It probably does. GT Sport doesn't specify these kind of rules but when you see things like the below as being within the rules you have to expect (and accept) that people will race like this in the game.

The soft tyres hold up really well. Optimal strategy seems to be start on softs, pit at the end of lap 7 taking on new softs and fuel. Some element of fuel saving is needed though as going flat out in FM1 won't last 7 laps.

There actually seems little point to having the hard tyres available at all. No way could you no stop this race with any kind of meaningful race time.

How did the stewards rule that as legal? "The guiding principle is that the driver on the outside should be at least level (front axle in line with front axle) with the driver on the inside to have a claim to the racing line on corner exit." Wheels bumped wheels, exactly level, could have ended so much worse.

The whole problem with that guiding principle is that it's so easy to manipulate in GTS. Just let off the brakes early to shoot a bit ahead at the apex and 'rightfully' push the other car out to make the corner yourself. GTS tried before to see where cars make contact, who is in front, yet with dives the perp is usually slightly ahead at time of contact.

I can't get back into GTS this week. I just tried race B, got bumped off, no penalty for the car hitting me. Then got bumped into another car so we both went off, no penalty for the instigator, yet now the other car wanted revenge on me. He hit me from behind twice, 2 SR Downs for me, then managed to dive bomb me off the course, no penalty for him. It's a free for all, perhaps due to my DR.A vs DR.B drivers. Hopefully there are better races (tracks) next week since the penalty system is getting more lenient on wide tracks all the time. I don't feel like battle royale racing.

Man, Maggiorrie group 3 has been butchered by the new grip model. Just understeer, understeer and more understeer, it's excruciating. Sucked all the fun out of it, really need to be on mediums with this grip model, hards are just joyless.

Maybe that is why I am not getting on very well with my normal cars? The Lexus does not seem so bad, so perhaps try a few different cars?

Welcome to the political world of F1

There are a number of elements that need to be known to really understand this one (to me it looked like a penalty).
  1. FIA F1 rules make no specifics about 'corner rights'. There are rules about defensive moves and moving under braking, but once in a corner, there are no rules about who has the right to a certain bit of track. The guiding principles of corner rights being talked about here aren't used in F1.
  2. FIA F1 rules state that a penalty can only be issued if a single driver is fully responsible for a collision (or potential collision). As I understand it, in this instance the stewards decided that Leclerc in the Ferrari had a small element of blame because he would have known that Verstappen would need the bit of track he was on, and Verstappen wasn't driving dangerously through the corner. He was on the brakes in time and was following a predictable line. I've not explained that brilliantly, partly because I don't fully understand it myself, but essentially the collision wasn't 100% Verstappens fault (in the eyes of the stewards).
  3. FIA stewards have faced a lot of flack recently for issuing penalties where fans and drivers have felt they weren't needed. It's a bit of a hot topic that the drivers need to be allowed to race, without the fear of penalties.
  4. It took the stewards something like 4 hours to decide no penalty should be issued. How much point 3 came into that I wouldn't like to say.
I was surprised at this as I work to the rule of always leaving space for the other car, no matter who is on the inside or outside or however much overlap there is. It turns out that maybe I should be a bit more aggressive!

I don't know if you saw this that someone posted a link to not so long ago:
https://f1metrics.wordpress.com/2014/08/28/the-rules-of-racing/

In 7, "The guiding principle is that the driver on the outside should be at least level (front axle in line with front axle) with the driver on the inside to have a claim to the racing line on corner exit."

Does that explain why some of those people on the inside regarded themselves as entitled to run you off on the outside?

It's pretty simple. If you want to hang it around the outside, you had better give the car that you are passing a good reason to take a tighter line.

Since I am (aka WAS) primarily motorcycle focused on race tracks, I take the same approach to how I drive in GTS. That is, the person behind is responsible for the safe pass. "Behind" consists of eyesight. If I can't see you in my peripheral, you are behind me. This is why I dislike the cockpit view. If we had proper VR support, I may be able to see what is beside me, but with the fixed camera, it's like horse blinders.

I also find that the cockpit doesn't "disappear" (so to speak) like it does in real life, for me at least. What I mean by that is that when I go out on track in my car, although I definitely feel enclosed, I can also feel the front corners of the car. It's somewhat like the car around me isn't really there. Since I am not in real contact with the game's cockpit, I can't feel it, and it remains an obstruction.

I generally find that a lot of people drive with a sense of entitlement, as if they are playing single player. They feel entitled to everything and any attempt they make to pass is valid while any attempt to be passed is invalid. I suppose it comes from a narcissistic view on the world that is common in childhood and adolescence.

You mention the outside of the corner, but the apex is also a problem. I have often got my car in on a safe pass only to have the leading car turn toward the apex as if I have magically disappeared.

In general I assume anyone, that I don't know, will drive like they are racing the AI.

