Rally? Rally in GT5 is not what it used to be where are the tracks? And the WRC doesn't have any point to point.

Nascar? What two tracks? But the cars look awesome and sound good!

Top Gear? The only thing that is Top Gear is the track with no real way to set a standing still lap time. Plus numerous other things. There is nothing about the show in the track or events, no stig (biggest mistake), camera angles are wrong.

Lobbies? Pretty cool and great.

Night racing? Looks awesome but wish it was on more tracks.

Dynamic weather? Looks awesome 👍 Could be on more tracks though.

Damage? Puulease that is a joke. The only thing about damage that is good imo is the scuff marks from rubbing a wall and the internal damage to parts of the car that effect the way it handles.

To tell you the truth I'm glad we don't have this. This would be worse then what we have now.

Since when do you have to be happy with every single aspect of a game to enjoy it? If I complained the gameplay in a game is repetitive, but I enjoyed the story (which is how I view one game I've played) then I must hate it?

No, they don't. The way the NASCAR cars sound is everything I think is wrong with the sound in the game. A cross-plane V8 revving to over 9000 RPM on a "single-carburettor"-style intake has a particular roar that is totally absent in GT5's cars.

GT5 omits intake sounds in general and yet adds artificial detail to the exhaust sound on many cars; the NASCAR cars are prime examples. It's just not right.
I'm happy they're in the game, though, as they're a lot of fun to drive, irrespective of the track.

Point to point tracks were meant to be in the game, as were all tracks from GT4. I like the evolution of the rally mode in GT5 (variable weather, for instance), but it is too limited.

Top Gear is a shame, yes. I'm not convinced that licensing hasn't caused this problem. The Stig was in promotional videos before the game launched, for instance.

I suspect time change and weather will be coming for more tracks, too.

Damage is an odd compromise. I think they should have had an option for all races for both the type and "degree" of damage. I don't think it's a joke at all; it's not an easy thing to do dynamically.

I love GT5, and I've been playing it as much as possible before I leave for University.

But the game is not perfect, and there are many features that could and should be improved. And pointing them out is often the only way PD will realize the flaws and fix them.

I can't believe this debate is still going on! While it's a very valid question proposed in the first instance, would this site exist if it wasn't for PD?

Yes, I'm aware that GT5 has it's flaws but can we not just move on from that and enjoy it for what it is? How many public rants occurred about Asteroids when it was released? I'll tell you; next to none. Why? Because we didn't have the capability to voice ourselves the way we do now with the 'internet'.

So, if progress never achieved anything then this debate would not be happening.

BTW, I don't know what your definition of the current generation of gamers is, but I'm 18 and Yoshi's Island on the SNES is one of my favorite games. The only reason I don't play older games is because I don't have them.

Without our support, there would not be a Polyphony Digital and GT Planet in the first place. If GT1 had come out and tanked, we would probably have never heard of the GT brand again, Polyphony Digital would not have been formed, and Mr Yamauchi would likely now be generic game designer #23491.

It's in Polyphony's interest to take on board all the criticism. Maybe that way they'll start thinking, instead of blinding rehashing the same broken design and principles from years gone by.

If I kept comparing the current games to the games I played in the late eighties and early nineties I'd seriously worry whether I still see things in the right context or perspective, if I couldn't judge, for example, a new Ford Focus based on contemporary criteria but kept the original Model T as the main reference point then there would be nothing to complain about that Focus.
Thankfully I've slightly moved with the times and judge GT5 according to what's currently relevant, not what was impressive 20 years ago.
Therefor you can't blame a new generation for having a different point of reference than yours, it's only logical expectations change.
If you can't see that, you might as well start handing out these...

When people bash the game for reasons insignificant to the spirit of a GT game(livery,damage,standards and so on)
When I browse the lobby lounge and the only full rooms I see are "Dirty racing"and"road laws".
Then I grant myself the right to call them unworthy of such a game.
It's the cod generation everything has to be easy straightforward and flashy for them.Substance?You can forget it.
Many people here stated that the core aspect of the GT series(driving feeling)is the best in the series.I didn't see them getting a thumbs up.

I didn't say they sounded perfect but it does resemble a nascar and could be better.

I wish we had point to point but I wouldn't be to upset with just more of the original rally tracks.

I'm not convinced either but I think it could be a combination of both, licensing and just not thinking of doing something like this. For as artistic and creative as PD are they should have used this feature to pump the game out to the biggest audience of this game.

I get your point and just implementing whatever is most requested could potentially ruin the balance or change the game beyond recognition (which actually might not necessarily be a bad thing though).

But the Paul McCartney example you gave is missing the mark a bit in my opinion since he's imagining and creating things which didn't exist before and are mostly abstract.
If GT5 were a fantasy/science fiction game where the whole visual style and gameplay were the product of a certain artistic vision you buy into or not, you could indeed say, let the artist make the art without the admirer/consumer interfering with the creative process (unless it's part of that creative vision).

Ofcourse GT5 is also in a way an artistic vision, yet this vision is aimed at replicating things that exist already in real life (or at least in some cases could theoretically exists, like fantasy cars/tracks) so any suggestions made by fans aren't directly interfering with the style or the imagination of an artist but mainly about the choices being made regarding content and gameplay aspects with the same aim of creating the best sim possible in their eyes.
I think it's safe to say most here have a final vision of the ultimate GT-game which may actually not be that different from the one Kaz visions (although largely without the talent/means to do so), unlike a fantasy game or any work of art which requires a true imaginative mind and where there are so many possibilities it really needs one vision to come to fruition coherently.

It wouldn't hurt PD if they listen to the requests/suggestions made by their consumers (which they already seem to do) since a videogame in many ways shares aspects with works of art yet differs in just as many ways too.
Unlike a music record you passively consume (and which hypothetically doesn't 'need' a listener to be played), a videogame let's you participate in its content, making you an essential part of the product so it's perhaps logical to expect feedback to make the experience better since it's also foremost a product aimed to please.
A music record doesn't always aim to please (it could aim to stir other emotions or question certain issues for example) and even the collected work of the Beatles didn't cost as much to produce as a single GT-game so thinking it's purely a creative vision without big corporate backing and interests is a bit naive.

The point is more of who is making the game? See, that's the problem with the advent of the internet. Far too many gamers treat it like a magic genie that is going to grant them every wish. And when they don't get what they want, they throw a digital tantrum and create topics like this one. Nobody can work very well with someone over their shoulder constantly saying "Do it my way. Do it MY way! Why aren't you doing it MY WAY?! YOU NEED TO DO IT MY WAY!! I KNOW MORE THAN YOU, NOW DO IT MY WAY!!". That's exactly what many gamers have become. And like I've said before, just because someone has an idea, that doesn't automatically mean it's a good one.

Gamers have long forgotten the expression of "too many chefs spoil the broth". If you have a ton of these user suggestions, eventually the game is going to become an unfocused, and jumbled mess. It wouldn't be long before we saw a zombie Lamborghini. There are times where you have to just back off, and give someone the freedom to do their job the best way they can.
