Alright there's some disparity in opinions on the design that I'd like to discuss. @Joey D, @Eunos_Cosmo, and some others including myself say it's a bit much.

I'd like to draw attention to a couple things.

There are seven, count em, creases on the hood between the headlights.

What are those little bumps on the leading lower edge of the nose? What purpose do they serve in the aesthetics of the car?

We've got three black highlighted scoops and ducts along the side of the car along with the not so subtle vents on the hood and rear diffuser. The grille's hexagon pattern draws attention, as does the aero in front of the front wheels.

I feel like every little piece of the car from the headlights to the spoiler is calling attention to itself.

Personally I think it could be a great design if they would just take it down a notch. I'm interested to hear opinions.

Don't forget we're being shown a Z06 with the more aggressive Z07 options, which I'm sure not every Z06 will have.

But I think they're targeting the GT-R/911 GT3 crowd with this Z06, both of which have wings, scoops, exposed carbon-fiber, splitters, diffusers... it's meant to look like a racecar without numberplates. And I think it works. It's not meant to be subtle, that's for sure, and I think they wanted to go over the top with it. If you want subtle, get a Bentley, they seem to suggest.

That approach seems to work for Mercedes anyway with the Black Series line, especially the SLS.

Personally I love every single thing about it. It's definitely an attention grabbing design, but it's consistent. Every other foot of the car has something to draw your attention to it, and no single piece of it is left unappreciated, at least not by me anyway. The C6 ZR-1 was already my favorite Corvette simply because of how unapologetic it was with it's in your face styling, and this thing makes the ZR-1 look subtle and refined by comparison.

If the C7 Z06 really performs as well as they say it does I may have a new favorite car, especially if the supercharger has a nice sound to it. And I'm honestly really loving the yellow.

It's pretty amazing how the agressive add-ons of the Z06 changes the persona of the car. I hate the base C7, yet I really like this. The only part that seems really tacky is the black plastic fornt fender flares, but everything else looks pretty bad ass. The car is still ugly, but it looks bad-ass now.

The Z06 in the unnamed gray (Shark Gray) looks f'in fantastic.
I gotta see it in person but I really loved Cyber grey. The new gray does look great though, especially in the Z06 idle video I posted. Would look much better with black wheels as well.

The new Z06 and C7.R are pretty awesome, but will the race car still sound like this?

I was standing about 200' away from the outer wall of that track just 2 weeks before that was recorded. And this car is so great that actually feels sorta special, to me.

Really wish I would have been able to stay down there and see that in person for myself.

I'm actually digging the silver wheels and tan interior.

Chevy May Make Corvette Z06X Track Car.

With the 2015 Corvette Z06 now out in the open, Chevy engineers are already busy on a more extreme Vette. Corvette product manager Harlan Charles told us at this year’s Detroit auto show that his team wants to put the Corvette Z06X, a concept shown at SEMA in 2010, to production.

“The idea was a non-street-legal, factory-built track car, and that is something that we are considering would be a great thing to apply to the new Corvette Z06,” Charles said. “I mean that’s something we could see in the future. We’ve got a lot of ideas, but nothing to show today, unfortunately.”

The Z06X concept was a stripped-out C6 Z06 with the Z07 and Carbon-Fiber packages, plus racing wheels, adjustable suspension, roll cage, and lots of other race-spec goodies. With the latest Z07 aero package and the C7 Z06’s 625 horsepower, a new Z06X could quickly become a rival for the C7.R racer. Nothing is official, but if Chevy added back the three-point seat belts and other federally approved items, a potential Z06X could easily be sold alongside the track-enhanced Camaro Z/28—and for a lot more than that car’s $75,000 sticker.

It would have been much more interesting if they would have done a street version of the 5.5L racing engine while still adding the aerodynamic goodies (and losing a few pounds). You don't need a bazillion horsepower to be fast, that's for damn sure.

I do wonder, however, if they will introduce a sportier model above the Z51 for track guys who don't want to deal with the supercharged nonsense...

But isn't adding bazillion horsepower and no weight reduction or other goodies the 'murican way of making car faster?

I wouldn't say that. The most famous American road race cars were all decently light. Corvettes, Cobras, GT40's. Hell, the Corvette designed it's entire suspension around being light.

Apart from the MKIV, the GT40 was mostly an English car.

Until they were handed over to Shelby, given a more powerful engine among other things, and started winning things...

Light chassis, powerful engine is the point. That was the thinking applied to the car when it was handed over to the American team.

I'm just all kinds of disappointed
I'm all kinds of excited. I'm in love with the Z06 and C7.R. I just hope the Z06 weight is reduced and kept light. I've already come to terms with it being S/C. I'm even ok with the 8speed auto option. I know its a departure from the Z06 roots but the new times, competition and new technology are calling for some change. Now if the Z06 gets rid of the stick shift manual gearbox down the road that's when I'll have a HUGE problem.

C7.R wasn't an issue, there is a reason I changed my avatar to this from what it was (C6.R), but my disappointment stems toward the production side of it all. Chevy knows they could have easily given an SBC with more than what the 427 makes, and kept it N/A. They've made plenty of revision SBC and Big blocks from the 60s and 70s with modern engineering and reworked geometry to make more powerful lighter version and instead they took the easy route with the car that was already known and loved as their track going Corvette, while the ZR1 acted as the hyper car with the big selling BHP numbers. The hierarchy worked, this doesn't and I agree with many others on why it doesn't. It's great if you are excited but this isn't some radical shift, this is an easy update to what they did with the ZR1. A radical shift would be electric driven turbos or supercharger, or even getting a fully developed HCCI system are new and innovative if not revolutionary, this isn't anymore so than the LS9 perhaps slightly.

The saving grace last time around was the numbers they got from it and the economy on fuel, also the application of magnetic suspension was a big plus too. I wouldn't be surprised if a semi-automatic transmission made it way into a production side Corvette considering the last Gen Racing Vette had paddle shifting and so will the new one.

So much speculation on what the car will be like when no one's even driven it yet...

I wasn't aware roots superchargers changed from the last model ZR1 (2013) to the upcoming Z06, please inform me what has changed. As me and others have said the characteristics of a roots supercharger are still there and unless GM has figured something radical about such systems it wont perform any better engine wise than the ZR1. I'm a massive Vette fan and Chevy guy but I still know what reason and rational sound and look like.

Well we'll agree to disagree, if I were to own one (I hope I get the chance to) tracking would not be my concern. I just don't see the point of judging any car before it's been tested.
