Where its supposed to be??? It's a fantasy track. It's supposed to be where ever they decide to put it.

It's supposed to be set near Valencia, Spain (there is a place called Montserrat there). I highly doubt you would see snow-capped mountains that far south, or not outside winter anyway.

All the new tracks have already been announced. Alps is the only new fantasy track. All other new tracks are real life (as by popular demand).

In T10's fantasy they can see whatever they want. You don't like their vision? Go play GT5.

When you make a video game with your personal fantasy tracks then you can tell us where it is supposed to be set.

Until then, I do not think you have any authority to tell the developers that they have their fantasy track in the wrong setting.

Exactly.

Meh. I prefer fantasy tracks.

I've driven the same selection of race tracks thousands of times in countless racing games this generation.

Some new tracks are very welcome to me.

Please do tell what current gen game has so many real world tracks you are already sick of them?

Sorry, I would take a small selection of real world tracks over lots of fantasy ones anyday.

Whoa there! Why so hostile?

Where did I say that I don't like the new Camino Viejo, or that I had any issue with it at all? Just saying that T10 have used a bit of artistic licence for the setting, that's all. For what it's worth I really like the look of the new Camino Viejo.

Sheesh.

It's not near Valencia. The real locale is east of Barcelona.

My mistake. The point still stands though.

Anyway I'll keep quiet on the matter because some people seem to get upset at the concept of differing views and opinions.

Edit - the Montserrat monastery (near which I'm assuming the track is set) is actually a short trip NW of Barcelona in real life.

What did Dan say? They have problems with the Spa license? So there is no hope for Spa in FM4? :(

Do I detect EA again. Better bloody not be.

Just create something similar like PD did with Monaco.

Call it Spam or something.

I believe Spa has always been one of those tracks that has had issues making their way into racing games.

Not sure if it's new.

F1 games, and Shift2 have it. Rfactor from mods I assume? Its been in quite a few.

Spa was in GRID if I remember correctly.

T10 say it's east Of Barcelona on their splash page for the track. Well researched then, T10!

The only new track that has yet to be "announced" is Indy.

Scenery is familiar but the track does not exist. It's a fantasy track. Where they place mountains and everything doesn't matter since it's only fantasy. They can place it where ever they want.
Of course.

It's still a weird design choice. The goal of a simulator is to make it feel real. And if a fantasy track can't beat a real track for realism, at least you can set it up in some real location in the world, and picture it accordingly.

Which is exactly what they have done.

They had the mountains and architecture of the area perfect in FM3, oversaturated, but the modeling itself was good.

I can even find the exact valley used as the backdrop in FM3 in google street view

I am having a hard time finding anything like the new area in streetview or even in an image search. I like the idea that they changed it up and made it fresh, but the location made sense before with the old backdrop. The backdrop looks very similar to the backdrop used in the Bernese Alps track. I suppose I wouldn't mind that so much if it were revealed that the Alps track and the Montserrat tracks were connected somehow.

That's the strange thing about the new Camino - the fact that Turn 10 went to a lot of effort to research the area and use a real life setting for their fictional track - as they have done with the Bernese Alps track this year - only to completely change many features and make it less authentic. The FM3 Camino looks spot on if you Google pics of Montserrat.

It still looks great, but it's an odd design choice.

T10 needed mountain for the Alps, thats why they removed it :dopey:

I think it's a very logical design choice. Sacrificing a bit of authenticity on a fantasy track in order to make it look better seems perfectly fine to me.

Which is exactly what they have done.
For Camino in FM3. And for the Alps in FM4. Let's hope they won't "improve" the Bernese Alps in FM5 by inserting some seaside backdrop.

The only thing on Alps i dislike is the track width, it's like freeway. I wished that they made it narrower.

I photoshopped Camino Viejo with the real Monserrat abbey a while back. Almost a perfect fit. It is very odd to change it, rather than just improve what was there.

I think the change looks great, but I will reserve final judgement on October 11th.

Alan on VVV gamer twitted he has a busy day tomorrow (today) with Forza. 8^)
