But reading through your comments, you seemed to be upset that you need 20 car to fill a grid. I'm confused at the issue?

GT8 will likely skip the PS4, so it stands to reason the single player events will be made up of Sophy races. That should address the issue of having to buy cars.
Some folks will still want to do custom races even if Sophy is in, because the game probably won't have specific years of Super GT etc. in. There should be a way to customise each car individually for AI, including liveries, from one root car. So one car can have tuning sheets basically but for visual customisation and liveries as well. And you could choose this when assigning cars to AI.

Whenever I see sensible things like this I figure they probably won't happen because that would be too easy. 🤣🤣🤣

Yes. Buy 1 car and be able to load different tunes and liveries on it.
Ah, I see. So, a variation on the "One make". Like a "One Make Cup"...so it takes your car's setting and does a one make of tuned cars more or less the same (like all at 600pp or something).

The game could read the most popular user generated liveries, but there might be a licensing issue with that. As in, cigarette advertising is banned and if the developer creates a tool that could possible select a cigarette advertiser, that's a fine for Sony. Also, since many of the liveries are unlicensed usage, there's that whole legal issue.

So, it's possible, but unlikely.

It's not just for one make. For a SuperGT grid one would need to buy like 5 Supra GT500 and Gtr GT500. Feels like a waste of money.

Overthinking it. Literally just needs a "Load Style" button in the "Adjust Grid" custom race dropdown that would let you pick from saved styles or from GT Auto direct.

Actually the "style" is a great idea.

Personally, I want to edit the driver as well as the cars. I want to change their suits and helmets to match names. Then, we should be able to save a grid "style", which would include the cars, the liveries, the driver names, driver suits, and helmet styles. Basically, the same as the car styles. It would probably need to contain the setting sheet for each car as well. Then, share the race styles for others to download.

Like the way your personal liveries and downloaded styles are now

So you would only need one car, the rest would be part of the style. They never go to your garage. Maybe they could add a PP slider for you to play with as part of the difficulty. I'm finding the cars are really will balanced in the Sophy races when I use a specific PP target

I captured my 2025 F1 grid as an example - You, as a player, own one F3500 and style it as you wish. Then, you can download a race style, which would contain the rest of the cars (and liveries, driver names, etc).

… and then the game hits you with, “Would you like to take out a loan?” when you try access this set up.

Yes, this has been suggested multiple times before. Would be amazing. Download grid for 6 million credits and you're set. Give a like and show most popular grids in showcase.

Ya, but done right, you don't need to pay anything. A "style" would be the same as any other single player event. When you play single player, you don't need to buy any cars. So a custom race style should work the same.

I am new in this custom races because I’m done with the game “career mode”

Is the a way to set time cycles as the weather. A 10 lap race on lemans on lemans a set it a 24 hours cycle ?

Some observations and discoveries from that Abarth Cup race.

  • First up, driving slow cars fast is so much fun and this bodes will for the GT8 single player IF it is completely powered by Sophy.
  • This makes me SUPER anxious for Sophy support with the Suzuki Carry
  • Balancing this car has been quite the challenge, minor differences can have a huge impact, and this brings back the fun of tuning.
  • That tuning element needs to part of a potential custom race "style", because the balance of the cars can make or break the event.
All in all, I highly recommend it, but you might want to stick to only upgrading the brakes and tires to avoid the tuning.

I am new to the custom races, you choose one make race in options or do you have to pick up 20 Abarths from the garage and tuning the 20 of them?

When you choose one make race what’s the PP of the opponents, are they stock?

Thanks.

I have an old swapped civic and I choose select opponents from garage, set it on professional and those Civics a real real slow.

You sadly need to get 20 Abarths & tune each one individually. Not much of a problem for the Abarths, a much bigger problem for other cars (glares at the retro GT500s).

Pretty much what digitdan said. It's painstaking but worth it in the end. Right now I'm on truck number 14 in the Carry group. 6 more to mod.
A good car too is something like the Civic touring car. Just leave them all as is in settings, maybe tire change. But other than that, it's a pretty fun car out of the box. I've bought almost all I need but still have to do individual liveries.

