Drag Racing Confirmed

First of all, let me start by saying that the ass-o-listic Pontiac Sunfire/GXP of today is ugly as hell as GM's stying is going down the crapper. And for it to beat a Saleen S7 in a game is a crime. It can't even compare to the S7 (or set me straight, M5Power).

Second off, drag racing should be its own series. Or, if you want, make it for some "special stages" in road racing competition. And those wins don't affect your win/loss record or points in a championship. Now keep in mind, just because it's drag racing doesn't mean that only Detroit Iron matters on road courses. Why so? Detroit Iron aren't the only cars that can straightline with the best of them.

This next paragraph goes out to all my sport compact and respective import fans. How would you like to have NOPI and NDRA style drag racing matchups? We can make things interesting for you all by match race events like "Pro FWD," "Pro RWD," (I don't know if there's a such thing, but) "Pro 4WD," "All-Motor," "Pro Import," or whatever it's called. In other words, it's a chance for ANY leadfooter with ANY car to take it out to the track. You can even pit a Subaru 360 against a Fiat 500R from the past. Mini Cup: Drag Racing Style (imagine Mini Cooper matchups!). Beetle Drags... I'm not REALLY big on drag racing, but it would be a treat to have drag racing. And I agree. More machines would be cool. Whether it's Abel Ibarra's RX-7, that Tanabe shop-top Civic, John Force's Mustang, or whatever. This can be equal oppurtunity. It doesn't have to be American drags all the time.

Let me end with a weird car idea. Imagine a... Holden Monaro Funny Car... down Vegas.

OK bottom line GT4 should have no real drag cars. And just let you use the drag strip for your cars ONLY. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well, that defeats the purpose of "drag race mode" IMO. I think it will rock. The online competitiveness in this mode alone will be fantastic.

I think the idea of the Drag Race mode is as 'street Drag' goes (fast and furious 1). Technically its a good way to mesure a car's power. If there is online play, that will be fun to play/watch (if audiences work).

Wow... Been on holiday for a week and a lot of info has been dished out...

Drag racing... Not a massive fan personally but I can see it being a lot of fun...

Also... a lot of Drag racers have serious wheel and suspension mods so that the back wheels have more grip bigger tyres etc... Maybe we will be able to have Race modifications for Normal racing and "Drag Modifications" for the drag strip?!

Do you guys think the drag racing will be a part of the gran turismo mode? I mean that you have to win drag races in order to get the 100% completion? like you have rally, beginners, amateur, professional and now also drag races?

Yes, along with every other style of competition in GT4.

Probably, what if we could make our own Drag Racers, what if Polypony Digital implements a feature in which we can choose a car, for example; a skyline, then race it in the "1st Race" win it and get a wheelie bar. "second race" get a special engine upgrade, "3rd race" Special Aero Kits for drag racing. Then maybe we could slowly make our own dragsters? :dopey:

PD in my opinion should just use the drag racing aspect of gt4 just for fun. Nothing serious.

Yup, wasn't it announced that it was part of Arcade Mode? I don't know why you gouys are going off about top fuel dragsters... It's the 400m test with oponnent..

It's net been said that it's just part of Arcade mode, in GT2 and GT3 the rally modes were part of the sim mode, now in GT4 thats being expanded thats all.

Hiya! :D :O

Wow...so much post in this thread that made me want to fainT! :O:O:O The pictures look really beautiful and amazing and is sure to put other racing games to shame and make them buy GT4 rather than NFS:U 2 :O:O:O

The lighting effects on the pictures.... I really like how it reflects on the body of the cars! I really hope they will have special effects such as lotta smoke coming out from the wheels MASSIVE SPINS :O:O:O

Having Top Fuel dragsters will be kinda weird IMO. I cant really imagine how much tuning you can do with it, but I also think you probably can't make it any faster with new parts!

I'll have to agree on that one.

That would be nice but that just doesn't sound Polyphony Digital.

Hey, McLaren'sAngel. I was just thinking up idea's like that make it faster with new parts, it's not likely to be in GT4. :dunce:

I don't think you could add anything to a topfuel dragster.

Drag racing, just what we needed.
I refuse to add a parachute to my Toyota vitz :)
Just another way from Detroit to pour overpowered, overweighted "technology" down the rest of the world's throat.
What's next ? demolition derby ?
I don't want that serie to waste some valuable space on the DVD.

Biased go away, you fail to understand the point of the GT series once again, this series is not for you. Find another game that is less diverse and enjoy it, farewell.

"and is sure to put other racing games to shame and make them buy GT4 rather than NFS:U 2"

No, it won't, some people are just stupid anyway

I don't understand how some people complain that the GT4 will have more modes! Thank god I say, Gt3 was about as thrilling as watching count down after a while (and that's not even mentioning the sensation of "speed"). Hell, even if you don't use the mode in question, it's still good that you have the option to give it a go when GT4 starts to get abit boring (oh god, here comes the "gt never gets boring club").

I can see drag racing being good fun, I hope it forces manual gears though.

Drag racing should force manual gears, include a clutch (optional, they could use the handbrake button) and it should be great online.

And Code, I don't understand how extra modes are a bad thing wither, I mean okay if PD decided to include lawnmower racing I wouldn't want that in GT but other forms of prosessional car racing are all welcome.

Wonder if PD will include more tyre smoke in this mode? I supose it depends on weather you have to warm up the tyres as well. Somehow I don't think you will have to stage up to the line. You know,do the burnout through the water to warm up the tyres. This is more wishfull thinking than anything.

You should specify "US" professional car racing.
I spent some years in Europe, north ( Yes, 3 years with the nice people from Lexington KY )and south America, Asia and believe me drag is just a US local niche.
So, go back to your niche.

I will admit I don't like drag racing much, it's mainly a US thing (as is going around in circles round an oval track) but GT does have to cater to people all over the world hence the yank tanks and drag racing. You may not like it but other people do. At least we got some more rally in and real tracks like Nurnburg, hell hopefully (imo) drag won't be essential to the flow of the actual game, and just an option.

I'm not a huge fan of drag racing but it's a nice addition .
Now I can racing some of my friends that apparently doesn't know how to turn in a racing game.... :dopey:

Especially with the muscle cars, GT4 wouldn't be GT4 without a drag strip to test those cars where they perform best

Drag can use the straight line of the test course, the same one used in the b license. This way they won't waste any precious bytes on the DVD that can be put to better use.
They will just require a few texture mapping for the smoke and the parachute.

we've already seen that there will be more than one drag track because of the vegas pictures.
