True, the major big groups were a bit over the top. I really felt that the Alpha and Beta groupings were a pretty good solution. It's a shame team leaders can't set up a link with another teamleader who is in another TS channel.

They can just set up a whisper with the team leader, it should work even if they arn't in the same area on TS3.

Yes this is fully possible and we should be utilizing it as standard OP. Setup a whisper (in your whisper lists) after designating the group leaders... you just assign a hotkey for the whisper, choose the person(s) for the whisper and then use this hotkey for the "command" channel. All groups (i.e. 3 active squads) can be connected via the group leaders this way.

Hello there, I'm new to DayZ (introduced to the game by treecancer)
getting the hang of it, and compensating for its alpha/beta-ness with many a stick of morphine. Just wanted to say hello and that if you see a maniac waving his arms around, running in circles, and yelling BEWARE THE BATTLE CATTLE.... It's probably me and I'm not a trigger happy crazy man so don't KOS me.

Just gotta beware dat battle cattle ya'know?
 
guess I'll post my first DayZ experience too.

First spawn ever, right outside of cherno. I cautiously enter a building to pick up some empty tin cans. Not food, but I guess I could try sneaking with them. Throwing some of the cans, I attempt to distract a zombie but fail miserably. A zombie around the corner spots me so I start running for my life as fast as my new found fat-@$$-airsoft-player-legs can carry me. I get cornered at the docks, but make a killing-floor esque escape and run along the docks back into town.
I see another survivor, armed with an AK running in my direction. Being unarmed with no equipment I had nothing to lose so I did the only rational thing I could think of. I use direct chat and say, "HELP ME I'M BEING CHASED BY LUNATICS SAVE ME SAVE ME I'M UNARMED AND HELPLESS DON'T RAPE ME." To my surprise he shoots the zombies off me and doesn't immediately shoot me.
Now I'm a rather lighthearted guy so derping about as I do, I tossed a tin can at his chest as a psuedo sign of thanks. He is shocked by my response and pauses for a second. Then shoots me and "YOU ARE DEAD".

You're lucky. Had it been me or Bats, I don't think you would've had time to even speak. Wouldn't have killed you, but definitely would have leg shot you to draw the coming horde you pulled.

But, now I guess you're one of us. So I guess you can live.
 
So it looks like 1.7.2.4 is in closed testing so most likely if that goes well it could be out as early as tonight.

* [FIXED] Players switched to non-player skins (by hackers) sync to database (updates no longer saved for objects non-authorized skins)
* [NEW] Players spawning in debug area or "water world" will spawn on beach on next login (with their gear)
* [NEW] Client will automatically spawn player out of debug and waterworld to last known position
* [NEW] Radar removed from helicopter (UH1H will be added back to vehicle spawns)
 
Ok guy so new update is now available for the server but we need some people to come on and help us out before the update is applied. So yeah, get yo butts on!

We stocked up on some parts today for the upcoming "feature" that should be turned on in the 30 hours. Exact time is unknown but we are ready :)

We are growing pretty big but we are just starting to figure out how to handle lots of people online without loads of confusion and a clogged TS channel.

Suggestion as discussed above when the TS channel starts getting too busy: Everyone can learn how to use the whisper function of Teamspeak to setup a hotkey for comms between different squad leads, breaking things up into no more than 5-6 people in each (preferably 4 each). Simultaneous ops are fine (i.e. 2 fire teams raiding the airfield from different sides) just make sure the leads are keeping in good comms for this.. otherwise establish different areas of operations. Anyone can lead a group, just think up a mission and find some volunteers, setup whisper between you and the other leads and go for it. We tried this today and it worked out pretty good IMO. What do you guys think?
 
Yes maybe when we are 15+ people (if that happens) get a commander that menages the ops and the leaders.

The 2 new guys were good to play with the hour I was in, I think TVR (pebb) is now leading them (considered they are still new).

Good game, though no PvP, but at least my caracter survived today :lol:

Hello Treecancer here, first mission with the group was really great looking foward to more. Sucks about the ghosting guy, what a hack. But what kind of countermeasure is there to a cheat tactic like that? Also im glad that the good gear was saved. I have some ideas for anti ghosting tactics when we do training.

PS. high anti aliasing and HDR seems to help with the graphical artifacts. Artifacts seem to be coming from military objects. (broken humvee, tents, wire ect...)
 
I think 4 man groups would be best when teaming up
And a clear chain of command: Platoon leader > squad leader(s) > ground pounders ?

for ghosting maybe containment would be better, when we were at NE airfield we kinda grouped up and dug in, but he could just run away+come back as he pleased.
Guerilla > camping...
So spread and contain single guys like that OR just run? just an idea.

should have separate thread for procedure and tactics maybe
 
I agree on the 4 man fireteams. also the graphical artifacts are making play impossible so im gona sit this out untill that gets hotfixed sorry. :(

That's not going to happen any time soon. It's an Arma2 engine bug, not DayZ related. Try experimenting with your graphical settings.

Something is worse in this build, either Arma2 patch or the dayz update. Can't see anything in some spots (balota), is about 10x worse than before.
 
So today/tonight/this morning was a good night, apart from the ghoster up at the north east airfield but other than that it was a really fun time, and the practice sesions were really good aswell so thanks for setting them up Walker.

I have also got about a hours worth of recording so I will look through that probably on Sunday and will see if I can make an amusing wee video out of it.

I have a question for you guys. I tried to get in a game with a friend and we couldn't find each other. We were in the same server and both standing underneath the same crane at the same time but couldn't see each other. How do you guys meat up and play together? Does it have to be on a certain difficulty setting or something? Are there non PVP servers where you can't see other players or something?
