My only gripe with the demo so far (steering assist aside): I don't like making my way through the whole pack in two laps. It just promotes unclean racing. Having to go through 10 (or so) opponents in a rough four minutes sure is challenging, but I do wish that the AI was faster.

I mean, it's not easy to snag a win, but that's because I have to weave through so much traffic, not because the AI is actually fast. Granted, it seems a bit faster than in FM3, but I still feel a bit more speed wouldn't hurt. After all, I'm an average driver at best...

I found that they are pretty fast (or at least the guy in first) if you put it on professional (or whatever the hardest setting is).

Funny thing is, after I did each of the normal races once, I got bored and left the demo. Then I remembered Rivals mode, started it back up and went for a solid hour in the Zonda. So later when I've got time I'm going back to the Zonda and I will keep going until I'm at the top of my friends list. I'm currently .002 seconds from 1st.

I just added another couple tenths to that gap during my lunch break. :p

Sorry my competitive nature got the best of me. :) Im also trying to catch PzR Slim (which is the only guy in front of me in my friends list.) which is just another tenth in front still. I'll get it later. I had him one lap until I pushed just a little too hard on the last corner as I was starting to pass his ghost.

Best sim on consoles right now but it was never going to be a proper sim like iRacing and the likes.

Thank god GT and Forza are not like iRacing... I don't have that kind of time, interest, or money to put into gaming. I am NOT implying that iRacing is a bad game in any way. Just not for me - GT and Forza offer a more well rounded and affordable virtual racing experience.

I really like the demo, my only gripes are the (plenty mentioned) assist and the damage. I hope both are changed in the retail version.

Oh, I also wish the AI in rivals mode would at least make an attempt to move out of the way if you are way faster than them.

We can discuss about *torque aligment* until FM5, but it srill does not change one small detail:

Invisible force of magical salvation countersteer in 900 mode where you just can't spin the MR monster such as F458 untill you really push the central mass out of the balance.

And that is not torque aligment, it is deliberate and permanent physics mechanic that restricts the lateral distribution of load in order to compensate for increased movment of the chasis/suspension and loss of grip. Said shorter, it is a steering buffer. Again.

Whatever.

I'm not quite sure about the "speed sensitive assist", but I can confirm the "counter-steering assist" is still there. Way to go Turn10 !

Driving is still a blast though, and THAT's saying something.

Edit : Looks like Turn10 didn't learn from the Che Chou affair after all ...

Stop trying to explain away the steering assist as anything but a steering assist. It is not 'aligning torque' that makes 90 degrees of input magically equal to 450. It is not 'differential snapping' that suddenly changes the angle of the front wheels irrespective to your steering input. Dan lied to us when he announced sim steering and he lied to me again on Facebook when he told me it was 100% unassisted.

Well, to help out buttsneeze in his quest for no assists I have spammed FM.net, Forza's facebook, and Dan Greenawalt's facebook. Lol.

It goes without saying that the more vocal we are about this the more attention they will give it.

So, anyone who has access to said media outlets please voice your opinion.

If you are reffering to my post, just notice I agree with you.

There is a steering assist, it is permanent, it is clearly implemented and it exists despite all announcements and such.

Crazy stuff, they haven't learned a thing.

I have watched videos of the 'assist' and to me it just looks like the speed sensitive steering changes to 1 to 1 as the car is sliding to give the driver more of a chance to catch it.

I.E in the video with the chap on the 900 Fanatec wheel, he deliberately spins the car, you can see the wheel on screen jerk round to where it would be if the steering was 1-1 as it spins, then go back to where it was due to the speed he was travelling at as he comes out of the spin.

I would say it's not really an assist, more just an attempt to give drivers more of an opportunity to tame wayward cars by offering more lock than the speed sensitive steering would usually supply. Which is handy. I don't think it's a dirty physics trick, like GT5s skid recovery force. (not a Vs. thread, just using it as an example)

One race down. Don't think the physics feel much different at all and the cars look all too familiar.....BUT.

I want it now!

It really amaze me. They go to such lengths to make such a good game and a great sim and they spoil everything with a permanent assist. Makes no sense.

Edit : I mean, it's like they didn't want their game to be too perfect  :scared:

Not sure why so many people are up in arms.

