Common sense with standard and premium cars.

I don't know how anyone else feels but I generally stick to one racing view in a game so I'm consistant. Having to change views for different cars is going to be a problem for me, especially when using one car long periods of time and then having to revert back to a bumper cam.

I always use the cockpit view if available and it would be a shame not use it in GT5 considering the details level is going to be amazing. Having to switch after that is going to be hard.

I, for one, agree with OP.

Yesterday, you were all saying "zomg GT5 is gonna be the best sim evrar... dents and scratches, dust/dirt accumulation, lighting effects, vastly improved graphics, day and night cycle!!! OMG!!!"

And then, today, it's "utter twaddle... GT4 in HD... not gonna buy it" simply because only 200 cars out of the 950+ have cockpits?

Jeez... PD really are doing all this hard work for a bunch of ungrateful monkeys.

👍

Little question.. I just downloaded the standard cars clip on my computer,
and it looked actually better in motion than on these stills.

But uhm... is that a backfire from the pescarolo or just sparks?

With the improved physics and the new graphic engine, it's going to be a much more different and improved driving experience than what it was in GT4 and I know I'm gaining more than just a higher resolution gameplay. Even if you remove the driving experience out of the equation, there's still the huge improvement in the car animation- improved body roll, suspension behaviour and of course, damage. And when it comes to the driving physics- I'd love to see how well I could handle a 69 Camaro through the Nordschleife. GT4 didn't quite do it for me.

And yes, I'm a car nut and even the standard cars seem to get all excited.

Those look pretty good.

I mean, if that Stingray is there, and here's another pic of it, I don't think anyone's gonna e complaining (about the exterior, anyway)

When the FM guys were saying how the last demo wasn't the final game and it could change... no... no it couldn't. And I don't see it being any different here...
Actually FM went through a few changes between E3 and release (and it released earlier than GT5).

One noticable change was the reflections - in the E3 demo, the SL65 had reflections like th hood was actually 3 flat mirrors, they didn't follow the body, and when it tried to reflect a ripple strip it looked like this:
\_/, three straight edges.

This changed for the final release, but between the demo released on XBL a month before release, and shipping date, bugger-all changed.

pretty much. Though hopefully they'll add in some more goodies between now and Nov 2nd.

I am sure Kaz did not plan from the start to have "Standard" and "Premium" cars! It looks like he bit off more than he could chew!(As usual) You all do realize that PD will be checking all of these threads and now GT5 will be delayed AGAIN because of unhappy GT5 fans.

I really like KY's desire to have the best and although that his biggest strength it is also his biggest weakness becuase what he wants is not also within the realms of possibillity.

I think KY should have just given us just the 200 Premiums and then through DLC, add more intime of which he could have asked the fans what out of the 800 non Premium cars we wanted to be added in what order at a later date through DLC.

I suspect now after all the bitching we may have something like this.

Despite the dissapointment, you mark my words, we will all be blown away when we get our hands on GT5.

roll on November 2nd.....

Forza 2 did not have cockpit view!!! So developer for Forza 3 already had car models just add cockpit and some new car!!! GT5 is first game on PS3 wait for GT6 and All car’s will be premium!!!

i gotta say….. cockpit cam is great for a few races….. but i quickly switch back to bonnet/bumper cam for precision racing…… so really doesnt effect me one bit
if anything, it’ll make earning the premium cars all the more special.

As a game’s developer myself, i appreciate the amount of work it takes to make a game. 200 premium cars with full interiors is a HUGE task. Having all 1000+ cars with fully modelled interiors probably wouldnt even be possible.. certainly not to the high standards we expect from PD. Also, 200 premium cars is still a LOT more cars than most racing games have in total, so to have 1000+…. what more do you want? Animated ants at the side of the track? Fluid dynamics for the fuel as it passes through the engine?

If the 'No interior view' only means 'no seats, door trims etc' but all 1000+ cars will have cockpit cam i'd truely be gobsmacked.... thats a HUGE task to pull that off. I cant see it happening, but i'd applaud them if they manage it. Either way, this game will be epic.

i like what we'll get in GT5, except cockpit view for standard cars. The game is filled with content. I hope they will transform standard into premium. After 60m$, they could outsource some company the help them. But despite cockpit, i think gt5 is excellent base for future GTs.

this game is huge of contents..

Excellent post as I agree with everything you say.

