Took a chance with qualifying. Pretty clean up the front. Finished 1.1 seconds behi d the leader. I do think they backed off on the last lap(have to check the replay). I closed the gap from 3 seconds.

I feel the Genesis has a bit more stability mid-corner.
 
GR3 race at the ring.
I let a chap go up the inside for T1 so we don’t both crash and so I can fight for T2 which I’m quite strong at.
I have my nose alongside him in order to stop him taking the inside line. He turns in and wiggles but only looses a position to me (not large contact by any means).
He then full throttle smashes me off the track at T3.

Last lap and the chap in front of me decides to try and take us both out to stop me passing, fails. On the exit of the final corner I’m compromised and the chap from my earlia incounter rams me into the barrier... :lol:

Like, I’m so confused, why did he turn into me and then why did he get so upset about a tiny amount of contact? He was faster than me which is how he caught me anyway :lol:

...though because of his antics I also lost DR points... ahh well

Finally got my SR back to 98/99 so decided to do a qualifying lap instead of starting at the back. Got my first ever daily race pole position...and then got kicked because of that crappy connection bug. I just don’t know any more.

EDIT: 4th on grid in next race and kicked again. Another rare night of planned GT wasted.

EDIT 2: 2nd on grid...kicked. The GT Gods are against me.

I was in your position as far as SR. Dropped from 99 to 32 in only a few races. To get back I did not qualify for Daily Races, started at the rear and let everyone dive ahead. Then I’d basically time trial the race and avoid impact. Granted my DR ended back at 1 (down from 8,000) but I’m SR 98/99 again and it’s easy enough picking up DR points in DR D races.

It's quite consistent, yet the reasoning behind it escapes me as well. If both cars go off track, the one leaving the track last is considered the 'victim' and the one that left first gets the penalty. Just as weird as when more than 2 cars are involved, the one that made contact last and stayed on the road gets the penalty. So if you want to punt someone off, use another car as a cue ball, or follow them off track to escape a penalty...

I've been observing how penalties are applied since reading your various descriptions and you seem to have nailed it. However last night I did a race C where something happened that didn't seem to fit the 'algorithm'.
Gr.2/RBR, at the second tight turn heading down the hill. I'd been all over the back of this guy at previous corners so I decided to commit to a pass at this one. Took the inside line, slightly overcooked it but I wouldn't say it was a full on divebomb - I think he could have avoided me but he didn't. From my perspective it was like he turned in on me mid corner and gave me a slight tap, then rebounded off to the outside and into the gravel trap. I groaned to myself waiting for the penalty to be applied, but it wasn't.

In the replay it looked a lot more like I aggressively pushed him out of the way. In any case, contact was made, he went off track and I didn't, but no penalty??
 
Finished 6th staying away from cars on the first lap, now I'm SR C.
And next race got disconedisco at the start..
Sigh, that's it for tonight, no point really...

What’s a competitive lap time for gr4 at Maggiore?

Depends on what group of drivers you want to be competitive with. I’m not 100% sure what’s good for DR B, but I think you might want to at least get yourself into the 2:07’s.

I’m a low DR A+, I did a quick run in the 650S last night and got into the high 2:05’s, for reference. I think I might need a little more than that though.

I disagree. I have had plenty of side by side and mid corner bumps. As long as it has not created a change in line or an off track, no penalties seem to be issued, just sr down. If both are trying to be clean, that should be the most of the contact, unless of course a mistake occurs then a penalty should be issued. This is in a perfect world where everyone is trying to race clean.

Sure, you can bump as much as you want as long as both cars stay on the road. I disagree however that that's fair racing. A change in line happens with any bump. If it works to create a bump pass then that's still a foul. Same if it results in a dirty block succeeding. Also when you avoid a bully or missile by driving yourself off, the bully escapes free and you might end up with a shortcut penalty.

Racing was better when the fear of penalties was real. However all those penalties also resulted in creating more incidents with people trying to burn them off on the racing line while blocking traffic and trying to steal momentum by brake check serving penalties.

Instead of turning penalties off for anything that doesn't result in contact -> car off road (with wonky track limits and all) PD should have changed how penalties can be served. Pit drive through, at the end, or forgiven if you safely give the position back within 20 seconds.

I've had that happen as well. Either the bump is not enough to register for the penalty system or it's bugged like everything else. It could be that the track limits for penalties are messed up at the spot, would not surprise me.

Another weird case is when someone comes from off track and rams you, you can end up with the penalty. It's like the game mixes up cause and effect.

Well I decided to enter in a couple Nürburgring gp races today. The second was the more interesting of the two.
I took out a guy by mistake on lap one. He was in second me in 3rd. I just wasn’t expecting him to slow down so much with a good qual time but after seeing the replay I noticed he was one of our sometime fast but often out of control South American friends. My fault for not avoiding his inside but sheesh he was in the Porsche. I collected the dreaded down sr arrow. I pulled off the racing line immediately and slowed to wait for him and 4-5 cars go by and I don’t see him so I start racing. I get all the way back to 3rd and get punted under braking down to 5th but re pass and am all over 3rd but not enough time to get through before the end. Mixed lobby with c and d in there as well as b.
I like the Mustang on there. So big and heavy and stable and it gets a good advantage against the handling car users with it’s power and still pretty good brakes. Just seems easy to drive on that track.
I could probably do another couple to get back from 95 to 99, but discretion is the better part of valor.
I should have spent more time qualifying and I could have started ahead of more folks but just got access to the game again today. Outside my mistake had some fun close racing. Good day!

