👍I dont see the point in freeroaming, maybe it's good for kids or those without the possibility of driving a real car. If I want freeroaming, I just take my car and go do a drive. I dont need that in a game really beside it would encourage people to drive even faster in real life cause if they can do it in a game they should be able to recreate it in real life.
Freeroaming couldnt give you a drive from la to NY, do you even realize the amount of data you would need to make something like that possible on an open road environnement ? Maybe you could have a part of a big city at best, like GTA4.
Special stage , SS5,SS7,SS11,SSX all connected together, would be like tokyo extreme racer litterally, i would love that..
SS5 would connect to SS11 then you could take SS11 to SS7 then SS7 would connect to SSX
Since you already see route 7 signs in SS5 tunnel on the exit. also could open the streets because they are already modeled. just a thought, and woot 1800!
In order to have "Online World Freeroam" you have to solve one small technical issue:
You have to make a engine that allows for real time asynchronous streaming of the complete "universe"
All Gran Turismo games - and other similar games in the simulation genre does not use that technique, instead they are loading complete tracks and cars into RAM and just stream the textures and data that player have in their FOV.
Going Free Roam would call for totally different approach to everything.
I do not say it is impossible or anything, but take into concern how open-world streaming always asks for great compromises in performance on closed-hardware (such as consoles) or even greater compromises on technical-fidelity of the assets involved from those that can achieved without "open world".
Just saying.
And then there's the issue of servers and network connections for mass numbers of users, which I don't even think the ps3 can capacitate for (limited to 16 players?)
But if it is done well it could become a very popular place for players to socialise, drive, take photos and whatnot![]()

JBantonOK so basically if you haven't heard the concept yet, Gran Turismo World is an open city/ land where drivers can take their cars to cruise, meet and whatnot. This feature would be an online diversion to A-spec and B-spec.
Now I know this feature will not be incuded in GT5 because it will simply be too time consuming but what do you people here at GTPlanet think of an online freeroam in Gran Turismo?
Please can we avoid flaming within this topic, I just want to see what others think of a freeroam in Gran Turismo, there are no wrong answers.
I think Polyphony Digital should hire in some more landscaping artists and let it be a fantasy island with some beautiful places to photograph car... Oh, well, that would make it awesome to drive around in too. Let physics, graphics engine and cars come from Gran Turismo 5(LOT(!!!) of work saved), but let it be an huge expansion to Gran Turismo 5 and/ or 6.
As I might begin studying game design next semester, I've been playing with the thought of such a game, and as a huge fan of the GT series, having the physics and cars from Polyphony Digital would be a dream come true. Not sharing too much of the idea.I did like Test Drive Unlimited, but wow, it had some huge holes to fill.

What about offline freeroam? Just in case if others don't have internet. If it's only freeroam online, others will have to stay in arcade mode if they have no internet connection.
Just like how in GT4 said, "You can't play GT Mode because you don't have a memory card."
I still wanted a GT Mode, but within that there would be an online freeroam, we still need to keep Gran Turismo, as it is; a Gran Turismo game
I think I need to update the OP![]()

I just want them to make their usual Gran Turismo game first and then concentrate on working s freeroam in when the "normal" areas of the game are finished.
Because the world would be online we could have special areas like an OCD, special shops, auction house etc...
It's really annoying how a couple people ignored that.OK so basically if you haven't heard the concept yet, Gran Turismo World is an open city/ land where drivers can take their cars to cruise, meet and whatnot. This feature would feature in GT Mode and be an online diversion to A-spec and B-spec. As in the freeroam would be an oline mode which you can use if you're not in the A-spec or B-spec events.

Do you WANT me to wet my pants?Years ago a friend and I came up with the idea of a GT freeroam that used Google Maps to generate the roads. Of course you would need a high speed connection to stream in all that data.
Who wouldn't want to cannonball run from LA to NY, or even replicate your drive to work in a car you can't actually afford?
