Fact of the matter is the majority of people do not seem to be interested in it. I mean 100,000 people bought that dedicated PC sim, even if that many people were interested in something like that in GT it's still a tiny amount of people compared to overall sales.

Something like TDU with realistic phyiscs I can see interest in somewhat but something uber-realistic like that? I don't see how it'd be worth PDs time.

Even though you don't want free roam, a whole lot of other people do. Have you read any of the posts in this thread?
Indeed I have, although it seems to me that rather a lot of people expect something like they'd see in NFS titles or Test Drive: Unlimited. Something like that would be completely out of place in a GT game. And if you had a free roam mode where you were forced to drive as you do on the real road, where would the enjoyment be in that?

Really the only way it would be possible in a GT game would be to have no police, little traffic and no rules to obey. But honestly I can't see PD doing that since it's not very realistic; one of the other reasons that I can't see them replicating the sort of free roam mode in NFS & TDU. So I personally can not see the point in free roam being included.

And yet if the feature were there, a lot of GT players would make use of it.
Besides, there's that brilliant Henry Ford quote someone once brought up, where he admitted that if he'd asked his customers what they "wanted" they'd have simply said "faster horses". Now look at us.

I honestly think we'd be looking at some sort of middle ground here; TDU occupies one end of the spectrum whilst that "sim" occupies the other. The reason people "don't seem to be interested" is because people keep telling them it'd either be TDU or that "sim", and play on ideas of coolness or so-called realism and how it's not in keeping with GT's spirit, or whatever. The fact of the matter is, it wouldn't; it'd be GT with fewer boundaries, and it's Kaz's own comments about working on "Free Roam" that have opened up this line of discussion in the first place.

How many people would have thought photomode would have been worth PD's time? That was hardly in the spirit of Gran Turismo up to that point - you can't even drive the cars!

Well my idea is to have the same city that GT5 had from its main menu which rarely appears at times, or it was just used there which I hope it wasn't. It should be complete since I have many ideas that's about to be shared. It can even be the all new GT Life mode with rules of the road and obeying the speed limit kind of style, being online/offline. It doesn't have to be a big city, but make sure theres many districs to drive too for hangouts.

Home Garage
Of course, every GT game must always have a home garage, no matter what. The home garage is you store your cars in with no limit added.

GT Air Lines
The airport called GT Air Lines (Gran Turismo Air Lines) can be the new phototravel, for players to travel the world to take photos of any (PREMIUM) car and avatar.

NCD (New Car Dealership) & UCD (Used Car Dealership)
The new (PREMIUM) car dealerships could be located everywhere in the city for each manufacturers. While the used (PREMIUM) car dealership is located at some parts of it or outside of it.

GT Auto
The new GT Auto is also located at some parts of the city, sometimes near gas stations or stand alone garage buildings, are based on GT5's GT Auto but better and with a new feature added. Livery Editor.

Tuning Shop
The tuning shops that are also located in some parts of the city. Where players can purchase various of upgrades and parts for their (PREMIUM) cars.

Racers and Drivers Tests (Licence Test)
In the main part in the city, the licence test building is the only place to head too in downtown. Where players can do a racing test called GT Racer's Tests, is a classic test based on GT but with leaderboards. This is the best way for he or she to beat their friends and everyone in the same region or around the world, to top fast times to be the leader on the leaderboards and master of the GT World.

A new feature called GT Driver's Test, is where theres no leaderboards, but being tought to master road rules and signs of the road in order to earn the GT Licence. This is the best way to become the best responsabile driver of the road in the visual world, and the real world.

If you want to race, the race event station whatever to call it. Its where you can join online/offline races or time trials. There you can also create your own races again online/offline, or just have track days (Free Run).

Well. That's pretty much I have so far, hope this will change your mind about thinking GT should or shouldn't have a free roam mode. All of those ideas came directly from my mind filled with imaginations.

Edit: I almost forgot to add touge roads outside of GT city for drift lovers, along with gas stations. ;)

I totally agree with you! I see no point in Free-Roam on GT. Besides, you can free-run round the track anyway.

Free-roam on GT will only waste money. This is a racing sim. not a noobs playground.

Plus if they will never even think of it! I think this thread should not even be around.

That becomes too repetitive.

Elitist thinking and re-read this

Kaz mentioned this around the time GT5 released. Plus, I've always wanted NFSU2 free roam with sim physics. It's been almost eight years since then.

This thread is ruined, it says read OP and doesn't have the link to my feedback section idea, now we have much lower chances of getting enough support for a free-roam.

I should start a thread like the one I had in the GT5 forum...

I don't think so called "Hard core players", know the meaning of "fun" anymore.

I have to admit I actually like these ideas of yours. 👍 GT Air Lines could also be where you head too, in order to travel too numerous events. Although I don't see why there can not be several UCD's within the city too.