Maybe that is why I am not getting on very well with my normal cars? The Lexus does not seem so bad, so perhaps try a few different cars?

The merc is my go-to car and it's awful, just CANNOT get on the throttle or it understeers. Resorting to the more nimble Porsche which was a bit slippery pre-grip model change and now is about right. Cars that felt right are now understeering on exit. Will try the Lexus too as it's usually a little slippy.

WHY CAN'T I FIGURE THIS TRACK OUT!!!!!!! I'm sorry for yelling, i feel better now though.... lol

Seriously though. I did an hour and a half of hot laps last night and 4 races this morning and i still just can't get it solved. Use ghost, watch @Mistah_MCA vid wich always helps when i have trouble. But nothing is helping it "click" yet...

I've been working on it this morning, and had to take a break because I got frustrated by spinning the car out near the end of the lap, when I was on pace for a personal best lap. That's always a kick in the nuts. :banghead:

Ouch, i hate that. another probem i am having is that the car is much more prone to spinning in race. This feels like the biggest, qualifying- race, difference in a while.

I dislike Fuji

That said I shared up a quick two laps from this morning in b qual.
Same line as yesterday. No tcs.
Didn’t hit very well but knocked a second off.
The time there is about adding maintenance throttle early and getting power down asap.
I don’t have the patience for many laps of qual.
If I were gonna race I’d qual Supra.
Run something else...
Hope someone finds the replays useful.
The yellow line is your friend and so am I.

First race for the week.. B. Started off with the M3. Seems like a safe choice to start with. My goal was not for a top 10 qualy.. I just wanted something below 2.01. I managed that, and I got lucky.. an all DR/D grid! I started P5/15... happy with that.

Race starts and no dramas into T1 for a change.. the whole race was pretty civilised.. at least up my end. At one stage I was up to P3, but I was just a little too close to the car in front. A Lambo, McLaren... I dunno.. one of those 4 wheel cockroaches. He takes a couple of the corners slower than me. I bumped him once, then dropped back to allow him to settle his car rather than driving through. Orange SR. Happened a second time. This time 3s penalty. Dropped to P6. I was harassing the guy in front and came close to getting a pass a few times, but not quite without pushing him off, so I had to back out. One car comes off, and then in the final lap I manage to pass him on the inside at the bank and keep ahead to the finish! I certainly felt like I had a lot of control with the M3... now I just need to control myself .

SR dropped a point, DR went up just over 500... I'm back in 4 digits again! Another day above DR1 :dopey:.

The other thing is that the lap before max did the same move and gave him the space just to get passed right back down the straight. Second time he wasnt letting Charles have that space to blow his doors off again. If Charles went wide he could have avoided it or tried to switch back. If i was charles id be salty too but if i was max i probably would have done the same thing. It was close.

Ouch, i hate that. another probem i am having is that the car is much more prone to spinning in race. This feels like the biggest, qualifying- race, difference in a while.
I've been doing all my laps with the brake bias set at +1 & +2, so I could get more rotation on the tight corners.

Just to try something different, I changed it to -2, and immediately smashed my personal best time. I can't say for sure that the two things are related, but it may be worth a try. Hope this helps. 👍

My Maggiorrie qualy after only a few laps was a 1.59.8, I knew I had more, put together a decent lap and crossed the line after the countdown had ended at a 1.58.8. About 5 seconds later the screen faded, matching happens and i am listed at 1.59.8, that one second was worth 5 positions, p3 vs p8.

Been hot lapping on races A and B today.

Race A: 2:14.333 in the Toyota. Did maybe 20 laps, so I think there more time I can gain here.
Race B: 1:57.207 in the Audi (BB -2). That's my fastest ever lap of Maggiore in a GR3 car. The Audi post-update feels like it suits my style of driving - at least at this track.

I've had a bit of a 'mare with Race B so far today. I qualified with a low 1:57 and ran 5 events, each time finishing in the bottom 3 after starting mid-pack, losing 3.2k DR in the process.. The supra just doesn't feel the same to me in the race as it does in qualifying. I can run consistent laps with the 911 but it gets monstered down the straights by the Toyota. Back to the drawing board on this one!
Sorry for the reply being mega out-of-sync with the rest of the thread, but yeah I agree on the Supra. It handles very differently in-race, it understeers more and there's so little grip, despite all settings being the same. It's odd. I went back to the R8 LMS and was instantly running faster and smoother.

Did the R8 get changed this week? It feels weird, like trying to steer a cruiseship in Race B, compared to how amazing it was at Race C last week.

I'm convinced PD hates the Audi R8. Constantly nerfing it and making it twitchy as all heck. although, I found that after the update prior to the past one, it became easier to drive WITHOUT TC on. Which I found strange.

Oh yeah, you're right. My memory is terrible.

Sardegna must be better to suited to the R8 than Maggiorre, I guess.

