The way I am learning to handle understeering cars is to turn in early. And not worry so much about any balance issues ... its not the way I like to drive though, I like to use the throttle to steer. With these FWD cars, I reckon the throttle would be useful to control wheel spin from the front with all that power PD award these ridiculous cars. PD appear not to be fans of throttle steer at Bathurst, I am guessing its due to the majority of players using hand controllers?

If I fix my problems with my setup, I will try to race the Lexus. If I get clobbered, then I guess I'll have to go to the garage thing and buy a Megane ...

Why can't we sell cars in GTS?
I have a different tendency with understeering cars - tune it out or don't drive it. I can never drive smooth in an understeer prone car.

Case in point - jumped in a race with the JoJo's Megane Trophy, starting from 10th with my TT lap. Passed by the mazda behind me on the straight but constant gains after that. Flat out through most of the mountain, it lets me stick the boot in.

i qualify about two seconds better with FWD when I can manage to wrestle the car around, but it's driving the RWD race cars that lets me do my thing - get alongside and outbrake, keep it on the track and reap the rewards from the penalty servers.

I finished 6th right on the bumper of a Megane I hunted down through the chase - one more corner I'd have had him for sure.

Even popped a little Sanpatsu Dorifto down the hill, getting sideways after a gentle touch through the third turn there (nothing malicious, just a brave Ferrari). Applied opposite lock and carved it sideways all the way through the hairpin clean, nicking two spots from battling cars up the inside on the exit.

Never try/accidentally pit maneuver a rally driver on downhill esses. Oversteer is like a comfy chair to me.

EDIT: new best lap - 2.16.230 in the Mustang, 2nd attempt. Took me 5 to do the TT lap. Think I might hammer more laps, feel I can get into the 15s easy if I don't slide t1 and better job at the hairpin. A competent RWD option - thank God.

Guys in my C lobbies are on pole with 2.15.xxx so no sense shooting for top 10 God lap.

How the **** are people driving this thing.

I don't even know, I used to hate it and now I love it. I'm not sure what changed, it could be physics or BoP. I haven't used it in a long time until recently. Maybe I'm better suited to driving understeering cars. *shrugs* Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I'm nowhere near the fastest (some of the lap times I see here are mind-boggling) but I managed a 2:13.4. My problem is that after driving it, I can't drive anything else because I'm comfortable and more consistent with it. Also feels weird for a hatchback to be this fast.

Man, watching my replay from yesterday...I get perfect exit onto mountain straight, megane able to pull alongside but I chose the inside line. Literally nose to nose, me covering inside, nose to nose! I’m holding inside, megane turns into me then runs wide and hits wall, boom pen for me.
Another surrounded by four megane in my baby blue AMG in the chase braking zone, one runs off trying to dart underneath in braking, now rendering scrapes me I get five seconds. That was yesterday.

I’m sorry, but if you choose a stock yellow megane and get near me you’re getting offed. Eff that thing. I drove it last time for like half a lap. It feels horrid on wheel.

Everyone needs to team up and off anyone in a yellow megane! Whose with me?

i hope you mean 2.13 or we all have some work to do :p

i think it comes down to driving style. It'd be unfair for me to say "The Megane is slow!" Just as it would for someone who doesn't get along with RwD to say "The Mustang is uncontrollable!". Really what we mean is "I struggle to get the best out of the Megane" and "I have a hard time keeping the Stang planted."

Every game I've played, and even my limited real world driving, I've found FWD to be skechy and unsettling, and I recognise this is outside the norm these days with so many "hot" FWD cars on the roads. To me, driving FWD fast has a strange sensation, like I'm clinging on to the rear window as the car pulls me around. The space behind me feels.. empty, and it unsettles me to know the rear wheels are swinging around back there.

The reverse makes sense to me - with all the power in the rear I can really "feel" what the car is up to back there, and feel like I'm driving the whole car. The feeling and sound let me know what the rear is up to while my eyes, obviously, deal with the front of the car.

Essentially, it feels more comfy for me to be "pushed" than "pulled".

It's 100% a crutch. By picking it you're basically saying: - OK i'm bad but I want to win, bypassing the need to improve.

This time around I'm having a Megane-on-throttle-understeer issue. Completely self-inflicted. I'm tending to be quite conservative on the brakes around the mountain, which means I've often slowed too much coming into corners, get on the gas a little bit/too early to actually carry me to the apex and then before you know it I've left the island on the exit somewhere. If I was braver, I would be significantly quicker - but I don't necessarily have the time to significantly push the limits on every corner as it's yet another lap I'd have to redo. Aaaaaahhhhh! The tension!

Maybe this evening I'll watch @Pigems and @Mistah_MCA 's lap vids and take notes!

