So basically F4 didn't raise any bars :grumpy:

It nailed FM3 experience, and that is what they promised back at E3 2010. Better graphics, better physics, more cars than in any other game, more than2 years needed to complete the game...đź’ˇ I played FM3 a lot when it came out and didn't notice any flaws back then. I sometimes turned the light off in the room at night and just look at a single car for 30 minutes or so. For me Forza is the best game for a car lover with the greatest variety of cars. This autumn it will just get better. GT 5 didn't deliver this, the driving is awesome, yes, but all else is just not finished/polished, at the end I've spent more time watching GT TV:dopey:

Actually, my only complain about FM 3 was the lack of different homespace and now it looks like they fixed it.

I don't believe there's going to be a one racing game to rule them all, at least in a healthy competitive market it shouldn't, Forza is about a wholesome experience and community involvement, and until the next technical breakthrough it will merely be expanding upon this premise.

Forza 4 has put a lot of effort in covering its basics right, and set many things in Forza 3 straight, minimising things that upsets our previous experience (AWD dominance, lack of public custom lobby , controller input filtering etc), so if Forza 5 comes they can focus on new features and as you said, breaking new grounds.

It is a honest way to build a franchise imo, go put effort on main gameplay rather than producing nice numbers and grabbing headlines.

Question: these pre-order cars like the BMW 1 Series M: are they available to all customers in-game once they have reached a certain level or can you only access them by pre-ordering from a given store? If so, that's BS. What if you want all the cars? You have to buy 5 copies of the game???

But they advertised the game like it is from another planet...

This is what makes me laugh about forums. People get so hyped up about what "Might" be in the game they forget the actual claims the devs made.

Devs say: We want this to be the best looking racing game the gen
Forum Hype says: This game is going to own GT6/shift7/Dirt15
Devs say: We're using new IBL techniques
Forum Hype says: OMG night racing.. CONFIRMED
Dev say: Kinect enabled
Forum Hype says: What? Kinect only! Fail
Devs Say: 500+ Cars
Forum Hype says: At least 600-650 cars.. At launch!
Dev Say: Select cars for Autovista
Forum Hype says: 50-100 cars in AV

And on it goes as the hypetrain leaves the station on (Japanese) time. Funny to watch, but annoying at the same time

The 2 environments cut don't bother me. Not a fan of Almafi's full course or New York. Bugatti's loss kind of sucks, but at least LeSarthe is still there.

They did say there are new tracks yet to be announced.

The AutoVista thing isn't a big deal. Esp. since the sentence starts off with, "At launch,....". I like how you have to work for some of the features. 👍

I think lasarthe was cut as well.

I don't really care if 69 cars get dropped as long as they are duplicates and cars people don't drive. You know Turn 10 actually gets data and sees what people use and don't use ?

LeSarthe is not cut. Two versions remain "Full circuit and the Old Mulsanne circuit". The two unrevealed tracks are believed to be the ones we already know about that haven't been officially announced

Also i heard that theres cockpit damage. I couldnt find it in the article.
I didn't hear that, not from Turn 10. It's always been a priority to ensure that the passenger compartment remains intact as to not imply driver injury. This is a mutual license agreement across the board.

Yet you thought Le Sarthe was cut when the article clearly dictates otherwise.

90+ new cars seems pretty decent to me. As someone said, that's a 25% increase and honestly, what else can we expect in 2 years? It's not like the game was going to be made from scratch and I expected the majority of cars to be carried over. The good thing about not having Porsche is that at least we get Ruf (which was not present in FM3) along with a good dose of new cars. Not sure if the 90+ new cars includes or excludes the LCE and pre-orders?
Not too bothered about night and weather although I did expect them to have night racing.

And yeah, It is funny how people say that FM 4 is wy overhyped.

Turn 10 isn't the ones who released new, stunning looking trailers, that were prerendered and looked amazing, didn't promise a lot. So far there was only one official trailer which was all based on realtime graphics and people could get their hands on it.

At the same time GT fanboys claimed everywhere "GT>Real", "GT5 owns every other game", the belief and trust in the name was unbelievable. When PD realeased GT5P, Time Trial, every fanboy said - "The final version will have graphics which are 10 times better, this is an old build". And stuff like that really bothered me.

And yeah 90 cars + 10 as a DLC at day 1 is a half of GT5 garage, I see no letdowns here.

Hey I'm on iPod too.

Please read the under the hood section about transferring liveries to F4.

Cockpit damage is mentioned.

I am not lying. Or joking for that matter.

Edit.
It maybe bad wording on their behalf. It's probably referring to damaged hoods.

If so I apologise for miss understanding.

Maybe not, you did however misread the section in question:

What about my livery designs? How do I bring them from Forza 3 into Forza 4?
As all of the Forza 3 cars have changed for Forza 4 (primarily in the form of cockpit, damage, and shader upgrades)...

Must have missed the comma after cockpit.

wow that latest news is really disappointing. feels just like when PD finally admitted their Premium/Standard split. Shall still buy it.

