Don't think I've seen anyone mention how much the sound of non-player cars has been improved. The car rolling by in the first few seconds of this clip sounds far better than anything I've heard in my hours of casual cruising with friends in FH4. I wonder if things like straight pipes actually have an effect on how far away you can hear other cars in this game.

Gonna have to do some experimenting when the full game launches and I'm on with some friends. Maybe have them get into identical cars with and without mods and take turns revving as I slowly back away, see if the louder car's sound carries farther.

If I'm honest it's going to be difficult to pick only one of those cars, but I'll debate for maybe 2 minutes before picking the Shelby....
I had a chance to see a Shelby Daytona Coupe recently at an auction which really just solidified my love for them. Considering the in-game cost I’ll definitely be grabbing that up for my free pick too!

1929 Mercedes-Benz SSK7,500,000
1930 Bentley 4-1/2 Litre Supercharged4,000,000

Assuming this doesn’t change for release, I know what car I will get from my one-time free autoshow pick that comes with the Welcome Pack. ☺️ Not that cash/cars matters that much, it is Horizon after all where rewards are thrown at the player with every corner he takes. On top of that, it seems Forzaton points carry over from FH4 to FH5 as well. I’ve got over 10K FP over there, that’s over 30 super wheelspins already...

Damn! I see inflation is running rampant in Forza too.

Well, TBH, earning credits way too easy in FH4 and much of it I have not spent after purchasing the houses/castles (And no, there are no castles for sale in Mexico). It would be a worthy challenge to buy one of those classics.

Yeah, for me it's which one can I live without,I've never been a huge fan of American cars..

Why I can't really be bothered to care about the price for the big game vehicles - seems like Playground took notice of people finding little to spend credits on and made at least some effort in making people spend those millions.

Just curious to see how many people think this sounds good? To me it sounds pretty bad. The idle sample is pretty tasty, but everything else is overprocessed and muddy sounding - it's a lot of noise, but it's not particularly good noise. The interior view doesn't even sound like a V8 to me. They've really gone full NFS Shift with the modified cars it seems.

I'm still somewhat optimistic about the stock vehicle sounds (especially as I mostly leave my cars stock in the game) but I'm not feeling these modified ones.

Jakexvx's second video on some engine sounds, and thoughts below in the spoiler tag:

EDIT: Forgot a timestamp. Go to 1:26 for the sounds.

This one is a mixed bag. The EK9 and R32 aren't great, honestly, but they're better than FH4. The Integra is decent and thankfully no longer shares a soundfile with the EK9. The RX8 and 350Z sound pretty good, but they still don't sound exactly right to my ear. The Ferraris and ND Miata are fine. And finally, I think the blobeye Impreza is much better than FH4, and is actually pretty close. Cockpit view sounds pretty dang immersive in all of the cars though.

I can tell they've added some reverb filter for the in-car camera, but the sample mixing for the in-car view sounds wrong almost across the board - the stock RX-7 sounds really wrong in the interior view. The reverb is also maybe a little too generic...it makes everything sound like an echoey, stripped out racecar. The effects in general are over the top. One thing that bothers me a bit is that the transmission whine totally overwhelms any turbo sound. If you don't upgrade the transmission, do you still get the gear whine?

I think the game sounds better than FH4. However, I think it sound worse than FH3. Idk...everything sounds mushy and flattened together with big dramatic effects added on top. There seems to be very little detail or depth/layering. :(

Would really like @Griffith500 's opinion...our resident audio guru.

A mildly modified RX-7 onboard IRL for comparison:

A lot less echo, a lot more turbo spool, and a lot less subdued exhaust note. The FC RX7 in FH3 was actually really really good, I loved driving that car in that game. It sounded very similar to the clip above. GT Sport does an OK job. PGR4 nailed it pretty well way back in the day:

Yup. The VIP Forza editions are on the preview build's wheelspin somehow...

The soundtrack has been getting pieced together from gameplay before the official announcement this week.

Pretty poor in my opinion, they’ve really cheaped out with the Monstercat songs, which almost all are incredibly generic. Pulse has some decent tracks with Hot Chip, Jungle and Dua Lipa, and Block Party with Beastie Boys and DJ Shadow. Personally not a fan of XS, really changed the vibe of the station with FH4 and they’ve continued down that route. DIIV and Wolf Alice are good additions, a bit of throwback to the FH2 sound that XS had, much more summer-y alternative type of rock that is much more fitting of the setting and atmosphere of 2010s music festival. The change to the daggy ‘hard‘ rock in FH4 was major downgrade in my opinion.

In the lead up to FH1 and 2, Playground Games were heavily promoting the Rob Da Bank curated radio stations, which at the time I thought was a bit of PR fluff, but looking back the soundtracks to those games actually fit the settings, and have a large number on musicians and artists relevant to the time. Their stations were really on the forefront of indie and alternative music, and although acts like Skrillex haven’t aged so well, Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, The War On Drugs, Phoenix, Cut Copy and Todd Terje are all popular acts that fit the setting and atmosphere to a tee. You also had the older alternative bands like New Order, Pixies, The Clash and Stone Roses.

A lot of people don’t care from the soundtrack, and fair enough, but it’s pretty major part to me for game with the setting of a music festival. A well curated soundtrack goes a long way, look at how Rockstar have done with their soundtracks and stations, people still reminisce over the music of San Andreas. I get that PG may not have the Rockstar budget for music, but a well curated soundtrack can still be done on a budget.

I stopped caring about the soundtrack when they started to censor tracks in FH4 for no reason despite keeping The LostProphets in FH1 when they upgraded the game for Xbone. It's going straight to mute no matter what's on there, and I'll use Spotify instead.

And should anyone not know why it's a terrible thing to have The LostProphets on your soundtrack, give it a google. Absolute trash human being.

While I agree that Lostprophets should be censored if anything music licensing is super complicated, anyone who uses licensed music in youtube videos will tell you that.

Also if someone sees this and decides to google what happened with Lostprophets, make sure you aren't eating. I warned you.

They're doing an FH5/MSFS crossover called "FlyingWithForza". I was going to do an article on it, but the Tweets are randomly timed and all kinds of crazy.
Oh, of course. I’d like to get MSFS, but I’ll probably wait until I can get a Series X.

Yup! I can confirm I've had a few issues with music copyright on my Youtube videos so it ain't that easy to just change the music because the copyright checker on Youtube can now identify almost all music that's been registered so you can't just simply use any music nowadays.

I only just realised this morning that the game is with us in 22 1/2 days approx., launch day is not far away!

I've seen a YT say the physics are less arcady this time around.. I'm not expecting much in this dumbed down culture but I will take what I can get.
Sorry I'm a bit harsh towards the arcade loving crowd....

I didn't know any Dua Lipa songs but now I've heard some I wish they used Don't Start Now instead of Levitating. It has a killer bassline. There are far worse pop singers they could have used though.
I actually seem to have an extreme distaste of "New Rules". Well, one song, especially from that singer cannot stop me from enjoying FH5 altogether though. But just imagine how much backlash FH5 would receive if they featured Black pink in the game, especially "Ice Cream".
