GT's drivers don't have any explicit gender. Isn't it an assumption to say that they're male?

- No women was ever competetiv in F1. No female race driver in this world could match Vettel, Alonso or Hamilton in the same car.

Why? Nonsense.
Also, you talk about the 3-4 "best drivers"..we have only 4 driver in the championship? And the others "non competitive" drivers are female? I don't find someone like, for example, Trulli really feminine....

Under all those overalls the drivers can be female. What's the difference? Besides, women in racing are quite marginal. I wish there were more women in racing though.

I think it's best that PD stays with the non specific gender of the graphics. Male race car drivers are (in the main) on the slight side anyway (due to weight) and so build wise not that much different from women and you can't really see the different lumps and bumps with a racing suit on and you can't see what's behind the visor anyway so it's all pretty much irrelevant.

Geez. I meant current female racing drivers.

And yes, I rate drivers like S. Sarrazin, Lotterer, most F1 drivers (Kobayashi, Kovalainen and Di Resta are great, eventhough their car suck) or great talents like Bianchi higher then the female drivers a guy listed on the last page.

IMO there is no difference in talent between a man and a woman. But there are just so few female drivers compared to male drivers. Can anyone here name me a female driver in a feeder series which destroys the competition like Hamilton did in F3ES/GP2?...

Why? Nonsense.

Learn reading my friend. I only talked about the 3 drivers, who are most generally viewed as the best current F1 drivers. We can talk about IRL too. Dario Franchitti is head and shoulders above Danica Patrick...

Perhaps, but your lucky it was the latter who phoned SI back. Or FHM. Or GoDaddy. And in some sense, Playboy.

And not sure you would call it a feeder series, as its the top, but Ashley Force is quite the wheeler. Straight line or not she's good at what she does in a couple different series, and she even learned from arguably the best. So maybe that's the thing... you either have to have great connections or of course, be born into it. Otherwise your looking at a long climb to get yourself into a Hamiltonesque ride.

Also not sure if its posted in here yet, but Top Gear talked (or mocked) this subject some time ago...

I know, but i mean, it's not only a matter of beating the best, you can go there and be a good driver even if you can't reach hamilton etc, understand?
Because if it was like that we can't have 24 drivers lol
She's not incredible i know LOL but we can't think that way using only one example..and we don't have enough example because the number of female drivers isn't really high, too.
Anyway, you're talking about current drivers, so... yes, you're right in this case.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I agree with some of you here it would be great if more women took a interest to racing and we got to see more of them. Considering the fact that there is only a few female race drivers there is not going to be many variables in each ones position in skill etc. However if we had hundreds of female drivers as said before there would be some that lag behind some that keep middle ground and some at the top.

Interesting thing happened last night...

You know how a video/scene of some sort starts if you remain on the main screen? Well I had one of my driver and his F40 in the garage, at an unknown track. It was pretty neat actually... the mechanics working about, a guy with a camera taking snapshots, and my driver was observing from the bay door pacing back and forth. But here's the thing, in the back & off to the side, were two engineers talking with what I'm now 99.9% sure was a blonde female. Short ponytail and tight jeans even, which got me a thinking...

Joking about Miss Schmitz above, what are the chances that garage scene was at Nurburgring? Not sure if she's even represented in the game (outside of the billboard), but perhaps its one of those see-me-if-you-can type of things.Tried to snap a pic with my phone, but thanks to its delay the video moved on and I captured the cameraman to her left

This is a battle nobody and even more importantly no women actually care about.

Anyway as said before there is no way of telling if the drivers in GT5 are female or not which is probably a move by PD to avoid idiotic arguments like this, if you are going down the road of "we must add females and males" then why not ad trans-gender and hermaphrodites ?

If you're saying the drivers in GT5 are 'unisex' you might watch the replays in the interior, there are no female 'contours' to be seen and the facial features you glimpse by looking through the visors are also clearly male.
Adding trans gender would be covered by either male or female (given that the operation went succesful) and hermaphrodites are clearly between operations and are probably covered by the female option (and the use of a little imagination).

I agree with this statement. If some wants to portray themselves as a female driver just dress in a suedo female color (ie. pink), it's as simple as that. Personally I wouldn't wear pink to save my life and have far too many pink racing suits and helmets. If their are any female GT5 players out there, they're welcome to have them.

"female contours" are not always visible when wearing clothing, there is such a thing as a flat chested woman. And as for the visor thing then who is to say its not an ugly woman - DO NOT always assume all women are attractive.

I think you will find that a hermaphrodite is a person born with both male and female reproductive organs making them both male and female.

Yep, you're right, confused it with something else (....), still it would be covered by either male or female.
Although I have to say this is getting increasingly ridiculous, I don't mind and would actually support a female option if they implemented it but it's largely a non-issue since it would require a lot more than simply adding another body shape (as someone explained in another post) for what simply is an avatar in a driving game, nothing more.
The recent addition of driving gear (which I applaud by the way) perhaps made this topic appear once again (it's been debated before) and put the attention back to the driver model.
I bet most female players would prefer more Premium cars and more tracks, etc. before an avatar representing them more accurately, since driving cars in a videogame is what attracted them to GT5 in the first place.

Don't care either. But I do have a question for the females on the forums. Who would be interested in sharing PSN codes ? Been looking to b-spec race all the females to the top. Tried to set up a thread about it, but it got closed earlier today.

Maybe the driver under that suit IS female. None of us know that or not. It's whatever you want it to be. But honestly? Who cares...it doesn't effect the game play. And no, this is not an equality issue. The driver is unisex. It's not like you can see a bulging package or anything. I think trivializing the game by putting in a "boob option" would be misuse of their resources. ( as are the horns, paint chips, suits and helmets are already). Instead they should have focused on not ruining so many cars.
And a far as Danica Patrick being a "great" driver is BS. she is average to mediocre, at best. She's never won a race...ever. Shea a big deal cuz she's hot. Nothing more. Saying she's a" great driver" Is saying you mean she a great "female driver". You qualifying that fact alone is sexist it categorizes and trivializes her more than anything else. Yer either a good driver or yer not. Not a good "woman" driver, or a good "black" driver or whatever. Judge folks on what they've done, not who they are. Classification of people is where racism and sexism starts. Politicians have been doing it since the 30's. It creates tension and in-fighting.
Kaz chose to keep the drivers ambiguous looking for a reason. The more generic the better. Whew!!! I'm done. Sorry people.

Wrong, she has won a race before.

Wrong, she has won a race before.

She won an Indy race? U sure about that? Cuz she's doing horrible in NASCAR. Not that I care about NASCAR cuz I don't. But the fact that THAT was the only fault u could find in my argument proves my statement true. Sans the technical error I have to assume my point has been taken? Judge people on merit, not their merit included with a qualifier. that makes it worse.

Well, I'll agree that the drivers are supposed to look generic and basic. However, I absolutely can't stand Danica Patrick, but she's still pretty talented, and would have won quite a few other races if not for car trouble. She has lots of top tens and she won an Indy race at Motegi....that's only average at best?
