i was thinking about doing one at a time....

but yes that is the idea... same car tho one two kinds of tires which will be seperate classes... i dunno if its even gonna work... i will get yelled at for not putting in oneline racing forum... i dunno...

we can either do that or have a lil one all of our own right here right now... just someone pick a car any car... or read above post and give me suggestions

Try out your idea with a simple starting point. You can probably start on Laguna Seca and use an FR car with different tires. Probably most of the people here use their Supra or their Trueno, so you just have to decide between those and then the tires. That's all :)

hmmm laguna is a good one... i think i will start this up later...

i will give hte choice of cars you you all... no racing cars allowed...

fr...

fc3s
fd3s
trueno ss
any other suggestions that are about as fast as the above... same hp limit...

mr...

speedster
elise
mr2 g limited or gts
help...

i will wait a bit for suggestions and then i will just go with these on t8's and then later on t2's

unless yall come up with another vehicle in a similar class... i guess i will go with the above... i think the fd3s kinda outclasses the other mr...

yeah... true... it hink i will do both for tho just cause you will get fster lap times on t8s than t2's no matter what... higher friction coeffs

Wow, I log off for a day and all of a sudden ten or twenty new posts are here. You guys must be really dedicated to finding some sort of answer (well, I'm curious about this too). Thanks for the vid link, TruenoAE86, and thanks for the 4wheel drift technique description, bengee (I'm just studying general physics for now since you asked).

This seems like a really good idea for drift v. grip. I want to see if I'm at your guys' level of driving yet, so maybe I'll try this, too. Apricot seems like a good startup choice for this: it doesn't have too many changes in elevation between turns to mess up any weight distribution problems. Laguna Seca is also good. I think that you should pick the car for everyone, bengee, just to keep it all equal. I notice that hp does go up for my cars if I drive them more, though, so there might be a small difference in hp (if our cars are not the same age).

you guys go and test all the road out and i will compete with you on any HP cars but not Modified one, because we all know they're built for grip, so i'll be waiting!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, this sounds like fun. I think we should all use the same cars though. There will always be one car that will be slightly faster then the others; just to keep it fair.

ok.... same car... and we will be required to run on both t2's and t8's... i am thinking ap or ls too... or well tht is what i said before...

if you guys want me to choose i think we wll start out with mr... seems like a neutral layout to me... for either grip or drift...

hmmm....
while i work out a difficulty rating for turns to anaylyze yall with... which might be difficult... you guys can choose between these cars...

opel speedster 350ish hp... 850 kg
lotus elise 190 350ish hp... 670 kg
toyota mrs 350ish hp... lightened once i dunno what weight but prolly around 800kg
tommy kaira zz-s 350ish hp... 670 kg...

i dunno about hp... of the cars... i am guessing that too avoid any temptation to cheat we have maxed out cars... any gear settings... any susepnsion settings...

ok???

oh yeah just to remind you guys i am gonna take into account speed through corners more than speed ont eh straights... that is gonna be the purpose of this thing... but i will also take into consideration lap times...

ok i have decided on apricot... i think its a pretty good all around course... doesnt favor grip or drift and any corners except for one obviously... and it will prolly be easiest to rank the corner difficulty...

any suggestions... i am still working out how i will rank corner times...

i think i will rank everyone as 1 through whatever... then have every sector ranked one through however many sectors there are... r... and that number will be the point for the fastest... if you are under the fastest time you get that number minus that number divided by people... i think i will count hte first turn as one turn for times...

but i dont think that my above method reallyworks

i need to use time in each... entrance speed... average speed... and exit speed... maybe for each corner i will rank the ppl 1 thorugh whatever for each of these categories for every sector excluding those that do not involve turns... and use a system like hte point system in series to find out who is really the fastest... remember that lap times will also be included... adn could break ties and such...

Perhaps it should be less of a competition and more of a standing challenge? Just update your first post every time someone gets a better time or better speed through a corner or whatever you decide on judging. Then after a month or two we'll have a pretty good idea of the fastest way to do it just by observing the fastest times people have come up with.

I agree with Pergatory. It should just be an open challenge to find out what type of technique is best on which corners, not who is best on each sector. After all, wasn't that the point?

yeah an open challenge sounds the best...

i think more than time matters tho... exit speed and entracne speed and average speed through the corner are important...

i think what i will end up doing is make a post with the challenge for apricot simply because it has a good variety of turns... post the sectors and describe each in a table format... then i will ask people to submit sector times and speeds as shown in anaylisis...as well as they way that they are driving... with slip angles or not...

the person with the fastest time automatically gets the spot... the person with the fastest exit gets the place if there is a tie... the person with the fastest avg speed gets the spot if the two above are tied... and entrance speed is for when the above three are tied...

in this way we get driving styles giving the best way through corners...

Just to make it a little clearer, will everyone end up using the same car at first, or will it be a choice between a select few (I think it should be one car for equality)? Also, I think you should post one challenge for each type of drivetrain (eventually) just to see any differences. After that, we can all work on analyzing the other tracks.

sorry for not being clear... too many ideas at once... i was thinking one car for each drivetrain as welll... (not all at once... weperate challenges would be nice)

i was thinking of doing mr first... just becuase this is a nuetral drivetrain, and has a couple of lightwieght cars with limited power to choose from... i guess i will have to choose but i would like more input from you all on the cars...

i want to focus on cars with a lower max hp becuase it removes the possibility that an individual will have a grossly different modded vehicle...\

should we only run on t8's since these tires will always grant the fastest lap times... or should we also run on t2's because in racing situations it may be beneficial to run on tires that wear slower... we would not compare the two... just compare different results when using the different tires...

hey tailo or nayone else...between the below mr vehicles which would you like to run in...

speedster
elise 190
mrs
zz-s

i am leaning away from the speedster sense it has kinda been done in the beginning of the thread... but if you think we should use it its done and we are doing the speedster... right now i am leaning towards the elise 190 tho...

I'm leaning towards the ZZ-S and Elise 190. They are both, at max, I think less than 350hp, and a good 670kg stock. Speedster had been already done, and I'm thinking that MR-S is a little heavier than the other two.

If it were up to me, my first thought would be to go with Elise 190. It's British, not too low, not too wide, plus it just looks better. I think we should get everyone else vote in here too, since we'll all be the first to try.

ok then ppl you heard the man and you heard me before vote...

elise 190
mrs
zz-s

so far two for elise

Plus, on the tires, we should allow T8s for first run and T2s for a second run, for each driver, so that we can still keep a constant.

ok For FR cars I vote the Silvia S14 model, because it's one of the nicest looking cars in the game when it's in navy blue color.

For MR i vote for the MR2, or the Elise.

i am completely open to suggestions on fr cars... i think a 4wd try should also be done eventually... guess evos... soobies... are sho ins...

well the speedster is like a bit more weighty elise... lol with a bit more hp.. if you want we will use it when trying out another course... its a great car...

ok hten elise 190 it is...

on apricot..

btw where should i post this...

i am thinking of starting a "grip versus drift: the challenge"

Wow, revived thread. I thought it would've been closed by now. Anyways, just go to the link. That's where this thread went.
