V12 Vantage GT3 race: This British tank requires more work to steer than the R8, and presumably a bit more than the Jag as well. This car requires short shifting on FM3 while using FM2/FM1 down the straights.

It's strange how different the experience can be. I never changed the fuel map from 1 and had no problems doing a no stop with short shifting. I also didn't find it all that hard to turn. With many cars after the last couple of updates I've been running BB at 0. Since most of the tricky corners are downhill, I have it set to -3 on most cars for N24 and that seems to help (yeh, I know most use rear bias to turn, but for me front bias works). I've been digging both Gr4 and Gr3 Vantages lately.

Well, I just saw my top time in the region for Race A get beat live as I lay half awake waiting for the FIA coverage to start at 6:30 am. At least I could help some other folks improve before I lost first place. Here is the new top run stream if y'all need something to watch for the next few minutes until the FIA pre race coverage starts.

R8 LMS race: Held on to the lead with that 8:12 time that put me on pole, but the 167 MPH top speed on Döttinger Hohe straight puts me in some big trouble when an RSR slipped past me, and it went downhill from there. Total race time is at around the 16:55 range.

At the start, I got threatened by an Atenza. At the finish, by an AMG GT, but I guess players are killing themselves with the fuel saving. The F1 is fast, however, I see the newer cars have better downforce. Out of corners, I feel like I'm on the power earlier.

The car that really scares me is the R8. Could have been the player that used it, but that thing was pressing me and seemed quite fast in a straight line and up hill. Props to people that can steer it. I know my limits and it's never been on my list to use.

Yes, a dozen times already. He did the same on Brand's hatch, I probably still have him on a penalty video somewhere. Just now he was there again starting in second. He hit my rear right in T4 spinning me out. My car rolled into his so I got 3 sec penalty.

Not sure what to do. I had the fastest lap that race so he would just be holding me up if I let him go first. Yet every time he's in a race with me he crashes me. Of course he gets the victory with a blue S, I get red S, managed to get back to 3rd after that 3 sec penalty turned into 5 or 6 at the penalty zone and I got rammed off at the end again. Bunch of red B's at the end of that race.

Had 2 races at Suzuka that couldn't have been more different if they tried. Both had me starting P9 (possibly the worst place to start FYI - Auto Drive lets you go on the apex of the Left Hander at Casio, but on the outside... uh, thanks...) Anyway. First race was a dream. Very little incident for me. I drove smoothly and consistently taking positions as they were given out left right and center by those ahead. Even after I got taken myself at the hairpin on Lap 4 by a slightly unscrupulous move, I kept calm and trusted that Mr Erratic in the 'Vette would do something silly. He binned it at 130R. I finished P4. Ta very much.

Race 2, tried the same tactic, calm and collected, drive my own race - the Trophy Driver in P8 was very very slow through the Esses but there's very little room to make a clean pass through there, so I thought I'd just stay behind and wait. Problem was that the guys behind in P10 and 11 weren't happy with that and decided to try and make a pass anyway they could, which was nice of them. P10 got 2secs for sending me to the beach, but it didn't really help me. Not only did I lose out I then spent the next 3.5 laps trying too hard to recover and outbraked myself at Spoon and then T1 after that, before forgetting how to defend the inside line and giving up P12 with the biggest open door ever at Casio on Lap 4. I basically invited him into my home and said "here, eat all my food and drink all my beer".

In basic terms I do a Vettel. If I'm on the up, great. If I'm under the cosh, I bottle it like the best.

Why are these kind of drivers allowed back into SR.S

He's a special kind of [inset derogatory name here]. Past history doesn't factor into your SR score, so it's easy to get back to SR S.

He got all door bangy with me this morning, so I put an aggressive move on him and drove off. He tried to torpedo me, but it didn't end well for him.

On to the 4C. I know you like to drive close behind @Voodoovaj, but that was a little too close, SR Down. No need to drive bumper to bumper, any bit of lag means SR Down. It was my first time using the 4C but I don't think I was going slow.

