority of the time I place them in plain view, and yet, when the enemy tries to take the flag, I get easy kills. I've never been caught out by C4 at point that needs to be captured, I always make sure that I reccy the area, before I commit to capturing the position. I find the problem is that the vast majority of gamers simply don't pay enough attention what is going on infront of them. If they did, then I doubt there would be so much complaints about camping etc.

You should be able to play the game the way you want...don't worry about other people.

That is exactly what I do. If 'they' can't counter my tactics, then its their problem not mine!

Back when I first started playing FPSs, there used to be a strict code of honour. It was not uncommon to have rules like: 'No base rape', 'no spawn camping', 'no camping unless on defence', and 'no 40's in the first 30 seconds' etc. All those gentlemans rules have been cast by the wayside since the FPS has come of age on this current crop of consoles.

^Most of those rules don't apply anymore because most FPS games have worked out ways to solve those issues.
Spawn camping and such don't normally happen in COD because of the constantly moving spawn points, a very good idea.

But in Battlefield 1942, you had to agree such a rule because certain maps provided too good an advantage to the attackers and there was no way of escaping.

Its nothing to do with people's standards changing if thats what you're implying.

using a care package to tempt the enemy into ambushes is quite effective
I always look up to see if any enemy care package lands near me. I then proceed to kill the enemies around it and capture it for myself if it's still there.

Oh yes, I certainly go for it if I can, but I'm usually wary for ambushes, especially because its rare for anyone to call a care package unless they felt they were protected with allies or cover.
I have on occasion thrown my care package into the middle of a firefight to see if anyone goes for it, its sometimes more effective than a grenade!

@Arduis:

I actually do think that some peoples standards have changed, or, rather, that some of those that play do not have any standards at all. A lot of it has to do with the ages of those that play. I'm not saying that it is a stone cold fact, but there is a lot of younger players on consoles than there were on the PC titles I used to play.

It might sound stupid, but I always cover a team mate even if they don't realise it. Unfortunately, I have found to my dismay, that the same is not true for those I cover. I have lost count how many times I have been killed by someone, a teammate could of easily tackeld for me. It seems to be that as long as it isn't them, then it doesn't matter, but of course it does.

A famous quote from my days playing America's Army was: "There is no 'I' in team". I only wish that everyone realised that!

Well, perhaps not a change in people's standards, more just a change in the types of people you meet online. In other words - more idiots and more people who aren't interested in playing seriously and just like to play for 5 or 10 minutes.
It will slowly revert back as the game loses popularity, but that will not happen for some time.

Its the same with GT5P, initially there are hundereds of thousands of idiots playing who are only there to punt and cause mischief or cannot be bothered with racing properly. But after a few months they lost interest and the number of clean, fun races increased.

Wow, huge camping discussion, I have nothing to say on the matter that hasnt been said but my opinion is that it IS a part of the game and it WILL remain a part of the game and that is because of the vast majority of different players. There are 11 year olds who may run and gun or camp, there are annoying people who camp to piss you off, there are people of all ages being strategic or just those who are a bit of everything.

The majority should be a bit of everything because that is what a true player is, as said before, good players know when to or when not to camp. The only campers I dont like are the ones that kill you in stupid ways that are purposely annoying. Tbh, if you get killed by the same camper more than twice, more than once even, you are playing the game wrong, use your brain and kill him .

Something very strange just happened.

I was host.

I then had my best ever match, of 13-2-11. Pity that'll never happen again, at least until IW sorts out the matchmaker...

I have a query about domination, if someone can help me. If you have the 'cold blooded' perk when you capture a point, are the warnings surpressed? The reason I ask is that on a few occasions, I have been covering a point, and been surprised to find that it was taken without me even realising. On several occasions now, I have noticed that the has been no aural indication. Further proof of this is that on a number of occasions the UAV has been up, and I could clearly see someone at the point, but ther ewas no audion prompt that the position was being captured.

I think it might be partly to do with the way the game deals with all the audio indicators, but I'm starting to wonder if some perks like 'cold blooded' or 'scrambler' actually surpress those messages.

@ Arduis:

I agree with what your saying regarding the quality of the games improving. I have noticed a real improvement in tactics and strategy since launch. For those of us that adopted quickly the first week was an orgy of kills, its not an orgy now though. I'm finiding that it is quite hard to maintain my k/d ratio now that everyone else has 'caught up'.

Tbh, if you get killed by the same camper more than twice, more than once even, you are playing the game wrong, use your brain and kill him .

Exactly! Fool me once shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me!

I too have this impression sometimes. I think I'll try with a friend in a private match and I'll come back with the results.

