Just got into the game and I'm having trouble catching RWD cars from oversteer. It's like they just snap and I couldn't recover them. Used to be able to save just by applying the brakes a bit but no dice here.

Anyone have tips? I'm using controller.

I struggled with this as well and then I believe it was @Tool1312 posted this in the Discord as a baseline RWD setup and it's worked pretty well for me so far.

"Nothing special, just all diff settings minimum ( to the left )
Rear anti-roll minimum
Rear ride height lowest
Rear springs one click lower
Front anti-roll maximum
Front ride height maximum
Front springs one click higher"

Thanks! Will try these settings up later.

Yeah I put them in the discord after reading a few other posts about the wayward RWD handling. It's nothing scientific and probably not so much how you'd do it irl but in the game it does seem to help.

Another thing I found when trying to tame the Group B 4WD cars is to move the torque split more forwards, ie towards the right on the slider. That works pretty well also, especially in the RS200

Seems extreme, just lowering the rear diff acceleration setting to about 1/4 max and giving the rear 2 to 4 clicks of toe in (towards the right) should make rear wheel drive cars much more manageable. Maybe Group B RWD cars need extreme settings but the majority won't.

Perhaps, but these have worked nicely for me so far 😁

Toe settings are ones I don't usually mess with but maybe I should.

Tbh I use stock settings for the other 4wd cars, they feel nice enough on their own

Tried this out on the Opel Manta which is a Group B car and shaved around ten seconds off my time. Ta.

I finally got the game a week ago, on ps5, and i have to say im really relieved and surprised, and happy about it.
It seems most videos i kept seeing, plus comments were pretty misleading for me.

Either world records seemingly gliding over everything, or players that can't push cars to near limit, or with aids on, or less damage on etc.

Or it's examples of unusual crash recoveries, cutting, etc that make it look more arcadey.

I find it similar to dr2, but with more defined grip, and many cool, long, technical stages, and more grounded feel. And crashes and damage on hardcore are pretty solid, in feel and visually.

Have to apologize to the devs, as i let myself trash the game from being misled and so disappointed. And tip my hat at them and thanks for a very solid sim style rally game.
Plus at a bargain..

Im loving almost all cars and stages, kinda addicted even hehe, must have done near a 100 hours already, according to the pstore app.

I'm also so glad we can do custom championships, with any content, and you even have a nice narration, that is somewhat relevant for each stage, event, and your situation, etc.

And with all seasons, weather, time of day, degradation settings, it's a lot of variety, and up to 24 stages you can put for each rally, and up to 16 rallies championships. Cool..

Some cars seem to be lacking some sounds, or sound impact in some views though.
But many are very cool.

And it feels like downshifts don't give this up revs surge you should hear, and feel. And off throttle sounds could be better maybe.

And doppler effect could be sharper it seems in roadside cam replays, they seem not quite dynamic enough.

Braking seems really efficient and stable, not sure if it's overdone.
But i love tarmac in this, very well defined for me, but then i already liked it even in dr2 hehe, idk.
You can definitely slide, laterally enough to me, maybe longitudinally not enough, like when braking.

I'm using full cockpit pov for the most part, and loving the old Porsche, the manta 400, the wrx, the early 2000 mini, etc etc, cool inside sounds.
Love most cars on all surfaces. Well except ice in monte carlo, not fun much.

Wrx on Kenya stage,👌😍.
One little thing i find a little silly and annoying is, in car views, when you damage the radiator, the steam doesn't dissipate when moving, and keeps blocking your view.
It shows also in road side cams replays and looks pretty silly hehe.

Also, while after setting my ffb, on my g29, it feels fine, and i feel most of what i need, it could be more refined, like loss of grip effect, is a little rough.
Acc is smoother, refined in comparison.

Oh, and i love the dust trails, well done, staying long, and expanding far back with time.👌

For most part, it runs almost perfect, just sometimes tearing, maybe more with long shadows, like at dawn setting.

Now i find myself hoping for continued dlcs, and updates, as i worry if they put out a new game, that it will be more arcadey in feel and style of game. Plus again optimizations and bugs and improvements again for a year if new game or engine.

And i would prefer not loose content, just add more, like the 3 coming new rallies, maybe old ones like Australia. Maybe gt-r cars like modern Porsches, idk.