It's all relative. You were going slower and braking sooner than I normally do, so being completely devoid of contact is tough. If I don't follow close, I can't set up the pass. I know you're chasing CRB's, but I'm chasing finishing position.

That's my beef with the entire CRB. It puts the responsibility for a clean race on someone else's shoulders; someone who is likely not chasing the same goals. It's nice to get for the extra credits, but it's a useless metric beyond that (just IMHO)

But, on the topic of "clean" and such, as you saw last night when we were both SR A, there are times when (again IMHO) the best course of action is to exert yourself on others. I find that when I show my willingness to be aggressive or simply take someone out, it sends a clear message that my behaviour will persist if given a reason.

No TRULY fast driver wants this to be the case. contact slows everyone down, but, there are too many varying types of people out there. Some are hot headed teens, some are hot headed eternal adolescents, some think they are the next incarnation of Senna (and have seen the movie too many times). Aggression does breed success, no question. More aggression often breeds more success, but OVER aggression becomes counter productive at a certain point. What I find is that some people need to slam head on into the realization that it's counter productive. That said, some people never learn. They block, or they bump, or they are just plain incapable of seeing the bigger picture. For them, the race is a corner to corner collection of challenges.

As a side note, I have folks on my friends list who used to drive, I'll say, "foolishly" until an altercation ensued. Sometimes, for a few races, until they realized that they only way this was going to end was with a truce and a change of driving behaviour.

BTW, the '16 RCF is a MONSTER around here. I can confirm!!! I set my BB to +1. It turns in toward the apex nicely and you can run very fast laps in it with great fuel economy.

Second race in the 4C, managed to avoid a double dive bomb in T1, wtf... I'm starting too low now, 9th, too many people with nothing to lose right behind. It was going well until Flugplatz where a Brazilian tried to pass last second on the inside... He pushed me out to the kerb, my car veered back and he went off on the inside, penalty for me.

Perhaps it's time to lower SR again to get clean races.

Another quit, can't get through T1 from 9th when the car behind is intent of bumping you out of the way. Beat sabre time.

I think Nurb gp is a great track and love racing it. 24 is fun to drive but race? I dunno.
I got pretty disillusioned after getting the crap punted out of me last week when I tried Alsace.

Sport mode? 15 positions gained clean race etc. Lobby? Intentionally dive bomb punted twice in one race...LOL by a person who claims to be clean...

Do you have youtube on the TV? If so, you should be able to find the stream on the phone or PC and then connect to the TV through the cast button.



@Sven Jurgens I watched your vid a little more. I know it's been said a million times, but turn off your TC. Everytime it lights up, you're losing time. It's not that hard to drive with out it. Also, in the Alfa, you can use 3rd gear in a few of the slower corners instead of 2nd and it has some great low end grunt that makes it more efficient and faster.

I am terrible with the names of the corners here, but you know that first jump that leads to the double apex right? HUGE time lost there if you lift too much at the first right. You have to really hit that apex as fast as possible and then floor it all the way to the next braking zone.

Then, the back section from the carousel to the main straight. The corners seem slow, but they aren't. You need to carry a lot of speed through there by getting the line right. The apexes are all cambered, so if you miss them, you lose a lot of time. It's tough to get it right.

I'm currently at 8:14.3

God i suck at gr. 4 !!! Best lap I could get out of the RC f was a 2:11.247 which I know is nowhere near what it should be. I tried a bunch of other cars but, for me, gr. 4 is understeer paradise Attack turn too fast ... understeer ..... Get in slower ... Loose time .... Accelerate ....understeer ....

Tried different brake bias ...-1 ....-4 ....+2.....+4....... Nope ......still understeer.

Guess I'll just settle with the fact that I suck with gr. 4

The Lexus has been my favorite for a long time, great car. I'll be driving that once I complete my personal challenge. 7 cars left, Volkswagen GTI (did a run in it but went wide once, it sucks sucks sucks on fuel) Ford GT and the alternate BMWs SLS AMG and other Lexus.

