I agree with your point, game developers shouldn't stick with ths same structure, but the thing is free roam is useful for street racing and we do track racing. We could drive between tracks, that would be nice and what we do with those race cars that aren't road legal? Driving though highways with racing softs. Odd.

Except some games, generally all EA games are a bit crappy

I didnt say free roam should be like that but to have even a minor free roam like being able to drive your car out of the exit to leave then hit a loading screen.

Now its not full free roam but its a change who knows maybe they can come up with an original free roam idea.

To me there is no problem with having both simulator and free roam. But don't crush the simulator scene. If they can balance things out I would enjoy a free roam game with strait premiums.

To go in def. I would like real world time(wherever you live) to set in when you go in the city. Say its raining where you live, your PS3/4 whatever platform it comes on will make it rain in the game. Only offline mode though. Because its not raining everywhere in the world. I was also thinking there should be fictional and non fiction highways and citys and tracks we could go online up to 50 people could join because the highways/ citys are huge. That would be fun

If you add free roam what then stops them adding point to point racing?

I'm not a fan of point to point and personally have no interest in the free roam idea.

I get people who do but I'm not one of them and hope they don't go that route....

That's my fear. They somehow forget it's a sim a start to add point to point races.

@Ranman20 I support the balance between sim and free roam

Point-to-point races actually exist through rally and hillclimb.

The GT series focuses on track racing and not street racing like what a free-roam mode would provide. We shouldn't mix up the two, I mean just imagine grand theft nurburgring :scared:

Besides, Forza Horizon supplies us with a free-roam.

Yeah, that's fine but the original point I was making was if you have free roam in a city environment then people will say why not add point to point in that environment then it becomes a completely different game.

I would love GT to add a proper WRC event but hate it if it added a TDU style event.

If that makes sense....

Totally agree with you

How about this:

In Free-Roam mode, you can drive to real racetracks and challenge your friends or do a time trial or something.

Why does "free roam" = "TDU 2" and "point-to-point" = "Burnout Paradise" ?

Have there been no other games in the history of mankind? Has anybody even looked at the richness of automotive culture as a whole, i.e. not just racing, and seen that there is more to this than what the last three years of mainstream games have offered?

Is it not possible that GT might tap into some of that instead, and produce something in keeping with the game's overall flavour whilst offering more "physical" freedom?

Ever since I have started visualizing the possibilities of the vastness of the open-world genre and Gran Turismo, I have theorized that the conceptual basis of the would be based on automotive culture as a whole. Researching about this would be difficult; so I went to the only automotive blog that published daily articles on the topic; Speedhunters. The blog mentioned is, dare I say, THE publication of the melting pot of automotive culture and it gave me an idea of how such a game would be visualized and designed.

TL;DR: I like your view on open-world driving/racing games, which some should solely be based on automotive culture as one. Speedhunters gave me inspiration for open-world racing games.

I wanna be able to drive to my own garage or a friend's garage in free roam mode if we get it.

I have an idea:

Free Roam as an online only mode, that allows your room to hold more than the usual. It can be similar to free run, where the players cruise in a city similar to the Special Stages and clubman routes combined into one. The host can choose to start a race on predetermined/ user-created (course creator, maybe?) courses that are in the city. PD could go even further and add traffic in, but not during the races to encourage racing only on a track.

So there you go, a free roam that doesn't distract the offline mode, and can still be fun.

walking through your own garage to pick up a car and drive out would be cool :).
Then you could drive to a gas station, tuning shop or anything :)
or an car wash like in GTA4 :D

Walking out of your car would be a very useless thing in a circuit racing game.

And walking through a garage with 200+ cars in it, trying to find a specific one is a hassle and very time consuming. I believe the garage feature we already have is fine.

Easy there, it was just an idea. No need to be a fun-sucker.

Or what if GT Life mode was an actual small fictional city (like the one sometimes shown in GT5's main menu), plus Kaz did say you can walk out your car anytime you want. :sly:

We can keep the car selection feature like in GT5, so why not have a feature called "select car to be displayed". This is similar to what you see in Autovista, PGR3 and TDU2 when in your garage. Spaces up to 5 - 10 cars can be displayed if you select any of those said cars from the car selection screen.

This allows you to walk around those cars you've displayed, and pretty much you can do the same thing like you can in Autovista and TDU2 (like opening car doors, hoods, roofs and so on).

Yes 100% , i want a house at the Nurburgring castle with an helicopter on the roof to fly above the track.

love that idea 👍

Hmm, remembering what happened to several other games that at first didn't allow wandering around outside the car and then eventually did in subsequent iterations, and what happened to the quality of the game (maybe not as a direct result, but generally pandering to mainstream demands), I'd be worried about adding that functionality in, if only for superstition's sake.

On the one hand, I liked how Interstate '76 justified the inability to get out of the car in the main story and made it a major theme, as evidenced in the soundtrack.
But GT doesn't really have that luxury, given the broad range of things it includes, like photomode and the course creator tracks that are basically public roads (except for the ones that aren't).

I don't think it'd be a gimmick to be able to mosey up to a cool scenery spot, that (obviously) required driving a technically demanding road to get to, and being able to hop out and wander around, snap photos or whatever (as long as that wasn't the only way to get there and do that.)
I think I've walked most of the Nürburgring in the photomode, just having a nose around, seeing what's where! Maybe I'm just weird. :dopey:

Recently i'm playing NFS Most Wanted much more than GT5.
And what i really like is easy drive mode where you can freely drive around the city without boundaries. I can drive hours and won't get tired. Physics are not as good as in GT5, but still good enough to feel the car and get some adrenaline while driving.
I thought, that would be wonderful if GT could have the same gameplay.

Just imagine you have a big city where some parts are copy of street tracks of London, Rome and others. You can freely drive on any street of this megalopolis, or choose competition within strict layout on these streets. Just like in NFS MW.
If you will drive to outer parts of city, you will find routes to off-city tracks such as Nordsheife, Suzuka and others.
So, in simple words: All tracks would be connected together!

Wow, that would be game for many many days and probably won't be boring for many years..
And imagine how many tasks and competitions can be made using such large city!
