Yes. It will be their showpiece for the new hardware.

Huh, the dates do match. Fall 2017 is FM7 time, holiday 2017 Scorpio time.

Too bad I don't have the money for a 4K 55inch plus TV.

Personally I would be more excited for FH3 at 60fps

Nothing here.

Nothing at all

come on guys its Turn10, people didn't expect forza 5 to be 1080p60fps when they saw the Xbox one specs. If 1 studio can deliver 4K60fps its without a doubt Turn 10. If you compare raw power of scorpio to normal Xbox one its 4.6X times more powerfull.

I speak too much.

Again, PC's that cost upwards of £1200 struggle to do 4k30fps, so what makes you think that the new Xbox will be able to do it?

It doesn't matter who the developers are, unless the Scorpio costs like £1100 at release, I don't see it doing 4k30fps, let alone 4k60fps.

Mid-2016 PCs do. Fall 2017 ones may not. And guess what? Turn 10 is going to optimise the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 out of this game to make sure it's 4K/60. Scorpio should cost no more than $599/Ł499 at launch

It would be the logical step forward for FM7 as I'm sure they will hit technological barriers trying to improve FM6 on Xbox One. Improving FM6 is a necessity if they intend to develop a PC version considerably better than Apex without putting the console version to shame.

I'm sorry, but this is adorable.

PC benchmarks use presets, often 'high' or 'very high' and are never lessened in quality to increase the framerate because it wouldn't provide the intended baseline. I have to say that I'm rather confused by something that you're almost presenting as an uncontested truth. Development doesn't end when a rendered scene doesn't work at a stable refresh rate with bolstering and crisp texture resolutions, you continue to optimize that scene until you find something that's consistent.

Furthermore, for around $1700 you can build a system with a GTX 1080 and that most certainly gives better results than 4K/30fps.

Please, excuse me; I should really stop presenting what I had to say as fact. I don't really know too much about PC's and all, but I always assumed that it would cost a pretty considerable amount of money to get a PC to run 4K/30fps.

Guess I was wrong.

If this were a few years ago it most certainly would have as PC GPU's often shipped with less memory than would be necessary to run a game at that kind of resolution without running two or even three cards in tandem.

It's a very different scene now with single cards outperforming dual setups by around 10-15%, if not more. There are a number of reasons behind the deficit, one of which being optimization for dual card setups not being prioritized as such as small number of users make use of them, but that's neither here nor there.

4K/30 and 4K/60 are in fact very possible, pending the actual hardware specs, all it requires is optimization.

It needs GDDR5X and David Jaffe.

They would probably make it a Scorpio exclusive too.

Let's be real here. Scorpio = Xbox Two.

Phil talks the talk where he says "no xbox left behind" but...

Q: So it sounds like there won't be any games that would ship that would be Scorpio only right?

A: I don't know about that. We'll see. It's up to the game development community.

Shannon Loftis (GM of MS Game Publishing)

So please buy an Xbox One S... granted all good things come to an end but the Xbox wasnt even a 'good thing'...

Microsoft is moving Xbox into the phone/tablet/pc cycle. Basically now there won't be a huge hardware upgrade every 6 years or so, but smaller upgrades every 2 (?) years, and every future console will be backwards compatible.

To be fair to MS, it will be about 4yrs when scorpio releases and obviously they will continue to support xbox one for a long long time.

4yrs? eh. I'm good with it. They were behind the ball from birth and external factors made pushing Xbox One as a primary platform hard.

Din-din-din! Somebody gets it!

Oh, and by the way - Forza Horizon 3 was already running at 4k on Win10 at the E3 stage demo, in case you haven't noticed. It was also running at 1080p with HDR on the One S. The whole "we're running the game on three different platforms at the same time" thing was a demonstration of the new philosophy, according to which "Xbox" is now a gaming-oriented OS (which is only available for certain, Microsoft-produced hardwares) rather than a specific software/hardware set.

