*chuckle* an Oz freind of mine says fosters sucks. but then again, ANY "american style" beer sucks. I'll stick with Guinness. aquired taste my butt...
I'll tell you one thing, even the little Amish stores around here are getting English leftovers. I can by boxes of biscuit for a quarter (they're usualy stale)

You must get at least a few of our foods. One of my relatives (who moved to the US a few years ago) posted this on FB the other day:

It's the 'English Aisle' in her local Target. I don't see any Weetabix, but weirdly there seems to be a demand for Yorkshire Tea...

Do I see HP sauce?! 👎 No no no! Get rid of that immediately!

That shelf has everything you need to survive. Highlights for me include;

Heinz Treacle Sponge Pudding
Hayward's Pickled Onions
Galaxy Ripple (Oh my effing god these are orgasmic)
Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles
Yorkshire Tea
Irn Bru

All full of win. The other way round, I only just tried a Jolly Rancher the other day and I love them! I also love Kool Aid despite the fact it will eventually kill me.

Leave the HP sauce alone, bloody great stuff, much better than that Tomato rubbish.

Bacon + Sausage + Fried Egg + Bread + HP Sauce = Breakfast Sarnie and the best way to start the day known to man (and what I always have from the Cafe at Castle Combe every time I go to watch the racing), all washed down with a nice strong cup of tea.

Is HP sauce what we in the states know as A1 sauce?

It is apparently the same as steak sauce, however made by different companies.

I think it is sold here as Heinz Steak Sauce(not 57).

Don't get me wrong Scaff, I do love the stuff but shutting down that factory and buggering off abroad seems to have hit a nerve with a lot of people in this country. I was poking fun at that really.

No idea what A1 sauce?

Here is what HP Sauce is made from:

# Water
# Vinegar
# Dates
# Glucose-Fructose
# Black Strap Molasses
# Tomato Paste
# Modified Cornstarch
# Salt
# Orange Juice Concentrate
# Onion
# Spices
# Tamarind Extract
# Apple Juice Concentrate
# Garlic
# Chili Peppers
# Mustard Flour

All of which make it very, very tasty, I'm having a BBQ tonight and can tell you now its what will be going on my burgers and sausages.

:)

According to Wikipedia HP and A1 Sauce aren't the same thing, but it's basically the US' equivalent of HP Sauce.

EDIT: I wish I'd noticed how old the previous post was!

A1 sauce is great, I use it on everything like tuna, chicken, turkey, and hamburgers. But don't waste it on steak, a good helping of butter is a million times better than A1 on steak.

To be a little more on topic even though it's been said before no I've never heard of it. I don't know how I feel about it though, I hate soggy stuff, I'll stick with a good ol fashioned bow of cereal.

Sounds a lot like Heinz 57 Sauce which has fig paste and raisin extract, if I'm not mistaken.

Back on Wheetabix, I was stocking in our natural foods dept. and found out we have the organic variety.

I had this stuff when I was in the UK, it was weird...although it was easy on the stomach after a night of pub crawling. I don't think I've ever seen it here before but then again I don't shop for groceries at speciality stores.

Jay
Tsk tsk Fosters, you know better than that.

Sorry.....

....XXXX? I have no idea what you guys drink in SA.

I thought it was West End, SA's equivalent of cat 🤬 I mean Toohey's New. ;)

Jay
Does anyone in Australia drink Fosters?
No, we export it to the idiots that can't tell a good beer from swill. :D Why should the rest of the world have a try of our James Squire's, our Pure Blonde's, our Crownie's?!?! They want the good stuff, they can fly HERE!!

I've heard Cooper's is where it's at from most of the Aussies that my wife works with. It's good stuff, can get most varieties from Beverages & More! out here. 👍

There's a few other good ones SH. Just recently I had James Squire's "HOP THIEF Winter '09" ale which was a limited edition of 20,000 cases. If you want Cooper's, go for the limited edition Pale Ale's. They gain value EVERY YEAR!! 1st editions are now going for over $1k a case!! But other good ones (if you can get them) are:

*Pure Blonde (Victoria)
*Cascade Premium (Tasmania)
*Hahn Premium (New South Wales)
*Boag's Premium (Tasmania)
*XXXX Gold (Queensland)......DON'T TOUCH NORMAL XXXX!! :yuck:

Jay
Yeah Coopers is a popular beer here, especially here in South Australia where the brewery is. Silly Victorians (like Casio) likes that Victorian Bitter (VB) garbage, but as far as I know no one within Australia drinks this "Fosters" we see on TV. :p

Though I am not a very good beer critic considering I don't drink it.

The only good Carlton & United Breweries beers I've found was Pure Blonde, and Carlton Cold for a nice 2nd place. Crownie's are always hit and miss for me, depends on my mood. Sometimes I love it and will drink it for hours, other times I take one sip and put the bottle back down.

You forgot the marmite.

So I did. It deserves it's own shelf.

I'd burn that whole shelf down!! MARMITE IS FERAL AND EVIL!! Go the good old VEGEMITE for me. :D I actually feel sorry for the US guys who can't get it anymore thanks to FDA regulations (you can't have folate in anything but bread products apparently??!? :odd: ).

The man truly knows!! :D HP Sauce is an acquired taste, but it rocks as a marinade for most beef, pork & even minces. 👍 I don't mind it occassionally myself.

Did you buy any to try it out Justin?? :)

For me, my son LOVES Weet-Bix, and he has it without sugar too, which is crazy for a 3yr old!! He hates sugar on his Weet-Bix but will have it on other sugary cereals! :odd:

If we had the regular kind I would but I can't justify spending $6 for a box of cereal I may not like. Maybe when by budget opens up a little I will give it a shot.

It's insane how much extra things with "Organic" on the label are.

That's because people would cram it in places and get yeast infections. No, but seriously that is false. We get Vegemite and Marmite.

I feel like I'm in a foreign country or something in here, but I sure am getting hungry. :D

Trader Joe's been around here for a long time, but I have never set foot in it. Their food I've had been good though, I should check them out.

Try oyster sauce and pepper on your steak as a marinade then broil or grill it. That's how Asian's cook their steaks. Taste great!

Yeah that sounds like it could work. A good steak only needs salt and pepper though. I use oyster sauce in my meat bun mix.

If you're outside (or somewhere you can get crumbs everywhere and not worry about it), eating Wheetabix is a lot easier if you eat it by hand and just dip it in a cup of milk. All the crunch, none of the soggy.

Six DOLLARS?! You can get it for 75p over here! although that's just the crappy Sainsbury's brand stuff that's made of compacted Sawdust!

I think I've found the US equivelant of Marmite and Vegimite. it's a spread called Nutella

and I bet the Aussies and Englishers never heard of (or rarely heard of) Ovaltine :P btw, do you Kiwis have a wacky food?

and for those people who love their grain, we got small beers over here that ain't the usual american crap.

Nutella is nothing like Marmite, nutella is like a hazelnut peanut butter while Marmite is like roofing tar.

Yeah, we used to export it to you.

The New Zealanders have Kiwi 'Fruit' which is actually a bird (their national symbol none the less) with it's beak and legs snapped off.

It's a Hazelnut Chocolate Spread actually. :) And it's only the best thing ever made!

I second that, in fact I think I will go have some on some toast now. Wait, I have to go grab some bread fist, than I will have some.

Wheetibix are delicious. i got some after a few references in the tv show, Buffy. It was delicious to say the least havnt had any in a while though....

Is Wheetabix not sold in the US? Or is it just extremely unpopular? Because some seem to know it and some don't!
