It might be possible with some of the STR video tools available, the format seems to be well documented even for the slightly different version in GT1 and 2. I've never tried it though, so you may be speaking from more experience than I am!
Interesting, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the heads up!

Hello Team Beige! How's progress? Is it going good? Will GT2BE releasing anytime soon?

There hasn't been a post in this thread for a few days and i don't even know what to expect!

Ahoy! Everything is fine although a little slower the last week. Most recent update is a Fabia, the Polo getting facelifted and I've been begining the updates to the Accords.

As said prior we are very literal years from release so don't expect to play it anytime soon!

Hey all, figured you might want a minor update on what's been happening this week. Could also potentially help you with seeing a bit of a timeline on how long something like this can take.

Main hightlights from this week model wise are the Pontiac Sunfire (fully done + logo) and the Citroen ZX (which needs colours and logos for the full asthetics package)

Sunfire model by Nathan, Logo by me

I also finished getting the colours onto the Fabia showed off prior

Just a small note, if anything you see in game looks too low/wheels too big .etc that's because the stats for the cars haven't been started yet. That type of thing is covered with stats so don't be too alarmed with this Fabia on 19's and riding low. That's because it's currently a JGTC Supra!

I've also been finishing some of the logos off yesterday for some of the cars that are in the game and others that are not. These can vary wildly from 5 minute quick jobs to 5 hour long Paint Shop sessions because I have no access to a clean image file. Fortunately yesterday's were fairly easy, to not spam the rest of this post I'll stick in a bit of a teaser for a car that's been asked about alot!

And that's about it for this week in beige, there are some more mudane notes. Such as the fact I'm gathering gear ratios for all 500+ cars that'll be featured but that's very boring busy work, as we move into the new year I may start doing a monthly dev update on my YouTube channel to just show how things are coming along, there's still plenty going on behind the scenes and of course things you haven't seen yet including our brand new city menus!

Thanks, as always happy to answer any and all questions but keep in mind there are no requests in regards to the car list as that's long since been finalised.

Thanks!

I'll definitely get that Sunfire no matter what!
Now that you shown it i wan't nothing else! Just this!

  • and the VehiCross!
  • and the EPIC van!
  • and the Saxo BIC!
  • Maybe the Multipla too!
  • **** it, anything's nice!

Even though only the logo has been finished, we can actually see what the Multipla would've looked like.

In Epic Turismo 2 there's the Rover James, a car from Top Gear that's based on a Multipla, and since Nathan also made the model for RJ, it will definitely look similar or the same as this, considering Nathan would probably be the one who'd make the model for the Multipla.

Since we already got carryovers from A-Spec, i guess it would be fair if Epic Turismo also get some repersentation ;)

I like the theory but the model from Epic Turismo is super old and pretty low effort, rest assured it'll be remade from scratch for Beige!

I guess curiosity is getting the better of me here (unless I've missed it and it's been mentioned already) but will any of the cars included in the mod have racing modifications? Could be an interesting way to mix things up a bit but I can understand the level of work that would go into having that alongside the modded cars would be a headache.

I think it's been mentioned in a few places but not here, no the cars won't have racing modifications. Not only does it not really fit the theme of the mod, it also not including getting the ideas and inspiration for them adds at least an extra day or two to each car which is a lot when you are dealing with the numbers we are.

Some people have said about not making them racing inspired but badly modified, service vehicles .etc but this is not that kind of mod. This is not a meme mod just to clear that up.

Makes sense, this does feel more like a grassroots/folk racing type of mod where "run what you bring" is the rule.

Besides the majority of these vehicles never had any racing ambitions to begin with, and the small remainder were presenting sporting credentials they really didn't deserve. Putting racing aero parts on them would be ineffective at best and a hinderance at worst due to the extra drag and weight.

It also should be noted that removing RM frees up models from the model limit, while there is a limit on how many parts a car can have both intrinsic and upgrades it helps.

Another point is while you can hang onto a car and do a bunch of events with it, the career mode in general will incentivise moving between cars and always trying something new so you should have a pretty varied garage by the end!

Honestly, given the theme of the mod, this makes complete sense. Regardless, more GT2 content in any capacity is always a good thing. I eagerly await the release and to see what cromulent boxes we get to drive.

Saw the latest post from Nathan today, and it's this.

We already got the Astro, U-bodys, the Caravans, Life Step Van, and now this.

Am i sensing something?

Could it be?

There's no way,

Is it....

Haha, obviously it won't be called that but they'll definitely be events for all of the cars we are adding. I've been doing a lot of event mapping recently and making sure every car has at least a handful of events it can participate in well enough

So the events will be adapted for the Beige Edition cars!! Nice! I love it a lot! Have a lot of events been swapped? Is there a limit of event ID's like in GT4?

