I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it. I know, I know, I know.... I want you!

all you have to do is look at recent "sony in house studio releases"
it seems gone are the days of 1-3 month delays for regions.

Maybe look into releases for:
Gow 3 / killzone 2 / little big planet / resustance 2 / modnation racers / eye pet
i dont see why gt5 has to be different or does it?

Consider this again:
Sony 3dtv = worldwide hardware release in june & july
e3 = worldwide announcement / showcase
world cup = worldwide advertising possibility
gt5 = worldwide release after all above

it seems "summer" is ideal time to release.

3dtv promotions aside their are other games to fill the winter sales period: Little big planet 2 / killzone 3 and move. Plus other stuff we dont yet know of. It would also give the hardware sales a boost in the usually slower summer months.

+1!

And this whole deal about the shortage of PS3's is bullocks. If you go to any retailer on a Tuesday in the US, they will have PS3s available.

You're all wrong. Midnight tonight would be the most profitable time to release the game.

Because more people are drunk enough to spend $3000 on a game that's been completed in four hours (by Polyphony, no less... which would make it more like $30,000).

I was just saying. Imagine if GT 5 sold one million in it's first day.

Not sure I agree. Went to BestBuy today to stump around and.....no PS3 anywhere. Only a buttload of xbox360's and WiiWii's. Asked a saleschick who said they've been out for a couple of weeks.

Went to gamestop (same shopping center) and all they had were refurb fatty PS3's. Couldn't be bothered asking the dude behind the counter why.

I live in the 8th largest city in the US, and maybe I went to the wrong store, but the chick would have to get on the computer to find me one somewhere in town, if at all. (not saying, just saying) :sly:

Well, but also the shortages are happening right now. SONY can certainly ramp up production a bit in order to supply enough PS3s to support a certain flagship game release, not to mention a bunch of new Bravia sales. ;)

Wow, are you guys serious? A few years ago, you couldn't even say "PS3" and "Shortages" in the same sentence.

From the little tidbits I have read here and there, apparently one of the parts suppliers is what is causing the shortages.

Maybe the suppliers are getting sabotaged by MS, you know they play too much MW2.

There is probably a shortage because a new model PS3 (larger HDD) will likely be annouced at E3 so they want to get rid of whats currently on the shelves. It will probably be cheaper too so anyone wanting one now should probably hold out.

Robin.

^^ Seems possible, my 120GB Slim is proving to have a tiny space.

Does seem possible, lots of new features etc coming out, needing that extra HHD space, thinking about putting a 500GB myself from the stock 80GB.

Sony spokespeople came out on record on the shortages around the time GT5 was delayed.

I don't think I can agree with you on that. If ramping up production is all they had to do to supply more for game launches, then why haven't they done that already and bypass the whole shortage thing from the get go.

Respectfully

You will love your PS3 even more. I bought a 640gb hdd from newegg for $80.

Got tons of movies and demos on there.

You try having a 40gb fatty :P It's now running a 250gb laptop hdd so it's all good :]

And what did he say exactly?

Sony's senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold issued a statement after last night's NPD numbers for January, explaining that the company's flagship console may be a bit difficult to find at retail over the next few months. "We're working very hard with our retail partners to meet consumer interest, but the demand is tremendously high for the PS3 and we expect tight inventory in the coming months," Seybold notes in the statement.

As this is the first we've heard about any sort of PlayStation 3 hardware shortages, we followed up with Seybold to make sure he wasn't only warning about future supply issues, but also explaining January's sales of the console. He told us: "Yes. The strong demand carrying through the holidays was evident and early in the month we [knew] there was going to be limited supply of the PS3 at retail in January. We're working closely with the retail channel to meet this demand, but expect tight supply for the coming months."

I agree with you that was the point of my post. I was saying you can't just ramp up production.

EDIT: You must have edited your post because I don't see your text you typed before.

Yeah my brain somehow didn't register that we were making the same point, edited out your quote and my response from my last post.

That is what makes me believe that a summer launch won't happen. Just in my honest opinion. But I hope my opinion is totally wrong.

ps is IMHO allowed?

UPDATE: Sony has provided MCV with the following statement – "We will be announcing further details of Gran Turismo 5 in June in Los Angeles during the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Until that time we cannot comment on rumour or speculation."

Hopefully we'll only get further details and not further delays. :):ouch::dunce:

Release date, please.
Features list, please.
New trailer, please.
New tracks, please.
New cars, please.
New manufacturers, please.
New news, please.

Now we know E3 will have GT5 but why PD have you supported Move? I really can't express how disapointed I will be if this rumour is true. Make hardcore fans wait while you impliment a rip off (Wii) product that as far as I can see will be no use whatsoever to a GT game. I know Sony pay some wages but it's about time they stuck it to Sony and said NO.
