Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Well, I am not really sure about the HP per Liter thingy, concept. The way I see it is like: The more HP, the more HP there will be per Liter? And I also get confused sometimes with other thread of HP per cylinder...I am a confused bunny! :O

Power to weight ratios are important. HP per liter doesn't matter one bit. The only people who care about hp per liter are the people who have no other area that they can brag about. :sly:

either that or engineers with big egos...

hp per liter isnt as important as useable torque, smooth power delivery, or reliability. It's just a way for people with small... ahem, displacement engines to feel vindicated. It can also make a car seem more impressive than it really is.

It's fine and dandy if you can squeeze mad power out of a 1.8L, but if it's a peaky, detonation prone, lumpy-idling time bomb, it ain't worth it.

I'll tell you what.... I went to Gainseville, FL for the Gator Nationals this year, and boy oh boy. 8,000 hp sure is bad ass. The speed the sound and how loud it is. My eyeballs were shaking each run! The way the sound pushes you back as it takes off. Most impressive thing I've ever seen in my life. As much as F1 has so much technology, brute force conquers all.

that is an amazing way to explain why drag racing is cool. 👍

ok it seems that this caused a great debate which is not what i wanted both these cars have great pros and few cons like shure a drag car can accelerate to 500 km/h in 4.7 secs but can it brake from 345km/h to 60km/h in a little over 100m or corner at speeds faster than most road cars can go in a straight line no it cant but then do formula one cars have deep beautiful sounding engines no but does a drag car hit 19000 rpm, make your chest jump out of your rib cage as it changes gear and pop your ear drums as it goes past but then does a blah, blah blah blah......

They are made for different forms of racing, so comparing them is a waste of time, although f1 cars are fast in a straight line.

do you think the cars will step out when taking off the line in a drag race in gt4? do they in gt4:p? this will make it fun because you will be struggling to keep the car in a straight line like it should be like in real life.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Thank you PhatFat, LethalChem, Inferno and Kninight for giving a knowledgeable feed back on my confusion! :O I greatly appreciate it! Too bad I haven't learn about those HP/Liter and Power to Weight ratios yet...I am only in Auto-Mechanic 1-2! (='.'=)

And the good thing is that today(10/27/04), I gladly accepted an invitation from my teacher to go on a field trip to the NHRA for a DAY!!!! :O:O:O First time I will ever see a 6000-8000HP Dragster.....:( I AM SCARED!!!!! :scared:

Bring your ear plugs, they're loud as hell.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

98Cobra and PhatFat...you are both like...scarring me MORE! :scared: I am sure those Dragster will bite my EARS HARD EVEN IF I HAVE EAR PLUGS ON! :scared: I would love to see what it would feel like to have something go a 1/4 mile in 4 seconds with a top speed of 300+ RUSH PAST ME! :O

BTW, since like...probably the exhaust system will just let air flow freely from the dragster, doesnt it make the dragster release gases that just smell bad? :odd:

I remember back in HS they brought in a top fueler onto the field and the whole school was shaking. It was car day or something like that. BRAM BRAM BRAM you could feel the sound bounce off the building walls and stuff. my ears got pwned when they revved it.

i want drag racing yes but i want a good drag racing experience not some straight forward press acellerator and if you got a faster car you win sort of thing. i mean the cars dont even react properly to taking off in rwd by far geez need for speed:underground can even do a bit of it right. the cars dont even need to be steered in the gt games.

RX-7_FC_DrIfteR
can we use normal cars on there? Like my rx-7 fc ?

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I don't know what an RX-7 FC is..but based on that avatar It doesnt look like the RX-7 in Need For Speed: Underground. NFS:U uses a 1995 RX-7! :O

Horse power per liter is just what it sounds like. the amount of horsepower an engine makes with one liter of displacement. if you take the hp/liter figure and multiply it by the size of the engine in liters you can see how much horse power it makes. consequently, and more comonly, you can also take the amount of horsepower the engine makes and devide it by the engines displacement in liters and you get its hp/liter. For example you could have a 3.2 liter V6 producing 125 hp per liter that would make 400 hp. or you could have a 5.0 liter V8 producing 80 hp per liter that would also make 400 hp. the reason hp/liter is important stems back to the power to weight ratio. Of those two engines which is going to be lighter? The V6. a lighter engine makes a lighter car. sure the V6 dosent have the flexability of the V8 (ie less torque in the low rev region) but a good transmission and driver can make up for it and be faster in the end thaks to the lighter weight. Hope that clears it up.

