Common sense with standard and premium cars.

As far as I'm concerned GT5 only has 200 cars and the 1000 figure is just for press. Chase cam or bumper cam don't cut it in this day and age. The cockpits do look better than Forza 3, and I know this will be a better game overall, but again, Sony can shove that 1000 figure. I know I'll never use 800 of the cars, not if there's a premium car available for every campaign race.

Since the standard cars look like that, they should have upped the amount of them on track. Like 25 for the long 24 hour races and big courses, man those models look like GT4 HD video. GTHD had much better looking car models, they should have built the standard cars like those instead, sure we would have had less, but they wouldn't looks so damn horrible.

Sorry guys, they CLEARLY used GT4 models and touched them up. I've played ridiculous amounts of hours on GT4 and I recognized the models immediately. They're GT4 models with a few extra polygons and higher resolution textures, and of course they're being presented on nicer tracks and in a true HD graphics engine. The improvements are NOT in the actual models, just in the engine displaying them. All this stuff people are saying about less jaggies and stuff...yeah, thats not improvement in the actual model. It's just a better graphics engine running HD resolution and antialiasing.

With that said, I still think they should have separated the standard cars into a different, additional game mode. That would have been awesome.

Those look pretty good.

I mean, if that Stingray is there, and here's another pic of it, I don't think anyone's gonna e complaining (about the exterior, anyway)

Actually FM went through a few changes between E3 and release (and it released earlier than GT5).

One noticable change was the reflections - in the E3 demo, the SL65 had reflections like th hood was actually 3 flat mirrors, they didn't follow the body, and when it tried to reflect a ripple strip it looked like this:
\_/, three straight edges.

This changed for the final release, but between the demo released on XBL a month before release, and shipping date, bugger-all changed.

pretty much. Though hopefully they'll add in some more goodies between now and Nov 2nd.

While the modeling and rendering of cars in FM3 improved considerably over FM2, animation and movement of the car remained the the same. That's one thing you won't see in GT5. Every time there's an improvement in the physics, you can clearly detect in the replay. Although the animation wasn't bad in GT4, you can see that it reflects the state of the game's driving physics. With Prologue, you see a better defined sense of weight to the cars and a more pronounced body roll. With the TT demo and the subsequent demo of GT5, you can see even more improvement.

I really wonder how the car companies will feel when some of their cars are given the "second class" shuffle and the other cars are given the "first class" treatment. How will this reflect on their specific cars and company as a whole?

Also how does the criteria work for PD to classify which cars go to which division?, just something to think about.

^^^ Is that stingray a standard car? If so then :O. I think that looks really good.

I'm confused. I've seen a Premium Stingray (One with the lights in the E3 trailer) and one in that "Standard" video. Are they the exact same car?

Why would they include both versions? O.o

They're 2 different models.

I don't why that "Standard car" looks good there. Yet it looks and sounds like it was ported from GT4 in the standard video.

Yeah, like the camaro ss and the z28, the z28 is premium while the ss is standard, I swear though... them cars are so similar couldn't they just make slight changes to the z28 to make it into a premium ss?!

There's also a 69 Camaro standard edition and a premium one. The premium is a Z28, maybe the standard one is an SS or RS?

EDIT - beaten to it. And yes, I find it very strange that such similar cars couldn't have just been added in as premium.

I do believe there's a phrase for that:

GET HIRING!

I mean, they're gonna spend what, $80M USD on GT5? Now, considering Prologue's sales, how much revenue that generated, as well as the inevitably massive sales GT5 is always gonna get, and I'm really surprised they didn't just hire another hundred animators, even for just another 6 months, because that would have done wonders for the game content.

You clearly dont work in the games industry :)

I was thinking. That old Subaru footage of the doors coming off and the hood lifting up.

So if that is premium car damage, then does that mean that ALL premium cars are able to lose doors and stuff?

Because that would be crazy-awesome O.o

Yes, they can all lose doors and have crazy damage.

Can't believe, what I must read. Only 200 cars with cockpit-view? It´s a shame for PD. What have they done in the past 6 years?

I can't remember in GT4 to see any overpolished oldschool-cars from GT3. And now, with the possibilities of a new console generation - just 200 cars worth for PS3, the rest up to the promised 1000 cars is just eyewishing. They better had promised the 200 cars to be in the "new" version and the rest as a nice gift.

