^^ lol you trying to tell that GT5 = GT5 (200 cars) + GT4HD :odd:

You can race standard vs premium cars in race right ??

There is only 1 montage video of standard cars. Are they other videos too ? Even standard cars look great IMO :) But I really want them to have cockpit view

The word "Premium". It looks so sacred, doesn't it? Even the way it sounds when it's said. It's truly a magnificent word.

.....And then there's "Standard".

Where did you get all this? From what I read they are the old assets with a spit polish, a few more polys added and maybe some higher res textures.

What are you talking about? That makes no sense... GT rebuild these from scratch and built them all crappy GT4 quality? Are you saying they dumped their old data and stuck all the cars on dynos and scales again to get new data? Like a 03 civic would have different horse power if we measured it today as it did when they measured it last time? WTF?

And what is "their specs were put into the new physics engine to make their digital copies? WTF does that even mean? A physics engine doesn't containt every cars specs... those are stored with the asset and loaded, those specs are fed as variables INTO the physics engine while racing and the resulting calculations determine what we see and how the car handles.

It sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about and trying to cover it up by talking like you do...

No you bloody muppet. Have you actually read anything to do with this game over the past 3 years? Each car in Gran Turismo 5 has been redesigned into different parts so that in future development of the games, they do not have to recreate these cars.

Their statistics IE, Length, bredth, width, horsepower, weight etc, have all been put into the physics calculator that Poly Phony developed to recreate the copy's of the real life performance in the game.

Yo! Where do you get your information from? I donno what you're talking about but you don't 'port' gt4 games from an old system on a dvd to a new system on blu-ray. Sorry. I watched the latest video of the 'standard' cars. It doesn't show interior for any premium cars on it though. The video was on the first page, it showed views of the standard cars and I saw steering wheels from the outside and a driver with a helmet. I donno what that confirms but I don't think were SURE of the standard cars not having interiors.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Seriously... I don't even know where to begin... did someone slip me some acid?

No you were just dropped on your head as a child. But go on have a go. Of course, you can't really prove through any detail that Polyphony has ported and upscaled cars through GT given that every piece of recorded information from polyphony containing info relating to car modeling states that each car has been recreated into various parts. But go ahead be my guest.

That's pretty much exactly what it looks like... right down to the same crappy sound from GT4 assets.

I do not know about sounds. But standard cars are not just ports from GT4.

To incorporate in GT5 engine, they will add more details to it. It is definitely not to the quality of premium but it is not as bad as people think 💡 The gfx will still look better than other racing games

How can it be annoying? I really think they do look like crap. That's my honest opinion.

I can't wait for GT5 to be released. It will be the most awesome racing simulator ever, but I just simply won't use those standard cars. I've had GT4 since it came out and seeing the same cars again but only in higher resolution is not exciting to me. Not one bit.

This. 👍

👍 I agree.

But the sounds I'm not 100% on. I guess all that we can really do is wait until launch.

First off, I will buy and enjoy the game for what it is. I have enjoyed all the other GT games without the cockpit cam; however since its inception, the bar has been raised for me as I only race with cockpit cam now.

How can you have a REAL RACING EXPERIENCE by using a cam that is behind the car? To me, that is like racing a remote controlled car.
While the bumper, hood, and roof cams may be a little better, I do not sit on the bumper, hood, or roof of my car when I drive it. I sit in the seat, behind the wheel and dashboard with all of its gauges. And last time I checked, that is where most racecar drivers sit as well. Maybe I'm the wierd one here...

I think alot of the frustration comes from people wanting that realistic driving experience. And I'm sure we would all be ok with 200 cars with cockpit views if we could pick those 200 cars. It is what it is - frustration. I don't think anyone is being brats, unless you're calling someone else one for being frustrated.

👍 Kazanori made it quite clear a few years ago that each car was being individually remodeled for GT5.

Well he was clearly lying then because this is what 80% of your game is going to look like...

Thats your standard car in GT5. Its GT4 in HD, Pretty appalling.

Robin.

Is this thread serious? WHERE DOES FANBOYISM END?! I've used chased view in all previous installments because I used a controller! The realism of GT5's physics meant an upgrade to a wheel was not only an upgrade to enjoyment, but necessary for speed. As such, I've grown accustomed to interior view via Prologue, and to now have to go back to some 🤬 🤬 arcade view means this game could look photo realistic, and depict physics perfectly, IT WILL NEVER FEEL REAL, it will always look 🤬. I've spent 3-5yrs holding out for a game that should have only taken 1 month to make, it's barely an upgrade to GT4! 🤬 RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

It is funny how many people complain about the lack of cockpit. When i saw videos of GT5:prologue, GT5 Demos or older GT games, the most people where using bumper view.

