Do y’all change tires in Race C? Looking at my reply, everyone changes tires except me. I still finish ahead to 3rd from 7th. Video later.
Self detrimental humour
It's lovely here. Stunning little island to live on. This is a 15/20 minute walk from my front door.

I am also interested in learning more fuel saving but what exactly you did here? Just half way up the rev counter, changing gears up is what you are trying to show here?Short shifting or i missed something
IOF_Racing27 posted this video last week, Race C, Red Bull 2019 at Sardenga A.
He starts from from last place. 2nd place Calster25, apparently plays on a DS4. Crazy fast race.
Saw this old Chevy ad. I think from back then.
"If there's anything that hugs better than a Camaro hugs the road, you can't drive it." Nothing suggestive there.![]()
Yeah that flash of 3 girls (a blonde, brunette and redhead) at 20 seconds reminds of an old comedy skit on subliminal advertising. That's a pretty good one. Chevy is basically saying that this car will get you chicks. Ironically, today that car would attract a hell of a lot more dudes.![]()
I hear ya. I think that at this point, my least favorite type of race is a fuel economy race. I just don't really want to do them anymore. Not linking that no stopping on C is basically the only valid strategy.
Shame. I really like the track.
Hopefully the fia race won't be like this.
"Short Shifting" can mean a lot from "half way up the rev counter" to just short of red-line, etc.
What I am showing is that, on downshifts, I am trying to avoid engine braking too much, because that burns fuel unnecessarily.
In the corners, I am showing how quickly I get out of a low gear and use the engine's torque (ergo low revs) to pull away from the corners.
In corners that would normally be a second gear corner, the Ferrari can use third. In corners that normally would be taken in 3rd, I can do 4th, etc.
I remember when I first started the short shifting strategy over fuel maps and I didn't quite get it. It took a while to figure out how it was really done. I am finding the Ferrari to be one of the easiest cars to drive this way.
It really surprises me how slow the Camaro is off the starting line in this game. It only spins it's tires when you're turning.
The guy in this video gets a launch that's a little closer to what I want. 👍
It's probably a good thing that they don't launch like the one in the video. Could you imagine how much SR would be lost in the first 2 seconds of a grid start race.My mother in law has a '69 Z28 with original engine and it really is a slouch from dead stop.
Thing is that at that time it was a rocket compared to the rest, it's just that we're too used to modern racers' accelerations.
A lot of camaros today are modded and have a lot of modern parts, quite commonly a different engine as well, thus the accelerations..
Now his wings turn to ashes to ashes his graaave .......His eyes, were ablaze. See the madman in his gaze... and so it goes, goes round again on the island. Went in with the Jag. Didin't improve on my Beetle time, but my optimum was better, so I didn't feel like I was cheating by using a different car's qualifying time. Duerto the nature of the beast, matching can be so random. Last couple of nights I started P14, tonight I started P6. Was happy with that .. till the race started and people were acting like idiots.
I got hit at T1, pushed off at T3, fell back 3 positions, then was devoured by a hungry pack and bashed by everyone as they came through. I limped out, battered and bruised in P16 with a 4s penalty accompanying one of those orange SRs I saw. Slowly I made my way around the circuit and caught and passed a few. I spun out a couple of times, which didn't help, but every lap I did where I kept it on the track I was gaining, even with my short shifting and tall gears. 3rd was the lowest gear I used for the whole race.
People started to pit but I still had 1/2 a tank left when I started lap 8. Inch by inch I was gaining and in the last few laps I was in P9 and about 2s behind the pack ahead.. I had problems with P17. The stupid moron somehow thought that even though he was ghosted because he was a back marker, he could somehow block me. I did make another error that had me in the sand and drop another position. In the end I finished P10, with apparently 0.6 laps of fuel left. It started flashing red as I started the final lap. So... the Jag is another no stop contender. I didn't notice the tyre wear either.
SR blue, despite the mid pack shenanigans, DR up 80. Another day above DR 1.
Why does engine braking burn fuel? Every engine with injection stops the fuel when engine braking.
Not liking that no stopping on C is basically the only valid strategy.

Flat-out racing is what I'm looking for when I turn on my console.
2 Japanese races next week, to make up for none this week.
A - N200 at Autopolis 3 laps
B - Gr.3 at Maggiore GP 4 laps
C - Gr.X at Fuji 14 laps
Wow Gr.3 Maggiore forward direction, an old favourite, I remember the disappointment from the amount of times that showed up as the reverse layout2 Japanese races next week, to make up for none this week.

I'm not as good as you are, so I prefer races that pose fewer challenges. I don't really care about confronting adversity, to improve my skills. I just want to do the kind of racing that I have the most fun with. What's the difference?
In order to win a fuel saving race, you have to hit your apexes, manage your tires, and try to not use up your allocation of fuel.
In order to win a fuel stop race, you have to hit your apexes, manage your tires, and try to not use up your allocation of fuel.
The goals are the same. If you think a race is won because of 1 fast lap, you are sadly mistaken. A race is won by being the fastest to complete the distance. Even when you have to stop once, or even twice, you are still looking to minimize your time in the pits as well as on track.
In my races, the fastest laps are always somewhere between 1:20 and 1:21.5. The fuel saving guys are lapping almost as fast. Who would you say is actually the "faster" driver then? If it were a "flat out" strategy race, as you say, the person who can get around the track smoother is still going to be faster.
No offense, but people who think like this is the reason I shy away from META cars. I MUCH prefer wins in a car that others think slow you down, because then, when I do win, it's that much more delicious!!!
On a related note, I was chatting with other Ferrari users and they recommended a -1 brake balance instead of my -2. I tried it. Over a single lap, the difference was minor. Over 15 laps, I was 10 seconds faster.

I drive AT. No stopping is impossible for me.
Note that I didn't say they should change it. I just said I didn't like it.
When there's stopping involved there's not so much fuel management, I can play around fuel mapping, but otherwise I'm just not thinking about it.
Again, didn't say they should change it or make every race a 1stop.