But I won't believe it, untilI see it, when game first starts in my console in november.

I am still hoping the best.

Look at everything the game offers, and you'll see what they've been working on for the past 5 years.

Some people are missing the point. They included those 800 GT4-GTPSP cars because it was an easy way to up the car count.

Yup, its like megapixels on cameras... they keep ramping them up and up and up because that's what people see and what sells but they don't realize there is a point at which you the glass is the limiting factor and you only have so much light to go between all those sensors...

But again, just dents. None at the level of the original Subaru damage (Hood lifted, doors open)

I'm sure it says somewhere on their website that premiums have extensive damage. So you don't need to worry. :)

Let´s pause for a second and go back to E3 2006. Anybody remembers that?

KY was on stage and everybody was a bit disappointed because of the GT HD presentation. If you remember, they´ve showed GT4 assets at Le Mans, running on 1080p.

Then they presented the idea of GTHD classic and Premium, DLC for the old cars and stuff. Everybody hated and they decided to scrap that.

What they did was this: they continued to work on the "real GT5 experience", but didn´t erased the HD 1080p upsclaed models. These 800+ cars we will get are probably just like the ones we saw at E3 2006. Back then Le Mans was a standard track, filled with standard cars. We should expect the same for GT5.

And four years later to me it´s very clear that GTHD Classic + GTHD Premium = GT5. They never really went away from their initial idea. I hope the old tracks from GT4 and GT PSP show up as standards, i would love that instead of the poor 20/70 thing.

People are just shocked because they never told us what they were doing, they just kept showing uber perfect models and stunning tracks, and we were led to believe that Premium cars and Standard cars only had differences in the damage department.

So if you want to know how the standard models will look and feel like, just watch the E3 2006 presentation, it´s that plus a few touches like minor damage and day/night.

I'm not worried. I was asking out of curiosity more than anything.

I was just wondering why we haven't seen that level of damage since the TGS last year.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but since there's so many threads about standard/premium cars I figured this was as good a place as any. I know the lack of a cockpit view in the standard cars has been "confirmed," but hear me out.

I was playing GT PSP, and chose the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. As it rotated around, I noticed something odd: It has a fully modeled interior. Gauges, gearshift, 3d wheel, the works. I remember reading an interview (can't find the link now, unfortunately) where Yamauchi said that they used the GT5 car models, and downscaled them for the PSP version. I checked a few other cars, mostly convertibles, and they also had details in the interiors. So the way I see it, either the 300SL, and these other cars I checked out (AC Cobra, MR2 Spyder, Merc SL65 AMG, Toyota Sera, Audi R8 LMP) are all premium, or there is some sort of cockpit view for these presumably standard cars. I realize these are all convertibles, and the other cars all do have blacked-out windows, and I'm probably clutching at straws, but it is something interesting to think about. Opinions?

How are you able to tell which are premium or standard ?

There's still a chance, as there are around 50 premium cars yet to be revealed. 👍

well you may be right there was the Shuichi Shingo Edition AE86. A.K.A. the Initial D car. That would be great if it had the Tofu sign on the side.

It's easy when you know the clear signs to look for.

Premium Model:

Interior/Driver is a dead giveaway at first glance. Then look at things like headlight detail and the undercarriage. I have no idea why they couldn't do the 69 Camaro SS in premium when the Z28 was already done...

Was thinking the Same thing, they have the Rx7, RX8, Skyline R32,33 and 34 in Premium. Who is ever gonna drive the other 40 variants of those cars if they are standard!

Well the standard cars/premium cars is a HUGE disappointment for me.

I want to drive everyday cars like alot of the 800 originals with the stunning interiors etc.
But now im stuck with the Premium cars which some are debatable "not my ideal cars".

Couldnt care less about the SLR Mercs or Muscle cars.
Also annoyed the standard cars are upscaled. Hoepfully they will have full 3D wheels and better textures.

BUT i enjoyed ALL previous GT games and i have no doubt i will adore GT5 and i will use ALL varieties of cars in the game.
Cockpit view on the Premiums and the usual bumper view on the rest.

When i driving with the cam view i wont see my car but just the beautiful tracks etc.
Just a shame as Forza 3s cars graphics are better than GT4s with interiors etc

Also downloadable cars and maybe standard to premium upgrades will come in the future.

Still the greatest game ever. No 800 normal cars are going to ruin that for me.