It doesn't seem to have sold well too, hope others like me, come around.., to me it's a super rally sim style game. Very enjoyable, fun, cool.
Long post i know..

Edit: i set all on max no aids, manual, hardcore, etc and it feels good.
The old quattro s1 e2 is so fun on dirt like Estonia, with slides and jumps.
It be cool to add the other old previous quattros.

The hybrids, i can't say i like the system so much, seems it's a more useful strategic way how it is in wrc gen. But i like the cars themselves.

Thanks to all of you, it feels so much more manageable now! Just tried it with the 131 Abarth which is my favourite to use since DR1 and feels almost like heaven.

I know you'll probably have tried it but someone on discord shared these settings @SharkyOB @UKMikey @MagpieRacer
They were for Greece and the MK1 Escort but if you get close to the basic principle of the settings, they translate really well for other rwd cars like the Mk2 Escort and even the Stratos. They're no longer snappy or nervous. In fact in Greece it's so smooth it's night and day from the stock setup.

I need to go back into the game with those settings and see if it was a fluke. And this is why .........

Before I loaded up EA WRC to try these settings, I thought I'd have a go on F1 2017 cos I'd not tried it with my Moza R3 before. Did a few laps and it was really good.

Then I went into WRC and tried the setups and found a big difference with the MK1 and MK2 Escorts. After that I tried the Stratos and immediately saw the wheel in the cockpit view was reacting far too quickly ( you can see the full wheel cos you can't adjust the seat position other than the distance ), then I realised the wheel rotation was too small ( 360 instead of 900 and soft lock ON )
I went to the calibration screen and it was on 360 but wouldn't go any more than that. I then used the Moza app to check and it had set itself to 360. Once I loaded my preset it went back to 900 and was fine.

Now the max wheel rotation available in the F1 game is 360, so I can only think the wheel defaulted to that when I played it and didn't recalibrate once I was in WRC. It doesn't have that issue in ACC cos that's 900 aswell.

So now I need to retry those RWD setups with my previous wheel rotation to make sure they still work as good.

Thanks for listening

Haha

Appreciated as I'm not on Discord.

Just tried the Stratos out with the Tool secret sauce sprinkled on it on the Drosopigi - Aghia Triada and Parnassós stages and it's a strange feeling being able to push it like a Yaris without the car going into multiple burnouts on each turn. It's like that comic I read where Swamp Thing realises he's a plant and not a bloke and his girlfriend asks him what it's like not having to breathe any more and he says "I suddenly realise what an effort it's been all along".

Next stage in my custom championship was Stroķacs and this must be the first time I've gone over 100mph in this car. Having made short work of the Season 2 moment on an icy Monte I'm eager to try this out at nightmare locations like Malewa and Kudarisawa to see if the magic holds up. If so I'm considering switching to stronger beers in order to keep the challenge level up.

From the settings @Tool1312 posted there's only two things that'll be reducing oversteer in a RWD car:

  • Rear anti-roll being softer than the front
  • The extreme toe in on the front tyres

I don't think the second of these is really necessary as 2 degrees is a lot of toe and would cause tyre wear in a real car. The thing that's weird about those settings is the high driving lock on the rear diff, which should add oversteer back in. So I'd imagine things would be just as good if you reduced the driving lock down to around halfway and also reduced the toe in on the front wheels (maybe reduce the front camber too).

Most of the other setup changes I can see there are related to softening the suspension due to the rough stages in Greece, but then the ride height is really low, which would probably cause the car to bottom out in some situations 🤷‍♂️

The increased handbrake force is useful for those endless chicanes and Hermann Tilke-like square turns following massive straights. However I found myself using the handbrake less because I found it pointing the car in the right direction a lot easier with the new settings.

Even when I didn't and had to drive over the ridges on some hairpins the car hardly became unsettled quite as much thanks to the softer suspension. I didn't feel the car bottom out on my controller; maybe this'd be more apparent with an FFB wheel.

There was a tiny bit of oversteer but it was easier to compensate for and I'll take it as a tradeoff for actually being able to turn corners.

So with Hard Chargers now out in the wild, I wonder how long we will have to find out what (if anything) is next?...
I wonder whether we'll get any more Moments with the new cars and stages?

