Soooo, i decided to pull the trigger on Sport Mode and joined my first daily race ever. Monza / Race C of course :D

Qualified with a honest 1:47,275.

So i joined the lobby expecting to see a grid full of GTRs and fast qualifying laps...

Ok, it wasn't what i expected

So i thought "Well, that being the case, i'll start with Hards since it will be the first time i use them so i can see how they are" (Yes, never used Hards on GT Sport before this race)

Ok, it wasn't what i expected Pt.2 because i basically went straight in T1, managed to contain the damage and even managed to stay in P1 because there was a destruction derby behind me.

Same thing happened in T2.

Starting from the Roggias, i "adapted" to the Hards and started gapping the others. MFW i had 12 secs at the beginning of lap 3 :odd:

At the end of lap 8 i decided it was time to switch to Mediums and went to the pits, then finished my race.

Then i thought "By seeing the requirements of the race, i figured out i needed to do a pit stop to use both the required tires... but did the others?"

Now i have a question: Is the cut penality different between Sport Mode and Lobbies? Because there were a few occasions in T1 and T2 in which i swear i normally would've gotten a penalty

You have the lowest of low DR when you first start racing online, I guess to prevent brand new accounts from racing with A+ aliens. If you can manage a 1:47 quali lap you'll very quickly get up to at least DR B where people start to figure out what they're doing. :)

What he said. If you place well, maybe less than 10 races. You'll need 5 to get above DR E.

You're tied for the best winning percentage in GT Sport history. Superstar 👍

Sounds like a cheater to me. He's the kind of guy to not take mandatory tires, and win the race with a 20sec penalty :banghead:

Bonjour StorM !
Oh, that explains it.

Edit: @GT_Alex74 Was that you I raced or storM, as in Veloce_storM? I'm confused...

I felt so outclassed that I stayed out of his slipstream on the Dottinger Hohe out of respect.

You will find that DR/E, D, and C people will drive whatever the heck they want. Once people get to DR/B they start turning into sheep and you find the proportion of people driving the META increase. The problem is, half the time they don't know how to get the best out of the car to capitalise on the attributes that make it the META and just become a menace on the track.

The other thing you will find is that a lot of people don't read the race requirements. Reading forums like this gives you a big heads up on things like that. @Famine 's weekly article on the races for the week also helps.

I've said before (usually in the FIA threads, where the tyre requirement normally lives) that the mandatory tyres thing is just one example of a terrible user interface in this game. In the Race Details screen it's hidden down at the bottom. In the pre-race lobby screen it's at the bottom right, not where any of the other interesting information is that people might look at. There's no suggestion there's a penalty for not using those tyres, and once you get the penalty there's no explanation for it.

To see an entire field of E rated drivers get faced with this in one of their introductory experiences with the game is depressing. They've probably had a miserable race with a bowling alley at turn one and people not handling their cars properly because they're new to the game or the car's bad for the track (a Subaru and a Z4 FFS) and they're seeing someone pull out a total of what, 4 seconds per lap on them by the end of the race? Then once the race is over they all get another massive penalty afterwards without knowing why. Racing games can be hard enough for newcomers, so it's extremely frustrating to think that new players might be put off by a situation like this.

That said

That post-race screen is hilarious

There goes 2nd and 3rd race.

I got matched with players with similiar quali times.

Got punted and made a few mistakes in both races.

7th in 2nd race and 4th in 3rd, had my fun :D
I'm a high B/low A driver and my qualifying time is a 47.1, so that's around where you can expect to reach once you're out of E. I also know the Gr.3 GT-R better than any other car.

It's also best to extend the life of the softer compounds as much as possible in this game. The tyre life of harder compounds doesn't outweigh the extra grip of the softer tyres. Most people are running the mediums for 6 or 7 laps in this race, so don't worry about overdoing them.

Haha, that was me indeed. And yeah, I was like "why the hell is he not going in the slipstream" ?

PS : IGTL SE2 is next week, come give it a go :)

Another day around the Nordschliefe, inbetween shopping then dropping supplies off for in-laws & my Dad, in their 70's +
Anyway. Had to call out & then let the room know there was a few dirty racers around, after race there was a lot of agreement. One person started to quit rooms I was in because I said several times " u r fast, no need to drive dirty"
I did make one wrong call after several intense races, on reflection I think they were just caught up in the mayhem & made hard but fair moves under the circumstances. Had a psn chat & hope they accepted my apology.
I still haven't won one, so thank 🤬 I don't have to figure out video sharing thing  A few podiums but no top step :)

I did one lap of qualifying for Race B, and apparently, my time puts me in the top 600 already. Is that good? I think I’m off the top times by about 5%.