The hard thing about the CRB is that you get penalized for tiny bumps from behind, unless you go off. I rather stay on the road, yet in the Peugeot VGT I got bumped in the hairpin (NGP section) onto the kerb and instead of spinning out I went wide to keep the car under control. Then of course I get blamed for intentionally triggering a penalty.... The penalty system is the real enemy here as again nothing of consequence happened, I kept the car under control, no time lost, no time gained. Peugeot VGT is fast on the straights btw with massive understeer and slow in corners, invites bumps from behind.

I stick to the side where it's safe to pass and lift to let faster cars through. My other races this morning all had patient drivers so 2 more cleared after that unfortunate meeting with you know who. Too bad I don't have time to race more in the morning as it's so much nicer than in the evening. No victories but great competitive racing.

Anyway I don't do it for the credits, those have been maxed out long ago. But the only recognition for staying on track all race in all cars is that CRB star. Keeping all cars under control in a live race is a bigger goal for me than anything else. DR is a useless metric to me Not interested in FIA stuff.

I tried, my right index finger does not comply, too screwed up from years of using the mouse 12 hours a day. I become a danger on the road without TCS.

Personally, I think the SR system would do well to be more like the DR system. You're right, SR B essentially means that a person has no clue on how to control a car. SR B and SR D is all essentially the same thing. SR A means you've been bad, and if you can't get out of it, you're terrible.

It is deceptively fast through there, I find sometimes I hit the lines just right and you can feel it immediately because you just fly through those corners. When you miss the line you blow every corner since they all lead into each other. It doesn't seem possible to carry that much speed there until you actually do it.

That's the worst part of the track for me. The rest I'm 'okay' at and feel like I know what I'm doing. That part though I lose time by the spade. I went into that section once just behind a Beetle with a 5s penalty. Thought I'd just need to stay within touching distance and pass on the straight.

I know *exactly* what you mean . Once you go off the track, either by accident or design, it a) ruins your rhythm (and tracks like Suzuka and N24 defiantly have a rhythm) and b) messes your tyres so the chances of you going off again. The loss of traction is increased till you manage to keep it on the track long enough to scrub them clean.

And with that.. another crappy Green Hell report.....
626. Too frustrated with mistakes for a second qualy lap. First less than M6 time. P7/20. First lap knocked into sand. Spun trying to get back. P17. Short shift. 2nd lap 1/2 tank left at Hocheichen. 1s penalty. Lost 2 positions at final penalty zone. Finished P9. Mazda frugal and easy on tyres. SR down 4, DR up 300. Hanging on to SR/S, DR/C... just.

Sure tcs off is the way to go for lap time, but for example for myself it’s got nothing to do with that.
Getting hit with tcs off can end badly.
Take a track like seaside in say gr3.
Uphill esses should be taken flat.
In most gr3 I’ve used tcs ruins your time there.
However in race people get aggressive and in solid rooms they will nudge punt stick nose in shove etc.
It’s been my experience that not using tcs makes you a bit of a sitting duck.
Very easy for cheats to upset your car and get tires overheated or worse spun or offed and race ruined.
Plus on many cars you can get really really close to the same lap times with tcs on.
That’s on wheel but you guys game on the sticks so maybe it’s different...
I find on wheel in race the only time I turn it off is if I am in space.
Even with it on it can’t prevent blatant cheating though, but it’s always fun to get nudged and the cheater realizes you are an adept wheel user who is not vulnerable to the dirty tactics used by many gamers.

Guilty.

But that's just how I use the DS4. I still have very little ability when it comes to fine motor control on the triggers and sticks. But the reality is that I'm also constantly evolving my driving style to the extent that I know exactly what I can achieve with an On/Off method.

But there of course will be a ceiling with this. I'm close to going as fast as I ever will be able to with this style.

