I am with you guys. I built a base of operations on my island in a steel/concrete combination. The additions that came with this DLC are amazing with my personal favorite being the concrete.

Watching the trailer, some of those traps belong in the parking garage with the green door between the hospital and the department store (if you've been there, you know where I'm talking about).

That's exactly what came to my mind when I saw them. Now I gotta say, I'm inspired to make one like that. Don't have a place in mind yet, as I've already filled Starlight Drive-In and already have plans for Spectacle Island.

Abernathy Farm has a nice big space that you could use.

Regarding my earlier problem with the beasties getting killed by the settlers... I built the Beta Wave Emitter thing (didn't have the correct perks before), it stops them being seen as hostile, the explanation on the dooberry doesn't quite read that way.

Now I have a tame Deathclaw wandering about. I had two, but one suffered from a bout of death.

Concrete a la brutalism. And a cat.

Any word yet on how big the Far Harbour download will be? I know that the release is still a month away, but I need to start planning ahead given that I'm on a pre-paid wireless device.

No word yet, but if it's apparently much bigger than Fallout 3's Point Lookout, then I guess anything above that is a good point of reference.

There was a lot of asset recycling though, iirc. That's why I wouldn't like to even hazard a guess for Far Harbor, especially with the seemingly resource-heavy Wasteland Workshop only weighing in at 100Mb.
Well, I'm mostly concerned that it's going to be several gigabytes. I'm on a pre-paid mobile broadband plan because I can't get a dedicated internet connection; my apartment block was renovated a few years ago to add another floor, but they didn't add extra broadband infrastructure. There are twenty apartments, but only sixteen outlets, so I'm on pre-paid until a port becomes available. And it can get expensive quickly - $50 for four gigabytes, when I could get unlimited downloads for $70/month with a dedicated connection.

I got a solid two hours to myself Saturday night and spent it in the Glowing Sea. I didn't stay too long or stray from my objective but it was certainly a scary place.

I spoke to Virgil and got my next mission to kill the Courser at the CIT Ruins. Danse and I took out some legendary radscorpions and mole rats and one was kind enough to drop a 2 shot hunting rifle. I turned it into my new sniper rifle and it is awesome. The single shot does 150+ damage so with my level 3 Rifleman it basically one-shot-kills anything not legendary. Danse and I also cleared out Back Street Apparel again, this time for Haylen and some easy XP.

The Ruins weren't far from Back Street Apparel, so Danse and I hoofed it over the bridge. The Wreck of the USS Riptide had repopulated so we cleared that out again. Once at the ruins, I had to track the Courser signal with the Pip-Boy which lead to Greenetech Genetics. I made it up to about the 3rd floor but the baby woke up so I had to end there.

While I was modding the 2x hunting rifle I got a "Preston Idolizes You" message. I'm going to switch back to him next and try to get his perk. He keeps asking me to clear out the Castle so I guess I will oblige and do that next to finally finish at least one companion. How much more swooning is needed after a companion idolizes you?

That's it. You should get a conversation with them to finish off their story arc. If it doesn't trigger straight away, the companion should ask if you have a moment. You don't need to retake the Castle to earn Preston's perk. There's only one companion who requires a major story quest to be finished to unlock their perk:
Paladin Danse.
But be careful - if you become enemies with the Brotherhood, unlocking Danse's perk become impossible.

I got some time in Tuesday night and completed the Hunter/Hunted mission. Danse and I traveled back to Santuary following this and I decided I was going to switch to Preston in order to get his perk.

So I dismiss Danse to Oberland Station (because they were under attack) and I walk up to Preston. All he wants to know is if I'm ready to take back the Castle. When I said no or not now, he would ask me to just let him know when I was ready to do it. The only problem was that this was the only dialogue option available. When I said yes, I started the mission to clear the Castle and he said he would meet me there when he was ready. Fine. So I waited a minute or two and went back to ask him to be my companion and he would only keep repeating that he would meet me at the Castle. So with that quest now started and Preston unavailable, I decided to take MacCready with me to help out Oberland. He was saying something through a wall about Goodneighbor so I went to ask him to be my companion and he started this long spiel about how he can trust me and then asked what he should do about those two Gunners. So now I have a mission to do with him at the Mass Pike Interchange.