Not to jump off the subject, or try and argue with anyone. But hp/liter not an acurate way to measure the performance of an engine for many different reasons. First, Cylider displacement does not corolate equally with engine size or weight. a good example of this is the VQ series engine in the 350Z and the infinity G35. It has a displacement of 3.5 liters and makes in its most powerfull trim 295hp. It makes about 84hp/liter. If you compare it to the GM LS2 in the new GTO and Corvette, you find that the VQ35 and LS2 are within an inch in every extirior dimension and have about the same weight. Keep in mind that the LS2 is a 6 liter engine. Also, they are releasing an LS7 version, that is the same external size as the LS2, weighs a little less, but has a cylinder displacement of 7 liters.

Another example Honda with there amazing 2.0 from the S2000. 120hp/liter. But what most peaple do not realize, is that the amazing 2.0 weighs in at about 350lbs, just as much as the Honda 3.2 liter V6 that makes 270hp in the new acura TL.

Another thing that hp/liter fails to represent is that an engine in motion can not be compared with a static number. By that i mean that an engine may dicplace only 2 liters, but the speed at which it is spinning is not taken into account. A 2 liter motor that can spin to 9000rpm will make a third mor power then on that can only spin to 6000rpm, all things else being equal. Of course, it would make sense, because it is moving a third more air. the more air in, the more power you make. 2 liters 9000 times or 3 liters 6000 times, same thing.

This is the reason that most racing engine have very high redlines, when you limit the internal size of an engine, the only way to move more air is to spin faster. now in F1 we see 3.0 reving out to 19,000 rpm. and they make 900+ hp.

what the **** are you thinking......" o yeah we're going to outrun cars with 1.6 and 1.8l engines with our almighty 5.7l V8 small-block..........oooh that's just soo cool!!!...............................NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is why they shouldn't be in a racing game to begin with...

I'm with you, King. There's nothing like the feeling of a Boss 427 or a GTO just spanking a Civic or CRX. 👍

Its a Boss 429, the 427 is a Cobra.

just to let u america muscle guys know my friend has a street driven civic hatch that eats mustangs and camaros for lunch. 11.5e.t.s all day at the track.

Well congradulations to your friend with his almighty Civic hatch but just to let you know, its very common to find an '80s 5.0 Mustang running 10's and under on the strip. Oh and before you say anything, thats just the '80s Mustangs, wait till you see the others. :nervous:

Oh yeah and at this moment on looking on Road&Track's Feb. '05 magazine and it has a 5.0 Mustang that runs 1/4 - 7.9's at 178mph on street tires. :sly:

And? Have you ever been to a "Fun Ford Day"? They have stangs doing 7's all day. A 10 second stand is slow for those types of meets.

You think he's the only person in the world to do it? Give me enough money and I can get a toyota tercel to run those times!

Look the whole point is that a 302/281 (for the stangs :) ) or a 350 (for the camaros :) ) has much more potential then a 109... :sly: I'm sure the whole forum will agree with me on that one. Sides, you can't compare the two, you have a economy car vs a sports car. Not really fair :p

So; Anything can be made fast.

here we go one of these. the civic dosnt have power steering, ac, a radio. along with a completly gutted interior also. ive seen 11 sec civics also and that what they all look like. theres a difference between a race car that can be driven on the street and a street car that is fast on a track. i cna build a 11 or 10 sec camaro no problem and still have an inteior and ps pb, and smoke any civic, with the ac on :)

well, i'm not reallly the person to be comparing imports with musclecars.......because it looks a little bit unfair. :dunce:

But...........you might take a look at some of these movies:

racemovies

for you musclecar guys, there's a vid calles "Bell Air '57" , just search for it
