Why would someone need to be on a team? Are there benefits?
Às has been mentioned above, it can be about sharing knowledge and team race/drift practice sessions. I was part of a team in GT6 days and we often shared and improved on each others Time/Drift Trial tunes to benefit all of us. i still use the team name even though I'm the only one left because I've made many more PS friends since... and I'm way to lazy to start another profile and send out all the friend requests :O.

I rarely see people from here at the track. When I do, I kind of think of them like teammates. I try to drive extra carefully around them. I've used bumpers to defend them. I've pulled over to let Sven go by, at least a dozen times. I wouldn't intentionally rough any of you guys up. Though, I did accidentally knock Sven off the track at Lemans, but it was through a 3rd party. I made an bad move at Indianapolis, because I had tunnel vision, trying to catch up to the dude that hit me. :O

Ahh, who needs to be on a team?

I only did one race A tonight, started on the Pole but slipped off coming out of T1 on the 2nd lap and fell back to 3rd. I managed to stay right with the two of them the rest of the way but there was never a clean lane open to shoot by them and I didn’t wanna get caught in between either as they were getting pretty close, but very clean. I finished 3rd and only 3 tenths behind the winner. It was a good clean race minus the one error and I still ended up with a couple hundred DR and a Blue S. Maybe I’ll do another later but for now I’m not really feeling the racing tonight so it’s back to hot laps I go. This one’s gonna be hard to beat.

Mr @Sven Jurgens was in the race as well starting in his usual position, I believe he made it up to 5th/6th but an undeserved penalty knocked him back a spot or two in the end. Always a pleasure to race with you Sir. :)

@Sven Jurgens has a doctorate in the penalty points system so he'd be the best to answer. I was rearended and got an orange SR warning several times in the Gr4 race at Dragon Trail Gardens a couple of weeks back but it did not bring my SR down. I'm not 100% sure if the game can tell the difference between being hit from behind because you were taking the wrong line, going too slow or blocking or the times where someone hits you and it's their fault but lately I have found that my SR has not always dropped just because I get an orange SR warning, or even an in race penalty.

MR Cars like the Porsche and Audi are very much favoured. The top 10 ranking board is full of them. I'm more like top 10,000 and find MR cars a little difficult like yourself. I favour stable "planted" cars. The Beetle is one but I find on Nurb GB it lacks a little "oomph". AMG, Viper and Lexus 16 are all very solid there.

Oh it drops for every contact. You just don't notice it when you still come out positive (blue) and are already at 99 SR (or don't check how much you actually got) +1 SR is blue, however races are worth 5 to 25 points. (daily A and B are 5 to 7 points at SR.S, daily C is 12 to 25 points at SR.S depending on the track and number of laps)

Contact for which you don't get SR Down still reduces your SR for that race, however it does not cancel out the clean race bonus or SR up for that sector. It seems to be 1 or 2 SR points deducted for these kinds of contacts.
Contact for which you do get SR Down reduces your SR by 3 points at least (3 of these are enough to get a red rating in A or B dailies) and will cancel the clean race bonus and SR up for that sector. Getting bumped from behind usually gets you SR Down.
Contact for which you get a penalty (because the other car goes off road or touches a wall within 3 seconds of contact) cost you a lot of SR. One 2 sec penalty negates at least 8 SR for race A as I just found out. A car hit my rear bumper and went off, 2 sec for me and red S for that single contact. Race A is worth 7 points this week. I just checked as it was the race before PD locks in the SR for the day, -5 SR for that race, so -12 SR for that 2 sec penalty....

The game doesn't care what line you take. Whether or not you get a penalty seems to be more dependent on differences in SR and DR between the two parties involved rather than how it happened. The higher your DR/SR the more in the wrong you are. As D/E you can do whatever you want, as A+/S you have to avoid everyone at all cost.

They are part of a team (Orange Machines and Turismo Racing respectively).
That's interesting ... I was beaten by two orange cars - different cars - that seemed to be identically painted, they were faster than me, started 1&2, and the first one was a 1:55, at Nurb-F1 race B; but they were Japanese, and I don't recall their names. Curious.

Sorry for the noob question but why are people faster when they use the shifter?
Faster downshifting to send some torque to the wheels on a corner exit. Gives you a little more push on demand.