Once he was done talking, we fast traveled to Oberland Station to make sure we didn't miss out on helping against the raiders. After fending off the attack (with Danse nowhere to be found) we fast traveled to Goodneighbor:

Dr. Amari said she couldn't help with the Courser chip so MacCready and I had to hoof it to the Boston Common Freedom Trail robot tour guide. We eventually made it to the Old North Church and I had to look up how to open the door into the Railroad. I either missed a hint somewhere or I seem to be relying on guides too much because after hearing that all I needed to do was spell out "railroad" I wondered why I couldn't have just tried that in the first place. I guess knowing that I can always find a video showing me how to complete a puzzle makes me not pay attention to all the small details anymore. This is one of the few times I have needed to look up something for this game though.

So after getting into the Railroad, Desdemona analyzed the chip and gave me the code. Deacon asked for my help with something as well so I now have what feels like 6 people waiting for me to arrive and then attack something. To say my character is over-extended would be an understatement. I probably have more open quests now than ones I have closed.

I am up to level 35 now and just increased my Agility enough to unlock the Ninja perk. On my next playthrough, on extreme survival, I am going to completely focus on Perception and Agility. The Rifleman and Gunslinger perks are essential, as well as the increase in AP that high agility brings due to the new hydration/fatigue factor. Being able to sneak more effectively will also be key.

Charisma seems to only be of use in dialogue and trading and I rarely ever trade anything. I am tempted to do a max Charisma/Luck character to turn animals on people and to hold people up and make them drop their weapons, but that's more of a gimmick and would not work out on the extreme survival difficulty setting.

Now that I think on it, you do need to complete that quest to get his perk - but I'm pretty sure that you can unlock it if you take him on as a companion early on. He's a pretty cheap date; everything impresses him.

Deacon is also a companion. You need to complete that quest to unlock him. The Railroad will also have their own set of quests for you to undertake, like "Quartermastery" and "Raider Troubles At (Location X)".

Companions will walk to the place you send them. And they usually take the "most direct" route, which is to say the path with the least obstructions. The quickest way for you to get from Sanctuary to Oberland is via the rail bridge just to the north, but because of the train carriages, companions won't be able to get through. Danse will either go via the bridge east of Beantown Brewery, or loop around to the west through Forest Grove Marsh, cross the river and then approach Oberland from the south. Companions may also get drawn into fights along the way, which may delay them further, but they will get to where you send them. Eventually.

I've been taking a break from Fallout 4, the last time I played was a little before Automatron was released. I just started playing again, and after the most recent update I seem to be dropping frames way more then I remember. Downtown Boston was always bad, but now it's impossible to go there. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me?

Some new information on possible items, enemies and map sizes have been leaked and/or confirmed for Far Harbour.

Amongst the new inclusions, more workshop items in the form of elevators, barns, decorations and machinery are rumoured for inclusion with Far Harbour, and new enemies like Ghoul Yao Guai's, Ghoul Whales and Giant Squids have been found in the code for the game.

Far Harbour is bigger in terms of map size than the Shivering Isles, making it the largest map expansion Bethesda has ever done. But it's rumoured there is less playable content. Keep in mimd the Shivering Isles had around 24 hours of game play, it will still be pretty big.

I suggest giving the videos below a watch to find out more.

So, has v1.5 - with survivor mode - been released yet? And if so, what's it like?

I've watched a few of these videos which have been pretty good at showing just how hardcore the new survival mode is. This first one is more about the character build but if you want the action just start with episode 2.

The update has not officially been released yet though.

Apologies if the subject has already been covered, this is a long thread after all, but what are folks' thoughts on the season pass ever representing good value? There's going to have to be a lot more stuff than the two packs so far and Far Harbour, unless they are looking to pitch FH as a premium DLC pack and make it way more expensive...

I believe Bethesda have said that they have a lot of DLC planned. So far, they have only released details of Automatron, Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbour. Plus survival mode, but that was a free update (and includes infrastructure needed for Far Harbour). I would expect more, since Fallout 3 had five story-related DLC packages.
