Oh, I'm sorry, where was the mocking?

F3 may have been rushed, but the fact is the T10 guys have created a franchise, and 3 games (on 2 systems) in the time between GT4 and 5. Accept that people who comment on the wait time aren't necessarily saying the game will be bad, either. I'm just saying PD suffers from a complete lack of deadlines. As for getting 3-5 years of gameplay out of it; you and I would both like that, but it's exactly what a company looking to make any kind of profit wouldn't want. Plus, the PS3 is already on it's 2nd stage... releasing your biggest game of the genre on the tail-end of the system's life doesn't make as much sense as leading with it... not that GT5 is unique here, GT3 blew it's release-title plans too.

Sorry my comment about mocking was a general observation not directed at you.

As for your comment about the PS3 heading towards the tail end of its life is laughable. If anything I feel the PS3 is only just coming to life.

As for Turn 10 and so what if they have released 3 games on two systems between GT4/5. This is why I said quality over quantity. Also lets remember PD have released GT HD, GT5P, GT PSP between GT4/5.

Hopefully when GT5 is released many will be saying "so thats why it took so long to develop".

New consoles/hardware always allow game developers to "redefine games" and move the goalposts in what can be achieved. Each new hardware evolution goes to making games, bigger, and more spectacular in various ways but also to increase the possible realisim or in general evolve gaming as entertainment in new ways not possible on the previous hardware. PS3 has not had a racing game that fully utilises the PS3 hardware and accesories yet.

Compared to X360 games and PS3 racing games their isnt a single one that comes close to what GT5 will deliver on a technical and gameplay level with all its combined features.
Please feel free to list a game that does if you disagree...

So whats the chances of this game with such a long development and as one of the most important releases ever for Sony actually not redefining the genre in how racing games on consoles are then benchmarked? Its a bet that Id bet for than against based on their past abilities.

Didnt previous if not all GT games released redfine in one way or another racing games but more often than not on a technical level too?

Regards "gimmick" comments to GPS if we dont know what it fully involves regards gameplay and have no experience in it how can this already be branded or judged? Maybe a steering wheel is a gimmick to some to others its a necessity. Maybe weather or night races to some are gimmicks to others they are a new challenge. So my advice is let people decide for themselves or at least when we can actually evaluate such things a group/general opinion can be formed. It all fine and well having an opinion assuming but if its based on no evidence or facts why or indeed how does that person opinion have much substance?

Those of you that want to live in the 90s and stick to playing the game on a joypad and hey possibly on a retro SDTV with poor sound are welcome to. I however feel that the actual experience with the same game and features wont offer the same experience to how its being developed in getting the total enjoyment the game can fully offer. Personally I applaud Polophony Digital and Sony for developing the game to be technically accomplished as possible. We dont know how long GT6 will be before release and 3DTV / Move could be great things for the future or indeed gimmicks that dont take off. The importance is the game will support them.

For some of us part of the whole excitment in gaming is experiencing games like this that fully utilise new technology to try and create a new level and standard of entertainment. Its one reason we upgrade to new consoles and some of us thrive not just on how a game plays but in how it may feel, look and sound. Look at it like Home Cinema and movies some films arent great films but they can be a visual and audio feast of entertainment. FM3 is another fine example it has serious issues and for me average as a longterm single player experience but playing it on the system I have it offers a great entertaining gaming experience.

GT5 for me offers what will likely be the most impressive racing game on a technical and entertainment level I will have ever played. Im not a PC gamer for a long time but GT5 as a console game looks likely to surpassing/redefining what past racing games I have played achieved. If it also has fantastic gameplay and presents itself as a well rounded sim then thats a bonus.

Who cares if it's revolutionary or not? What we've got is a game that will pretty much be a class above the rest regardless of whether it does anything new.

GT5's sheer quality and content is what will sell it. You know what, if GT5 had the content of GT4 (which it looks like it'll have) and has the graphics and the general upgrades introduced in GT5p then really, how can it fail?