Thank you for your replies.

I’m the case of the Civic Touring car if I get one and use the same from the garage it would be a competitive race. You only need 20 cars in case you want different liveries.

@LANDO we also buy 20 cars to create slight differences in tunes so Sophy doesn’t just drive in a conga line.

It’s a LOT of clicking around (and VERY expensive, at the top end) but usually worth it for those that have made it to this thread! I liked your appropriate use of quotation marks re: “career mode,” you may enjoy what @Theufcveteran put together as a reward for slogging through chase the rabbit - “Integrale,” in my signature.

Welcome to Custom Race! :D

It is a full custom race where I select opponents from the garage. I only have 9 Abarths. I limit the field to 19, 18 Sophy cars (2 of each) and then myself.

I have always liked the Abarth, but it's behaviour makes it a fantastic car for training. It rewards being smooth and punishes your mistakes. In stock form, the brakes make Sophy lose control in the corners. Racing tires and racing brakes fix that. I add the racing crank shaft for higher revs.

It's a great challenge.

For those who want to build that Abarth custom race, because it's AMAZING, I use these three 550pp RH builds. These are well balanced against each other and give you some variations in the racers. I'm sharing because this car can hit exactly 550pp in a million ways, but these are the three fastest that I have found, and I have been trying for a bit.

All cars have widebody (important for that PP). All cars have 17inch wheels and wide tires.

Build 1 - Lighter and quicker. WIDE offset. (that's important, it doesn't work without it)

EDIT - The suspension settings that work best are a little different than this photo. All the cars have this:
Height 125
bars 7
compression 30
rebound 50
Front springs 2.60 Rear 2.70

Build 2 - This version has more pull for the straights. This build requires the STANDARD offset.

Build three - The version is fastest on one lap, but it's slight less stable. Again, WIDE offset is necessary but NO increase in body rigidity.

Build one. Just one. You will be happy you did.

That Sophy Abarth race has become a bit of an addiction :)

WhatsApp Image 2025-05-25 at 16.53.00_76387c6c.jpg

So, here is the end result of three different, but balanced tunes (it's only 3 laps). Note the aggression levels of Lewis Hamilton (T1, L1) and my battle with George Russel for two laps. This bodes VERY well for the GT8 single player that is, hopefully, using Sophy.

Also, I wanted to point out, I did a 10 lap race after this and I benefitted from the chopping and changing in the field. Very different top 5 finishing order (aside from myself)

Y'all have inspired me; I may have to start posting vids of my Sophy 590 Cup races. I need to finish tuning Letty's Sylvia/240 for the group before I unleash that bad chicken. One of the things I love is how different cars are more of a challenge to beat depending on how many laps I select.

GREAT times. It's pulling me away from online racing more and more.

SOPHY RIVALS

I've been loving the Sophy races, but, at the end of the day, they're still a little slow and the game play is still about you filtering through the pack. I wanted to fix that and I was confident that I could given the way Sophy behaves. I wanted Sophy to be able to mimic the "Rivals" that I remember from Super Monaco GP. So, I took the Abarth race and I decided to prototype the idea.

In short, with Super Monaco, you didn't have to win the race. You simply had to beat your rival, which was called out in game. It was crude, but the idea was solid. I decided to try and achieve the same thing. I created the Sophy Rival. What I did was create a Sophy specific livery, and gave the drivers the name "Rival Driver" (1, 2, and 3). Then, I set their performance points 5% higher than the rest. So, this field of cars are 550 and the rivals are 575.1. I was careful to balance that so they weren't simply higher HP or lower weight, but a mix of the two.

Now, so far, I have only tested this with the "boost weak" setting, but this is super promising. This is how the single player campaign should be. I am going to build a few more Sophy rivals for my different custom races and see how it works.

I hope someone at Polyphony sees this. It would be SUPER easy to implement as a single player feature. The big draw is that they actually race you. You aren't simply lapping people at a track day.
