Has anyone seen the scene in The Rundown where Arnold has a cameo and "gives his seat up" to The Rock at the bar? It's a metaphor for an aging action hero passing the torch to a younger one. Arnold and his movies worked for the 80s and early 90s, then all of a sudden people stopped liking the movies he was starring in. I personally liked Last Action Hero, Eraser and End of Days, but most people would admit that The 6th Day and Collateral Damage were downright awful. The Rock has just as much talent and "acting ability" as Arnold, and this is coming from someone who was positively obsessed with Arnie for most of my life. I still love him, but not the "politician" Arnold. I don't keep track of his life anymore because I don't care for politics much. The Rock is simply picking up where Arnold left off. I liked The Scorpion King, and I loved both The Rundown and Walking Tall. Arnold and The Rock can be compared, but only after you've given The Rock enough time to make as many movies as Arnold has.
And for those who still think Arnold is far superior and has been since day one, try and find a few of his earliest movies, particularly Hercules in New York, The Villain, and Stay Hungry (where, by the way, he played - gasp - a bodybuilder!), and then tell me they were even one tenth as entertaining as The Rock's first three feature films.
To me, it's all about the Arnold's charisma. After the second "The Mummy", I really thought Rock was going to be next Schwarzenegger(his last name's killing me!). However, after watching "Rundown" and "Walking Tall", I've decided I was wrong. Rock is a young guy, so yes, he could prove me wrong in the future, but I don't think he's got Schwarzenegger's level of star power. I am an old fart, so I could be wrong. Maybe I just don't get it.
I think what Zardoz is saying is that, "Predator" is not talked about as much as the other blockbusters that you mentioned. It's weird. Everybody loves it, but nobody hardly ever talks about it.