Maggiorre has a lot of turns and not so many straights. I've always found the R8 to be tricky on these types of tracks. I prefer "shorter" cars like the 911 on tracks such as Maggiorre or Interlagos, etc. The R8, IMO, is better suited for "faster" tracks, like DT Seaside.

But that could just be me.

I encountered a lot of this at Brands Hatch last week. People saw the slightest opening and tried sticking their nose in and of course, if they didn't make it, they would tap me and if they spun out, I was given the SR down.

Same for me... qualy time with BB-2 but racing at BB+1 and TCS 2 to avoid mistakes. Patience and clean laps pay off when the checkered flag flyes

Seems like breaking earlier is the way to go (it avoids the understearing everyones seems to be getting)

tried a few qualy laps at Maggi last night in about 5 different cars - found the 911 to be most consistent and ended up posting a 1:58.0xx but i know all the time i lose is early on in the lap at the right hander at the top of the hill and the right hander at the bottom of the hill.. easily a second or so there. Anyway, fancied a race but jumped onto my 2nd account to try from the back with no qualy.. P1 - P4 all posted 1:55 - 1:56 and the rest of the field were all in 57-00's so i thought this was going to be a tough one. I started P15... end of lap 1 i was 11th, end of lap 2 i was 8th.. finished in 5th in absolute bewilderment at how easy people just throw their races away. Surely after all this time it's not difficult to comprehend that battling 3 wide through corners is only going to end in tears

Yeah, it's one thing being fast for one lap in quali, but it's just as hard to be consistent for a race and not make mistakes, poor decisions and generally bottle it. By being clean and consistent you can make up a lot of places as people fall off the track, or push others off it, ahead of you!

I'm kinda surprised by my progress on Maggiore GP. I'm already at 1.58.800.

Gotta love that track and the mighty RSR!:bowdown::bowdown:

Exactly, my first sector is a ****show, lot of time lost on the first and second turns and in the corner that leads to that first hairpiin-on-a-hill.

With gr3 on wheel imo fr is the far superior choice day in day out.
More powerful and stable.
Tcs can be on and not intrude if you drive well.
The benefit of having it on is consistency and also being able to sustain contact and also avoiding spins when you get a bit overeager on exit.
On wheel tcs is very tied to steering angle.
With the steering angle it’s ideal to have that be at max at apex and unwind on exit getting on throttle.
You can be very fast with it on by being able to run and not have it intrude.
I think on wheel if you are not a s yet you would be well served to use tcs and choose from the powerful stable cars in gr3.
With handling cars like the 911 or r8 if you can’t carry the speed in the corner and get that exit you’ll have trouble with times and consistency.
If someone starts attacking and you are on compromised lines...I dunno, I have a hard time recommending mr gr3 to say the c s d s or low mid b s drivers.
As people are realizing qual vs race is a big difference.
I’m not trying to come off like some guru.
I just enjoy helping folks out and I’ve put in a lot of study and practice developing a strategy for sport mode.
I’m happy to help in game and feel free to friend me up.
I’m just not into the look st me culture of streaming etc.
I do enjoy assisting people who wanna get better faster and maybe hit the frustration feelings that happen.
Anyways good luck and happy days

Morning race B. QT just under 2:00. Started near the back. Finished last. Had a similar race last night.

rant: Never seen so many cars miss turns and then refuse to yield. Nobody looks around anymore. Races are just a bunch of cars hot lapping. Why do you even need other racers to do that? :irked: /rant

I haven't done the race yet, but I've started braking a bit earlier for turn 1, and tiptoeing though it, because getting to the throttle too soon will push you off the outside. Especially because I am using TCS 0, combined with an X button throttle, which is a ridiculous handicap against the fast guys (100% my own fault). :dunce:
The majority of people would completely lose their minds if they had to drive the way I do. I'm used to it, though. I have fun. You know that saying about old dogs and new tricks.
Anyways, I found that attacking that track too hard in qualifying makes slow lap times.

I’ve not seen anyone use the Subaru on race A. It’s the same car as the 86 right? Why is no one using it?
IRL I would definitely go with the Subaru. The only reason I use the Toyota in the game is because the engine sound tells me when to shift, instead of looking down at the rpm gauge. The Subaru doesn't do that.

I had a bunch of decent races this morning. There is clearly a difference in guys who have figuered this track out and those who have not. Pretty much every race had three groups. The fast guys, the guys who should be fast and the rest.... lol

I then went back to try and put a better time in. The result is the above pic. I am now starting to hate this track more with every lap. Tryin to feel the turismic flow, he he, but i am simply off the pace a bit through the whole lap and it is MAKING ME CRAZY!!!!!! time for working, ill try againg tonight i guess. I can't help myself lol

I think I dislike Fuji as much as I like fast race cars.
That one left up the hill just doesn’t feel right to me.
Just the layout in general.
I just can’t get motivated for Fuji the way I can for say Nurb GP
I did my ten laps I’m good.
Dr2 disk might go in tonight.
