Ah, that is a bit of a letdown. I dusted off my copy of GT5 a while back and played a round of Nürburgring in the dark and it was an amazing experience.

Look at all the screen shots and video clips of where it is 'night.'

It's only about as dark as a GTA game. What's the point of racing at night if you can see without headlights?

Absolutely dark outside of the headlight illumination. The entire excitement of racing at night (in real life and in-game) is the sort of danger of it. It's difficult to freakin' see! That doesn't happen when you can see everything without your lights.

Because it's an arcade. From the looks of it, how the car handles, it looks like I'm going to burn this game. I hope I'm wrong.

You know they purposely made it brighter at night. When will you guys realize this is not a sim and more about fun. This is aiming for more casual people who would probably complain if it was too dark.

EDIT: They even reduced the damage model so why would they want people crashing.

I dont think it was ever truly being produced by T10. Arent they just watching over it?

It looks bad because all the assists are on.

Still looks too arcadey with bonus points for burnouts and that stuff.. :indifferent: I just hope the cars handle the same as in Forza 4.. This is why:

Jalopnik: Are you still using the Forza 4 physics engine? Has anything changed?

AH: It is based on the same physics engine, yes. We did tweak things to allow for more “stylish” driving, though.

👎

As much as I hyped this game and wanted it to be my dream-come-true game, it seems to be less and less that each day. I will surely buy this, cause hell, I'd by anything stamped "Forza" on it! Which is probably the issue with this... I'm beginning to fear this is just going to be some game with name "Forza" on it. To me Forza is simulation, more or less (You can argue and disagree on this, but nevertheless). This looks more and more non-Forza to me.

But hey, I loved TDU1, why shouldn't I like this? :)

Forza Horizon looks great from what I have seen. If it is using the same engine from Forza 4 but more stylish, I think they mean that the car will be more fitted to the roads than the tracks. So it feels more like you are driving on a real road. That is what I think from what I have seen.

Why in god's name are you people using "arcade" as a four-letter-word?

Sim elitists. *rolls eyes*

Hmm good thinking!!

Because when I say arcade, everybody knows what I mean.

Grammernazi. *shakes his head*

So far I'm loving this concept and the videos have been fun to watch, but I hope we can have a personalized experience. Meaning, some kids want the arcade FH and most of us want the sim FH. I just hope we can have both.

Proper wheel support, turning off all aids, turning off the DJ, having the option to use your own music, and not getting points for smashing cars/signs/and everything else, would be a definite buy from me:tup:

Sigh. I guess those of us who think that darker is more fun will be denied that experience. I go on night drives, on purpose, because of the darkness.

Several times in the interview with dan, he said that the core element in the game is the festival. And twice he said it was a music festival. A car game based around a music festival, with electronica/dubstep as the most likely candidate for the music. This game is shaping up to be the Casual, Bro title of the decade. :banghead:

I'll continue to check back, but at this point, I'm totally uninterested.

I'll second this.

I am still really impressed by some of the features they added to Horizon as we can expect to see them add these features to future Forza titles. However the so called "tweaked" physics for more "style", the music festival as the central focus of the game (although they still say the car is the star), and Dan using the words "hooning it up" to describe the type of driving you're awarded for - this is definitely building up to be a Bro-tastic game.

Dubstep is confirmed at 5:00

But yeah, it's getting more bro and casual the more videos I watch, but the day/night transistion and driving in CO always keeps me excited.

Although, I can't help but think TDU2 with the clubby/house music and the pseudo-stylizish watch/bracelet the driver wears:yuck:

Cruising with friends online is where i'll be!

I dont get this "Bro" term. What is it supposed to mean?

At this point, I'm not sure what to make of this game.

Pros:
-Sweet open world Forza!
-Awesome setting! Colorado F yeah!
-Mountain roads and highways!
-24 hour day/night cycle!
-In-car view retained!
-Nice visuals!!
-Off road!

Cons:
-Night isn't dark!
-Questionable handling!
-Festival?! WTF?! Motorstorm meets pro-street!
-No massively multiplayer. Huh?!
-Not really developed by T10 it seems!
-Cars rebuilt for Horizon. Which means they are lower-poly. I don't mind this, but still!

Yeah, this game is sounding more an more just like every other popularity/fan based arcade racer out there, just with less arcadey physics.

First entry, second definition is the best I could find. Probably better than how I could explain it...

Maybe this old blog post will help as well...

Basically what I'm trying to get at is that the combination of the dubstep music culture smashed together with rewards for driving like a hoon = No No

"bro" Basically catering to one audience. The young/extreme/xgames inspired western male audience.

This is not official, just my take.

Yeah, where is Forza taking us? I've spent over $100 on FM4 and now they are bringing us to a concert in the middle of a desert and giving us points to destroy things?!?

It's not Forza 5....

Yeah, I know, but the series seems to introducing all these casual elements straying always from the sim nature of the series.

Whether its permanent assists, car soccer, and now horizon..the road away from realism is apparent.

Anyway, regardless of my critiques, I'm still going to throw my money to good graphics, physics (w/good wheel support:tup:) and a open/free world.

Meaning, this is a 90% buy for me:)

I hate dubstep just as much as the next guy. I hope that the game isnt just filled with that.. Electronica and what not i can listen to all day though so i hope they have atleast something good in it. I'm also kinda sad at the points you get for smashing things :/

The original Forza motorsport series is staying exactly how FM fans expect it to be. Forza horizon is not even supposed to be considered the same, the even said that this is not going to change the FM series, its offbranch taking a step in a different direction.

dp sorry

It's not Forza 5....

I don't think any of us were expecting it to be Forza 5.

Rather a MMO game where the online club communities can get together on the open roads (in a game) instead of being limited to places like Fujimi Kaido and Le Mans with 16(?) players max.

So they're giving you a festival and one way of earning points to hold it all together. If the driving feels good with all assists off, just forget the stupid story, challenge online rivals from your friends list who will probably be like-minded gamers and progress that way without having to get involved with the dude-bro nonsense.

Well looking at all the problems that people are having with it, kinda makes it seem that way.

Agreed.

It's the first of its kind. People should just accept it for what it is and not expect it to be something specific.

^This.

The destruction points piss me off, no tuning options is a slap in the face, and no MMO style free roam..... If that god awful game TDU had it, there's no excuse for Horizon not to have it. If this is "social meets competition," or whatever silly slogan they're using, it doesn't get much more social then MMO free roam.

I will purchase this game; not because I think it will be the last racing title I ever play.... hardly. I am purchasing it to fund the game after this one. They're not going to get it perfect on their first attempt. But at least it is an attempt and its in the right direction.

It's an end of cycle title. Something to bring in more console purchases before Microsoft pulls the plug. If there is a Horizon 2 it will be on the next XBOX; and that is where all the features we want will be able to implemented. The 360 has been showing its age for years and I am surprised developers and programmers are able to do what they do on this ancient hardware.

So, here's to Horizon 2 on the next XBOX. Horizon is a step in the right direction, a commercial beta, and hopefully our feedback influences the next title.
