I think a lot of that is by virtue of the fact that both online and offline share the same physics model.

Allows you to set up your cars offline with confidence going into an online race.
I think there's more to it.

It's really hard to find the right words to express this, and I doub I can do so properly. It's just that I can pick up Forza, go for the full-blown simulation settings and feel right at home, which was demonstrated to me again today.

I couldn't say the same about GT5 when I did the same with it last year.

On the other hand, FM4 seems to be more demanding when you're pushing the car towards the limits than GT5, so it's not just that FM is easier or anything.

I know, this probably doesn't make much sense to most of you, but with Forza, I don't need much of a warm-up phase, even though I should need it, judging by my experience with other games.

I'm looking forward to trying myself.
Hope we get a demo like last time out.

What Luminis said about FM4 feeling natural is something that has always struck me about the Forza series. I can get into most vehicles and find a decent pace right away without it being alien. That's how driving a car in Forza is. Consistent with what you expect.

I find the opposite in this regard. It just does not look / feel natural to me. The cars don't behave like you expect. In Forza 3 you can't really get a tank slapper, this looks to have been fixed for Forza 4. It might need a bit of throttle and steering control compared to FM3 where you could point and shoot and also drive on the grass with very little chance of losing the car.

The handling in this video just does not look very natural to me and this is FM4.

What aids is he using in the video? have you tryed FM4?

Some pictures from the new Road America in FM 4. Badnet posted this at neogaf and it was captured from a video of a full lap.

Follow up to this:

I hate not knowing what assissts and such are being used (especially now that we're also having the simulation steering option).

Aside from that, looks good.

"The official racing game of ALMS" ? Does that mean we'll get our Porsches after all ? :dopey:

I think I can put it in words. Forza's has always felt like driving a car not mastering a game that's based on driving a car. GT5 makes you feel like everything you've done in the past 20 years IN REAL LIFE was fake and this is how you're supposed to drive a car whereas Forza always felt like "you know that thing you do when you want to get from home to the mall 20 miles away? Drive? Yeah that's it. Do that here. Go real fast though and you'll get messed up. Now go play"

Or better yet. GT5 feels like College. Learn to do things like this. It's the "correct" way to do it. While Forza feels like a real life job after you get out of college "Ok remember all that stuff you learned in college? Forget it! This how things work in the real world son"

Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense. It would be like F1 2011 without Ferrari or Dirt 3 without Subaru. I don't believe that Porsche will be missing.

So they said that FM 4 will feature 26 ALMS cars. I checked the qualifying results from the latest events. So without Porsche there are 23 cars from manufacturers like BMW, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Oreca and other. While I dont believe that they add 7 Oreca FLM09, they have to include some Porsches. Otherwise they wont reach the 26 cars.

With this there is absolutely no question that Porsche would be missing. When over a third of the cars in a racing series is Porsche, you won't call the series officially included in your racing game, unless they are in.

With the update of Road America, do ou guys think that they also update other tracks, like Silverstone?

Unless, of course, they're counting older models that already were in FM3...

I think it all depends on how big of an update it is. As far as I know, the Corvette Bridge on Road America was a rather small one. I could of course see them rework other tracks as well, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Appreciate the reports guys from Gamescom, nicely detailed and it is great to read, damn you lucky sods.

Still cant believe though you go their without a camera and not getting some good photo of your own, particulary of the Elite wheel which is a shame. Dont you have decent mobiles even if you havnt a camera, grrrrrrrr...

I drive my car quite hard regularly and haven't got this current one into a tank slapper, so being good at driving and finding I'm naturally good at Forza doesn't bother me. There's no real disconnect for my driving style IRL or on this game.

It depends how they are counting. I'm no historical expert, but I did check some time ago, and there are about 35 cars bearing the IMSA badge in FM3, 5 of them being Porsches.

I have a pretty good camer in my phone which is capable of shooting 720p videos. The thing is that there was the same setup and wheel there was at E3, even the same demo. Gameplay videos are out there and there will be a 1080p video from xboxfront soon. They have already a short part to download.

