Yes, on my Golf, the "eco" dashboard app specifically gives me more economy when I coast in gear rather than if I put the car in neutral or engage the clutch to coast.

On my motorcycle (BMW 1600B ftw!!!) it's totally different. It snaps and pops when I lift and downshift. I'm hoping to change the exhaust at some point so it's not as muffled and, as a benefit, it will spit flames :D

@Pigems LOL, I had to read your "nails with hammers" comment a few times. I kept picturing you hammering your figernails!! I guess there's a deeper reason why I avoid the META cars :D

Haha I’ve definitely done that a few times too!! I shot myself in the finger with a nail gun one time as well(3.5” spike), I don’t advise trying that one either! ;)

My old RX7(‘87 Tubro II) would shoot dual 4’ flames out of the exhaust when it backfired. I didn’t even have mufflers in it, just two little cherry bombs. It looked super cool at night time. :D

I did some races this morning. Sardegna B is not a bad combo, very messy in the back still on a Friday.... The penalties are way too lenient now imo, however I'm still A/S from the week before driving against B/S and D/S in the back so they have immunity for barge passing and bumping me off. The only one that got a penalty was an A/S driver that blocked me when he came out of the pit, causing me to snag a bit of off road.

Brand's hatch was the same. I'm definitely behind, jumping in on Friday, fast fields. The only reason people ended up behind me is because they couldn't keep it on the road, so not surprising they can't pass clean either lol.

I started with a no stop on Sardegna, not efficient but do-able. I got timed out, didn't finish, but got bumped off the track 3 times. The tires were still fine, yet with a best lap of 1:25 while extreme short shifting, pitting is recommended. Maybe tonight.

What car are you using?

In my mind, turn 1, turn 4, and turn 8 are the critical ones (the slowest corners). If you miss those apexes, you lose a lot because they are SO banked at the apex. You just rail around them.

Ima tellin' you, that Ferrari is da bomb.

Wow. I wanted to do a Brands race before work so I warmed up and got my qual time down...I was in a zone...
I go in country and am faced with an assault of Megane trophies. Starting third with two in front and two behind...
Go 458 Italia!
Lap one I am on their bumper, I was almost able to complete a move just past turn 1 straight, and the trophy ahead didn’t defend the inside...Hmmm...Yeah I didn’t hesitate...Boom! Right up the inside and through way to deep locked the brakes and overshot...
Then I got sideswiped off on exit and spun...Horrible driving...Minus much dr I am sure....
The door looked open...
That’s enough for me...Too much caffeine...Gave a lot of yesterdays progress back...Easy come easy go.
My apologies to the guys ahead in that one. I got big eyes and lunged...BADLY
Maybe I should have gone Mustang, it’s really good there espescially with tcs 2...

As an aside, I am learning if you feel plagued.by people behind, you must learn to assertively defend the inside and force them around the hard way...It slows you down, but if the trouble you are facing in game is coming from behind either don’t qual too fast for your pace or defend. After racing South America this week I am learning a lot from them.
You cannot always just hold racing line. In dailies people battle for position. Like Brands, let’s say you don’t get a perfect run up the hill after coming through that Druids section and whatnot. What I have been doing is immediately hugging inside in that case on the straight, I make no bones about it. People with a run will follow trying to get inside but when they see they can’t get the nose in and they will have to run side by side they often don’t push, the caveat is you have to know how to maintain speed from an alternative line.
Anymore I find defending assertively won’t get you pens, and if they make it around before the corner good job by them, if not it’s side by side, or often they run off because they are not used to having to slow enough from that outside position.
I’ve learned a lot from the Brazilians this week, either defend assertively or don’t, but you have to expect if someone’s on you they are going to try for inside. You really can’t expect the game to conform to an expectation of zero contact that’s just not how it is. Light touching is allowed, so practice, play accordingly.

Not really that simple. If you are turbocharged and run fat (as race cars often do) the remaining fuel in the cylinder will ignite in your exhaust when you cut the fun pedal. Especially if you run an atmospheric cutoff valve.
Also, with a cat, no flames.
Cars eating fuel under engine braking is something from when we ran carburetors.
Edit: there is no reason to not cut off fuel .on engine braking, saving fuel should very much be a concern in racing.

I was perplexed at how you and the person in first managed to pull ahead so much without stopping this morning. Usually I'm much closer to the frontrunners this week, you guys really put me in my place.

Oh dear. Just lost it comprehensively in 2 Race B.

First, started 12th, got bumped in 4 consecutive corners on the last lap while running 5th., retaliated to the last one and got a 4 sec pen., finished 11th.

Similar story in race 2, finished 9th.

DR only down 600! SR down from 42 to 30 :dunce::guilty::guilty::O

Going to cook dinner now.

