anybody here play golf? 👍 yes 👎 no never tried it?

I do but haven't played in over a year or so...had played off/on for over 10 years....best round was a 77 (+5) on a par 72 course here in Northern California.

Never had an official handicap, but would have considered a 12 handicap pretty accurate.

Still have my clubs in the garage....

I play golf all the time but in the business world you pretty much have to.

I golf as well, but I have a feeling I do it just a bit more than everyone here. I'm a golf professional at a country club here in Omaha. My father is also a club pro, so I was born into the game, and have loved every bit of it. I started playing when I was almost 4, so I have 23+ years playing. I love it. And since Sim listed equipment, I figure I'll list mine as well. Speaking of, Sim you need a new driver. A 7.5* D???? Ouch, thats a rough one these days with the golf balls we have now. Get something new in like 8.5 or 9.5 and you'll be amazed at the distance you'll see by actually getting the ball in the air.....

Driver = Titleist 905S, 9.5*, Mitsu-Rayon Diamana 83X Ion

Fairways = Titleist 980F, 15* and 21*, Fujikura Speeder 952 T.S.

Irons = TaylorMade RAC TP '05 (4-9 iron), Rifle Project X 6.5

Wedges = Cleveland CG10 B.P. (48*, 52*, 56*, 60*), Rifle Project X 5.5

Putter = Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport, 34" 340g head, Cameron C.N.C. grip

Ball = Nike One Platinum

Bag = Titleist 10.5 staff (with name), or Titleist X57 carry bag

I love the sport very much, but I've never played it. :indiff: I do go out to the range with the buddies sometimes. I either slice them, or miss them completely. It's a work in progress. :p

Keep the head down, feet still, keep your right elbow close to the body (if your right-handed), and just swing the club head in a nice big arc. Let the club do the work, and don't try to kill it. Those few things are good base-starting points that can help some people get a little better.

Golf is one of those sports thats not hard to get fairly good at, but very hard to get REAL good at. Just takes time to build the muscle memory. But, its all about having fun, so just get out there and have a good time. The nice thing about golf is you can never beat it, you can only get better.

Thanks. 👍 Keeping head down and keeping the feet still, that part I got. I'll work more on it this summer.

I went out to the range last night, and probably will later today, but I noticed that when I actually kept my eye on the ball the whole time, my shots improved significantly. My technique probably needs a lot of work.

I've played, but it was a part of school. I find it hard i've been playing hockey for a while so i find it tough not to suck up on the shaft.
That sounds really dirty. I'm not sure what you're talking about, but in my case, it's baseball. When you've swung bats all your life, it's very hard to get adjusted to the swing motion of golf. Totally different mechanics.

If you that's dirty then i guess i'm not the diry you are. What i am trying to say is it feels weird when my hands are so close together when i take a shot.

I'm sorry. :p I hang out with bunch of perverts, my mind was in the gutter again.

I played a few rounds of Golf recently and it was much more fun than i had imagined but much prefer just going to the driving range rather than a whole course since i suck at putting.

Golf is so much more fun to play than to watch. I have a set of clubs but I suck badly. On account of I havent even hit a ball in a year and a half.

I am an avid golfer...Love playing, watching on tv, and playing tiger woods games on ps2. I don't think therer is another sport I would rather play ANYTIME than golf. I finaly worked out the kinks on my new driver at the end of this season, my last round was hitting 275-300 yards consistantly laser straight. Have been playing on and off again for tha past 11 years.

That's some nice drives. I suuck with my driver but I'm in control with my irons. I once hit 220 yards with my 3 iron and I played for 1 year.

Yeah you just beat everyone at everything don't you.

When I was a kid me and a mate of mine used to take his dad's clubs to a school field near us, we'd tee off from the bottom of the field and see if we could hit the school. A few months and a few broken school windows later there wa a flyer sent to all the houses in the area asking residents to report anyone seen on the field with golf gear :lol:.

I suck, Hard!
Is that really something you want to admit??? :lol: :lol:

My friends and I did something similar a few years ago. We have this retention pond in our neighborhood which never fills up so we used it as a place to hit golf balls. I ended up hitin this guys house and have him chase us while were tryin to drag the clubs with us. We got away though.

Now that the snow has fallen i am missing the golfing.I usually dont get to hit any balls from Dec-March but a new golf store has opened up near me and they are starting a indoor winter league so im going to give that a try.

Cool! Never knew there was a golf thread here at GTP. I'm a hardcore golf addict for the last 8-9 years. Play about 60-70 rounds a year. Right now my index is at 6.9, and I'm going to try and get it down a couple points this season, but my main goal this year is to break 70. It's tough to do where I live though,(Wisconsin) because the season is short, and it takes a while to get in the groove come summer.
I'm also an equipment junkie, and have 8 drivers, 3 sets of irons, half a dozen fairway woods, and a basket full of wedges and putters. :p

Here's what I have in the bag right now.

Driver- TaylorMade R7 Quad TP 8.5 degree, w/fujikura speeder S flex

3&7 woods- Adams GT 15 and 21 degree with the GT shaft (steel w/ graphite tip)

Utility- Mizuno 21 degree Fli-Hi with steel shaft (I trade this with the 7 wood depending on conditions.)

Irons- Mizuno MP30's 3-PW bent 3 degrees upright. dynamic gold S flex shafts w/ 1" extensions. (I'm 6'3"). PW is lofted at 49 degrees.

Wedges- Titleist Vokey oil can in 54 and 58 degree

Putter- Ping B90i long putter w/48" "ski pole" shaft :D

Ball- ProV1

Bag- Mizuno stand bag

My best round ever was a 71 on a par 73. 24 total putts for the round.:crazy:

Where in WI do you live??? My dad is Director of Golf at a new club opening up this spring in Kenosha. Its called "The Club at Strawberry Creek" and is a kick ass layout. Not sure where about you live, but you should try and check it out this summer. They are going to be public for a year or so to get some play, but then go full private. So, it would be a nice chance to play it.

CHEATER!!!!

Ha ha, just kidding. I used to laugh at all the people with long putters. But, last season, I switched to a belly, and love it (see earlier post for bag setup). Those 4 to 6 footers are almost gimmies now. I can't knock the long putters anymore. Like they say, can't beat em, join em.

Hi there JNasty!

I lived in the Kenosha area for about 12 years so am familiar with the area. But now I live on the opposite end of the state, (northwest corner) so Kenosha is about 350 miles from me. But I do get down that way on business from time to time, so I will keep it in mind. Thanks! 👍

I know what you mean about the long putters. I always thought it was cheating also, but I had gotten so terrible with short putts, I was about to give up the game. The pro at my course suggested I "just try" the long putter, and it was magic from the first putt. I have been using it for 3 years, and my index dropped a whopping 10 points! Very rarely do I ever three putt, and I'm no longer scared of the 3-6 footers. It's made a huge difference in the amount of fun I have out there. Which for me, is what it's all about. :)

So you have probably been able to play quite a bit this winter out in Omaha. I do some business in the Lincoln/Beatrice area, and it has been incredibly warm every time I've been there this winter. Must be nice! :jealous:

Kind of off-topic, I guess, but, I can't believe Michelle Wie is like 15 or something.

I think being a rich golfer makes young people look way older. She's f'ing up my x-mas, definitely.