If it's evolutionary then it's only evolved from the revolutionary game that was Gran Turismo way back in '97.

Absolutely spot on. I still remember vividly my initial shock and awe at watching the GT1 intro as I sat there wondering how on earth did they do this.

As for your last paragraph and again I agree. Obviously members finances dictate how you play GT5 but for me personally a steering wheel, HDTV, surround system is a must. I will definitely be buying a 3DTV in the future so I can fully appreciate GT5.

All the tech in the world is no good if you get dumb AI. I'm not having a go just stating my opinion. None of us as actually played it yet I'll reserve judgement till I play it. 16 players online at 60 fps sounds great on paper. When I play a full grid with no lag then I'll heap out the praise.

Oh and mr latte, where you say if it turns out to have fantastic gameplay and a well rounded sim then that's a bonus. I'd take those two features over everything else thank you.

Of course a bad game is always going to be flawed.
You miss the point that the game however it is will still offer different levels of immersion/entertainment depending on what level of system each player has.
Im recognising that appreciating the fact that its how PD have always pushed the console hardware they were developing on and such innovation should be praised not criticised.
3DTV is a particular example it gets subjected to great criticisim from people that havnt even tried it yet and yes it could be overrated but in the end it is in the game for those that may enjoy what it offers or only want to occasionaly use it. Some may not want to play in 3D but still enjoy replays or photos in 3D mode.

Also when GT5P released very few had 1080p displays but PD/Sony had the foresight in development to support it did people criticise it as too expensive and not much benifit or even a gimmick, well yes I remember some people on forums doing that back then but look at 1080p now.

Technology cant make a bad game good but it can make a good game great.

Wipeout in 3d was cut to 30 fps to make the grade. I hope GT doesn't have to make sacrifices also. Anyhow I can't afford the tv but good luck to those who who can.

Wow. So many swollen egos in this thread.

And are people still going on with that surround sound bs like it makes an actual difference?

*Waits for someone to misunderstand that comment.*

As for your comment about the PS3 heading towards the tail end of its life is laughable. If anything I feel the PS3 is only just coming to life.

I'm going by Sony's history; I said 2nd stage, and referred to tail-end because that's what the 2nd half is. The slimline versions of their systems have always been on the second half of the run. Seeing as how the PS3 is still plenty powerful currently though, sure, I hope it's staying for a long time. But if it follows the system shelf-life trend, and GT's trends continue to lengthen, GT5 will be the only iteration of the series on the system. Which is sad.

As for Turn 10 and so what if they have released 3 games on two systems between GT4/5. This is why I said quality over quantity. Also lets remember PD have released GT HD, GT5P, GT PSP between GT4/5.

Okay, quality vs quantity... GT HD was a glorified demo, still largely GT4-based. GT5P may have had the car/track numbers to compare to other racing games, but again, a demo. No other series pulls the "Prologue" stuff, because they understand the idea of releasing at a reasonable clip. GT PSP is lacking so much that makes the GT series what it is; no sim mode, very very limited and beginner-level tuning, and again, basically a GT4 port with physics more in line with GT5... oh, and about a dozen new cars. One could argue that really, GT PSP was the only real game that might've gotten in the way of GT5 development; the other two are just earlier versions of what they are still intending on releasing.

Hopefully when GT5 is released many will be saying "so thats why it took so long to develop".

I'm hoping so. Honestly, I want to be bowled over by the sheer scale of the thing, hence my original post saying I came in looking for leaked info. I want it to be good, because there's absolutely no excuse for it taking this long.

I sometimes wonder if there's politics involved as to why we haven't had a GT challenger properly introduced on the PlayStation...

This quote is bunk until the final copy of GT5 is in our hands. You and I have no idea what GT5 will carry. It's strange that only those that worship at the house of PD can make such definitive statements, but when there are people questioning any aspect of GT, those same followers will be quick to point out that nobody knows what the game will have, so the doubters should wait to pass judgement.

