Gran Turismo 2: Beige Edition

I bought Gran Turismo due to TG mag's glowing review back when it was new, so it's kind of bizarre to see things go full circle and have them acknowledge GT2 modding. They're indirectly the trigger for it all!

I've been thinking about the opponent pools, like the drivertrain challenges for example,

FF wouldn't be that different since the cars that appear there are also in the mod,

FR wouldn't be that different aswell because of the same reason as FF,

4WD would be different though because instead of racing against GT-Rs and Evos we would face Jeeps and U-bodys,

But i'm especially stumped on MR. What would we see in the MR Challenge? Would there be trim-changed MR2s? Are NSXs too sporty to keep? Would it just be kei trucks? There are some entries from America like the Fiero for example, but since malaise-era cars wouldn't be here it won't be here.

But you know what i'm the most stumped with? The GT World Championship (and All-Stars!)
Those events are filled with race cars, since this is a mod centered around road-going models, that makes it hard to think of any cars that would be worthy to race there. I do have two speculations. Either,

  • Luxury models, like Lexuses, Chevys, Jaguars, Mercs, etc.
  • Or, some of the trim-changed sports cars still featured in the mod like the Mustangs, the Camaro, Supra, i also saw a Silvia in Nathan's Twitter (someone even asked about the GTWC there!)

MR challenge won't exist in Beige, out of the 22 special events in GT2 only 8 are staying and even out of those there's going to be completely different opponent pools for all of them so no event will play like the base game.

All Stars as mentioned above is getting replaced, I don't want to speak on the Gran Turismo League just because I don't want to spoil everything but rest assured it's all new.

Every single car we are adding shows up in at least one event too so if you go for 100% and get lucky with the opponent pools you'll see everything the game has to offer which is very cool! Once we have some events in the game I'll showcase some of them here!

If i had to guess on which of those 8 returning events are, i'd place my bets on these:

1. Sunday Cup
2. Clubman Cup
3. FF Challenge
4. FR Challenge
5. 4WD Challenge
6. Compact Car Cup
7. Lightweight K Car Cup
8. Either Station Wagon or Luxury Sedan, both seems likely

You don't have to prove me right, that'll spoil some stuff

Two events I wouldn't be suprised to see are Economy Car Cup and City Car Cup. ^^

I think it would fit nicely!

Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to playing this game lol. Any chance of my daily drivers making the game? 1983-1988 Toyota Tercel SR5, 2003-2008 Toyota Matrix XR?

Thanks for your interest!

Unfortunately not, the Trecel had it's successor picked over it although we do have a car that is Trecel based but the later gen. The Matrix is too new as we have a cut off of 1999 for the car list

As the guy who keeps questioning, i'm back with more questions about the mod. Alhough i usually ask about which cars would be in Beige, today i'm going to question things that are a bit more technical......

- Is the rubberbanding gone? There are some mods for GT2 that eliminate rubberband and the people who worked on said mods also worked on this mod.

- Not really regarding the mod, but are any of these new car models compatible for GT1? Not talking about only the models that feature in the mod but any model that has been custom-made for GT2.

- Is arcade mode still with us? Maybe rallying would be gone from there but who the hell does rallying anyways?

- i also have one more question, but i forgot what it is :(

Probably off-topic for this thread, but in short - the technical restrictions on models are similar in GT1 although details like the shadow model are different, however adding new cars to GT1 is currently not possible so I've not spent the time to implement GT1 exporting in the model tool.

As Pez answered the GT1 question I'll gloss over that

Yeah I don't like the rubber banding, in general I think most opponent cars will be running basically stock cars unless it's badly needed for some events because I'm not a big fan of the way cars can look slow and then end up being ridiculous to race against

Arcade Mode is compatible, every car from that is currently being left untouched and all the data will survive as of now. Truthfully I'd love to beigeify arcade mode but it's much more of an unknown as a lot of the data is different and it's probably only going to be played by an incredibly small amount of players due to having to know how to patch the Arcade Mode with xDelta.