Is there a limit of event ID's like in GT4?

Yes, the game has a specific fixed number of events for which it can load entry restrictions etc, and the savegame only has space to store the completion status and records for that number of events. There are a couple of unused events though, and presumably several of the existing events won't be relevant in this mod and could be replaced (GT500, Super Touring, GT-R manufacturer, that sort of thing). The completion percentage calculation is easily patched to handle whatever event count it ends up with too.

As Pez said, there is a limit but even with all the new events we've added we are still well below at the moment. Fortunately now we don't have the racing modifications it frees a lot up on the one make side. So there's plenty more events in those halls.

Rally events are unfortunately off the table too due to the fact you can't do anything with them, the AI work on dirt tracks but they are dog slow and makes the game lag but that frees up 27 slots.

The events are absolutely updated, every event has a brand new opponent pool, limits and tracks along with completely new events for the different car classes. There's at least one extra page in the special events!

At least omitting the rallies means you can also save tons of space in the parts data by deleting the rally tyres!
Exactly! To be fair the upgrade system is going to be dumbed down a fair bit to because parts limit is a pretty real concern.

A lot of upgrades especially tire side in GT2 are pretty unnecessary given everything has the same wear rates, grip is the only factor and so you always just want either the cheapest or the gripest. Likewise we are looking to give the illusion of merging some things like engine parts etc.

Also yes, unlike A-Spec the EV's will have a power upgrade!

Odd as it may sound, learning about the different programming limits the game has is actually pretty interesting on its own. I've always known that older console games tend to have lots of coding quirks to either get around or make use of the hardware's specs, but finding out that there are hard limits on things like car parts, race events and even the length of music tracks give a lot of insight into why the everything is structured the way it is.

It's not actually as deep as it sounds to be honest, the limit on the number of parts is just down to the game allocating a specific area of memory for the file that contains them, which is just the size they needed rounded up a bit. Adding too much to that file means it starts to overwrite other things in memory and crashes the game.

The limited number of events is solely down to the event IDs being hardcoded in the executable, so they're embedded in the code with no space around them to expand. The music lengths are also hardcoded, not for any technical requirement (they're editable in GT1) but just because none of this stuff was ever intended to be modified by end users without Polyphony's full source code and build toolchain.

I think it's actually the opposite that's most interesting - the game is so modifiable because Polyphony chose to take the time to make so many things file-based and data-driven, coincidentally meaning that huge changes to the content can be done without needing to recompile the source code. It's not something to be taken for granted with PS1 games, some of them are as basic as reading preset-sized chunks of data from preset positions on the disc with no flexibility at all.

Hey

Usually when i show up i come to bombard the team with questions, but now i'll just ask one that i've been wondering of,

Will we get the next 120 cars of GT2BE revealed? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I guess whenever we have 120 more cars finished, I think there's been about 15 done since that video came out but I could be forgetting some.

Plan is I'll do an update before the end of the year on what's happened recently, the reason it's been quiet on my end is because I'm working on getting gear ratios for all our cars and refining a few trims which is incredibly tedious and not really all that interesting to document here, I've been also helping with getting colours on the cars which is a long process and also a few logos too some are really cool which you'll see in due course!

If you want some visual flair for this post, the Trooper family is modelled and awaiting porting so I can finally complete my first ever mission for this project: Gran Turismo 2 with the Acura SL-X!

Still 2025 in the great GMT+0 time zone, so I'll just give a brief thank you for all of your interest in the mod so far everyone! Do NOT expect a release date in 2026 as I'd estimate we are in the 25-30% finished range.

Sorry it's been slow on update these last few weeks as previously mentioned I'm essentially doing one final full research pass for stats and ironing out certain trim levels. This week I've had my VPN on constantly crawling through Japanese flea markets to get brochures and info on the cars we are adding. This phase should be done in early January coupled with things getting back to normal from the festive season. We hopefully should get back up to a more tangible process soon.

It's been a mental year, from some whispers from the people who knew, to the trailer and 120 cars video gaining widespread attention ending up everywhere from Car & Driver to getting a page in Top Gear Magazine it's been crazy! Again thank you for all the support on what we all thought was a pretty niche concept developed purely out of a love for the cars in the mod.

As a bonus to cap off the year, here's one of the cars from December that I don't think got posted anywhere. The incredibly named Mitsubishi Pistachio a 50 model limited run version of the Minica!

Wait, Beige got into the Top Gear Magazine? Holy- that's so cool! Is the page available on the internet somewhere? I wanna see what they say.

Here you go, from the January 2026 edition of Top Gear Magazine. A cool little extra bit onto this is the guy who wrote the article is the original host of an Xbox video series I used to watch back in 2009 which is nuts