So whats the chances of this game with such a long development and as one of the most important releases ever for Sony actually not redefining the genre in how racing games on consoles are then benchmarked? Its a bet that Id bet for than against based on their past abilities.

GT3 was worse in nearly every way, bar graphics, than GT2. I'm sure to a lot of people who go on and on about a large TV and a huge sound system, the graphics alone were worth it, but I'm looking at a racing game for things other than eye candy and "life-like dandelions". It's impressive, but it doesn't improve the core experience of a racing game more than proper AI or more realistic physics. On that note; GT4's low-speed physics were utterly terrible, also a step backwards from the previous game.

This is what I mean; you disregard other, critical opinions because people label a new feature a gimmick. You, running on just as little evidence and facts as them, play up the game. Know why I'm not taking every wishful thinking idea as proof of a new feature? Time and time again we were told GT4 would have online racing. Hell, it was delayed for that excuse. And we never got it. PD has a habit of over-promising and under-delivering.

I won't deny they put a lot of effort into the entire presentation; but this isn't art first, then business.

Games are a business, and it seems not a single person on staff at PD understands this. Someone needs to give KY a hard deadline and stick to it; after that, polish all that you do have, and release, and anything you wanted to implement but didn't, put towards the next installment. The GPS thing, for instance. We live in a time of DLC, it's not impossible to even update a title post-release anymore. And before you give the argument of "well, if they were forced to release early, we'd miss out on stuff/it would be rushed/wouldn't feel complete"... then why ever release, right?

Now now, if you're really going to go on about the intros... Moon over the Castle > Cardigans:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8O3dqSaAV8&feature=related

:)

It's not hard feelings; I just find the double-standard here frustrating. Any criticism of GT/PD/KY is immediately turned into people not liking the game. Not the case; I love this damn series, it paid my tuition for a year. Doesn't mean I can't have a desire for them to not take over half a decade to create the next installment!

Nothing can beat Moon over the Castle. I hope they bring it back, again :P

You accept we can't be certain of things... but you're certain of GT5's status as your go-to racer until GT6 arrives (which, by current trends, is probably around 2020)? ;)
Yes. GT5 is going to be my go to racer for years, most likely. Of all the racing games I have now on three systems, the ones I keep playing are GT4 and Prologue, because nothing else can match all their features or quality. I actually quit playing Forza 3 in November because the bugs absolutely killed it for me, the first Forza I haven't finished.

I log back into the planet for the first time in months hoping that maybe there's some leaked info before E3.
Well, that was more than a little hopeful, seeing as nothing about GT5 has been leaked in five years, and E3 is so close. You might as well grouch that you didn't win the lottery.

F3 may have been (was) rushed, but the fact is the T10 guys have created a franchise, and 3 games (on 2 systems) in the time between GT4 and 5.
They actually created two games between GT4 and 5. Forza 1 was made concurrently with GT4.

I will have to say though that every Forza game has had issues that I hated with a passion, from murderous tardish bot A.I., a livery editor with no fonts, and graphic issues such as framey 30fps visuals and environment reflections that stuttered badly in Forza 1; a broken livery system in Forza 2, nauseating tire sounds, promised content cut out, and the same lame driver views as F1 among other things; and in Forza 3, broken file handling, an appallingly bad photo sharing system, the same revolting tire sounds, and a brain dead online system which worked fine in F2, among other things. And as I said, F3 was so gimped that I haven't played it sine November, and haven't even assembled my 360 Leet since Christmas, and that was for the family. Hint: no one even bothered with it, they were all too wrapped up in the PS3 and Wii.

Honestly, I want to be bowled over by the sheer scale of the thing, hence my original post saying I came in looking for leaked info. I want it to be good, because there's absolutely no excuse for it taking this long.
Well, many people think this way, so it's up to them to judge. But as for me, Prologue is of such high quality and gives me such an authentic drive that it resembles PC sims in feel. The graphics certainly smoke everything in racing games. The Time Trial demo surpasses most of my racing games, and rivals the best PC sims for me, especially since the sims are such niche games with a very narrow focus and very few cars with minor differences between them. Not to leave off PS2-in-HD level graphics.