That means that the Scorpio won't see a conventional "launch" and, thus, no "launch titles" - although it's not impossible to think that the Scorpio could be launched with an "it's so good it runs Forza Motorsport 7 at 4k 60 fps!" tagline. You will turn your Scorpio and it will look like an Xbox, quack like an Xbox, but just a bit louder.

It's way, way, too early to tell.
nope! in fact I am willing to bet right now that forza 7 will be 4k/60hz locked&vsync'd! oh, and with a full 4k framebuffer of course.

how do I know this, you may ask?

you know who this guy is? I think its turn10's chief architect ;)

Its speculation and its also bad messaging. Again this is shades of 2013.

They are now saying there will be no scorpio specific games. Microsoft want both sides... they want to make sure their 25 mil. Xbox One users arent pissed off and yet they want people to buy Scorpio too.

In the end though, I think its irrelevant to most of us, if they made it Forza 6 at 4k60hz and it still has the same hangups as Forza 6 then it wont make us happy.

Shades of 2013?? Not really. We had two conflicting statements. One from Rod Fergusson, and one from Shannon Loftis, both were very quickly ammended.

The message is simple. Scorpio is a high-end console that will attempt to support native 4k gaming and potentially VR. Spencer had an interview w/Giant Bomb (great interview btw), these were the main points.
  • No Scorpio exclusives
  • Devs can do 4K, dont have to do 4K, can use power in different ways
  • Previous games may see improvement such as dynamic resolution games staying 1080p
  • Games will look different on 1080p screen, full benefit and image fidelity can only be reaped with a 4KTV for 4K games but it's still a viable purchase for 1080p owners
  • Announcement made for the purpose of transparency, consumers can make an educated purchase if they want to buy the lower range but cheaper Xbox One S or the premium and more powerful Scorpio, developers can work out how they want to adapt the hardware
  • Xbox One S will not play games better than the Xbox One
  • Developers must support the Xbox One as well
  • All existing Xbox One accessories will carry over
I'm all for this. I don't think they're going full mobile market with yearly releases; that won't work with consoles (at least for the next decade imo) but they're trying to go beyond generations.

The fact that they had to be amended and you have multiple representatives giving their 2 bits and even Phil Spenser correcting himself is textbook bad messaging.

Let's flip it, it is good messaging?

Mores the point, none of this is set in stone, they can change their mind in those 18 months, I mean its not as if Microsoft do not flip flop on a dime.

Nothing in that above bullet list is set in stone.

Sony played the smart game, they didnt announce anything. Microsoft really should only allow Phil to say anything and whatever he said should be gold. Even their annoncements are filled with FUD but hey, its not like as we didnt expect it from them.

Is it bad messaging? Sure.I never said it wasn't. A few employees made a mistake. It's a long day and there talking to press through out - there's bound to be some sort mix up especially with a console announced essentially 18 months before it's released. To say it's comparable to 2013 is a gross exaggeration of the fact.

Sure MS can change there mind, but the whole point of this announcement is to inform consumers. Phil said it in the GB interview (I urge you to watch, it's a great interview )

I mean they could go back on some of that bullet point list..but that would be counter productive of informing consumers of what is Scorpio now. Wouldn't be a smart move PR wise. I guess time will tell.

1 I guess everybody sees what he wants to see.
2 you are unhappy with forza 6? what are the hangups you wrote?

I'm surprised if 4K gaming really will begin to influence the console market later this year. I opted for a new full HD display back in December. It was obviously cheap compared to 4K displays and I saw no reason to buy something better than supported by my PS4 and Xbox One, which I didn't plan on replacing anytime soon. No regrets, but I didn't see this coming.

I dont think many predicted that ms would bring a console with absolute quadruple power.
Yet they hit three birds with a stone, and maybe thats what pushed them.

Nothing is bad though. Worst case scenario says you are going to get (a) an image downscaled from 4k (better than a-a) and (b) a much better pixel color accuracy (4:4:4 chroma subsampling)

But at what cost? Literally. Sony learnt the hard way with their $599 meme.

I suppose Microsoft have to learn the hard way but hey, they have plenty of money to chase these dreams.

Meh, I bought the PS3 for $700 and left it as decoration for a year, as did a few million.
