We all know it’s gonna be the GT86 for the 3rd time in 4 Weeks. Is Toyota having a Big Sale or something?

Edit: And on that note, I got the GT86 down to a 2:22.6. :)

BB-4

And I thought my 23.4 might keep me at the top of my friends list for a couple hours, at least. Do 8 laps, get down to 23.4 (opt. 23 flat) back out and I see your time. 9th in the region last I looked. I'm at 25 and I really want to get on that list! Brake balance...I didn't even think about that! Could be worth something, especially at the docks and pit in. I'm sure I can get into the 22's, but I don't know how deep. I'll try to catch you, though. Of course, you know @sturk0167 will come along, push me down the list, and that will **** me all up, and I'll spend an hour hitting walls trying to get my spot back! :banghead:

Just ran one each of A & B.

A race was fairly clean, I was the only non Japanese flag in the race. Started mid-field and gained two spots. T1 was clean :D

Race B - well not dirty, but no-one in the back half of the field is getting a driver's licence soon. I got nudged at T1, the culprit got by but tried to occupy the same bit of track as a car that had started two places further back again. They both span/slid and both managed to come back on track in time to hit me, followed by both going off track again. Apparently I deserve 5 seconds for that.
End of lap 1 a car that has pooched the last tight left gets himself sorted out near the right kerb. Now accelerating but still 20mph under pace, he dives for the racing line with no regard for faster traffic behind. I don't hit him, but in dodging I do brush the wall on the right and get another half second.
Remainder of the race wasn't much better. Ended five places down and red SR.

When Fuji with Gr. 2 (C race) was live a while back, I remember trying to no-stop it, only to fail those attempts, mainly due to spinning out or going insanely slow at the end.

I was doing some races today for the C race guides, and I went ahead and attempted a no-stop. This time, I was able to not only keep the car under control at all times, but somehow win the race.

I remember saying that you either had to be an idiot or have a team name on your handle to pull it off.
I guess I finally fit the criteria...!
... The idiot criteria, not the team one.

...well darn.

Also these penalties feel a little off sometimes.

Got to say I have been fooling around with qualifying but no racing last couple of days and while I find Fuji on GR2 solid I am not enjoying the walls with the 86. It feels like I have to be ever so exact on things to get it to turn without sliding.

Going to have to go back to Fuji for a while instead.

Oh God, did a race A. Bad mistake. Got punted on the docks by 2 missiles lap 1 who didnt even attempt to brake. I saw them appear on my radar as I turned inoving so fast I got thought 🤬:banghead:. Got 7 seconds for colliding with another car even though it was so bad I got reset into last place. Ended up 5th in the end. Cost me 16 SR.

Then I went to Fuji. It won't let me start the race on Hard tires. I get punted by a spinning car on the exit of turn 1 ( as I was taking the lead due to the first 2 cars punting each other!!) Bad enough to get reset last. In 2 laps I am 7th with people trying swerve blocks, brake checks, the lot. But I am getting through ok. I pass a guy who serves a penalty, but he swerved to block me. I still get by, but in turn 1 I am blasted off track. He gets 1 sec. I go to pit lap 6 and accidentally put on medium tires again:banghead::banghead:. Use it to my advantage and get up to P3 when I come in on lap 10 and pit on hards, but when I come out it shows I didnt change tires at all? Have to go in end of next lap to do it. Ended up 4th overall. SR repaired but :boggled:. 1 guy pitted 4 times until he got Hards on. Something wrong here tonight.

Although monotonous repeat combos, I for one am actually liking this week's offerings.
A little bit of everything. Race A is what... the 3rd or 4th usage of the new 86, while we haven't even seen alot of the newest cars at all. This week though I'm loving the healthy boost of power they put in that thing, and they didn't even arbitrarily add a crap load of weight to offset it. For no reason other than to make the car harder to drive. I mean what kind of tuner supes his car up by a hundred HP but adds 400lbs of ballast just for the fun of it.... No one..ever.
That car is amazing like this, so much fun to drive, I wish PD would do this more often, I'm tired of driving cars that have been detuned and made heavier on comfort hards, just to make them as hard to drive as possible, screw that, supe it up and let's rip!!

B is a good combo, and 5 laps is just long enough to recover if you make a mistake and make a real race of it.

C is good too, but I like high downforce cars so I may be biased.

Enjoying B too much to have ventured there though. Also haven't had to go farm Sr yet. Hahah
Put down a decent q time at Interlagos and have been able to miss most of the mid pack madness so far.
1.32.3 in the NSX
Even snuck a cheeky 131.8 in race once.