I sometimes wonder if there's politics involved as to why we haven't had a GT challenger properly introduced on the PlayStation...
Have you forgotten ToCA? If it wasn't for the stupidity of Codemasters, we might have one. No, it's the fact that no one can afford the headaches and almost certain failure to compete against the Master and his team. Codies basically wrote off ToCA, and Konami, Enthusia.

You and I have no idea what GT5 will carry. It's strange that only those that worship at the house of PD can make such definitive statements, but when there are people questioning any aspect of GT, those same followers will be quick to point out that nobody knows what the game will have, so the doubters should wait to pass judgement.
I find it ironic that you in essence accuse people here of being defensive by being defensive yourself. ;)

GT3 was worse in nearly every way, bar graphics, than GT2.
Wow, I don't agree with this at all. I will say that the only two things better about GT2 are the car and track count, and the race mod system. Everything else about it, including physics, are more primitive.

I'm sure to a lot of people who go on and on about a large TV and a huge sound system, the graphics alone were worth it, but I'm looking at a racing game for things other than eye candy and "life-like dandelions". You post as if you've never even seen Prologue. The A.I. is improved. The physics are more realistic. If you disagree, well, I insist you aren't familiar with the Gran Turismo series at all.

Know why I'm not taking every wishful thinking idea as proof of a new feature? Time and time again we were told GT4 would have online racing. Hell, it was delayed for that excuse. And we never got it. PD has a habit of over-promising and under-delivering.
This is hardly fair. GT4 Online simply wasn't feasible. Tens of millions of PS2s wouldn't work online. My PS2 is supposed to work with the broadband adaptor, but it won't do more than ping a server, I don't know why. It would have been a PR disaster for SONY to release a new GT which wouldn't work as advertised. And picking one point to say that PD overpromises is a bit far fetched, to be polite.

It seems that Gran Turismo is some people's favorite whipping boy, for whatever reason. Microsoft produces a product which somehow manages to be more unreliable than a Yugo, and everyone forgives them. Go figure. But actually I understand. Human beings aren't the most balanced beings. We have heavy biases, and are fickle. Many times we lack proper perspective. We play favorites, it's part of our sordid history.

All I can say is that GT5 will be what it is. If you don't think the five years' investment was worth it, oh well. It's still going to sell like tacos, and we're going to enjoy it to whatever extent we please. And no matter what any other game offers, it probably won't match it. You are right that Polyphony has a track record, and it's producing a game which has more quality, content, fun factor, and sold more than a mere handful of other titles. And that's a reputation which is hard to say anything about.

Now now, if you're really going to go on about the intros... Moon over the Castle > Cardigans:

Personally, I always loved the Chemical Brothers remix of Everything Must Go by the Manic Street Preachers on the UK version of GT1.

Okay... and I know others who still play F3 on a regular basis, and stopped playing any GT years ago. Diff'rent strokes, that's not proof of either "side".

Well, that was more than a little hopeful, seeing as nothing about GT5 has been leaked in five years, and E3 is so close. You might as well grouch that you didn't win the lottery.

What about the printed media naming a december release from last year?

They actually created two games between GT4 and 5. Forza 1 was made concurrently with GT4.

Well, it did come out later, so I'm technically still correct ;). But even then, I can look back as to when both started development.

Okay...

GT1: Actually, I can't think of any real glitches with this. The one and only!
GT2: Where to start? The bad math that meant many NTSC players couldn't get 100%? The random garage-erasing bug, the only vague connection being to stay away from the Machine Test? "Freaky physics", which completely destroyed any semblance of realism? Erroneous AI/race matchups (a 700hp Vector showing up in a race limited to 300hp)?
GT3: Lack of (R) mods, vastly smaller lineup, incredibly stupid tire wear model, some very poorly thought out races (Vitz @ Test Course). Bonus could be the best physics of the "full" games, although it's still flawed; touchy as hell with anything other than a wheel, GT4 allows more tiny adjustments, but sacrifices any hint at proper low speed physics.
GT4: I can just cut/paste from your complaints about Forzas, actually. "murderous tardish bot A.I.", "nauseating tire sounds, promised content cut out"... I'd say it had a lousy livery editor... but wait, GT didn't even have one. Nor did it have online.