Hey I apologize if I misunderstood your question. The other guys summed it up far better than me. :dunce:

I went back in the ring again GP style...
Managed to start 8 this time.
Good solid beginning...T1 everyone in the fast line no side by side...I was hot on the tail of the fella ahead of me, then I saw a bit of mayhem in the left right into s2.
Got through it and onward!
Schumacher s good but coming up after that I had to slow for traffic boom 2 cars go by my inside, wha?
The second was a 911, I was able to maintain overlap and he relinquished and down the straight we went...
He was on my tail within striking distance until lap four the left right into s2...
He was bumper to bumper coming left, and I goosed it a bit early to try to escape...I went wide and relinquished, jumping back in behind...Good thing too, there were more cars in hot pursuit...
I would have passed him back if I had another lap or two...
Ah well start 8 finish 8...sr99! Woohoo. You do not wanna be low sr on this race.
I look at team name as...I dunno. I remember Talladega nights, “the car says me cuz it’s just you out there Ricky.”
Anyways I would go in country for a couple more, but works done tuckered me out.

Apologies to bomb the thread, however, I am fairly new to GT Sport (well, fairly = extremely!!).

Been away from gaming for about 20 years, but children are now old enough for me to start having a bit of "me time", so I got a PS4 and a G29 wheel and pedals set and starred caning GT Sport in earnest in the last few days. I am still only level 16 as I only play when the kids are in bed, but I am enjoying it immensely, having the wheel is just amazing for me and whilst I have RDR2 FIFA Spiderman, pretty much the only thing I am playing is GTS.

Because of the amount of time I have been away from gaming I am so used to playing against the computer that this racing against real people thing seems alien to me, however, unless I try it I probably will never know.

Are their any online races where I can actually be competitive and not trailing around depressing myself at how people got so fast? Are they speed rated? If someone could point a complete noob in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.
Wow, your story is identical to mine. I had the same thoughts as you back in September when I began GTS. Against AI, I’m like a god. Against people, very different story. I found a daily race each week that I would focus on, and not suck at, to acclimate my race style and reaction time. Eventually I could see a common behavior pattern drivers exhibit under various conditions. Basically, I learned to predict/anticipate the drivers in front, to the side and behind me. I’m still learning. The guys on this forum are rock stars. They can teach a lot just with their race recaps.

Nah thank you, all info is appreciated.

Not much time for racing tonight. Ran some laps at NGP for the first time. Did 2:03 in the Ford GT. Gonna take some time to figure this track out. Only raced one race. Race C. No Q, started 11/13. First lap was hectic. Lost people on T1, and by staying out of trouble, and taking the long way around a 3 way bumper car battle going into the esses, I got up to 7th, then 6th by the end of the lap. P5 took until L4 to get around, then I was gifted P4 when he pitted. Why anyone is pitting, I don't know, at least at this speed. P3 was 6 seconds ahead, but
I caught him on L6 when he got wide in Spoon and blew his drive, then I got by P2 on the straight at the start of L7 because he hit the grass coming out of the chicane and lost his drive. 1 to go and 6 seconds from the lead. I hate FF cars, and I'm not fast in this thing, but I've been smooth and consistant, and a 2nd place finish would be good, so I just tried to keep it up and not make any mistakes. The gap was shrinking steadily, then I got a good drive out of spoon and watched his lead shrink to under 3 seconds by the chicane. I saw he had a penalty flag, but couldn't read the number at first. As I came to the line I saw it go below 1 second, and he gassed it to beat me to the flag, but still had time on the clock. I got the win by .4 seconds with the 1 second penalty he got at the finish. My first win from the back. I'll dedicate this win to @Sven Jurgens , who showed me the way.:D:cheers:

So far, I'm not seeing much advantage with a manual transmission at Willow Springs.

The advantage comes when you are crap like me and rapidly dropping gears faster than AT gives you a fighting chance of staying on the tarmac :p. As many people have shown, if you are smooth you can be fast with AT. MT in the hands of an expert can shave off fractions. For mugs like me it means getting the car moving again after stuffing up faster than AT allows .

As I recall the oft missing @Alpha Cipher joined a team. <shrug> I'm a privateer arrr!