So my current crutch is the Vantage with a bit of get-out-of-jail welly. Apparently the Astons are the only cars (Gr.3/4) that I can actually slide around and still point in the right direction.

Feels horrid on pad too, mate.

Don't go out punting them though, I can't endorse that.

If you can't beat em, yes you can, beat em, what are you, scared?

I just realized...How could I have been so stupid...
When a megane is holding you up up top, just tap them and scrape the wall! Boom go by on the straight.
How come I didn’t think of this before?

Ok, new plan, all yellow megane now get as many pen as possible as well as getting offed!

Now, if you like your megane and at least paint it you are spared.

I’ve beaten a bunch already, but if I get penalties for a fair defense holding an inside defense I’m screwed.

THEY WILL GET THE PENS NOW MUHAHAHAHA

Ahahahha, well I ain't in your region and not using the Megane so go crazy I guess :P

Rambo hours for you... Never hunt a man... They drew first blood!

I know how the unfair pens sting. Been getting pens for being pushed wide and rammed off apexes by guys with 4 wheels on the kerb. You'll see me complaining about it a couple pages back.

i just try never to sink to the dirty players' level. Is only game. Why you have to be mad?

I’m not mad man, may or may not even play tonight in reality. Gotta go to work soon.

In my region for example yesterday for some reason the s Americans were teaming up it seems against us Americans. They are fast, but they take tons of risk and often drive dirty.
The American in the vet I saw who mid twelve qual got punted of course, By Uruguay in stock yellow megane. Not one of those people painted the car, and they get really really pissed when they try to outbrake and you crossover and stay ahead. They are of the ‘I’m driving megane get out of my way’ I’ll so turnabout is FairPlay in my view.

Luckily I don’t run alt account so concern for my rep will always keep from going too far...

Cheers

Down to a 2.17.169 in the TT... i will now go into full F2 Kit Car Maximum Attack with the Megane.

Thanks for the tips @AUTISTICBOYX

Capable of doing a 2.11, you say? That may well be true, but am I capable of it?

Real Weight Transfer Scandi Flick hours... Will report how I do.

I don't see why not. It's a matter of knowing the racing techniques and the rest is practice.

yeah man, nothing can ruin your race quite like feeling someone's put a target on your back. For me it's usually getting punted because I brake slightly earlier than someone thinks I should, usually to take late apex on a hairpin or to not smash into the guy in front. I 'll usually trail brake when doing this and I think guys think I'm tryna brake check them.

frustrates me - if you're not even slightly alongside before the braking zone, I don't feel obligated to consider your feelings or move over for you.

I don't see why not. It's a matter of knowing the racing techniques and the rest is practice.
i appreciate your faith in me, but im a long time and a lot of practice off cracking the top laps.

Not trying to be defeatist, but I gotta respect there are guys who have put an insane amount of time and work into getting those laps. I've only been doing Sport mode a little while and circuit driving in general (taking it semi serious) for under a year. Long way to go.

I cleared the Jaguar F-Type and Peugeot RCZ this morning. It's much cleaner in the morning with better results. However the top is out of reach, dominated by A+ drivers in Meganes. Last race had 4 of them at the top and one A+ driver that tried to keep up in the Huracan. I've never seen that many A+ drivers up this early. Megane love.

The Jaguar is very nice to drive over the mountain, keeps a nice pace, currently sitting in 3rd on my list behind the Cayman. Finished 5th behind the Meganes. The Peugeot RCZ is crap going up the mountain, but it has that FF love treatment from PD and shot right to the top of my list with best lap of 2:14.460 on my first attempt. It doesn't go want to go around the corner nicely, but you can brake later and the acceleration down the chase had me passing 3 cars there that were drafting each other lol. So unbalanced. Finished 7th behind the Meganes and the one Huracan.

Another milstone completed, all my GR.4 cars have liveries now. 12 raced so far, 15 to go. I have not touched race C yet, love that mountain too much.

Up until yesterday I was getting nothing but clean races on Bathurst. Then at the start of one race I get dived bombed on Hell Corner by a Lambo from two cars back and knocked into the outside wall for a 5 second penalty, dropping from 9th to last place. Admittedly the guy who rammed me stayed back and later apologized but I didn't notice and assumed he had driven off.

So then I'm in the back with the 15th place Lambo who's aggressively racing me back and forth. The whole time I'm wondering how the last place guy is so fast and difficult to keep pace with not realizing it was the guy who dive bombed me. I kind of wish the dive bomber would have just driven off because now I have to deal with his weird braking and defensive tactics. So I'm getting a 9th place battle for second to last place.

I wish Race B had 1 more lap on it. Three laps is just too short and any mistake can cost you the entire race.