Minor differences? Really? They don't have GT's sprawling model differences, I'll readily admit (nothing does), but plenty of the PC sims offer a good chunk of variety. Yes, the Time Trial demo felt great; and oddly enough, it seems GT PSP has physics set up to closely mirror it, at least imo. After the cock-up that was GT4 physics, it's good to see, and I know that aspect of GT5 will be safe.

Have you forgotten ToCA? If it wasn't for the stupidity of Codemasters, we might have one. No, it's the fact that no one can afford the headaches and almost certain failure to compete against the Master and his team. Codies basically wrote off ToCA, and Konami, Enthusia.

Yes-ah Mastah, anything for Mastah. Thanks for reminding me that Konami needs to focus on a sequel, because Enthusia was, and still is, excellent.

I find it ironic that you in essence accuse people here of being defensive by being defensive yourself. ;)

I'm sure you'll find more irony.

Wow, I don't agree with this at all. I will say that the only two things better about GT2 are the car and track count, and the race mod system. Everything else about it, including physics, are more primitive.

So... you've got graphics and physics as the only things you can specifically list? From how many times they've been mentioned, I understand graphics are high on the list for you. Fair enough. The physics were actually only slightly deeper than GT2; the non-racing tires got more realistic grip levels, and aero stuff was tinkered to disallow the crazy freaky physics of 2. We took the huge loss of the racing mods, and the hundreds of cars. No improvement to the AI, no increased number of cars on track, if GT3 is not the weakest link in the series, I'd love to hear what is.

You post as if you've never even seen Prologue. The A.I. is improved. The physics are more realistic. If you disagree, well, I insist you aren't familiar with the Gran Turismo series at all.

. No, not at all. You got me.
The AI is inconsistent at best. Sometimes it seems improved, other times it won't even acknowledge the player's presence. The physics are more realistic, yes... I've already admitted as much. Re-read what you quoted; I'm just shocked at how much of an importance is placed on graphics as opposed to other, more integral parts of a racing/simulation game.

Fair? What's this have to do about fair? They shouldn't have said anything, then. Saves the whole issue. Delaying a game for what becomes a non-existent feature was a cop-out. I'll say it's not PD's fault Sony dropped the ball in regards to online and how shoddy it was. As for being a PR disaster... GT2? They survived :)

Over-promises: They've mentioned damage since GT2 (few people remember we did get mechanical damage then, but since it wasn't all graphics-related, that's probably why). After that, it disappeared from the series, but was mentioned every time a new game was coming.

It seems that Gran Turismo is some people's favorite whipping boy, for whatever reason. Microsoft produces a product which somehow manages to be more unreliable than a Yugo, and everyone forgives them.

Flip the PD/Turn 10 implications, and how is this statement any less true?

Go figure. But actually I understand. Human beings aren't the most balanced beings. We have heavy biases, and are fickle. Many times we lack proper perspective. We play favorites, it's part of our sordid history.

Oh hey look, there's that irony again.

All I can say is that GT5 will be what it is. If you don't think the five years' investment was worth it, oh well. So... does Sony PR just send you a check in the mail? Or what?

...congrats on another up-in-arms finale. You don't get it; I like the games. I'm sure I'll own GT5. It doesn't mean that, shock, horror, I can't criticize the company behind it for poor time management.

Cry more. Of course there is no info on the game because there is still 8 days for E3... meaning I'm sure they'll keep a tight lip on their highest funded game Sony owns.

The quality of posts in this thread are drastically slipping, keep it on topic guys. If there's nothing worth discussing about E3 right now, then don't discuss anything, simple!