I've just been watching the videos of Rome, Madrid again and OMG to the level of detail in those tracks. I also read it took 2yrs to model these tracks which is the same time it took Turn 10 to develop FM3.

I think we need to cut PD some slack here. Lets remember they had to develop the game engine from scratch for the PS3 and for this reason GT6 will be miles better. Im no expert in developing games but I do know developing a game engine is the hardest and most time consuming part. So when they develop GT6 a majority of the hard work will already be done.

Im concentrating on the positives rather than ther negatives and the positives certainly outweight the negatives. I don't normally bother with cockpit view anyway when racing online or hotlapping.

I do believe there's a phrase for that:

GET HIRING!

I mean, they're gonna spend what, $80M USD on GT5? Now, considering Prologue's sales, how much revenue that generated, as well as the inevitably massive sales GT5 is always gonna get, and I'm really surprised they didn't just hire another hundred animators, even for just another 6 months, because that would have done wonders for the game content.

Where have we had proof of a bonnet view? Has GT ever used a bonnet view?

GT never had a bonnet view so far, but there is proof for GT5. There's 1 video from the Nürburgring demo, and I think it's shown in several from the Le Mans demo.

Ok, I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty shocked and dissapointed about the no cockpit view in almost 800 cars. Cockpit view is my #1 view, it makes the immersion of being inside the actual car and driving it a great experience. Kinda wish this would of been cleared up some time ago, considering all we have seen so far of GT5 the last years has been what we thought we were getting until now.

One question I have:

Couldn't PD just make 1 high quality generic cockpit with the wheel and gauges and everything, and use that same generic cockpit for all of the cars that have no interior?

Anyway, the sun will rise and life will go on, but I still feel like I got punched in the gut.

Well it won't be so bad with a bonnet view at least then, but still a huge let-down.

The standard cars are realy bad they look even worse than GT:HD! The didn't have blacked out windows.

It's not just the fact that there's no cockpit view for these cars...
They look like crap compared to the other models! Seriously, what was PD thinking?

I already know right now I'll be racing 200 cars. Maybe I'll try one of the standard models. Maybe.

But for me, GT5 has 200 cars. That's it.

Stop using that C3 Corvette, I can see inside that one plus it has sidepipes, the gold C3 in the video doesn't have sidepipes, so this could be a premium model C3.

I think I would actually prefer if all 1000 cars were modeled as standards,
now a premium car in the field of lesser models will stick out like a sore thumb.
I also would've liked the game to have "only" 400 cars, as long as all would've been premium.

I can't just believe how inefficient PD is, T10 modeled 400 cars in a little over 2 years, and the cars looks very good.
PD modeled 200 cars in 5 years and even though they look better than forza's, the difference isn't significant enough to justify the amount of time wasted.

tl;dr T10 did 200cars/year with interiors and everything, PD should have made the same.

I don't think they are showing standard cars at E3. Right now they are showing only premium cars and some 6 tracks. These just released a video that's all. I am sure it will look great otherwise it will be like playing 2 different games. But I also feel standard models will have more number of cars in a race than premium

Paulie why would you make two c3's??? thats just silly.

Ofcourse I'm serious. Look at it.

Makes you want to cover your eyes.

Okay, that screen doesn't look as good as some of the other GT5 shots we've seen. But even so, it's an idiotic exaggeration to say "it makes you want to cover your eyes".

I cannot believe the ungratefulness on this forum.

He's being sarcastic.

I don't really understand why PD doesn't just add the black frame (as used in GTPSP and referenced in the Twitter interview) cockpit for the standard cars. This would be good, just for consistency.

Also, those standard models still look great. I'm guessing they tessellated the GT4 models, because they're much less 'jagged' if you know what I mean. I guess we'll have to wait for GT6 to have 1,000 fully modelled cars. :)

Look at it.

Main thing I see there is improved AI 👍

Lack of a cockpit view for all cars does indeed suck, but the blacked out windows I couldn't care less about. If it helps the framerate stay stable, they should do that for all AI cars for all I care.

Because one could be a ZL1, or a convertible. Haven't people been calling the green one a convertible? Look it's simple, one has the standard side-pipes of one model, the other doesn't. There's 2 different C3s and clearly one is premium.

My take on the matter is presicely opposite. I don't care much for interior view, roof cam ftw. But the black windows is so last gen.

The standard cars look fine when there's no premium model side-by-side to compare with.
But when there is one, the stardard looks retarted in comparison and the black windows amplify the effect