I wish there were low-level cockpit damage but such is unlikely to happen unless it's GTR or something...and even that doesn't feature it.

Just engine fire. :p

Like broken spoiler from the car in front, flying through your windshield and cutting your drivers head off?

Looks like the livery transfer could be a pain. It only transfers "groups" of vinyls, not the entire car desings. So you will need to save a group for every car. Thats going to take a long time. One for driver side, one for passenger, one for top, front and rear. Its better than nothing thats for sure.

Why go to the bother if it doesn't fit?

They've obviously not allowed you to copy over an entire livery to the same car for a reason.

I am planning to redo it all again anyways, trying to move old layer groups around might actually be more problematic then starting from ground up. (and will we get metallic, matte and chrome vinyls this time?)

I will just start saving driver side, passenger side, and top of the cars that I want to transfer over the designs. There is no way I am re-making some of these designs for the 4th time in a row.

OH some other bad news.

Looks like its confirmed that Forza 4 will NOT have weather or night racing. :(

http://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/underthehood2/

Forza Motorsport includes alternate times of day for a small number of environments, but those alternates do not include dark night or weather effects.

Holy crap, check out the negative nancy's in this thread, grasping for straws to find anything negative about the "under the hood 2" update. I found the update to be freakin' awesome by EVERY possible measure.

Profile Import They gave us information that told us we could have up 17 cars inherited from our FM3 profile. They will also be gifting us credits from the start as well. Great news!

Livery Import They told us that we can import our livery "group" imports, not just flat out livery to livery on the car (due to the new cars). So many of us have so much invested time in our livery groups, this is a great time saver. Great news!

Physics All new tire physics. Improved steering physics. Removal of steering aids in simulation mode. Suspension physics updated an improved. Track bumpiness improved. Wind buffeting at high speeds added/improved. Tracks updated for different bumps and elevations from track research and driver feedback. Great news!

Performance Index Huge improvement and changes here, and AWD PI fixed, just as the community has asked. Great news!

Tracks and Cars Loss of Porsche (boo), which is MANY cars lost. But we are still getting 500 cars (plus 10 in the American Muscle pack), with 120 more cars expected to be added over the year. That is 620 fully detailed cars! Woot! We lost 2 tracks (New York, which sucked) and Sidewinder (which they saw nobody used...and for good reason, it sucked), and two versions of an existing track were removed (boo!), but we are getting new tracks to replace them, including Top Gear, Hockenheim and the new Alps, with more to be announced! Great news!

Autovista They informed us that we are getting 25 cars at the start, with information now stating that we will be able to get more after launch as DLC! Great news!

Unicorn cars More Unicorn cars, and a special auction house tab specifically for Unicorn cars. Great news!

Weather and Night racing Bad news here. We get neither. The good news is, they explained why. Hardware limitations and production schedule. Love their openness here. That said, the has confirmed that some tracks will have different time of day, and different track temperatures. Great news!

  • Single player changed from 8 cars to 12 cars
  • Multiplayer changed from 8 cars to 16 cars
  • Different time of day for select tracks
  • Improved Physics
  • Autovista
  • Profile and Livery Import
  • Performance Index Updated
  • 500+ Fully modeled cars (100 new models)
  • Kinect Head Tracking
  • Autocross
  • Top Gear Soccer/Football
  • Rivals Mode
  • Car Clubs
  • New lighting engine
  • Improved Damage
  • New improved cockpit view
  • Weekly/Monthly Race Events
  • Custom Lobbies
  • New tracks

Dang, I hope we get games "with no new features" more often!

It's bad news if you were expecting it I suppose.

They have stated that they don't want to compromise frame rate. I am quite happy about that.
Perhaps it's good news for me.

I think those features will definitely make the Forza series but on another console when they can do it justice.
Can't accuse them of throwing in or copying other features.

Also shows a bit of class when you want to keep an overall standard to your game as a whole. IMHO.

Edit. Treed by Mr Bogie.

And imo the data from Pirelli is a huge step up in racing game genre, it affects the feel, performane, wear rate, heat characteristics of every tires in different conditions, for a racing simulation tire behavior is almost half of the physics from a driver's point of view.

Wait a minute, I would not trust these words. At the end, T10 will make the game playable for everyone so this will never reach real sim qualities...

Do we all remember how EA advertised NFS Shift 2? The best physics available in racing sim genre? Hell, even Grand Theft Auto IV has better driving physics! really! NFS shift has the worst physics in this gen.

So T10 can also talk a lot of stuff to get as many preorders as they can get. At the end, if they can´t hold their word, people get dissapointed... And forget all the dissapointment till the next FM5... because again they advertise the game like it is from the mars... Exactly like EA did with Shift 2 and PD did with GT5... Fortunately Kaz is a perfectionist and PD still works on GT5...

Whuuut I never had any expectations from FM4. The only expectation I have, is that they rebuilded the Tracks and implemented correct proportions of the Nordschleife and other too wide tracks.
