Essay du Le Mans
The wait's almost over for the 2016 24h of Le Mans; only a week before the 60 cars participating in the 84th running of the race will be barreling down the Mulsanne Straight. Amongst them, a squadron of four Ford GTs fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing. The Ford GT is a very different beast from its predecessor - closer in spirit to the original GT40, it's an innovative car powered by the most efficient engine available in Ford's lineup, in this case the Ecoboost V6 that already motivated Daytona Prototypes.
Added just in the nick of time to Forza's lineup of cars, the GT is clearly on a different level than the older GTE cars - much faster and at the same time definitely more planted to the ground, thanks to its cutting-edge aerodynamics and stiff carbon-fiber monocoque chassis. However, in real life the car is yet to prove its full potential - failing to dethrone AF Corse's Ferraris in the WEC, and the works Corvette C7s in the IMSA Sportscar Championship in all but one occasion.
Will the brand-new GT win in its first 24h of Le Mans? The race's long, and it's too soon to tell. But it's only a week before we find out.