As soon as the entry started I thought “Hahaha, why did it match me with these guys? There’s no way this is fair for them.”

That was with track cut penalties on two separate laps. No one set a lap faster than 2:04. My best was a 1:59.5. There was no reason for them to have had me in their race.

All Race A, B, and C... most drivers follow the same pattern is doesn't know how to race a damn car. They are expert-created penalties often time cried out received the penalty. Its been going over and over through months/years. So mostly I just drive for the time trial, among other except no race till I finally raced at Race C with time 1.48.xxx. I just laugh so hard I got punted twice and quit instantly. But before quit the race. I chase the car who punted me. I rammed full speed that knocks the car flying. Then quit. I will race only the track course I'm expert at and others cant get me.

Kudosprime likes to rate you based on the percentage off the top time. So, their logic says that it’s a good time for you if 5% off is better than normal for you. Then again, I bet the long Lap probably both increases the spread and reduces the number of people who qualify.

So I haven’t any idea if it’s good or not.

Another way to think about it...I think I’m in the top 1000 for QTs at Monza. Haven’t checked today. That makes me competitive in A/B rooms for the dailies

I was in the top 250 QT last night at Tokyo for Race A. I was getting my butt kicked in the same kind of room actually racing. (I’m also like 5th or 6th in my friend’s Top 10 list with that same time...people around here are like...fast fast).

All of this is to say....that there are a lot of variables that go into it.

Monza. A few 3rds earlier doors and then a lobby from hell.

Pure chaos first lap.
Up to 3rd out of the desmos and then was lined up by two GT-Rs.

They sat at my bumper and when I brakes for the left hander absolutely nerfed me off into the gravel.

Then I get back on only for a ferrari to rear ended me on the next lap and me to get the penalty and negative rating.

Disaster.

The matchmaking goes a bit funky at anything below SR S from my experience. I've been thrown into lobbies with DR D and C folks after some... more spirited races.

I have been seeing a bit of this so far this week as well. Can have some really good lobbies with fantastic races, or at least almost totally clean. Then a rogue demon lobby shows up and your SR evaporates. I have had some fantastic races so far this week. If it wasn't for the massive SR penalty for some muppet blasting until turn 1 I would probably still be at 99 SR. Got a neutral rating at 1 race for getting tapped into turn 1, not punted, and getting tapped again by someone spinning out on my inside and just clipping my tail.

Oh well. We shall see how it goes later.

I did actually pull a nice set up for my win last night. Saw I had a D/S driver starting directly behind me in a McLaren F1. So I was sluggish at the start to have them just on my inside heading to turn 1. Sure enough they didnt brake, took out 3 people and I drive nicely through the ghosts to second. P1 went off at lesmo 1 and that was it. Strategizing.:sly:

Let me add to this, I didnt think the guy wasn't going to brake because of his driver rating entirely, but because he is in a McLaren and no one was really braking into turn 1 that night. And I remember the red mist descending when I was in the situation he was.

I remember the cool (and faulty) logic that put me in the same place a couple times... it's the start and we're not up to full speed yet so we can brake closer to the corner safely.... WRONG. Inexperience, cold tyres and slipstream (faster than anticpated, less downforce) trump "lower" speed at T1/L1

I don't like to be a sheep and follow the META car so whoever recommended the Mustang for Race C earlier this week, why thank you! Was a very good shout indeed.

I'm down to 1:46.9 at the moment but want to get an idea of how others are going faster in the same car. Top ten is nothing but GTR. Anybody here have a replay in the Mustang that could help?

When you look on your KudosPrime page where is shows all your old Q/TT times, there is an option at the top of that list that says “Target Times”, click on it and it will show your your personal target time for each co,no, each week based on your own K’Speed Score. :)

The last C race i did was a complete failure, i ended like 10th.

Got punted several times and never managed to lap lower than 1:50 (pushing to regain some positions costed me a few penalties in T2 and i of course had to use strange Racing Lines to avoid contacts).

For the first time in my life i saw people managing to completely mess up in the parabolica and punt people into the gravel (including me), nice thing is that i took penalty because of some guy that didn't even think about using his brakes and slammed into me.

I don't know how these guys managed to have a B/A - A/A - Highwhateveritis.

Good thing is that somehow i got promoted to SR A after that race.

Almost a decent result in my first race, started 15th on the hard tyre, pitted lap 3 3 for the mediums where with 2 laps to go was in 8th when lap 9 T1 some idiot braked way to late and hit 2 of us off, ended up finishing 13th beating the rammer at least.