Thanks. After my post, I broke into the 2.07s, and my best sectors gave a low 2.07. I’ll keep chipping away to see if I can hit the 2.06s before racing next week.

I’ll try the 650s too. I rarely use that for sport races.

The Mustang appears in the GT4 European Series, though it has the GT350R/RTR front end and a different spoiler.

Back too lobby racing till some good combo comes back.
 
Another day, another car. This time I thought I'd give the GTR a go. I know it's capable of better times, but I just couldn't do better than 1s slower than my Beetle time. I qualified P12/13, that changed to P10/11. I was hopelessly outclassed, mainly because I was a fake DR/C racing on a grid with real DR/Cs and a few DR/Bs thrown in :scared:.

I'm used to starting P10 by now, so full right lock and full throttle ready for the mid corner start when auto drive cuts out 👍. The pack up front took off while I slowly fell further and further back. The gap between me and P9 hovered between 4 and 6s. Suddenly I'm in P9 (but still second last :lol:) Last lap in the section before the chicane I passed a car that had come off. There must have been 2 because I was in P7 all of a sudden, and all set for a clean race bonus. Yeh, keep dreaming mate :crazy:. I turned into the chicane late which messed up my exit, which cut the inside of the exit just a bit too much. I served my penalty just before the line but still finished P7.

It was pretty demoralising doing laps within site of the convoy, but not a part of it. I really wanted to be Rubber Duck! Feel sorry for the guy who started P11. He dropped to 21s behind me for the last 2 laps, but still finished the race. I think that's pretty epic.

SR still 99 (hard to loose SR with no cars within 5s to hit! ). DR down by 100. Better than down by 1000! Day 8 visiting DR/C :dopey:.
 
Had a few more races at Red Bull last night after FIA, and ended on another win. I think it's safe to say Red Bull Ring is one of my best performing tracks, up there with La Sarthe...as long as I get a good qualy time of course. The 1:22.5 I put up was good enough for top 3 starting position almost every time (4 poles). Out of 18 total races there last week, I had 8 wins and 16 top 5 finishes. That's a win rate of 44% and top 5 rate of 88%. It doesn't get much better than that for me.

With the exception of one angry B/S driver sending me private, curse-filled messages about how mad he was that I went wide at T1 most laps, I had some very friendly, clean racing with fast, competitive guys and even saw a few GTP members around.

On that note, I'm going to be taking some time off from GT Sport, as I've neglected too many things at home and at work pretty much all year since becoming obsessed with the game. I'll be back to racing in a month or so, just need to get caught up. It's been great meeting and racing with you all, and I'll still be around here lurking in the comments. Happy racing everyone.

I've done my fastest lap there with the Lambo, a 2.04.7, but it was with the old tire model.

Crossed the line first with a 0.1s penalty about 0.8s ahead of second place. Lost the race by 0.1s. Has anyone else experienced this bug?

Just last night had a RB ring race, had pole and led the entire race except for a guy overtook me just after we both came out the pits into T2 and got us both 3 sec penaltys, I admit I made the gap smaller and smaller as I was divebombed and we rubbed door handles, then he inexplicably slowed on the run to the last fast right before pit entry and I somehow went round the outside of him and retook the lead.

I tried to use t2 to shave off the penalty along with the run to T3 when he vanished from being behind me, the replay showed he pitted again which I found baffling. Due to this I was caught by the new guy in 2nd place, held him off till the last lap when he divebombed me into the fast right before the pits and got himself a 0.4 penalty i think. I stuck as close to him as I could and finished 0.6 behind, and it gave me the win.

Well, after a several times doing the race B, i got a good result overall by increasing my DR in 4000. Need more 8000 to get to A+ DR so lets see what happens on next races rotation.

But on most of the races, I still got punted on T1 like this:

Had a go at Race A.

Got a message on around lap 5/7 that I was not connected. But the race carried on. White text notification on the bottom right and the red disconnected symbol. It ""successfully" reconnected after the race was over. I guess I got lucky.

We’re gonna hold you to that. This stuff can be pretty addictive. It’s important to get your priorities right and to find balance. Congratulations on your results and good luck with the reality check.

There are European cars in the north American GT4 series as well. Go figure.

My point is, I'm trying to stick official real world GT4 cars this week. As RZ pointed out, the Mustang isn't the official GT4(neither are the Vantage and M4), it's close enough.

I'm leaving out the fantasy cars, as I usually try all the cars. Just trying something different for immersion purposes.
 
with champonship pressure off and a lazy sunday I did a few Mini races, good fun, but not quite the quality of driving you see in the FIA, quite a few who will just barge you or not leave room, but overall for such a "slow" car the action was intense :)