Well, for me cockpit view is very important. I dislike bumper view or anything else, because i love to drive in cockpit view and a good racing wheel. For me its a big downside, but i just dont understand the most of you people.

You're right, but at least there's still 5 months left for them to touch up on the cars.

As gutted as Iam about this I hope that the game knows when a standard car has been chosen and takes advantage of the resource lighter car.

eg- A race with premium cars may only have 12 cars on the grid due to how many polys they pull while a standard car field for the same race is all the way up to 16.

Also some other small points

-If the wheels are modelled separately again this time* then they all should be high poly and not-so-round wheels and tyres was the gt4 cars weakest point.

-The news article says no high level lights for the standard cars, does that mean they cant be used for night races/rallys?

-Do standard cars have the damage applied effects and if so on what level.

-Anyone who has played GT4 upscaled via one way or another knows that those cars look pretty sweet in higher res and with some AA applied, with the new lighting engine and textures things may not be that bad.

*presuming so for the customization section.

Robin- is that pic from GT5?

Woah bro! It's just a view!

I completely understand the premium-standard thing..
It's just practically undoable ..
They would need another big leap of time,
and I'm sorry, but I really want the game.

I am not going on a quote digging fest but basically there is a lot of FUD here.

1: They scrapped all previous game code. This is almost certainly pertaining to the game engine only. Assets were not just thrown away (for those who don't know but like to talk like they do, assets are elements of the game like cars and tracks). Not all assets were necessarily brought over to GT5 however some were obivously drawn on.

2: They have modeled all the NEW cars for GT5 panel by panel and painstakingly made every detail as accurate as possible. This is not necessarily true about cars from previous games.

3: Again for those who like to talk like they have some idea but don't, no one is saying they just ported GT4 to PS3. They have taken the assets from GT4 (ie car models) and polished them up (added more polys, maybe higher res textures etc) and are using them with the GT5 engine.

That is all the effort I am putting into that because honestly I feel like I am explaining calculous to a goldfish sometimes.

OK just saw the standard trailer and while the cars look 'OK' they really should have sunk just a few more polys into them even if it was via outsourcing, 'these cars are 5k polys, bring them up in quality to 50k'. The new lighting engine and AA does a lot to bring them up but the round edges on some need some work.

It's 5 months till launch... knock out 2 for final testing and certification and 1 for going gold, pressing and shipping.

I really don't think we will see much in the way of major changes before launch and considering how tight lipped PD and KY are on details I really can't imagine they went and spilled these beans if they weren't sure this was how it was going to be.

Maybe not major changes, but whatever they could do to make them look even the slightest bit better would be appreciated.

With the improved physics and the new graphic engine, it's going to be a much more different and improved driving experience than what it was in GT4 and I know I'm gaining more than just a higher resolution gameplay. Even if you remove the driving experience out of the equation, there's still the huge improvement in the car animation- improved body roll, suspension behaviour and of course, damage. And when it comes to the driving physics- I'd love to see how well I could handle a 69 Camaro through the Nordschleife. GT4 didn't quite do it for me.

And yes, I'm a car nut and even the standard cars seem to get all excited.

And yet you don't have a thing to base these facts on

If you had a clue about graphic design, you'd realize that you can't just take a model add some polygons and relay. They need to be redesigned to pick up any flaws that your previous models had because they would show out like dogs balls.

They have just released one montage video only. It also means many more cars on track and we do not know how good it will look right now!

Compared to premium it looks bad but from where did you get this ? I do not think they are showing standard cars at E3 ?

I am sure we are all hoping they pull out a miracle but I have been watching the games business for quite a while and I can honestly say I don't recall ever seeing someone pull a miracle out of a hat this late in the game.

When the FM guys were saying how the last demo wasn't the final game and it could change... no... no it couldn't. And I don't see it being any different here...

The only way I see things getting noteably better is if PD pulls back again like they did with damage and delay the game due to poor user feedback of what has been seen.

I don't think that's gonna happen either, but this IS PD and GT so who knows...

MAYBE if they hadn't spent time on those 🤬 features like highly detailed tracks, dynamic time or advanced photo modes and instead focused on the ONLY IMPORTANT aspect, the 🤬 CARS!
