Cockpit Shaky Camera

I have raced in real life, this is genuine shaking.

As a driver you get used to it, especially because you are not looking at a screen (that is your major problem guys)

I have done a small amount of Kart racing (125HP, six speed) and I was shocked at how bad the vibration was and am truly impressed that the guys who do this can see where they are going. It's also physically difficult to hold the steering wheel because your hands get shaken off by the vibrations.

Higher end racing cars have way better suspension and solutions for that in the steering department.

I am no engineer but that is roughly how racing in F1 is still possible (pre-00's is a different story though)

You don't get shake in real life though. Your eyes do a great job of absorbing shocks and shakes. Look down the road when driving on a bumpy surface in real life. Does it shake up and down like in GT5? No of course not.

The cockpit view in GT5 seems to simulate a rigid, fixed camera rather than how a human would view the road ahead.

I hate the effect but would happily accept an option to turn it off rather than remove it as I accept some may like it.

That's why I dig Shifts cockpit view so much. As you go faster everything blurs out, and only the road remains in focus. Pretty cool if you ask me...

But your eyes/brain compensates it. And that is not possible here. So actually it is pretty unrealistic.

Exactly right.

I actually get nauseous from the cockpit view and can't use it at all, I run the bumper cam full time. I also can't play FPS games either for the same reason. Its basically because your brain is seeing the movement through your eyes but your body is not feeling it, so your brain gets confused. I even get nauseous at first person camera films like Blair Witch.

The cockpit bounce put me off ever using that view again. They went way overboard with the vibration.

It's far worse than in Shift, which I didn't have a problem with.

It is slightly unnoticeable for me, I do recognise and sometimes makes makes me lift my foot off the accelerator abit because you are scared of losing control, for me it makes the sense of speed remarkable!

Doing rally at night with no map on new point-to-point courses is pretty scary in any view, but using cockpit view lessens visibility and is just a little bit scarier.

Some of your arguments are pretty persuasive, but just thinking about it, if you were looking out of a car cockpit a fair distance down the road you simply wouldn't see the entire view ahead shaken up and down, things really close by like the car dash/wheel etc would shake in your view a bit, but anything further away than that should be fairly smooth to your eyes.... It just feels like a blanket shaking effect done to the whole view and not taking into account the perspective of things, the distance of things in your vision... I still feel like it should be altered slightly, I do love the amount of movement of the drivers head, it's essential to make you feel involved, just less of the earthquake effect done to EVERYTHING in your vision....

I still play in nothing but cockpit view by the way, no other view will do!

Lol, I seriously doubt that you eyes can compensate for the amount of shake you get when driving a 800+ hp car with a stiff suspension setup, driven at high speeds. Your eyes tend to adjust to the vibrating and it's now where near as intrusive as Shifts. It shakes relatively miniscule compared to you actually flying down la Sarthe at 220+ in a McLaren F1. Your eyes compensate, but the rest is you just adjusting your vision to the shaking and you rarely notice it. Seriously when you switch view why would you use the roof cam, when the bumper cam is a much wider view? Oh well. The camera shake is fine and hasn't bothered me at all, in fact when I first started playing I was wondering if there was camera shake because GT5P that crap was damn near non existent, which is total crap in my opinion. I don't actually remember having that in FM3 either, don't think there is to be honest.

Love it.

In real life your eyes may adjust but you will still feel the shake. In the game the visual indicator is all you have.

I wish they added that jolt effect you get in Shift when you crash. All driving games should add that.

The cockpit shudder is, in my opinion, just about right. It gives a great sensation of speed, especially with a Le Mans style car on Circuit de la Sarthe or the 'ring.

I am shocked at the amount of people who are saying the excessive camera shake is realistic!!!.

Maybe in a kart, with no suspension, or a very, very stiff LMP car, on a bumpy surface, but on a smooth track like HSR in a road car, its in no way realistic, its over done and intrusive.

It adds to the sense of speed. I like it. A lot.

And it is an accurate portrayal of what you go through even in a street car on track. Your head is all over the place and it really does take a concerted effort to stay in focus and stay focussed.

Really? What are you basing this opinion on?

Who else is completely annoyed by the insane shakiness of the cockpit camera, that used to be my favorite view but now I use roofcam, wish they would fix that.

Not enough driver head shake (should be adjustable) and the inability to adjust seat height became a problem in some cars.

I like it too, and i would love to see a dlc for standard cars even with a standard cockpit, or even a cockpit like in GTPSP!! I can't believe that a game in 2010 doesn't have a cockpit for every car.

The camera is too rigidly affixed to the axis of the car. I think it should be a bit more elastic, because your body absorbs quite a bit of shake so it doesn't effect your head/eyes too much in real life. Ideally, you should see the interior of the car moving around, but your view should stay more or less still.

When you drive a real car, you are not sitting in a static office chair that does not move. You are in a seat that is part of the car. As the car goes up and down and pulls side to side, so does your body. And you're eyes and ears do the job of maintain equilibrium.
The only way the shaking in GT5 would be correct is if you were in a chair on hydraulics that could move in all angles, and have it tied directly into the program so the chair follows the movement on the screen.
As it is, it is just annoying B.S.
I switched to bumper view permanently.

Most of the time I'm very happy with it, it adds to the sense of speed and immerses me just a little bit more. There have been times where it has made seeing a little difficult though, I recall one of those moments during the NASCAR special events, the car would violently shake through the banking.

Yeah exactly, sometimes when I do high speed runs on SSR7 it becomes annoying as you're sitting at high speed for long periods of time and when a curve comes it's a little hard to see clearly with all the shaking. But in general I like it.

I think the shakiness is great. It adds tremendously to the immersion and the sense of speed. However, it would make sense to have the option to turn it off for those who don't like it.
