Which makes me wonder if Ford will put the EcoBoost six in the Mustang at all.

I'm guessing not. It would seem easier for them to do an EcoBoost I4 with something in the neighborhood of 300 BHP, and a V8 in excess of 400 BHP. If their main concern is going to be fuel economy, having an extra V6 in there might be overkill. But, I'm sure they'll offer some kind of V6 option.

V6TT = new SVO.

Price it at around $32-34k and make 375hp or so. Better suspension (IRS retrofit a la 99-04 Cobra?), etc.

Also, does anybody foresee a problem if they offer the EcoBoost V6 at 365 hp, a 5.0L GT with 385 hp and something with potentially 400 hp? You don't need three engines within 40 hp of each other.
Yes. I'd like to see a lineup of an EcoBoost 4, with at least 250 hp, and EcoBoost 6, with the usual 350 or so, and the 5.0, at about 400.

Actually, I see the TTV6 as a more luxurious engine than the V8. I can definitely imagine it being quieter on the inside and out than the V8. And amazingly the TTV6 is putting down some tremendous power curves, so it'll probably be smoother than the V8, too. Most likely more fuel efficient. Think the V8 could be the ground-pounder and the the TTV6 could be the upscale "oooh nice leather Mustang" engine?

But of course the TTV6 may have to be cheaper than the V8 to coax anyone into buying it, even besides its benefits. But at least Ford knows that I would prefer a TTV6 in my Mustang, just because it's cool and I can make it go "psshh".

EDIT: Or, like Rotary Junkie suggested, make the TTV6 car be the one that goes around corners and stuff.

I'd expect 450-500 horses with the V6TT. Hyundai's Lambda is doing 500 with a turbo, and the GT-R's V6TT does it too. I don't know why they'd have it along a 500hp V8 though.

Sadly, at least now, that would still command more moneys than that. The other cars in fords lineup with Ecoboost so far carry a ~$6k premium over the non EB ones.

From what the press and owners have said, the new Mustang handles better than anything with a live ass has a right to. It doesn't need IRS to be competitive.

And, you can't retrofit any suspension parts from a SN95 to a S197 :sly:

Ford won't do a 500hp GT because the gas mileage wouldn't be good enough for CAFE and what not. The EBV6 is still looking to slot in under the new 5.0 which I've read on a mustang forum to be anywhere from 340 to ~400hp. The EBv6 won't be top dog in the engines, at least for the 2nd gen S197s. After that is fair game and in the air.

Also, there has been zero talk from anyone with an inside source about a EBI4. Just sayin'

I don't mean this to sound like I'm correcting anyone. Just stating other things I've read from another Mustang forum

I didn't mean using SN95 IRS under an S197, I meant designing a new IRS specifically for the S197 (already done btw) and "retrofitting" it to the current chassis. ;)

Also the IRS setup would keep the nose-in-the-air, nothing-with-pushrods-or-live-axles-will-ever-be-good types at bay sooo...

Meethinks that could be due in part to GM reportedly killing the turbo Camaro, at least for now. Still, in either car, it would be a helluva lot of fun to have one of those setups out front with a nicely tightened suspension.

Are there any plans to un-retrofy the interior? I would love the Mustang if it wasn't for the ugly vintage-looking numbering and gauge arrangements.

I felt like it was less-retro than its predecessor, taking more bits and pieces from its Fusion cousin than before. I didn't get a good look at the gauges, but I imagine they're a bit easier to read, as they looked bigger than before.

Does this help?

Loving the 5.0 news! The 5.0 badge definitely brings back memories.

I can haz 5.0 for my Interceptor?

I don't mind the tachometer so much but that speedo is definitely too small for me. I like 5mph intervals.

I also don't like how the GT's speedo only reads up to 140mph. Just doesn't seem right to me.

I saw my first 2010 Mustang--a V6 convertible and my god was it gorgeous in person. I mean honestly, it was just jaw droppingly beautiful.

5.0 confirmed, in case anyone was actually wondering.

I foresee a lineup like so:

Base 3.5L V6
Ecoboost V6
GT with 385hp 5.0
Bullit/Mach 1/whatever special edition they want to release with 400hp.

Thank god there is confirmation of the 5.0 return. I am now settled on getting a new 5.0 Mustang.

It almost makes you wonder what the point of the GT500 is.

^ That.

Offtopic: Epic avatar you have there.

I personally love that cluster, and it is even more awsome with the color choices.

I only see 120 on that dial there. ;)

That's the V6 cluster. ;)

On one hand, it's nice the Mustang is about to get thoroughly awesome, on the other, it will be killing the Camaro with this 5.0L, or at least one would think. This could also be a window for the V8 Falcons to catch up to V8 Commodores, we'll see.......

Indeed. If it does get 400hp that'll make it what? 300lbs less than the Camaro and only 26hp down? Awesomness.

Will a LRA handle that power is another question I suppose, but it probably will. Yes, GM is taking a lot of things sitting down lately, they don't have the cash to take the fight back to the Mustang. In that sense, it's sort of an unfair fight.

Will an LRA handle 400hp?

Seriously? Seriously?

Of course it will; the entire arguement for the LRA is cost effectiveness and STRENGTH. It takes a lot more to build an IRS setup that will handle big power than it does to do the same with a live axle.

You only just saw your first 2010 JCE? I figured they would be everywhere down their... I've seen enough of them now, I don't even double check to see if its a 2010.

I know, I thought I'd see one a week here but surprisingly there are alot of 2009 Mustangs still be sold with the leftover inventory. I give it 2-3 months before the '10's are everywhere. :D

I saw a couple at the Chicago Auto Show. They look amazing in person. I've only seen one here in Seattle, and I'm not even sure if it was one because I was driving the opposite direction on the freeway and wasn't really able to check it out. The Ford dealer in my town does have a couple though.

Agreed 100 million percent. I really think the Mustang has needed a nice suspension package to shut some people up. The track pack on these news ones is a great. Imagine after Roush gets a hold of a Track Pack'd 2010. I believe they are the tuner that converts the Mustangs to IRS. That would be killer! 👍

As the self proclaimed Mustang enthusiast of this board, even I have yet to see a '10. There is a nice '03 Mystic Cobra around here though

They've got two 2010s at Fox Ford here in Grand Rapids, so far, the only two I've seen. Both are fully-loaded GTs, one a drop top, the other a coupe. These douchebags always do that, and it drives me crazy. Complain about how you're not selling any cars, but bring in $32K Mustangs with slushboxes that no one in their right mind will want.

My dealer shows a V6 & 3 GT's(1 convertible). Just one GT has a stick. Wow. Really?

The GT with a stick is one good car. I'd invite any good sport coupe lover to drive one, they are pretty damn quick for what should be an underpowered car. Just remember the clutch is brutal, the pedal travel is very short before you need to give it some revs.

I still don't get why the mustang is still rocking a 5spd stick when all of its rivals have 6spd transmissions.

Cost effectiveness probably.

Six speed is a gimmick. It just allows you to either pack an ultra-long 6th gear (EDIT: Like Jim says), or have ridiculously tight gearing.

For a torquey motor like the 4.6, tight gearing and frequent gearshifts are just a waste of time.

But then, I'm a throwback... I think 6 speeds only make sense on diesels (narrow powerband... need all the help they can get), as I find the 6th gear doesn't really add to the enjoyment of a sportscar on the track.