Actually I recall this exact same scenario occurring in CoD4 from time to time so I would assume CB, or any other perk, has nothing to do with it. My guess is that your "audio indicators" suggestion is the most likely explanation. When I'm capturing a flag it seems to happen most often when I attempt the real capture shortly after making a feint trying to draw out the enemy. It doesn't happen all the time of course but it will on occasion.

I just remembered, in CoD4, there was a trick to pull that off. I can't remember how it was done, but it was simple, and I think it involved the timing of another flag being captured? When you pull it off, audio warning would not sound off to the other team when you are capturing your flag.

Results from my experiment: Cold blooded, ninja and scrambler don't influence the vocal notice when losing/gaining a flag in domination.

Did they get rid of the silent running perk from MW1, whatever it was called? I remember there being one and it coming in handy quite a lot during hardcore mode.

It's Ninja Pro. Ninja= invisible to heartbeat sensor, Ninja Pro= Silent steps.

Marathon Pro/Cold Blooded Pro/Ninja Pro is a great combo for some infiltration action. I I use it with a silenced P90.

Lag is starting to get on my nerves a little now. I played for around 5 hours last night, and out of the many games I played, I think I only had three or four with three bars, the minimum that I think that is necessary for a good gaming experience. My win/losses are terrible, because I flatly refuse to play on two bars or less, I might as well have a sign that says 'whack me' stuck to my back! I hope IW are still working on the issue, because it is the only flaw in an otherwise flawless game.

My guess is that your "audio indicators" suggestion is the most likely explanation.

Yeah, I've done some further experimenting, and I've come to the conclusion, that the problem is actually at the software level, it might even be at the hardware level.

I don't know if you have noticed, but MW2 has a habit (you may call it a bad one), of lining up all 'audio indicators', and playing them one after the other. The order they are played is the order in which they were first called.

So on a busy map, like ground war (domination) sub-base, you will constantly hear a long list of audio indicators happening. Sometimes those indicators don't relate to what is actually happening in front of you. For instance, you may hear that someone is capturing a flag that you successfully defended about 15 seconds previously, or the UAV you called in 5 seconds ago is just being announced.

I have always waxed lyrical about the audio qualities of COD4, and MW2 is no exception - it is entirely possible to pinpoint an enemy on sound alone in MW2. What I am wondering though, is if the audio capabilities of MW2 are a strain for the PS3. I don't believe for a second that IW lack the prowess to code them properly, but Sony have been known to skimp on their choice of sound chips in the past. It would be interesting to see for instance, how many channels MW2 uses, compared to how many are available on the PS3, and for a comparison between the 360 and PC versions of the game.

EDIT: I thought I had seen it all on COD4 with the 'blind smoke kill', now I've surpassed that with the, wait for it... 'Blind 40 headshot'! I didn't think you could get headshots with the 40mm, but you can, and I've had two! Both on Terminal, and both whilst defending C! I wonder what the chances of that are?

One other thing, I completed the Omnicide challenge last night. You have to kill the entire team in less than 10 seconds to complete it, I killed them in less than 5! It was on Skidrow domination, and I got into that room that looks down the tunnel towards A. I lined up my 40, and... POW! I really shouldn't take all the credit though, because if it wasn't for the WHOLE of the other team deciding to capture A at the same time, it would never of happened!

It appears that the Ninja perk is broken. Someone on another forum was saying how he kept getting killed by a guy with a heartbeat sensor on even though he had ninja. He could see his red dot on the HBS during the kill cam. If it hadn't happened to me I wouldn't believe it. I guess he did some testing in a private match with some friends and he kept showing up on the HBS.

Some brillient games with mr_V and fair_play last night 👍

Always fun and thanks for the games

Think I played my best ever game on the estate last night too

http://www.mw2blog.com/modern-warfare-2-hits-10-million-units-sold/

10 million units have already been sold!

VGChartz reported last week that roughly 8.6 million units of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were sold in the first week (five days of sales) after selling around 6.4 million units on the first day. As many would have predicted from this ratio of day one to week one sales, week two saw an enormous dropoff of around 80%. This puts week two sales at around 1.7 million units – more than many games sell in their first week – and takes total sales to date over 10 million units in just twelve days of release.

With five weeks of the year left, VGChartz estimates that total sales for 2009 should hit around 14.5 million units by December 31st and should position Modern Warfare 2 as the number 1 seller on PS3 and number 2 on Xbox 360 (behind Halo 3) – with just 7 weeks of sales.

I am surprised it comes in second behind Halo 3, Halo 3 is what, 2 years old?