E3 will change the minds and colour of the hearts of these ever so negative, impatient individuals.

To those impatient, negative, pessimist individuals; let me explain something to you.
Polyphony Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment have worked very hard on this game and spent more money on it than you can even begin to imagine. It's no one's fault that it's taken this long. Okay maybe they could have released more information about it but they didn't.. so what?

When this game finally does release - and it will, this year - I can bet you will buy it after you've seen the full, finished product in action on your mate's TV or in a shop or something. Just calm down, be patient, and you will soon see that getting your knickers in a knot will not make the game release any sooner.

Sorry, back on topic now.

I would like to see more of WRC this year, so far all we've seen of that is a snippet from last year's E3 Trailer. Also confirmation of more licenced racing series'.
Perhaps that could be included in the new 3 minute long trailer we'll see.

Well, to be fair Heath_1, how much they spent is irrelevant (but I can imagine quite a large number). Sales of the GT series as a whole have been more than enough to fund development without borrowing money. Lifetime sales of GT5 itself will more than cover the development costs, so yes, what we end up with is a game where a lot of hard work and passion has gone into it.

As for being nobody's fault, I disagree. It may be the reason why it ends up as good as we hope, but Kaz's way of developing games (i.e. having no defined end point and never being happy with it) is precisely why the game has taken so long. It's also the reason why it contains so much, so it's a double-edged sword.

On the whole though, I agree, people just need to calm down because once it does release, I'd say 99.9% of those bothered enough to post on here will be getting it day one regardless.

Okay... and I know others who still play F3 on a regular basis, and stopped playing any GT years ago. Diff'rent strokes, that's not proof of either "side".
Well, except IVOR is right about the empty servers. Most people kind of don't like the offline career system, and frankly I think it's weird, so make of that what you will.

What about the printed media naming a december release from last year?
That was a weird deal. SONY Japan basically lied to the rest of the SONY regional divisions in order to torpedo sales of FM3. It might have worked, might not, but it did irritate the fans a lot. I've never been able to figure them out, like forcing Kaz to produce GT PSP first. Like, WTH? But you'll have to take that up with them, as if it would do any good. Japan is Japan, and the rest of us are barbarians to the old suits.

Hmm... I know people try and make a case that Forza is just as flakey as GT, but you'll have to point me to board riots similar to the ones at the Forza boards. And keep in mind that the official boards are as controlled as the country of North Korea, where you can be banned on a whim.

Let me guess, you haven't played FM1 so you can't recall being ganged up on by the bots in FM1 to crush your car, or one of them deliberately park in the shadows of Sunset Speedway so you would wreck into it. I saved replays. ;)

I know a handful of people whine about the tire sounds in GT games. I suppose you could complain that everything whines like a midsized car. However, in FM2 and 3, it's the only time I've heard a Miata sound like it had truck tires. The thing that baffles me is why they changed the sounds from FM1, which were pretty darn nice. Maybe they were too close to Gran Turismo's. Meanwhile, I've routinely heard tire screeches very much like GT4's outside my windows, as I live next to a rather treacherous intersection - at least because of the way the kids drive these days, and it covers everything from small sporties to an occasional Buick, go figure.

Minor differences? Really? They don't have GT's sprawling model differences, I'll readily admit (nothing does), but plenty of the PC sims offer a good chunk of variety.
Yes, really. I can think of rFactor as far as some variety - of fantasy cars which don't exist, but I'd rather not. The user interface is so wretchedly designed, it took me almost half an hour to find something as basic as manual/auto tranny selection! Meh... But GTR or whatever? No.

Yes-ah Mastah, anything for Mastah. Thanks for reminding me that Konami needs to focus on a sequel, because Enthusia was, and still is, excellent.
Frankly, I think it blows, and more people around the planet share my view, because it bombed badly. The game is absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, like the demo video. It got me excited. Then I tried the game, and tried, and tried, and got very angry. It drives nothing like any racing game, and I don't mean because it's nore realistic. I really appreciate the fact that tires don't begin their whispering "whine" until I'm on my way off the track. Oh wait, no I don't.

