Doing 160mph in 55mph zone.

I was contemplating posting this myself a few days ago, but decided against it on taste grounds - the occupant (obviously) did not survive this accident.

I'm told he dipped a rear wheel onto the grass (at a recorded 257km/h - the Enzo has a black box which records this sort of thing), then, while trying to correct, left the road in an upward direction. With no downforce it literally flew, side-on, into the concrete post you can see in the last image (behind and to the left of the Megane Scenic, bent) and shattered, as highly-stressed CF is prone to doing. This neatly explains the grass/earth debris, the bent pole, the severe damage and the lack of skidmarks.

Damn thats mad. I take it the person rented the car and didnt actually own it.
Id say even with a F1 cockpit he wouldnt have made it due to debris. At this high a speed I doubt unless your in a stretch limo in which your sitted right and the front hits the pole youd be dead.

Hitting a concrete pole while airborne at 160mph?

Remember that Skyline in Australia (the one borrowed by the owner's son, who proceded to kill everyone in it, including a pregnant 15 year old girl)? That was only at 120mph.

I absolutely HATE it when rich people wreck exotics. they take them for granted. just because they have money. These cars are moving works of art. yes, i believe ALL cars should be driven, after all, thats what they're for. but not abused by ignorant people, who do 3 times the speed limit. there is a place for that kind of stuff, its called a track. not a 2 lane country road. Such a shame. I feel bad for the car, and the pole.

Edit: Those alfas are damn sexay though

Nascar drivers survive collisions in the 160-180 mph range.

Of course they have helmets and Hans devices, but at that speed having a very stiff structure and being well strapped into it is more beneficial than having crumple zones.

And the Skyline is a unibody, which doesn't offer as much protection as a proper tube frame.

Ive got a taste for seeing what some of these exotics look like cxrashed. If any of you guys have or know of any pics link them up to this thread.

Sure, and F1 drivers survive collisions in the 180mph+ range. But F1 and NASCAR drivers don't have air-conditioning...

Ram a road car - even such a focussed one as the Enzo, or SLR, or Carrera GT, or Veyron - into an anchored concrete pole at 160mph and you've got driver kebabs.

Man thats a real disturbing set of pics, hits home hard. :nervous:

What the hell was he thinking of though doing 160 in a 55mph zone. I know it sounds harsh but perhaps it was for the best that he is off the road now.

Yeah. Please bear in mind that this qualifies as snuff. You're looking at people's deaths for entertainment.

She crashed her husbands beloved car. And because she wasnt hurt its amusing to the sterotype that woman cant drive.

It might just be me then where I don't find other people's missfortune too amusing.

Nascar or F1 drivers arent running into stationary concrete pillars at those speeds though.

NASCAR drivers dont have to deal with solid concrete or steal poles that split cars in two like the Enzo and Skyline. Just look at the damage Rally cars get when the slide sideways in to trees even with their full roll and side bars a navigator got killed recently.

Very true, points well taken.

But I still think a tube frame car would have fared better. Yes, the driver still would have likely died. But I don't think the car would be in two peices. And if we looked at a slightly less violent collision, I think the tube frame car would be safer than a C/F tub like the Enzo.

How can it "fly" aren't the aerodynamics supposed to do the opposite of lifting?

Downforce depends on the "bernoulli" effect (low pressure zone) in the small gap between the bottom of the car and the pavement.

If this gap grows too big, say goodbye to dowforce!

Presumably the edge of the road acted like a ramp lifting one tire off the ground.

Look at the angle that the grass drops off compared to the level of the road, get one wheel on there and the opposite front wheel will lift up.

(Yeah, what skip said)

Yes. The basic structure of a tube frame, regardless of what it is made out of, would have prevented the car from seperating. It would, however, have wrapped itself around the pole completly and the driver still would have died. I doubt it would have looked as gruesome as this did though.

Not to piss anyone off...wait. Yes. Specifically to piss off Young_Warrior and LSQuicksilver. Who in hell gives a damn?! This is a thread about a guy in an Enzo who died in an accident. It sickens me that your using this as a medium to get humor out of that stupid ass website.

LSQuicksilver

Not an M3, sorry.

This thread brings up the fatal accident of Benjamin Miles Keaton's fatal accident this Spring in his Cerrera GT at California Speedway. He collided into a concrete retaining wall at 150 mph. He was a member on another forum that I visit. It's incredible when one day you read someone's posts and then the next he's gone.

This is what his car looked like after the impact.
