...The whole Historic Racing Car trinity is a joke to me, look - XJ13 never raced, 330 lost, GT40 Mk IV won, and the most famous GT40 (Mk II) is standard.
How can XJ13 and 330 be historic when they haven't won anything? They become history.
End of.
End of what?

You're wrong about the 330 P4 - it was a winning car, and very much a historic one.

The 330 P4 won with a 1st and 2nd at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona. It won the 1967 Monza 1000 Kilometers. It also got a respectable 2nd and 3rd in the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans (behind a MK IV).

The Mk IV won the 1967 12 Hours of Sebring and the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, overpowering the competition with its 7 liter engine.

Incorrect

The 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 won the World Constructors Championship

...and is the funnest of the 3 to drive in GT5

Go for the Ford. You can use this car in the American Championship as well.

I would blow 20 million on the Ford Mark IV just for it's engine sound

That too, eh? :D

Well, I think Yev just don't like it, he has described it as a loser in this thread too - not very good lecturing on historic racing :sly:

Definitely one of the more entertaining ones 👍

I would recommend taking the time and completing the Indianapolis 500 endurance race, and getting the XJ-13, to anyone who would listen.

It's difficult to explain how much fun that car is to drive.

I have spent entire nights just doing endless laps around Le Sarthe, which is especially fun with weather and time change. Not winning any money. Not getting any experience points. Just driving that Jaguar around and around that track with a big grin chiseled on my face.

As for the Mark IV, or Ferrari 330, question, I can't comment because I'm grinding my way towards 20 million myself and will also have to make the decision soon. I'll probably be going for the Ford, only because I have a soft spot for American cars, but if either of them is as fun to drive as the XJ-13, then you'll be happy either way.

The Ford is definitely more useful.. it will hold its own in a B Spec american championship grind on Indy once u coach your driver into the lead pack.. one of my Level 14s took on a pair of Spec IIs and a standard GT LM in a great battle for the lead.. and beat them

I do not see where the hate for the standard GT40 comes from however, i acquired one of those the other day off a 1000 ticket and i enjoy it just as much as the Mark IV (before you say anything.. yes i know you can win this on B spec Indy.. but this particular 1000 ticket i reloaded i dont even remember how many times and it kept spitting me junk, so when i got the GT40, i just kept it)

I thinks some people are just confused as to why it isn't a Premium. I know i am. It's as close to an icon in auto racing as you can find and would be amazing to sit behind the cockpit of one... even a virtual cockpit.

yeah that and the REAL R8 both should be premium, both are legendary in their own right.. and the R8 kept on fighting until the very end, i bet if an unrestricted R8 went up against an R18 or 908 today it would destroy both cars

The sound is great on it. It's a shame it's a standard though, you would have thought the MKIV's interior could've been adapted.

i faced the same question the other day and asked my mate! i ended up buying the MKIV...cant really say i brought the wrong car because i havent really driven the Ferrari (apart from the licenses) but i can say the the MKIV is a really good all-rounder!

i like using mine for drifting...!

We got what we got.. lets just hope that standard to premium package is true because the car is as useful as the Mark IV and quicker down low thanks to the 5 speed tranny.. the Mark IV takes a bit longer to get going.. but once it hits that sweetspot in gear 3, it takes off..

The hate for the standard GT40 Race Car '69 comes from people's disappointment at its performance.

It's the "bugged" performance. It was a breeze and much easier to drive in GT4 but apparently the copy/pasting screwed it up.

If anyone hasn't noticed it yet, drive an 06 premium Ford GT, then drive either of the 05 GT standards. Noticable difference. Then try an 02 Ford GT, car is a -handful- to keep on the road. It behaves like it has double the RWT of the '06 when it's nearly the same. It's a shame cause the 02 Ford GT is one of the top 5 best sounding cars in the game (totally different sound from any other GT in the game, it sounds like a real life 427 GT40), but its too much of a difference in driving style to babysit on a course compared to the 06 GT.

Same thing with the Ford GT LM vs the "Spec II" and "Test" versions, big differences in the Gulf car vs the other 2, which are essentially the same car to start with.

The Mark IV for me :)

Awesome car, it looks great, handles like a dream, has a great top speed and has a good acceleration despite it's 4 gear trany :)

Definitely the Ford. Great car

MK IV because it's a monster, like the Shelby Cobra 427, so I would bet it would be the funnest to drive (regardless of handling capability). And the Ferrari 330 P4 was used to cheat with by Ferrari Enzo

330 is faster, Mk IV is better handling, guess you have to chose which characteristic you prefer. I couldn't make my mind up so have bought both but got the 330 first. :D

Wow this thread is old.

Entirely dependent on the driver, some go faster in the Ferrari, some in the Ford. Unless you mean in a drag race (standing start), where the Ferrari will win due to 5 speed.

I just bought the '69 GT40 last night

Love the look of it :)

Can't say I've bought either of these cars. I have won the XJ13 though...

Oh, and RikBiel, welcome to :gtpflag:!

Having run championships with these cars:

Ford - easier to handle more downforce, glued to ground but whilst weight means it can be a little lazy to react, it stays glued. Good for all drivers.

Ferrari - it's like a dance. Super nimble but requires a lot of fine tuning. Pretty much you can either drive this car or not. If you can you will be faster than nearly any Ford. If not, you will be way slower.

i think you should buy the ferrari, and this is why.

Its a Ferrari.
its WAY better looking
its WAY more fun to drive
it ISN'T a ford
i haven't found a ford online capable of keeping up
its a Ferrari
its NOT ugly
interior view is AWESOME
its NOT a ford
it IS a Ferrari

and if your still having trouble deciding.

just go buy a bunch of corvettes just to spite ford because they suck anyway.

i hope you considered this helpful and i am glad you took the time to read this

ps: i have yet to own a single ford. i almost broke and purchased a spec II. but then i regained my senses and stopped myself from making a horrible decision.

Get this one.

Then get this one. After some suspension adjustments, it's terrific. This car did things no other car has... Shame it's a Standard, but I don't drive them for looks only.

You could always go for the XJ13. It's heart-achingly gorgeous. I am absolutely in love with that car...

You're way too Ferrari biased. I've driven both, but it takes less work to tune the MkIV than the P4. I'm Ford biased, actually.Actually, the GT40 humiliated Ferrari in LeMans years ago.
