pointless! It will be Real wheel changing simulator for you! What about driving?

Standards aren't as low detailed as you care to believe you know.
Indeed, the main problem of standard cars is not the polycount, it's more low resolution textures. Being ported from PS2 most of them have an average not so great resolution, luckily some have been improved they also updated shaders, but there are still lot of room eventually. Look, this is a render of an high res Viper in GTR2

It looks good uh? Good enough. If they update their Viper Team Oreca model with better textures you could expect a similar result outwardly.

Your post is pointless what about being able to create your own Racing Team? Like every Motorsport Team do in real life? :dunce:

It's progress Olegonic. One step at a time. :)

Like others, the question on my lips is whether we just get the mini selection of wheels we have with premiums, or something like GT4, which was massive in comparison. That would mean standard rims for standard cars, but if they received the premium rims, they will be booted with more polygons than the rest of their whole bodies!

IMO, standard cars physics are noticeably simpler/duller than premium anyway, so I use them much less, and not really gonna gain a lot from this update. It is still a very good step though.

What we really need is premium wheel choice expanded!!

How can you compare wheel change and creation of your own team?

Because when real teams tune and paint their car for racing they do change/paint wheels. So being able to do that even with standard cars is a little step in the right direction. They have a long way to go tough, but better than nothing.

This won't affect me much, but it's great to see PD listening to the fans. 👍
There are increasingly less things to moan about in GT5.

"standard wheels don't look as crappy as they originally looked. I noticed the wheels changing drastically, they are more detailed than the standard cars themselves, have a look at standard cars with intricate rim designs and you will see what I mean. Heck PD even have the brake covers modeled and colored, slotted discs are slotted, cross drilled as well. Standards aren't as low detailed as you care to believe you know."

I completely agree. Take a look at the Buick GNX and you can see the rotors through the black crosslace wheels. I have those exact wheels in gold on my real car and they are perfect even down to the valve stem.

War, war never changes.

I asked Kaz on twitter, but I don't think he will reply. It's better to assume that it will be GT5 system. Anything above that will be added bonus for me. Also I have strong feeling that at some point we will get wheels dlc pack.

PS: Range Rover Stormer, black on black rims. That will be a mad monster :)

Yeah, the weak, really really weak wheel selection that GT5 has is a sign for that. In other hand, and being optimistic, they improved the standard wheels a lot, like said in this thread already, most standard wheels are even more detailed than the cars in comparision, so if we get the bonus you talked about (and I really share the same opinion, the premium system into standards) we may even see standard - premium wheel exchange.

That would be a beast. Just want steelies everywhere! lol

Volkwagen beetle hell yeah

Of all the standard cars I think the Beetles rims actually match the car, they're round, its round, lol

But yeah, My 1988 IROC-Z Camaro first, I hate those red line rims on it, they look ugly, I like the rims on my real car, I think that an IROC should have IROC's on it, lol, but it doesn't.

That and the ZZII, Red and that bronze-gold color don't go well together, lol

since wheen are standard rims, low poly? Standard rims on most cars are what makes the car look so great on the ps3(also the excellent wheel spin formation), that and the lighting, especially wheels on the classics and the japanese nostalgia, they are super detailed, and like savagevil said. the brakes on all standards are 3d modeled not a just a texture. i was amazed when i zoomed in the brakes on my spoon civic and it was modeled.

at first i thought standards would stick out like a sore thumb, but i was amazed at how much better they look then GT4, and look alot better then cars ive seen in other current games of this generation(especially the classics)

I do remember reading somewhere a long time ago that PD modeled the cars in GT4 better than they needed to, then dumbed them down for the game. So it's no surprise that they look better in GT5. ;)

Guys, does anyone have GT4-pics with changed wheels on awesome cars? Would be quite nice. :)

I'd like to warm up.

In fairness, they used the high quality models in GT4's photomode. Some of the cars were (and possibly still are) "glitched" in GT5 in that they don't use this highest level of detail, but I suspect its the amount of polish, the higher resolution and the incredible lighting that makes the biggest difference in GT5.

I always thought the wheels were the best thing about the Standards / GT4's cars, too.

I missed the ability to specify the sizes though, which the game clearly had the ability to do, because you could put the 13" steelies off the mini onto the Pikes Peak concept, and vice versa, and they would scale accordingly! On some cars (like the GT40, Zonda, etc.), they even had different offsets; but putting these wheels onto another car used the same offset all round (usually the front wheels) and it just lost the appeal in a lot of cases.

The same is still true of GT5's aftermarket wheels. I expect the tyre model couldn't account for changes like this, so they don't allow it.

I just filled up my favorites list with the first 100 standard cars that are getting new rims. Ranging from the Mini Marcos GT and the 73 BMW Turbo up through the Jag XJ220 and Diablo GT1, that IF we can change race car rims. If we can't paint them we might not be able to change rims. Which would be bad news for my 'Cuda.

Is it wrong that I so badly want to change the wheels on my lime green Citroen Xantia? I'll be happy with some low-profile black 5 spokes.

All of my imprezza's will be getting new wheels, hopefully there will be new wheels added to.

I forgot about my 2004 Pontiac GTO! My Jaguar XJ220(which I have setup as closely as possible to the XJ220S TWR) could use a new set of shoes. Can't forget my Caterham and BMW 2002.