Under the new physics I'm using a different manufacture just so I won't be frustrated with my expectations for the Porsche. So far I'm sticking with Toyota and I'm liking all versions of the 86 a lot. It handles somewhere between an Impreza and a Miata and with a predictable understeer that grips where I expect it to. I tried racing the Cayman but I just kept battling with sharp surprise turn ins (where the wheels had more traction than I expected) and jabby exit understeering that just isn't fun.

Welcome back old friend. So strong. Kept ebbing and flowing with a Huracan. I had to get off the throttle as it was slow everywhere but corner exit at The Elbow. I was catching it at The Cutting like clockwork. Seemed like it huffs and puffs up Mountain Straight. RC F is in its stride uphill..up the top... downhill.. "the whole everywhere!". Got disco'd on the grid in the MUstang. Will try again for the 10 past midnight(crazy movie back in the day) race.

2.15.741 in the Mustang, mission accomplished!

I'd dive in and race now but waiting for a friend to turn up - don't wanna hear that doorbell while racing, made that mistake before. Pretty skechy hairpin again... Can probably go quicker...

Sectors, for anyone who might be able to identify where I'm losing 4 odd seconds from top times...

21.138
47.551
35.396
31.656

All green because I restart if sector 1/turn 1 is slow, or if i hit anything. Hate chasing the ghost and passing him, knowing i didn't go faster in the first sector. Also miss braking points when the ghost is in front of me.

Need a mustang livery now...

I with that these A+ drivers would put their skills to actual use and drive something other than the "easy" car.
I reckon most of the A+ drivers get that way by chasing the points ... and hence they're using the Renault. PDs fault really. At the top Alien level, in GR.3 the Audi is faster than everything else. But at least PD slowed it down a bit update before last. Shame though because I love driving it. PD slowed the other Megane "Trophy" GR.4 car too - the mid engined one. Lovely to drive. Why didn't they slow that down - the front drive road car - while cobbling a glorious little race machine? Why take away our pleasure in driving nice cars?

Cant blame A+ drivers for that, and you’ll understand when you get here. Because of matchmaking, Daily races are all risk and little reward. Imagine winning 10 races in a row, and being one unruly punt away from losing double the points that you spent all day earning.

It’s crazy and it’s a situation that forces you to not play the game the way you want to. Dare I say that Sport Mode isn’t even fun anymore at this level. But suggesting that A+ drivers should do anything other than being as fast as possible? Just won’t happen

Did a 2:13.970(2:13.755 in the Alfa Megane) on my first lap. Was .4 up at the first sector, but ran out of time before the race started.

Close battles all race with Mustang. Megane and RC Z hawking for prey. Two RCZs and two TTs finished ahead of me.

Edit: a bit of luck and clever driving . M4 ain't speedy, but good brakes and nice handling.

Bathurst is insane, I tried 5 cars and couldn't get in the 14's, i reluctantly try the Megane and BOOM 14.2. Worse stil, in race, you can't pass the dang thing so you really have to be in it to be competitive, NFI why they don't nerf this thing. The new grip model helps it too as you can get it to turn in now whereas before it was a bit sloppy..... I dunno.... i cannot get anywhere near a 14 flat with other cars.

Mustang is rubbish, brakes kill it for me, it just DOES NOT pull up. In every other car i have tried i brake at the end of the asphalt patch (to the left) on the way into T2, with the Mustang it's at the beginning of the patch, it's that bad.

Try the merc for a RWD option, much better IMHO.

Been in a few lobbies where the Mustang was quickest.

I don't understand why there are differences between the 86 and the BRZ. First of all, the top 10 times are all 86s. The other thing is that the engine sound is different. In the Toyota, the engine changes tones to let me know that I need to upshift, but the Subaru doesn't. Different mufflers, maybe? Handling and lap times are the same for me. As I understand it, Subaru engineered the car, and provides all the engines, and Toyota assembles it. I thought they were all the same.

I was selling Subarus when they came out, and got invited to drive the BRZ on a racetrack in New Orleans. Pretty fun. 👍 The only differences I knew of between it and the Scion FRS, was that that Scion had a softer front suspension and didn't offer leather. I thought the Toyota 86 and Scion FRS were the same car. Am I wrong?

No idead @sturk0167 you know more than me, i just thought the badges were different... lol got my time down to 2.01.821 imidiatly after switching to manual, go figuer. I am using the 86 because for some reason the hood cam is higher or something on the brz...

The Megane is not the fastest car around the track though, is it (not even close). Not a single Megane in the qualifying tables across the regions afaik. I'm totally okay with META picks but this is more of a cheesy exploit than anything. And then it becomes a snowball effect where people begin to employ the same strategy in order to parry these shenanigans.