A wheel and pedal set up would be different. But I can't justify the expediture for a rig.

I sometimes use TCS1 depending on the situation. Hell I even used TCS2 in the last LeMans Manufactures race. Even used it on the P1 GTR I bought last night because it's undriveable until I get used to it. *shrugs*

Then you should know that TCS slows you down.

Plenty of people have "beaten" me. Join the club. Doesn't make TCS any faster. Assuming ignorance is easy when the statements appear ignorant (no offense).

This game is no different than any other activity that requires a lot to master. For example, I also kickbox. I've only been doing it for about a year and a bit. When I started, I was in good shape, but not in good enough shape (also, I'm old). I had to get into better shape. I also had to become more comfortable with pain, because leg kicks are like getting hit with a bat. I was working toward being able to spar. I gained the level required for sparring, then I got punched in the face so many times! So, so , so many, humiliating and embarrassing times! I broke my septum.

The point of this is the saying "no pain, no gain" is true in all things that require skill. If you take an easy way out, you're just cheating yourself. Tell yourself whatever you like to make yourself feel better, but you're still cheating yourself.

You should know this.

I hear a lot of moaning about "dirty" this and "dirty" that. I am going to stand firm that there are only a handful of people who are actually dirty (one mentioned earlier in this thread). The rest simply aren't very good.

I didn't do many races in gr. 1 and I'm practicing for next week at La Sarthe. Any idea on which car I should concentrate on ? I know it's also a matter of taste and driving style but ... I don't wanna buy 5-6 of them just to find out they're not really good and....I guess there are 2 or 3 that will be faster around there. So ....what's your guess ?

It's a really tough car/track combo for finding the perfect car. There are Gr.1 cars with great top speed, ones with great acceleration, and ones with great handling. There aren't any Gr.1 cars that are great in all three of those categories. Not sure about fuel economy differences.

All I use is the Mazda LM55. It feels well balanced to me, and the AWD gets me incredible grip on corner exit. It's won me a bunch of Lemans races. I did a lobby race yesterday against a Porsche 919 Hybrid. It had fantastic acceleration, but once speeds got up around 160-170 mph, I pulled away and took back everything that he gained.

The Peugeot 908, Audi R18, Nissan R92CP, and Toyota TS050 Hybrid are usually the most popular.

Plenty of people have "beaten" me. Join the club. Doesn't make TCS any faster. Assuming ignorance is easy when the statements appear ignorant (no offense).

This game is no different than any other activity that requires a lot to master. For example, I also kickbox. I've only been doing it for about a year and a bit. When I started, I was in good shape, but not in good enough shape (also, I'm old). I had to get into better shape. I also had to become more comfortable with pain, because leg kicks are like getting hit with a bat. I was working toward being able to spar. I gained the level required for sparring, then I got punched in the face so many times! So, so , so many, humiliating and embarrassing times! I broke my septum.

Just keep in mind that most people in the Daily races don't expect to win or get the fastest lap. And probably quite a few don't even care. I suppose most people will be happy if they can just get a good clean battle with a similarly skilled driver.

You've got a ton of Sport racing experience, and you make some good points about TCS, but your goals are yours, alone. I think most people really just wanna enjoy themselves, regardless of the results. Some are looking for both. Some people are so serious about it that they have no fun.

I could get better/faster. There are a few things I could change, if I wanted to put in the time and effort that it takes. It isn't really important to me, though. I'm more in the "looking for a good time" category. That's why I do tons of races without qualifying.

@Groundfish isn't seeking world domination. He's a really good driver, but above all else, he appreciates having a good clean, competitive race.

I'm just saying let everyone be at whatever level they want to be at, and you do the same.

Ya, I know. It can be frustrating. Of course. But, that frustration, is part of why it's good. It is the Yin and Yang. The only way back to the good side is to battle through the bad. Find a way. On the other side of the agony of defeat is the thrill of victory!