We did play the demo right? I am going to wait 1 week till I can play the full game version, then cry and moan about something.

Are we 100%, without a doubt, positive this isnt a demo thing?

Well, Dan said so. Of course, this is the same Dan that lied to us in the first place

I think the VVV team have review copies and they confirm it's present in the retail game (well, on the review copies anyway).

Edit : Blah, going to sleep. 'night everyone.

That's why I got rid of Forza 3, and will now hold off on purchasing Forza 4.

Shame really.

Any comment on this? Chances are it's NOT an assist, and is simply a symptom of the game running two steering ratios side by side, a variable speed sensitive ratio and a 1-1 direct ratio for oversteer/opposite lock situations.

I don't mean this in a bad way but I think you guys are nuts.

Power Steering is a form of steering assist. My car also has TCS and ABS standard from the manufacturer. Does that make my car less of a sim ?

Good luck being competitive on track.

The fact you can get a car out of shape using sim steering on a pad and having it get away from you is a very nice change for us pad users. It feels so good on a pad that I really don't see any point in investing in a wheel.

As the person who made the video I agree with this.

There are times when it get's confused, primarily when pulling away from a stop and the rear starts to crabwalk. You can see the telemetry and the front wheels go nuts jumping back and forth between the 2.

I don't think it's so much of an assist as it switching to another ratio. The issue is that this switch makes it REALLY EASY to catch oversteer.

Well really easy for someone who's been simracing for 8 years or so.

So reading between the lines, looking at screens and vids, as far as I can tell, no part of it, except the sound, is better than GT? I'm disappointed with the look of the damage, it looks about as good (bad) as GT's with an added ridiculous looking paint stripper.

I'm trying to work out if it's worth the £700+ investment for a 360, the game, wheel and pedals. I can't think of another game I'm remotely interested in on xbox and I don't think this one gets close to justifying the investment?

The series has amongst the most depth of any game on console. Yeah the damage looks worse with regards to the paint-stripper sure, but the handling feel is great and best of all, consistent. I'd say it's good enough to not need a wheel, but if you're into that, then my opinion won't sway it for you.

I don't see what the big fuss is all about when this is only a DEMO. Until we get the final build of the game in hand why complain about the steering assist etc. I really like the way the game feels and i am glad that they have the steering as is. Not everyone is an advanced driver and what they are attempting to do is make it accessible to everyone from the advanced driver down to the guy who is just getting into the scene. I really feel the difference in the tire physics as the tires seem to have a higher level of grip before grip is lost vs forza 3. With everything said these cars have the stock tires so i can't wait to see what the aftermarket tire and tuning options have the cars feeling like.

Certainly not worth 700 pounds mate. Book a holiday.

I drove external cam and the wheels are clearly visible doing there own thing. A bit like Herbie.

Tried the normal steering and TBH I couldn't tell one iota of difference.

I predict head tracking will suck too.
They would definitely have added kinect to the demo if it was good.

Biggest disappointment since dirt 3.

For me its a game, its purpose is to entertain me.
Is it nice looking, visually impressive, does the sound immerse me, is the handling fun and can the game offer a level of challenge and required skill set?

I dont expect or really believe a console game will ever offer the levels of sim perfection some people on these forums seem to expect. Gees just go out and play enjoy the damn game why the need to analyse it in such detail. Of course its going to have issues and faults particulary if people go out looking for them.

Maybe I should come round some of your houses and when you crash I smash you over the head with a local telephone directory just for added simulation. :)

Amen to you brother *high five*.

This is a lot of fun, really looking forward to the full game, just need to invest in a Fanatec.

I had you in my sights for the Ferrari Rivals and was about to get you then some dummy on a cell phone (had to be) got in my way on the last long sweeper. Made me break my speed WAY down.

I think the main problem for me Mr Latte is the fact the game corrects itself then I'm correcting then the game re corrects and it ends up a vicious circle between me and the game deciding who is going to steer.

Feels really odd.

 I hate those damn AI Sunday drivers. I heard the servers crashed from the FM.net guys. Is that true?

By that logic every game ever made has immensely sucked since there were features in the full game that were missing in the demo.

I swear they could give everyone a gold bar covered in diamonds and dipped in platinum and people would wine they didn't include any silver.

Also, no game ever made is worth $700(at least for me).