I'm slow with this combo, and not a big fan of front drivers, but I see no reason to pit. I just won from the back in a B/B room and my front tires only had about 1/8 red at the end. I was running 43's. Running 40's or 39's would beat up tires more I would guess.
Yeah my first race I was just going for it, no need to pit but laps get slower exponentially.

Also I am Turismo-pokey and the team thing is a lot more than just setting times. We help each other with tunes, do league races and hope to make it big I guess you can say.

Have had the PS4 shut down twice while in the lead of Race A.

The PS4 has to be the worst design of PlayStation ever made. Users shouldn't have to pull it apart every month to remove dust in the hope that it will stop the thing overheating and shutting off mid race. Nor should they have to put electrical tape over sensors to stop discs being ejected mid gameplay.

I made two attempts at the FIA Nations race last night and both went terribly (I won't dwell on that here). I was going to go to bed on a downer but thought I'd give race B a go in the hope it would cheer me up and remind myself that I CAN drive.

Making the switch from the N400 cars that have the stopping distance of a freight train and the turning ability of a cruise ship back to the 911 was tricky to say the least. Lap 1 I was barely under control. There was a Beetle behind me that wanted to overtake but looked too scared to try with me veering all over the track! I pretty much drifted around the first lap before the muscle memory kicked back in.

I started 8th and managed to finish 4th with a clean race star. Both 2nd and 3rd had small penalties and if I'd managed to get close enough I would have jumped both of them. I needed to be on their bumpers out of the last corner though and couldn't quite manage it. The Beetle that had been keeping pace with me seemed to get held up by a Merc so there was a few seconds gap to 5th.

I was just relieved to finish the night on a positive. The Nations event cost me the best part of 2000 DR so managed to scrape a little of it back!

So last night I decided to stay at NGP because it was (initially) all about driving clean and getting my SR back to B. I made a deliberate decision to turn TC off as I figured I would be less likely to get involved in argy bargy whilst tiptoeing around the track, plus it would be a good learning experiment for as I get better at the game! So after 4 laps of throttle dabbing and rather embarrassingly a spin before the race even started I trundled around in 12th.

Next race I added a little TC, still in a room full of SR C's (and some D's), but the pre-race lobby was full of people begging for calm  clearly a race of people with similar intentions to me, so I managed a clean race and finished 5th behind 4 really fast guys (who had high DR's but poor SR's) but I was consistently pulling away from the guys behind, which got my SR back up to B which was my intention for the night.

Then, next race was full of DR B's to D's, with all SR B's, and the quali times from top to bottom were within 4 seconds of each other. I was 4th on the grid with a 2.02, still conscious of my fragile SR rating I was incredibly cautious into T1 and lost 2 places from aggressive late brakers who then collided so I tiptoed behind them until they sorted themselves out. 1 of them went wide at turn 2, back to 5th, and the other took out 3rd place through the fast uphill section which put me in 3rd, I passed for second (cleanly) into the chicane, and the first place guy got a poor exit out of the final corner so I passed him into T1, he had a crap first sector behind me which gave me 2 seconds breathing room which allowed me to pick my lines and other than pure blind panic on the last lap trying to keep it facing forward, I pulled out my first win!!

Then the wife just could not figure out why I was strutting around with a huge grin for the rest of the night!!!

Nurburgring 3 : SlXBlADEKNLFE 1 :banghead:

Someone back up there /\ said that member race updates were useful for them. I was a stalking member not so long ago and have to agree. OK, very egocentric to think anyone else give a flying whatever about my races...but then again, no harm in trying to make it entertaining and let folks know they are not alone in their boxer shorts going round in circles.:D

Used the 16 Lexus Prototype.

Race 1: 3 rd on grid. 1 to 4 not caught in mayhem and were lapping nice and calm. I'd have been happy to stay that way but the guy in 4th punted me off on T7 and I dropped from 3rd to last. A bit angry after so apologies to the slower guys I was coming through after.

Race 2: 5th on grid. 1st time into the chicaine and I did exactly the same thing as the guy in race 1 did to me. Reminded me it's a game, we are not professionals and understand that not every punt is deliberate. I think because I had spent so much time qualifying and this was only my second race of the week I didn't allow the speed and stopping time in the draft. I totally missed my braking and ploughed some poor guy in a Porsche into next week. Sorry! Another crap finish.