My main concern remains though. How would it be possible to make the actual driving part enjoyable with rules and speed limits to obey?

An idea that has literally just occurred to me, is to include some roads in the style of the German autobahns. No speed limits there. Then you could have speed-challenges on those particular roads and perhaps check-point races too. With the addition of leader-boards also, it could make free-roam work in GT. Although obviously other events would be needed in free-roam too.

Yes, I knew you'll like it. The reason why I made it obeying the speed limit, was for the hardcore gamers, but thanks for the idea of having non speed limits outside the city for the speed racers. :)

For the UCD part, there can also be some outside the city too, along with GT Auto and even Tuning Shops. I didn't want the city to be too big to give PD a hard time, lol.

Thank you for liking my ideas Mr Fusion. 👍

Are you saying I'm not a hardcore gamer? I am outraged!

Just kidding. Cheers for sharing those ideas of yours; they have changed my mind some what. I wouldn't mind either way, providing that PD implement it right. :)

Which really is why I asked if you read this thread.

I already provided you with my answer a few posts back.
I was only pointing out that the people who've posted in this thread have made it clear that they want it their way and not ONLY speed limit cruising.

Free Roam would be a nice addition, although i think that would take alot of time to implement. Wouldnt mind having free roam replace the GT Mode menu system.

It was being "considered" for GT5 so it's possible that they've had a head start on it for the next GT.

i found a perfect way as to how free roam would work in gt6:
Special "rally" events where you are in an open city and you must make it to a certain location within a certain time without using "express" roads. This could also work in other areas such as Finland back roads, Dakar style deserts, and norway snow areas(im getting all my location info from dirt 3:))

This is something people quite often don't seem to get about PD. They appear to have a list of features they want, and they plug away at them as prototypes until they're "good enough", at which point they'll convert them to work in whichever game is being made at that time. What that means is that certain features can be in development for multiple iterations of the games before actually making it out into the light of day, e.g. weather.

Having this long-term development scheme is good, because you effectively have unlimited computing power and enough time to just throw things together and see if they work. What doesn't, gets axed or sidelined; what does, gets refined to the point it can be included.
It's bad because you're not necessarily planning for certain features, and your development timeline is far less rigid. Unexpected difficulties can delay a game if a certain feature is already implemented into its core, or there can be obvious disparity between a collection of features and a complete game set around those features.

It's riskier, probably more expensive, but in the long run you get a lot of nice goodies out of it, especially with iteration.

What is the pint of this thread? Really? It's just a wish list and some of you are getting really carried away. A lot. It's not going to happen so give your imaginations a rest or at least change the title to reflect how massively the original question has veered off line.

Apology accepted! :p

Ah humour! Cheap and sarcastic perhaps but just about, so I'll give it some acknowledgement.

Yes you're probably right but I'm certain there are some souls here that I just can't help saving from themselves. It's the christian cynic in me..

You know what isn't fun? Simulating real world driving with real world speed limits and real world traffic laws. If I want to do that, I'll step out of my front door. In a game I want to let loose, drive cars to the limits that I could only dream of owning. I don't want to take a Ferrari 599 and drive along a country road at 60mph, neither clearly do the majority of people that buy car games.

Okay, okay I take the idea back. Sheesh... >_> Cuz that's what Kaz wanted to do, so that's why I made that. :p

Haha, cheers bud. It was fun sharing them. :)

For your imformation Mr. I have no imagination. You never know, PD might make a free roam mode for GT6. Maybe or maybe not, I'll like to try and make the free roam idea as realistic as possible.

One problem I can see with an open world is the rules of the road. Which country's rules should we use? Presumably, PD, being Japanese, is probably going to use Japan's, so it could be awkward for something like me from Canada, to drive on the other side of the road.
Have you driven in another country on opposite sides? You get used to it very quickly (with constant self reminders). If it's easy in real life then surely a game will be fine. It's not like your using a car with the gear stick on the wrong side either, your in your own "car" still.
In addition to that, having the feature could be a good tool for the very reason to help people have a go at driving on the opposite side before they go on a holiday. Free lessons in GT6.

It would be nice if they did but I would make it a DLC or mini, with a couple of cars. I just want GT6 then I'll get the mini game or DLC with Free Roam, I don't want it to be part of the game, focus on the game first, DLC 2nd!!

Sounds really great, like GTA but car based with no killing/guns/drugs where you can go on cruises with other users and maybe swap meets where players can trade their old car parts. There can be tuning shops, car washes, repair shows and paint shops and ofcourse, racetracks. Drag racing between lights will be epic too but there will always be those annoying losers who crash into you. And cops which can pull you over and you can get speeding tickets from speed cameras and going through red lights which get deducted from your credits or your car can get confiscsted. A drag strip will be cool where you can go the quater mile for stakes/fun, pink slips will be a good addition. This should not be GT6 but a whole new game, doesnt need to be made by PD, just an awesome idea.
