i think the hatchs are more of a chick car. not to say i dont like them i just find is easier to picture some college girl riding around in one.

i like the look of the rear of the sedan more to. as to the newer coupes i just dont like them. the lines look wrong.

What model of Coupe are you refering to? I dont like the current model coupe's but i like the model above!

I'd take Pug 206 CC over almost any of these.. unless, if we speak of old glass-hatch civic from 80's, with that wonderful 160 bhp 1.6l VTEC in it..

The little white hatch up there that say's Type-R on the side has a 1.6 Dohc Vtec with 185bhp and would embarrass anyone with a 206cc attempting to keep up with it - whether on the track or on the street or anywhere! Infact so would that SiR it has a 1.6 dohc Vtec also and has either the 160bhp or 170bhp engine (not sure)

yes, and Civics are lighter, I know.. but 206 CC has good looks. and I haven't seen cabrio civic yet.. (god forbid  )

It's everyone to their own opinion on looks - i'd say any of these two Civics are greater looking than a Pug 206cc ( dont get me wrong 206cc is a good looking convertible and dont mean to offend but in the UK i dont think i've seen a guy driving one just ladies ) but also plus points on the Civic is the reliability and build quality of a Honda! Not to mention how good the engine is!

And if Honda ever made a Civic Cabrio i would be rather ashamed!

So in comparison to Peugeots 206cc - Honda has an S2000!!! Now pick which one you would have!!!

206, because S2000 doesn't belong to Honda's lineup in Finland.. and, even used S2000 costs around 40-60k€ in here, because it's so rare. with that prize, I could get Evo 8, WRX STi or 350Z.. 💡

Wouldn't you rather have the 206GTI 180bhp?

206 GTi 180 is known as 206 RC in here. and, IMo, 206 hatch is just a lame, fat version of that lovely 205, which was one of the fastest hot hatches of it's time.

but, if I would have to go for a civic, I'd buy two civics.. first, the one with glass hatch, and then, that 4-door sedan with awd.. and 6-speed tranny from honda civic wagon. all these models are from 80's.. and then i would have light, 160 bhp awd car with 6 speed 'box.

Nice 👍 :D

I just like the looks of the 206 GTi !

My friend has a 1.9gti 205 the sky blue colour!

I almost bought 205 1.9 GTi as well.. it was black beauty. it would had needed some tinkering, but finally, i didn't buy it.. I decided to buy a curse of blue oval.. good side in it is, that it has 2 doors and it's rwd..

Nice article, nice to see the american history! but sadly american Civics are quite a bit different to most of those here in the UK.

Theres a couple of things i've never been able to find out.

What is the Acura thing about? Why not call them Honda's?

Why does America not get Type-r Civic Hatchbacks?

Can someone please explain?

well, let's think about it: Americans want their cars to be safe ( able to go head on with big rigs etc) and with plenty of room, so they can haul tons of stuff around. they don't need to worry about fuel price, so the economy isn't needed.. thus, they drive horrible, safe, boxy, non-economical SUV's! tiny civic would be crushed under one and the driver of SUV wouldn't even notice it. anything which is covered by the blind spot caused by wide, long nose ( +-50ft) is undetected and thus, in danger to be over run. trafic in us when driving a civic is like when rabbit is trying to get on the other side of road.. pick up wrong moment and you'll be crushed.

what do you mean, i don't like SUV's? :dopey:

Ha ha, Ok so i see your point but i dont suppose thats the reason, i mean they do still sell Civic's in USA! Why not the Type-r?

I gues it must have something to do with emissions.. after all, it's 200 bhp NA, and it's emissions might be quite high for it's class and displacement..

I'm not sure why we didn't get the Type-R before, but nowadays it's probably because they'd be snatched up before they got a chance to collect any dust in the showrooms, and they'd be EVERYWHERE. That, and kids enjoy tacking bodykits, stickers, wings, and rims onto any kind of Civic they can get their hands on -- no need to give them one that's actually fast.

We do get the Si, however, and we used to get the SiR.

As for the existence of Acura, us americans are obsessed with image, and Honda has a small, weak, econocar image. So cars like the NSX, Accord Euro-R, and other, more luxurious Hondas are marketed under the "upscale" brandname of Acura. Toyota does the same thing with Lexus, and Nissan has Infiniti.