Had another bunch of good races in the camaro this morning, including a great race with uncletwenty3. I shared in game the replay from that one. Wasn't able to best my qualifying time, tbh i felt i was running a little slow and sloppy this morning

Happy friday everyone :gtpflag::cheers:

Found my groove with Race C. R8, my quali time isn't exceptional (1.21.5) but in race with FM4 the whole time and no pitstop, I can easily gain 10 positions if the race goes ok. With that quali time (my optimum is better but I can never get a clean quali lap at optimum speed, there's always some unneeded understeer that puts a wheel on the grass on corner exit somewhere) it starts me anywhere from 15-19th, and my finishes range from 6-12th, the 12th being a race where I got a 2s penalty on the first lap because while braking and also trying to avoid a spinning Beetle that hadn't ghosted in the braking zone leading into a corner, an Atenza rammed me from behind and sent me into the distance. Totally ridiculous. I was also matched 3 times today with a Spanish guy that is incapable of passing (I'm aware I can be slower on FM4 than them, and always leave a lot of room for faster drivers to pass since I have no hope of holding them off anyway) without also pushing me and whoever else is around off, yet still gets a blue S at the end cos the penalties keep moving him away from traffic to clean green SR-plus air.
But yes I'm enjoying Race C a lot compared to other track/car combos in recent weeks, I'm quite liking the B layout of Sardegna more now too. Of course, it helps that I've worked my ass off to get my SR back up to S before I attempted it and now a B/S driver again (still struggling to raise DR above the low 14000 range, perhaps using the DS4 controller is really starting to limit how much more pace I can achieve)

I got a 2nd place earlier in the week on Race B, but I don't trust the other drivers on that track because I had a lot of incidents from people behind every attempt there, I keep encountering people unable to maintain a line on corners or who lose all rationality when alongside.
Same for Race A, people don't know how to drive the Camaro at all or when to brake. Laps are so much faster if you brake earlyyyy af with brake bias to the rear (TC2, BB3), and accelerate through the corners being very careful with the steering. Everyone else I've been matched with just wants to brake late and slide into oblivion, taking everyone else with them, and since I'm inexplicably being matched to DR C & D drivers a lot, I get punished. So I was very good at finishing well at Race A, if I wasn't being killed at the same time by everyone around who slide and shove, and I also have a great quali lap for it too for a change!
On a sidenote, has anyone else noticed since the last update that there seems to be fairly random aggressive understeer exiting corners sometimes? I can do the exact same thing every time (approach, speed, braking point, turning point, etc) and still half the time as I come past the apex the car will stop turning without any change in steering input and sharply drag itself straight towards the outside of the corner in an unnatural way. This was very rarely a problem before, but now I find myself having to brake and such in order to actually remain on track, when I wasn't even going at optimum speed in the corner anyway. I never thought I'd have such understeer in an MR or FR car, it's bizarre.

I was using the Lexus, my go to car to learn a new track and get back into the rhythm after not playing for a while. And yep, those banked turns are very nice to get right. I'll try some different cars later, however right now I'm on a coffee break from trying to make a new runner (supporting beam) for the stairs of our deck outside. It has to fit the old slightly warped one with sagging stairs on top, building stuff new is so much easier lol. Nothing is exactly straight anymore. Of course I don't have any real tools either, using paper templates to get the angles, mixing cm with inches and an old handsaw with the wood beam resting on a garden bench. It's a miracle if it's all going to fit  It was fun buying an 8 ft beam and fitting it in my suv. It's the only day good for it, 20c overcast atm, tomorrow up to 35 again.

I wouldn't say it's limiting your pace. There are some very fast players who use the DS4. Unfortunately, we're not all Calster.

I was in the same boat as you, though. Couldn't really get above 15k. Switched to the wheel, and suffered an immediate slump (to be expected). Now that I'm more used to it, my DR is slowly rising (currently a little over 26k). While I am definitely faster using the wheel due to having better range of movement, and better throttle/brake control, the main thing for me is the consistency. I am MUCH more consistent using the wheel.

I used to find that a bad/messy lap on the DS4 would be anywhere between 0.5, and 1.5 seconds slower than a clean, fast one. With the wheel, that's closer to 2 or 3 tenths.

I was using the Lexus,

I tried that early in the week. Not a good choice.

RCZ, NSX, Ferrari, and Porsche of course, although I am not a Porsche type. The AMG is also pretty good.

I am so looking forward to 35 :D

It's the nature of the course, and it helps when the person you are running with is on the same strategy. Instead of wasting time racing each other, I find a lot of the no stoppers will avoid "racing", even giving up positions to let other lead. That way, they draft the car in front and save fuel.

But, this track doesn't punish you that much for short shifting. Also, I have found tire wear to be the biggest time killer. A little tire wear punishes you much more than short shifting.

Thanks! Yeah sounds like I would've expected tbh, much better accuracy is the thing. I'm not slow by any means, but the variation between a good and bad lap can be quite large. I'm not in a position/location at the moment where I can in invest in a wheel though (just moved back home from another country where I studied, dunno yet where I'll end up next), so the DS4 will have to do for now haha.

Same, I love the heat. Get this little project out of the way and cycle / swimming tomorrow!

Ferrari and Porsche sound good, RCZ and AMG are always easy. I'm not really fond of NSX. I'm still jet lagged so probably not much racing this week. Jet lag + heat humidity = zzzzz. I always feel like I'm going into the Tardis when boarding, seats are getting smaller all the time. How so many people fit in those tin cans is magic.