I don't know why are people trying to overtake from the inside of the first turn of Interlagos.
I had some mexican behind me who overshot the turn, braked late and caused me precious seconds because the moron was blocking the path.
People like that should be banned.
I am just going to ignore daily races now.
The penalty system is still terrible and too many rear-ending fools running around without getting any harsh penalties.
Seriously, most of every other race is a clean race but idiots like these prevent racing from being fun.
Actually think that the inside of t1 is a fabulous spot to overtake, as long as you have overlap and doesn't bomb. If you are on the outside you do not automatically have a right to the Qt racing line. As long as the inside has overlap at turn-in you are the one who should yield.

Edit: radar, radar, radar. Always be aware of your surroundings.

Second edit: when looking at the replays of my bad races (so far just two of them) I can't just say the others where dirty. The accidents that I took the blunt off was more inability or too much driving on the edge for racing. The three way accident I got caught up in, making it a four car wreck festival, was a MR car sliding and two FR cars too close. When they all went sideways I had two choices: stopping mid track and getting rear ended or ducking to the inside. I did the later but it didn't pay off. No-one else to blame.

Tried Race A... all 12 of us left with red dots... Don't think I'll be trying that again.

Mine were similar although it was the first day in DR C lobbies (wheel racing at Laguna was a disaster) and this layout hasn't been used since 2018 so... I can't say I'm surprised. It's pretty different from overused layouts like Central and East Outer. It can be particularly tricky around the dock area and I often saw people pick up 0.5s track penalties there alone besides wall ones.

I'd suggest trying it again later in the week when there are more familiar with the layout.

After an abysmal and painful free fall in DR over the past week, and after enormous amount of cursing and nearly smashing the controller, I decided to boot up and fix this. I watched replays of fastest laps, took tips, and set to work. In 2 days, I shaved off 2.xx secs in Race B quali, and in the last race I started 5th, and took my First Victory

This weeks race A is not mine. I just drove some laps in Qualifying, but I don't like the combination. The car is in my opinion not enough stable. I can keep it under control, but I don't think in a battle with another driver. I prefer the lobby this week. Have some good laps on Fuji and Interlagos, but I am out this week.

Giving up on my Clean Races streak. Managed to reach nine clean races in a row three times before being reset due to dangerous and unpredictable drivers. My DR is also taking a huge hit from what I assume is being too cautious and placing low every time. Not sure how DR works, though. In any case, for those wanting to go on a Clean Races streak, this week's Daily Race B at Interlagos is the perfect way to do it. I just don't have the patience anymore to try and aim for that Level 3 achievement.

Daily Race A at Tokyo? Too many yellow flag penalties because there's always, without fail, at least two players who take the turn way too wide and end up having to get placed back on the course.

Really nailed it with that new penalty system tweak didn’t ya Polyphony

In that second video you see me get 1 second for being rear ended off track, and you'll notice that I am not completely off track. From my car, I still had two wheels on the curb.

I just...honestly...i just don't know HOW they are messing this up. The more we talk about it, the more solutions are presented. Yes, some are not possible, but many are totally possible.

You first video is another example of comparing car orientation to the racing line. The guy who hit you is at a great divergent angle, and he transfers energy to you.

Here's what I think is happening. I think a programmer created a faulty system, but he only got a limited shot at it. Now, there's a junior game designer in charge of tweaking this faulty system and he's working with parameters, but no substantive changes.

An eye exam is confirmed required for me cause I didn't even make the connection that we were racing together a good amount last night until just now. Like you pointed out with that stupid 1s penalty given to you in pt.2 there were even more BS penalties thrown around all throughout the night.

Couple more off the top of my head...
* 7s pen to you in the last infield turn of that same lap for bumping the car that spun in front of you
* 1.5s pen to you for going wide before the last corner in one of the next races (you in the Mustang)

Your theory of just tweaking parameters at this point lines up with the changes seen since 1.53 along with their wording in the patch notes. Kaz has already detailed how they determine penalties for track cutting. I'd imagine their system for contact penalties uses similar binary logic and has some sort of AI model for determining the severity. Which is likely what's completely out of whack at this point.

Related, that low-SR race we got into with you in the Mustang was really enjoyable. Low-pressure, enjoyable racing and I think you would've pulled the victory if not for that stupid 1.5s penalty.

And there's the problem. Because you weren't completely off track the game counts it as a "brake check". If you'd gone not much more than a tyre's width wider, the car who hit you would have got 3 - 7 seconds for "colliding with another car" or "forcing a car off track".

Oh ya, the 7 second penalty...sigh...

I totally missed that article about how their system works. So, ya, more complicated than it needs to be and, ergo, completely not working at all.

FFS, the real world doesn't use AI. The real world looks at rule books.

Are the SR up/down arrows still showing up? Either I've become blind to them or they stopped showing them on the hud.
I haven't noticed them popping up, perhaps there's less of them.

What I have noticed is an overnight change in Race A - yesterday, drivers getting penalties at the start of the dock zone were having to run a whole lap to run them down, today they're running down the same lap.

That's an improvement :)