So... you've got graphics and physics as the only things you can specifically list? From how many times they've been mentioned, I understand graphics are high on the list for you. Fair enough. The physics were actually only slightly deeper than GT2; the non-racing tires got more realistic grip levels, and aero stuff was tinkered to disallow the crazy freaky physics of 2. We took the huge loss of the racing mods, and the hundreds of cars. No improvement to the AI, no increased number of cars on track, if GT3 is not the weakest link in the series, I'd love to hear what is.
So... you hate GT2, but you love it more?? I'm confused. ;)

The bold part reminds me of real life racing. You'll have to clarify. For the rest... wut? For someone who you seem to accuse of being a graphics junkie, you're ignoring how much I remark about the feeeeeeeeeeeeel of a game. Oh well.

Uhm... *shakes head*

In any case, you can stop whining about online. Last time I checked, Prologue did offer online functionality. Just a head's up.

Over-promises: They've mentioned damage since GT2 (few people remember we did get mechanical damage then, but since it wasn't all graphics-related, that's probably why). After that, it disappeared from the series, but was mentioned every time a new game was coming.
Well... that's a whopping two "broken" promises. But you're right, and the way Polyphony has treated their fans has driven millions of them to other game... well, maybe not... I mean, seeing as most racing fans have more than GT in their game list. I do, of course they mostly gather dust right now...

Frankly, I think you're making points that matter to no one but you and a handful of malcontents who like to complain out of habit. Like I say, PC sim fans are happy to tinker with their handful of cars while they wait for their semi-annual rebadge of practically the same game, and diehard Forza fanz glom onto every iteration of this short lived franchise - however, there are a lot of pitchforks raised in the ranks of Forza gamers, and those are brave souls, let me tell you.

Flip the PD/Turn 10 implications, and how is this statement any less true?
That Forza is as buggy as Windoze? Or that the 360 for two years had a nearly 70% failure rate? Sorry, I'm not seeing a similarity here...

So... does Sony PR just send you a check in the mail? Or what?
Yep, they reward me with a shiny new copy of Gran Turismo at retail price when the game gets stamped into platters and stuck in little plastic boxes. You got me there. :D

You "all things being equal" guys really are funny. Especially when your last remark, the one I blotted out referring to "time management", has nothing whatsoever to do with your entire rant. Because all things aren't equal. And when every game gets released, the sales pretty much say the last word on the subject. So, rather than grouse about past games and laying it by fiat on GT5, watch the E3 presentation and give us your pearls of wisdom. It's only eight days off, hardly a small eternity. Buy the game - like I will - and get back to us on it.

People need to realize that PD have also had to make GT5p and GTPSP as they were making GT5. So technically they have made 2.5 games over 5 years which is 1 game per year, which is perfectly normal. Thats the schedule for just about every major dev.

Hey true that! And last year's E3 was mainly focused on GTPSP anyway.. So that would pretty much explain why there was such limited information on GT5.

Wow, I didn't even realise how close we are. Next week will be here in a flash.
Oh plz E3, gve us the goodies that we so crave...lol

If we assume that work started after GT4 launched in December 2004, and GT5 launches this year, it will have been 5.5 - 6 years in the making. If you include GT5P and GTPSP into the mix, that's three games in 6 years, making it 1 game every 2 years. Not bad, apart from it's not all about averages is it?!

GT mobile was shown to the world at E3 2004. Over five years later it emerged in the form of GTPSP, rich in content but not in game modes. Far from being a completely new build, it clearly used assets from GT4 as well as aspects of developments from GT5.

As for GT5P, that game was released purely as part of the natural development path on the way to GT5. It generated revenue, but it also gave them a huge test bed. It's not like they built GT5P as a separate game just to please the fans, then started completely from scratch again with GT5 as we know it.

The fact is, it was over 5 years from promo to GTPSP, and it will be over 5 years from GT4 to GT5. That's not a typical schedule for every major dev.
