I wouldn't sell the current youth short. They are already glued to phones and tablets. Giving them new technology to look at screens with glasses, at will and hands-free, probably wouldn't due out. It's less gimmicky with multiple uses.

Me and my wife will be 52 this year. We've seen how fast technology advanced in 20 years. Well see how the market take to the advancement of VR.

As for VR and wheels, I don't have a wheel. We'll see how wheel users feel when/if players get the headset. Some complain about having the wheel Visible in cockpit mode as it is.
Do some wheels users need to see the button functions? Are some wheel users more intuitive with the button functions?
Wil be interesting to know how the hardcore wheel users feel about the headset.

3d TV's didn't take on in part because people didn't want to wear the 3d glasses.
I think 3D TVs didn’t take on because the 3D effect was bad and didn’t add to the experience. Same can’t be said VR.

They will get the size down eventually.

I firmly believe VR will take off one day - I do think it’s held back right now because they ****ed up the initial launch of the technology. They got too excited and blew their load too early.

First of all there is no good cheap option for VR headset. This is why it can’t get mass popularity. Second smartphones and cheap VR addons for them are ruining first contant for a lot of consumers. They think this is what it is never trying real VR headset.

This is why it will stat nieche probably.

You’re basically repeating what I’m saying.

Except for the part where you conclude the tech is bound to stay niche forever.

Either way - non of us has a crystal ball.

Very excited for GT7 VR - booyah!

There are many reasons, including picture quality as you allude to, poor viewing angles and a biggie, expensive glasses, but one of the reasons was people didn't fancy putting glasses on to watch TV either. So it became a very expensive novelty for a minority of peope who bought one and it's wider applicatation has reverted back to people going to see the odd movie in 3d at the cinema instead.

Gotta say I'm kind of shocked the updates are winding down now. Some of the additions were good (I'm still enjoying the heck out of Watkins Glen) but man, GT7 just doesn't feel complete for some reason. GT4 spoiled the hell out of me I guess. I have to accept I'll never see another GT game with that many cars, tracks and decent 'career' mode with plenty of races to do.

The Quest 2 has sold at about the same rate as the Xbox Series consoles over the last few years. I'd call that mass market already personally.

I don't think one missed month while PD prepares the PSVR2 update means that updates are winding down, but I agree that it doesn't feel complete.

I didn't expect the first 9 content updates to be so much less substantial compared to GT Sport, and certainly couldn't have imagined last April that repalying the four high-reward races would be the whole endgame.

Hopefully, this little pause gives the updates time to wind up, and we can have a fun 2023 with more legendary original circuits returning, online drift trials, Pikes Peak, Championships/GT League, and with a little bit of luck, more Daihatsu!

I want PD to implement an FOV slider, add different interior view camera angles, and more importantly, give us the option to remove the driver's hands and/or steering wheel.

Because seeing your avatar animated for only 360° of wheel rotation when you can personally do up to 1080° on your rig is going to break immersion, especially in VR. Hell, even in conventional play, the animation looks goofy.

Explain to me why the original Assetto Corsa, released in 2014 and made by a much smaller dev team, has proper steering animation compared to Granturismo 7 made by a larger dev team and backed by a major conglomerate at one of their in-house game studios.

I think VR headsets will always be niche because they aren't comfortable. A TV sits on a cabinet or wall, a mobile phone sits in your pocket or hand, 3d TV's didn't pick up because they sit on your face (the glasses not the TV), VR headsets sit on your entire head. I just don't see any scenario where most people come home from work, crash on the sofa and choose to stick a VR headset on over just watching the TV. There's room for improvement, making them less bulky and easier to store away with fewer wires etc. but I don't see them becoming mainstream. Maybe they will, but at the moment I can't see it.
I don't see them becoming mainstream either. I know it's a cool piece of technology but I see it as a vanity item that is only used sparingly. I for one am not desperate to get my hands on VR, even if it was cheaper.

How do you know they are winding down? For all we know they’ve missed January because they are winding up the updates!!

I should add though, that I think the updates will carry on as they were for another year or two at least!

You must be shocking yourself a lot with baseless conclusions?

I have a theory that the drought in monthly content over the first year was due to most of PD's resources being pooled into working on the VR version of the game. If this is the case, we should hopefully see bigger and better updates for GT7 following the VR update.

If I'm wrong, then we know most of their team is dedicated to working on GT8 instead.
I suspect something like this too, or to be precise, that they were really holding back content for the launch of VR (events like them Nenkai posted on his twitter), so that even day 1 buyers of GT7 have enough reason to get back in and buy a PSVR2. The thought behind it could be that if players have completed the whole game (and there’s a lot), maybe wouldn’t see it as enough reason to spend 600€ just to play these events again in VR.
But I’m a little optimistic here.

I really hope you're right. There were a lot of cool events in that list that dearly need to come back. I mean, Super GT events? The Red Bull cup? Legends Grand Prix? PD are sitting on an absolute goldmine here.

At the moment GT is interesting for league racing. Just Online TT and then some laps for the next race. I don't do much more in the game right now.

I don't understand why they declare all the updates before as December-Update, November-Update if they don't do it that way anymore as there was no new content in January.
It shows a monthly rhythm before and now most people are waiting, because of what they done before.
In December they add new contents two times, right after it there was a statement that they add updates not regularly. Now we see, it was the last big announcement of the game...

So for me, I can wait to months for the next update, no problem. But as the time between updates becomes longer, I want to see more new content than before - not just cars which is alright in a monthly rhythm.

So, winding down to prepare winding up? Sorry, that doesn't make much sense and smells of copium.

I've got one, too: For all we know PD consider GT7 to be "complete" now content wise and will focus on fixes/patches for the PSVR2 portion of the game from now on. Non-PSVR2 buyers (myself included) can basically go pound sand and dream of what GT7 could have been.

Of course, all our speculations would be unnecessary if PD actually chose to communicate with us what they're up to, like a proper roadmap and not just Kaz spouting his pipe dreams and visions from time to time.

I've got a question about a quote from this clip:

At 0:19 Jim Ryan says "...and through a free upgrade, PSVR2 players will be able to experience the game like never before"

What does he mean by "upgrade"? Does this possibly mean that as an owner of PSVR2, you will be offered a free upgrade to the digital PS5 version of GT7 if you already have the digital PS4 version?

No, there's no suggestion of a PS4 to PS5 version upgrade. It's an upgrade of GT7 to support PSVR2, whereas the public build currently does not.

I see, so he actually meant update. My 25th AE came with a physical edition of GT7 for PS5 and a digital PS4 version. I was hoping to get my hands on the digital PS5 version this way since there's no cheap upgrade path for me.

Nonsense. They skipped 1 (one!) month and are currently preparing the biggest and most fundamental update the game and maybe even the franchise has ever seen. Nothing indicates they are winding down. Stop being so dramatic.

What about this VR stuff was so taxing that they needed a month off from what they usually add? Did the modelers have to do things to each individual car and track to make them compatible or something? Though there isn't anything really indicating overwork, I think PD is just lightening the load its employees by giving them some time to breathe, which is fair enough.

It was probably a combination of the fact that the entire studio had a two week vacation at the end of December and a lot of their employees likely used their vacation time to extend that break. So it would have been hard on the team to push out a January update with roughly half the time they usually have to do so. Given that they knew the PSVR2 update had to be out in mid-February, it probably just made more sense for them to roll whatever they had for January into that instead.

I bet it's gonna have some new cars. Maybe a new track? That I doubt, but for the new cars, people who have that PSVR pre-ordered will have a blast getting to look at the new cars