Air Canada!

I love this scene from days of thunder. It's SO applicable, especially in this week's Race C.

Guys are throwing themselves at corners trying to get ahead, sliding all over the place, and then a few laps in, their tires are wasted to the point that their power advantage is negated.

Don't get me wrong, I am still trying to be better at this myself, but conserve those tires!!!

I just woke up and the clock said 7:30. I'm thinking that's weird. I don't usually sleep that late. Anyways, I made coffee and took a shower. Went outside with my coffee, and wondered why it was so damn warm this early in the morning. It reminded me of Bangkok. I also thought it was weird that I went to sleep without eating anything. Oh well. I turned on the computer, because I always check to see what you guys are up to in the morning, and saw that it was p.m. :O

Obviously I had too many beers.

I guess I can do some night racing.... smh
Is there an option for a designated driver in GT Sport?

Is there an option for a designated driver in GT Sport?

I once had an awesome online race, completely wasted, on an old Midgets Only series on GT6. That experience changed my relationship with racing...

... and that weekend damn nearly killed me.

I just ran 3 Daily B... with a new car :) . I painted a Genesis (Michelisz Norbi ftw :) ! ), and destroyed my Viper lap time at Sardegna almost 2(!) seconds.

genesis03.jpg

Race 1. Full throttle, no FM or short shifting.
Started at 10th position, climbed to 5th or 6th and then disconnected... :(
Race 2. Full throttle, no FM or short shifting.
Started at 13th position. I knocked out a 911 and got a 3 second penalty at half time. I slowed down to give back his position but lost 3 more positions waiting for him... Finished 10th - and lapped by the DR A leader who won the race without pitting. Again: a DR A in a full DR C and D.
genesis01.jpg

Race 3. FM & short shifting to shorten the pit stop. After the pit I was in the same position.
Started at 10th, finished at 10th(?). The top 7 of the grid looked like this: A+, A, A, B, B, A, B. Everybody else was DR D. I'm sorry if I'm whining (is this the right word for it?), but it's kinda disapointing to race against players whose laptimes are 5-6 seconds faster than the rest of the field...
genesis02.jpg

But in the end I enjoyed the races and I like the car :) . 2 completed race, +728 DR :) .

@Mistah_MCA thanks for the use of your ghost. I got my best lap time while chasing it around Maggiore. It's not all that great of a time, but at least it's top 100. I didn't realize that the game doesn't care if you go below the curb at turn 4. 👍
There's something that I'm still missing, though. I'm still 1.5 seconds behind the top time. :boggled:

Seeing all of the comments on here about the Megane Trophy made me try it out. I first tried it out on my EU account (which I hadn't used until today) and immediately I noticed it drove better for me than the Alfa. Did some laps and got a 1:29.4xx and was disappointed since that lap is slower than the Alfa lap I did on my NA account but it felt better. Switched back to my NA account and bought the Megane Trophy and on the first lap improved my fastest lap by .002 over the Alfa lap. After two hours of struggling to improve and throwing my headphones a couple of times, I ran an awful lap that was 3 tenths faster than my previous best but good enough to put me in Top 10 stars for now :odd:. 1:28.920 was the time but I honestly have no idea how I got that time because it was awful. Hopefully you can see the many mistakes I made on this lap.

I wish!!!

I miss B spec, but I want GT4 mixed with GT5 B spec. I want to be able to train drivers to drive like me AND I want to be able to driver swap for endurance races.

I miss B Spec too, I loved B Spec. My drivers name was Buddy, as in, Hey buddy, pick up the pace would ya!!

It was great for earning credits and I also enjoyed swapping places with my driver for longer races. The mix of the two games B Spec Modes would be awesome! Let’s hope GT7 gets B Spec back. :)

Also, wicked scene from DoT, I haven’t seen that movie in years, gonna have to watch it this weekend now.

Thank you very much . Originally there is no DX Racing "logo", but without it feels a little empty to me. But... maybe I'll remove it :) .

Nice work man!

I usually end up making 2 or more versions of a livery when I’m torn on a sticker or two like that, then you can have it both ways. ;)

Daaamn, still not got that 1:19 time.... Tryed the advice I got from you guys, just cant put the lap together.
Opt. 1:19.7xx

Best lap 1:20.117. Game does not want me to go below that
Will try other car tomorrow, maybe its the audi thats slowing me down :D
Not many mistakes in this lap. But 1.2sec slower than top 1 at emea???

Having success on Race C using the Ferarri on FM1 and short shifting to do a no stop. I am B/A or S with a qualifing time of 1.22.121 which is generally starting me midpack. I am taking the inside on T1 to avoid all the BS and settling in trying to run consistent 1.23 laps. I have won the last two races and generally finish top 5.

The key to a fuel management race is to 1. stay out of trouble and 2. Race cleanly and consistantly 3. don't push it too hard and kill your tires. I lift if someone starts to bump and let them pass. Like any race, if you get into a position fight with someone...you are going to lose time to the leader.