There are also many pictures of the CSR Elite wheel.

I guess thats where we differ, had I went Id of been trying my best to get more closeup photos of the wheels, including over at the F1 booth of the CSW.

Did you check out Kinect or AutoVista?

Kinect or Autovista weren't avialable to the public, sadly.

And, for me, I really don't have a digital camera... The one in my cell if crap, but, even worse, I can't get them to my computer, because my cellphone was a gift from a friend of mine and came without the stuff I'd need in order to do so

Even the girl that accompanied me (my soon-to-be girlfriend, most likely ) didn't bring a camera or anything. I would've liked a picture of myself in that rig, but oh well...

And of course of the Aventador, the GT2RS and the F10 M5 that were scattered across the show room floor

We still have no confirmation if Porsche is or isn't in the game but I'd think it's stupid to be 'the official racing game of ALMS' and missing an entire class that are specific to only 911 GT3 Cup cars in the GT-C class. That's also not counting the GT classed 911 GT3 RSR cars nor the RS Spyder from P2 (not this year).

Oreca is a race team and chassis builder and we don't know if T10 is going to make chassis builder or engine builder as the 'auto maker' for these race cars. For example an Aston Lola or a Dyson Lola will be practically the same Lola chassis but either have an Aston Martin or Mazda Dyson race engine. Will they fall under 'Lola' or Aston/Mazda? Same for the Oreca FLM09. If the former then there's a good argument that Porsche is NOT in but if the latter than there's a good argument that Porsche IS in.

To me like I've mentioned before, ALMS is 4 car classes and not having Porsche means an entire class is missing. Then toss in the fact that Porsches are in higher classes than the GT-C class and it's like adding salt to wounds. Personally as a fan of LMS/ALMS I'd think it'd be real dumb to have this ALMS sponsorship without Porsche.

They're probally not going to include all the classes.
4 classes?
I doubt they'd add evbery class and every car.
probally the LMP(whatever they are called now) and GT1&GT2(whatever they are called now too)

I doubt every race team/livery will be there as well but missing an entire motorsports brand is huge thing to miss when they claim ALMS sponsorship. It'd be like adding NASCAR but only having Dodge and Chevy, neglecting Ford or Toyota.

I found something interesting in an article written by XboxFront.de. It's an interview with Dan and there was one interesting bit.

This is the German text:
Dan: "Normale Straßen- oder Sportreifen halten auch bei extremer Fahrweise mehrere tausend Kilometer und ändern während dieser Zeit auch nicht spürbar die Performance. Auch hier nutzen wir die Daten von Pirelli, was dafür sorgt, dass die Reifenwechsel und Boxenstopps in Forza 4, wie auch in der Realität, eine untergeordnetere Rolle spielen wird als in vielen anderen Rennspielen."

The important bit, in my opinion, is that T10 acknowledge that road-legal tyres last several thousand kilometers even when driving very hard. This goes, of course, for both normal tyres and sport tyres alike. This, of course, means that you won't reallly notice a drop in performance when racing with such tyres and, accordingly, there'll be less of a need for pit stops in FM4 unless you're racing a car on race tyres. All of that is based on data T10 acquired from Pirelly, so it shouldn't be just some made up stuff.

Makes sense, in my opinion.

Kinda sound like a lame excuse to me (for not having proper pitstops). But it is indeed realistic. Only race spec tires shall exhibit sensible tire wear over the course of a race. Even a 24h endurance race may not wear "sport tires" to the point where performance is degraded (given the tires are new at the beginning of the race).

I would prefer some options for accelerated tyre wear..

Race series I've been in often had to force pitstop windows and have a forced stop just to add an extra element to the race, and it would be nice if you didn't have to do this so artificially.

Lets face it, the entire game is based around unrealistically short races, surely accelerating tyre wear in line isn't too far a stretch?