Race 3: Same mistake as 2 but managed to miss the other drivers. Parked in the scrub at the chicane and never recovered.

Race 4: At last! Qualified 3rd. Was in 4th after a very aggressive undertake on me first time through the chicane. He earned a 2 sec penalty and I got none so for a change the system worked. I stayed right behind him for the race. Didn't even try a move because I could see he had the penalty and figured it would come into play at some point. He tried to scrub the it but didn't drive off line and with me on his bumper that was not going to work. On the line he still had 1.6 secs and I was on his tail so got my 3rd place back.

Funny aside...qualifying before race 4 I did 2 hot laps. My quali time is down to 2.00.172 so knocking on the door of my sub 2. First lap I got a penalty on T4 for cutting too close to the guard rail and figured I didn't have time for a reset and didn't bother working the time off. Second lap I did just under the 2 mins but was a "red lap". I totally forgot that I would not count for qualifying. Guess I'll have to go back and do it for real now.

On the plus, T1 on the first lap of every race was clean in the top 5 places. Also, because everyone is driving defensive they are all going tight right on nearly every lap and leaving space on the left for anyone who cares to actually stick to the correct racing line. It's leaving loads of time for an undercut.

I am done for the week, travel on business today and I dont play fri through sunday as wife needs attention.

Mediocre night last night, had an argie butcher one race, just so impatient.

I've had only 2 days off for the full month of January. My missus knows I'm on the edge of a "Falling Down" moment at this stage so let me finish dinner and then vanish into the Playseat for a couple of hours last night. Pure therapy...so long as the crap results don't get you down. I owe her some time when I get a day off. It would also be nice to see her in daylight for a change.

After getting close to A+ on the Nordschleife last week, I'm now back to B on Big Willow. It seems every good race IP have there is mirrored by two where I get bumped off. Driving from the back with these cars is not recommended, yet I keep doing it :) It's not only hard to pass, it's dangerous to SR as well when trying to pass stunt drivers that think it's faster to go sideways through the corner. It certainly works for blocking on this track, a sideways car that shoots back the other direction once it regains traction to wobble back and forth is pretty much impossible to pass.

The front straight is a good place to pass yet T1 is too easy to get a penalty. When the other car is still too close and forcing you off line you are at their mercy not to screw up and clip you before going off. The best outcome is SR Down when they manage to stay on the road after hitting your bumper. Passing along the outside through T2 works a bit better as people usually concede before getting to the sharp left not to take the jump there. Passing on the back straight works best when you are on the inside, easy when you get a better run out of the corner before the straight and can take the inside before they can veer back.

I only once got a sub 1:30 lap time so I still have plenty to improve as I'm usually in the 1:31 / 1:32 range. That's mostly because of swerving cars in front of me. This race needs at least 2 more laps to get anywhere from the back. My best is still 4th, no podium yet. My worst 12th, getting bumped off 3 times.

Man that's harsh.

Forgot to mention that I finally ran a 1.58.8 after 20 odd laps of 1.59.0 to .3. Annnnnd then it was my last race for the week.

Just finished Race B with the AMG GT3. Managed to shave off another second from my previous qualifying time a couple of nights ago. Qualified P4/13on an all D/S grid.

Race starts and everyone tries to be a hero at T1. I got knocked by someone trying it up the inside. Someone on the outside on the next corner turned in on me and went off track. They then came back to slam into me and knock me off track. I got a 2s penalty and an orange SR for that. Gatherd myself up, re-joined the track in P8 and get back to circulating. I got passed by someone getting inpatient. They eventualy went off track at the chicane. I managed to claw my way up to P4, but that 2s penalty was lingering, dropped to 1.5s. I took too much of a bite out of Kumho Kurve and picked up a 3s penalty. When I crossed the line I'd dropped to P6 :yuck:. I finished with a red SR.

The merc seems to get around the track ok. Didn't turn in quite the way I'd like but setting TC to 2 seemed to help get it out of the corners, and BB-3 appeared to let me slow down without locking up the rear end. My inputs tend to be less than subtle, so I sometimes forget that it's a brake pedal and not The Flintstones .

SR dropped to 91, DR went up about 130. Another day above DR 1 :scared:.