Thank you! I've always been confused and wondered why! never knew that was the reason but now... it actually makes sense.

One other thing tho! Toyota might have done the same thing with lexus but you cant say buy an IS300 with a toyota badge tho! whereas you can buy say all of the honda/acura's with either, e.g. in uk you can get any Acura Integra Type-r but with a Honda badge & vice versa (with slight changes - Honda brand are slightly more porwerfull here than an Acura would be (I think) and subtle other changes like Racing Recaro bucket seats and front indicators are clear rather than orange lenses.

so many questions. well, about the type r civic, it has a lot to do with emissions. we have far to many laws here.

now, to say we all drive huge suvs and dont have to worry about gas, thats nuts. sure we have very cheap gas compaired to the uk but here gas has doubled from a year ago and a year ago it had doubled from what it was before. a few years ago gas was about $1.45 a gallon. it then went to $1.60... then to $2.00 then to $3.00 then to $3.50... in the biger citys its more still. up and up it goes with really no end in site. no one likes to spend about $40-$50 to fill their tank here. we simply dont have the ability to refine anymore. even if opec wasnt a bunch of assholes and sent us more crude we couldnt handle it. since we have so many tree huggers we have a hard time finding ways to make more energy. when you add the hurrican damage to the mix the price of gas isnt going down anytime soon.

we did get the integra type r though. it was a few down on hp though. something like 197hp i think. a bit heavier to.

now to the guy talking about an awd civic with a 6 speed and 160bhp. i'll keep this simple and just say i highly doubt what your saying would work. honda engines come in series. most parts only work with one series. even some parts in the same series wont work together as they work differently on different engines. what civic wagon has an awd 6 speed? if its new i can pretty much tell you it wont work on anything else.

well, some Honda's are ridiculously expensive here.. for example, Honda NSX ( just plain NSX, not Type S Zero etc) costs 192000 €!!!

With that price, I'd rather buy Audi RS6 Avant and leave the 42 K€ for fuel and modding! Or even for a second car.. 💡

Technically, since the CRV is based on the Civic chassis, and the B20 has some interchangeability with the B16-18 series, an AWD B-engined Civic is possible. But not stock.

an awd b series has been done before. not with a 6 speed though.

well, we have awd civics here, those old 4-door sedans from mid 80's or so. and they have 1.6l engine stock, so 16B could be swapped there. and, since civic wagon from 80's has 6-speed box, why couldn't it be fitted there too, since it uses 1.6l engine as well? true, it might need some tinkering, but atleast it would be unique! and, did you check the link i did post earlier? there's pics of those cars I've mentioned. not the sedan though, maybe it was just special model for europe..

We have awd Civics here? Do we?

Yes. If you keep your eyes on used car market, you see them popping out every now and then. I don't know how many there is, but hey, we have turbocharged AWD peugeots too.. yes.. 405 T16:s! :dopey:

I'm not quite sure what you're saying, but in america there isn't any overlap between Honda and Acura. An Acura is an Acura, and a Honda is a Honda. There aren't any Honda Integra's or Acura Civics, for example. Also, we get the Honda Accord, but the Accord Euro-R is called the Acura TL.

well the integra is a honda as is the nsx. the civic was always a honda. acura is just something so rich fat cats can have a nice car and not feel like fools for buying a honda.

now i must explain something to you about hondas. honda uses different series of engines in each car that will not work in other cars. the awd civic sedan (EF model) was the EF5. it used a 1.6l SOHC ZC engine making 120hp. NOT the 160bhp DOHC B16A. these two DIFFERENT series DO NOT work together so it is not possible to make a hybrid of them.

for your reference here is a list of honda engine codes, what cars they came in the hp and ft/lbs its obd level if its vtec or not its size in cc its cam design its bore and stroke and its compression ratio.

thankies.. I stand corrected. but, I still say, that for DIY-man everything is possible.

if you have the money anything is possible. just not everything is worth it. honda made the civic to be a light weight nimble front engine front wheel drive car.

Mmhmm.. yes, money is good thing to have.. 💡 oh well.. I can always take huge loans and pay it for the rest of my life..