I finally remembered my question :D

Is the (currently sequestered) car list finalized or are there more cars added as we speak? I know that fan suggestions aren't accepted but it dosen't seem unlikely that some people in the team may have some vehicles that they thought would be worthy......

Actually, when was the car list finalized? If i'm not wrong the first mention of Beige was from mid-2025-ish when Nathan trim-changed some vanilla vehicles....

The list is fully finalized and has been since about June 2025 barring a few trim changes here and there. Nathan's idea to get the list finished and cut off early so we have a pretty clear end goal, it means you avoid creep up of content and means that the release of this will be completely the final product with no updates.

From my perspective this final car list as well means we can dedicate the end of development to purely bug fixing, I've heard too many horror stories of issues being discovered the day of release to leave anything to chance!

Hello all, appreciate there hasn't been an update here for a while so I figured I'd give you a bumper update

5 new cars, headline being the smart City-Coupé

There are also 2 cars in progress right now and I've got a base game rework coming too!

The Trooper trio is also now fully working and in game. SL-X pictured:

I've also been on the logo grind today, nothing with too much interesting to post and on top of this we've also been cooking on something else very cool indeed that adds quite a bit of flair, I'll say when you see images of Beige in the future keep an eye out on the background!

There's probably something else I'm forgetting but I think that catches you up on 2026's Beige highlights thus far!

It just keeps getting better day by day!

I'm curious though, will any of the Nissan Pike cars be here? They're from the 80s but they're Japanese so it wouldn't be malaise i think

No, the Be-1 was considered for a bit but never actually put on the list. A combination of basically just being a rebodied Micra so it's function in game is limited, they aren't really that beige and the fact they have pretty good representation in other games now kinda killed the idea off

I have a feeling that we would be playing Beige Edition in early 2027. Maybe late-January like 1.2 of A-Spec or maybe all the way up late-February.

It would be possible, a lot of cars has been finished and the redesigned menus we're promised is currently getting worked on (i think). And the last months of 2026 would probably dedicated to the other stuff like the events, soundtrack, and bug fixes. Very early 2027 we would maybe get some announcements and finally, the release video with the xDelta file.

I see, you (and the team) prefer cars that you'd rarely see in these types of racing games! I really like that! :)

Also, i'm also curious on the soundtrack. I better be hearing the most mental, deadass tunes while doing 90mph in a Ford Festiva

No real update on release date, I'd say 2027 is a hopeful estimate but I wouldn't expect early 2027. My basic plan is the final few months of development are dedicated to testing to make sure almost every bug and glitch is squashed so unfortunately it's the old "it's ready when it's ready" bit.

I won't reveal too much about the soundtrack just yet but it's set, it's fantastic and unlike other mods that alter the soundtrack the goal from the start has been "would you not go insane if you heard it on loop for 2 hours?" More difficult then you'd think. It's a mixture of 80's synth pop and blues and 90's rock, metal and big beat I'd struggle to call it massively beige because you'd end up with elevator music which would get very tiring after 10 minutes.

Obviously it won't be to everyone's taste but that's just how music works! You can always mute the music and play whatever you want while playing.

I don't know anything about music that much, but i think lyric-less instrumental would actually go well even though you play it over-and-over again, not well but atleast better than songs with actually lyrics. One of the things i'm not too fond of with GT2 is that you can't have multiple songs in a race. Everytime i boot up A-Spec and get into a race i can get some pretty alright music (in my taste) and get it looped 3 times. C'mon, i don't wanna "stahp dis song, i'm outta words" 25 times, once is enough! Maybe when i go into a different race and hear the song again it'll be fine but hearing the same song over-and-over again, even though i enjoy it is tiring! :irked:

Yeah unfortunately that's a GT2 issue, I feel A-Spec while an improvement over the base soundtrack suffers from the "I'm going insane after hearing it thrice" thing especially in the case of Sabotage and Rusty Cage which hopefully our soundtrack won't do.

Surprisingly I've already got a bit of an update because it's been a pretty productive weekend.

The Twingo has seen a remaster, I didn't mind the old model but the new one is next level!

The final bit of getting the car strings and replay names in is now complete aswell.
