pCARS most certainly isn't free roam. It's got a couple of point to point tracks using open roads but its all about racing, not free roam. There are no large areas of open roads.

Good to hear. Funny how things get exaggerated.

That's a shame.

I'd like to express my thoughts about that directly now but that wouldn't be AUP friendly so I'll put it that way; respect other people's opinions as you quite certainly don't regarding such a statement, because if you do not, this as a discussion thread in a forum isn't the right place to be for you.

Indeed. I'm not sure how anyone can consider point to point racing on closed roads free roam.

I was about to ask this, again I have not bothered pCars much so far as all I've seen were race cars on race tracks doing... races. And this pretty much looks the same, no freedom to choose a way or something, just a timed point to point run.

There are two tracks that make it seem like free roam, California Highway and Azure Coast. You can do free runs, time trials, and I suppose normal races against AI, but I haven't tried. I haven't played it much because the physics feel too twitchy and like you said, it's mostly made up of race cars. Personally, I'm disappointed with the car list so far (knowing that it's more of a racing game than GT/FM), but the final game will hopefully bring more road cars. No tire types yet. For the final game, I suppose.

Thanks for the correction. I thought i had seen a video with various different street options to drive on. Either way, good to know as i am against free roaming games. We have burnout for that.

You for real?

Logitech wheel support, real life cars with realistic physics?

You for real?
I'm not sure why he said it like that, but he was partially talking about going off-topic. It's not that big of a deal if it's not made into one, i.e. flame wars or completely going off-topic for a while.

Not how I read it.
In fact he never mentioned off topic.

He's borderline AUP himself.

Not sure if the Logitech wheel works on Burnout or not. The physics are no where near being real life. But with all due respect, i have a car i drive around city streets. It isn't something i care to do in a game. Especially a Gran Turismo title. I'm sure there's a market for it. But feel Gran Turismo isn't it.

That's my point. With GT5, there are a ton of rooms online for cruising and mindless driving in free run. Can you take out +600 different types of cars out on the road in real life, safely drifting, drag racing and without wasting gas?

I felt offended by the way you talk about free roam in other games. How is that borderline AUP? I don't think you got what I meant.
And yeah it was pretty late so I could've put it in other words but... whatever.

And, comparing Burnout as an arcade racer from 2008 with the realistic free roam around a big environment like it's demanded in this thread is ridiculous.

Oh I didn't know PCARS was free roam also. That's a shame.

I felt offended by the way you talk about free roam in other games.

Easily offended?

Edited to add.

I never set out to offend anybody. If someone finds my opinion offensive, well so be it.

I'm not changing my opinion so as not to offend others. I would feel offended then, wouldn't I.

Silly discussion.

Or, go and buy the new Need for Speed Most Wanted for PS3 or PC, it's also built around a free roam world, and the physics are decent at low speed (not exactly realistic - but they are alright). Of course the races are arcade-styled, but they are fun. And as far as I've read about Horizon multiplayer and watched footage of it on YouTube they are pretty much on the same level online...

Main reason I prefer Most Wanted is that it's located in a big city environment, which I prefer much over - sometimes quite lame - country roads. And, that you can seemlessy switch between quite realistic slow cruising and high speed arcade racing. Because unlike Horizon this game was never expected to be real, so nobody really bothers that.
Car selection depends on your taste, personally I prefer Horizon's widely spread vehicle classes (and overall bigger car count). The graphics and sounds in both titles are impressive. One thing, to me when driving the same car long enough, the engine sounds becomes pretty boring, so background music matters to me. Only Most Wanted offers to play your own custom music playlist.

That kind of "free-roam"* isn't really conducive to GT's gameplay anyway, so those games would still be a something different to enjoy even if GT did add some openness.

*I had some kid correct me when I described Burnout Paradise as an "open world" game, he said "free-roam", like it's a genre or something!

No. As already said, if I wanted a free roam I would play TDU, GTA, Forza Horizon...even though I really hate this one.

Polyphony MUST concentrare on car sounds (will they ever include/increase the exhaust??), car customization (body, wheels, liveries), visual immersion inside the cockpit (car vibrations, wheel vibrations), better/faster/easier matchmaking, converting all the damn standard cars to premium (and don't charge us for that!), getting licenses to include the hottest cars and brands, REALISTIC COLLISIONS (GT desperately need this) etc...

 Children. They're so irritating.

...wow.

:D GT supports my wheel the best. Let's hope GTA supports the Logitech steering wheels (seriously). :dunce:

Yes, and as we keep saying, none of that would be prevented by adding open configurations to existing circuits, or adding a random mode to the course creator for continuous driving, on the fly, or even just a small SS City section to play in. It's just content, I really doubt PD want to make NFS Paradise 2 or TDU or whatever, so it just isn't going to happen the way you seem to fear.

They should concentrate on making a complete package, and if that includes open elements, then I can't see a problem with it.

EDIT: I'd go crazy for proper wheel support in GTA V, too.

Yup, GTA IV was my second most played game this gen. The physics are supposed to be even more natural/realistic this time around. At least that's what I got from,
Improved vehicle handling and physics - "The cars hold to the ground better... It feels more like a racing game," Houser says.

Yes, that WOULD be nice, like CTznOfTime said there are more important issues to be addressed.

Also, Kaz said he wanted a speed limit involved. My question was, if there was going to be a speed limit, what would happen if one were to break that speed limit? Police? Chase?....holy crap turn the grits off, they done!

And it would be good if people coule be on teams like
1. Dark Outlaws (they would take out any car they see)
2. Police (people could join the police force)
3. Wasps (drivers with quick little cars that would annoy other drivers with there agility)
4. Fbi (Investigating criminal gangs and would total cars)

This sort of stuff doesn't belong anywhere near Gran Turismo.

I think if you have the PC version of IV you can make it work with Logitech wheels properly.

It was pretty sketchy last I tried it ("digital" control! Why it wasn't automagically recognised as a Direct input device escapes me - probably a GFWL thing; "thou shalt use no controller but the 360 pad"), but that was before the supposed "official" fix, I think. But then, all that did was map the in-game axes to the wheel directly, with no special tuning, so you were controlling something optimised for a pad with the wheel. Which wasn't that well received from what I read either (I couldn't be bothered with the hassle by that point.)

I'm not sure it was something Rockstar expected, and the PC version was really only a port anyway; I hope they'll take both things more seriously this time as a result, like by having Rockstar North handle the PC version as well (but, surprise of surprises, a PC version hasn't been announced yet).

Anyway...
I like the imaginative bent of some posters, but I don't think PD should put too much effort into creating rigid frameworks for us to "play games" in, they should give us the tools to customise all of that for ourselves, if possible.

I'm hoping they used their experience with MCLA to include wheel support in GTA5, hopefully with a GT-like setup where you can switch between wheel and controller seamlessly.

As much as I would enjoy this, i think it would take WAY too long to model everything. Also, it would bring it more towards a GTA type atmosphere, which I think is completely wrong for GT

So how do you think PD should add more openness into the game? I'm not liking this perpetual assuming that it has to be like GTA, or similar.

I don't understand that last statement at all. Forza has Horizon and the last thing that game reminds me of is GTA. What makes you think this would happen with GT?

Whats a annoying obsticle is needing to have a required licence for the race. Thats a pain in the butt. Also i dont think theyll have X1's if it becomes open world. Plus tire ware + fuel consumption, fill up at a gas station, change tires n get a oil change.

What you want to turn gt into nfs? With open world stuff?

Why is it when someone mentions open world people automatically think nfs?

There are other open world games that are actually pretty good.