I have tried just making the front anti roll stiffer than the rear before but the car was still nervous. I wonder if the fully soft dampers are also helping the situation but it's a work in progress

Maybe, but tbh that just seems like just softening the suspension for rough terrain. If I found a RWD car to be oversteery, these are the things I would do immediately:

  • Lower rear ARB a few clicks
  • Lower the acceleration setting on the rear diff
  • Add tow-in at the rear

Obvs, YMMV with this. The Stratos doesn't have all of these setup options so that might be why the setup above is a little 'non-standard'.

Been playing this a lot more than previous rally games and although I’m not the quickest guy in the world it feels so dialled in with my Fanatec wheel and LC pedals , maybe controversial but think it’s the greatest rally game ever made, it’s competing with Red Dead 2 and the newly released Last of Us 2 for my game time at the moment but dang, it’s impressive, from the graphics to the sound to the sheer amount of content and the always addictive online leaderboards it’s simply fantastic ..

I don't think it's a controversial opinion at all. No other rally game can touch it for content and variety, but, it also backs it up with a solid driving model and features no other rally game has had.

For me personally, it's not only the greatest rally game ever made, but it's up there as one of the best racing games ever made.

For a long time I think I'd have disagreed with that - DiRT Rally 2.0 was my favourite. And I still think it's quite close between them in some ways, there's still nothing quite like splashing through Sweet Lamb in DR2.0. [Hint-Codemasters-give us Wales, please]. But increasingly I think EA WRC is simply the rally fan's dream game. So, so much content. So many cars, basically 85% of the iconic cars of WRC history and so many welcome niche ones too like the Cordoba, Nova, 309, Fabia....jump in, recreate anything you want and most importantly do it with a really strong, consistent driving model, challenging AI, a great damage model, beautifully modelled stages and so many locations - convincingly recreate any era, any season.

Rally games are instantly at an advantage over traditional racers on that in that if you wanted to recreate the 1999 F1 season you'd need the whole grid - in rallying just give me McRae's Focus, take me to New Zealand and there you go. The ultimate sandbox experience. I bloody love it and in some ways I find it a bit daunting because there are just endless possibilities.I've poured hours into the livery editor and might post some of them because I haven't for ages - spend the time and you can make them really convincing (and I'm really a stickler for authenticity so if they're good enough to satisfy me they must be reasonably okay). Not a patch on Tool's though, some of those are truly insane the attention to detail.

Long story short, I've been as frustrated with this game at times as anybody but right now I accept it's absolutely mighty and so cheap on sale I really feel like everyone should give it a try.

The only thing I miss from DR 2.0 is Phil Mills as co-driver with the proper motion rig pacenotes. It was so damn good.

Well, and Wales.
Give me Wales, Scotland, Phil and Te Awanga and I can die happy.

While playing this game earlier I realized there are stages I've never driven in certain seasons, so it always feels like a surprise. I wondered how many unique combinations I can play if I used each car for each rally if the season/stage/weather/time were different each time.

I came up with ~6,915,600 combinations.*

*Super rough and quick math here, I realize locations such as Sweden only have one season and I don't think the weather conditions or time of day are consistent across all seasons. Also, some rallies have 18 stages rather than 12 so I did my best to factor this all in.

It seems high! I am not a math guy (and this post can certainly show that), but even if you took the same number of seasons and stages across all rallies you get near that number, assuming I do the math right. Bottom line, there are lots of ways to experience the game.

Codies choosing not to randomise stages during the official career mode seems like a missed opportunity to me, as is the lack of option for having different career saves. The latter would help eliminate the "blind alleys" of choosing the wrong tyres or teammate.

As long as the randomising didn't take season in to consideration as it should still be realistic to when the rally is run on the calendar.

I think I'd actually rather see a 'realistic' calendar option for career and championship modes. Like what WRC Generations had, with 15+ stages per event. But done properly, like they run the Umea sprint 3 times in the dark in Sweden within the 18 stages run. Would make it much more immersive in my opinion if they followed the real rally itineraries in a realistic or immersive career option.

They'd have to fix the tyre allocations as well.

I would absolutely love to be able to play Sweden and Scandia in summer months without snow. Scandia especially, because its such a technical event - narrow, twisty...being able to play that without snow would go some way to making up for the continued lack of Rally GB.
