Why not? If anything other than to trump Microsoft and Forza 3 - that's 2 GT games in the same year!

I can see the headlines now:

"A double-dose of Gran Turismo in 2009! Gran Turismo 5 AND Gran Turismo Mobile out before Christmas!!!!!"

Or something like that.

Because most people would chose gt5 over gt mobile if they had a choice. If PD releases too much info on gt5 then most consumers will pass up the portable version. Sony does not want to steal the thunder of the launch of PSP Go! PD and Sony want to capitalize on both games.. Besides, the market is already going to be flooded with racing sims this year.

I still think that they will both be released this year but obviously not together, or too close to each other. The only way a simutaneous release would work is if they truley complimented each other. -This remains to be seen.

All I'm talking about is withholding information until the mobile platform is launched.

One thing I don't get. IF the game is near completion why oh why don't they let us see one screenshot one gameplay video one hint of what the hell are we really going to spend our money for. The trailer at E3 was fine, but that is now long in the past and since then we've had not a single shred of evidence that GT5 even exists. Sony are too busy selling their PSP GO AWAY, And Kaz is not helping with his "badly translated interviews" Its done, its ready, its coming. When what how who where................?????????????????????!

Oddly, I'm not disappointed at all because in the absence of any official line saying "GT5 will be mentioned here and then", I haven't built up any expectations.

Blame them for failing to meet your expectations when they've done something to build them up. If they haven't, blame yourself.


Take the release date GTPlanet has got hold of. We've done our best to verify it and, frankly, we're pretty damn happy that it's real. But we're not about to pass it onto you until there's official word from Sony.

Imagine though that we did anyway and it didn't happen - it'd be our fault for building up your expectations. Which is why we aren't - it'd be very easy to get carried away in releasing it exclusively to the world, but then we'd be held accountable for any "mishaps".

Nevertheless, it's true and reveals that, at least, the game actually has a release date.

To be honest I would like any release date of GT5 that actually ends up with the game in my hands.

My guess is that nothing is supposed to overshadow the "main-event" at a conference like that. At E3 that was the PSP Go & Gran Turismo Mobile, and now at games com, it was the PS3 Slim with the price cut.

From a marketing point of view, this makes sense. How should they have presented it? If GT5 came first, noone would have listened anymore. "What? PS3 Slim? Big deal!" If they had presented afterwards, noone would have remembered the PS3 Slim anymore. So they had to separate the 2 events. If they are going to wait until TGS...we'll see.

Of course, Sony is in a bit of a dilemma here. By leaving the field to Forza (for the time being), they are risking to lose racing fans thinking about buying a console to the XBox. A little more information would make it a lot harder for those gamers to pick the one choice that they actually know something about. It could be though, that they simply estimated the impact of a 25% price cut for the hardware as being higher than the absence of information for the racing gamers. Personally, I think they could have satisfied both needs better, but it wouldn't be the first time the bean counters decided the course of action.
